Actually, this is the second time I have called on JD Tree Service. The first time was two years ago when they come and remove over 24 trees from our front yard. This time they came and removed some large trees from the back of our house. We are amazed that when they leave you can not tell they were ever here. The crew is friendly and very professional. I would highly recommend them for and tree service you may need.

They offered me a fair price, communicated their schedule effectively, showed up this morning on time and ready to go to work, met all the safety criteria, and did not rest until everything was cleaned up. After they left, the only way youd know theyd been there was because there is now light on the ground where there used to be shade. In all my years around heavy construction I have never seen better teamwork.

A good friend recommended J & D Tree Pros to me, and I am very glad he did. I had two large sweetgums in front of my house and two overgrown cryptomeria behind. They came, surveyed the situation, made recommendations, and then provided a very professional proposal. When the crew arrived, they set up the crane, went to work, and removed the four trees with no damage to my home or yard. After cleaning up, leaving the yard looking better than before they got there, they were gone in under two hours. A few days later, they showed up and ground down the stumps. Outstanding service! I would highly recommend this company!

It is unfortunate that J&D Tree Pros has changed its business model. We have used them in the past with great success. Their work is of the highest quality and the crew well trained and competent. However, since March we have asked them to look at a diseased tree and provide an estimate for its removal. We have asked again and this time have also included other seeking quotes from other arborists. Unfortunately J&D is too busy to take a look until the middle of July. There was no follow up in March and no interest now in residential work. If you manage to catch them and have them commit, you will be satisfied.

Pros is a bit of a stretch. Everyone from J&D I spoke with seemed very nice and willing to promise me the world. Unfortunately, FIVE MONTHS after smashing my fence and countless follow-ups, they have STILL not gotten around to finishing their half-hearted “fix”. Luckily the unstained/untreated lumber is molding over so is not as noticeable as it was when they first hacked it together, but as President Daniel McMains said a month ago, “he is right this is absolutely ridiculous”… At least I got a little free landscaping by my driveway.

J&D did a great job taking out two trees with their crane. The trees were in a tricky spot just behind the house on a crowded street, but they made it look easy. They were so efficient and had the whole job done and the street clean within an hour of the crane setting up. Happy to support a local Apex business and will use them again if needed!

J & D Tree Pros is blocking the Shady Lawn Rd from N Lakeshore Dr to Kenmore Drive without signage. I turned onto the street. They (group of 6 men) demanded that I give them my address to get through. I live on the street, and I am not going to give my address to a bunch of men that I don’t know. Therefore, I refused and was visibly upset. Question - don’t you need a permit, proper signage, and notice to those who live on the street that you are blocking the road to their house? What if someone had an emergency? Seems more than unprofessional, but also a safety issue. Additionally, the huge crane on a street( that barely fits two cars) would do a lot of damage to neighborhood roads. Does Chapel Hill not have a weight limit for Vehicles on certain roads? I hate writing a poor review in the current climate, but something doesn’t seem right.

The scope of work for J&D was to remove several large trees near the house that could do significant damage during a storm. Dan developed the estimate based on our discussion of what I was trying to do in the front yard, especially removing several large poplars. J&D came out about a week later, got started early in the morning, and had the crane, chippers, and log trucks ready as the men got the equipment in place. Eight men were used on the job. The job could not have been done without their crane. The men cleaned up the work after about 4 hours of cutting. I couldnt ask for a better job done on these trees - great equipment, experience, quality of work, and very cordial workers. Ive used J&D in the past and Id definitely use them again. The estimate was very clear about the work to be done and the price was very reasonable.

I highly recommend J&D Tree Pros for any tree work needed. March we noticed a very large sweetgum tree leaning towards our house. We have had trees removed multiple times but never something this big.we had 3 companies come out to quote and all 3 were within $100. Todd Gailas withJ&D came out and explained not only how they could remove it without using our driveway but also at my request evaluated several other trees I was concerned with and showed me how he could tell they were healthy. The estimate was prompt and we were put on the schedule. all 3 companies were busy so scheduling looked about 2-3 weeks out. Todd independently came back a day or so later to relook at the tree and with storms in the forecast bumped us up and came back the following day to remove it. His crew was amazing! Prompt, professional and very efficient. The process was amazing, they worked seamlessly together and neighbors even came out to watch. They left the area cleaner than when they arrived! We could not have been more pleased and definitely slept better once the tree was removed. Thank you so much to the whole team at J&D tree pros for taking care of this and doing an amazing job.

The J & D Tree Pros crew did a fantastic job removing a huge tree in a very tight spot and over two houses. The oak was almost five feet across at the base and the pieces had to be lifted over our three story home and power lines before landing them in the street. Long story short, a class act company that WOWED a NON-CUSTOMER! How you ask, Ill give a few details.J&D Tree Pros were removing a tree for my neighbor. While in the process their trucks damaged my recently installed sod. Needless to say I was upset and said something to the workers. While one of the workers started down the road of a possible altercation, another, stepped in and completely defused the situation. He assured me the company would take care of it, gave me a name and contact number, and apologized for the incident. I immediately called and spoke with the VP who was already aware of the situation. He and the owner came to my house within 1/2 hour, apologized and even had YONDERS Landscaping along to access the damages. They ALL assured me my damage would be corrected. Not only did the damage get taken care of within a few days, a beautiful arrangement of flowers were sent to my wife for any inconvenience. KUDOS to YONDERS LANDSCAPE for the repair. Daniel McMains came out and have a great quote on some trees. You can tell he loves trees and knows his business. We had 2 gum trees with declining health that were over our house. Dan made it a priority to get these taken care of before an approaching hurricane so we could be rest easy. It was the best pricing in town. They had permits pulled and the cranes were set up in no time. Job was completed in just a couple hours. Awesome job! I usually don’t give this type of recommendation but the service was 10/10. If you have trees that require a crane, I would call these guys in a heart beat. I know I will be using them again.

They arrived and set up the monster crane, took out the massive pines from BEHIND MY HOUSE where there was no real access to vehicles, and lifted the trees over 2 stories in the span of a few hours. I was working from home and on conference calls and didnt really even hear them.All was chipped, cut, removed and left in very good condition. Good price too. I went in w/ a neighbor and had 4 pines removed from our property border. Billing was very straightforward.

Im on 3.25 acres and asked Dan to access the trees on the lot and wanted some recommendations on management and pruning. Dan walked the lot, was very interested and even helped to identify a few that I didnt know including a Persimmon he believed to be well over a hundred years old. Excellent service! Travis impressed us with his knowledge about the proper way to prune Crepe Myrtle trees to enhance their beauty. It is extremely refreshing to have an experience with a company that does what they say theyre going to, when theyre going to do it, is incredibly responsive and goes above and beyond for the customer. We had some major storm damage and downed trees and they went from quoting the job to having it done in less than a week (would have been sooner if my Insurance company was quicker). The crane service was incredibly convenient and non-intrusive. After they were done, you wouldnt have even known they were there. Even my neighbors commented on how efficient their crew was. A tree fell during the storm on 10/31/19 in Apex, NC. The crew came with all the proper equipment and personal protective gear for the workers. They removed the tree, cleaned up and even cleaned the neighbors driveway of any leaves or small branches. When they left it looked as if nothing happened. Great job. I take referrals seriously as an engineer and will refer them without hesitation. Great professional work.

These guys are awesome. Got a quote to cut down some trees. Upon the day of arrival they found another rotten tree I wasn’t aware of. They through that tree removal in for free. Everything was disposed of and was very prompt service.

I LOVE this company!Unfortunately, we had a 31,000 lb red oak tree fall on our house on 4/19. J & D came to my rescue in a BIG way! They came out and removed my HUGE fallen tree and also another big tree that had been damaged from the fall- this one weighing in at 11,000 lbs. Both trees were VERY close to my house, which made me nervous. J&D used such great skill and care to successfully and safely remove both trees- it was incredible to watch! I dont think there is a job too big for them to handle!After the trees were gone, I was left with 2 big stumps in my yard. Reluctantly, I was able to get my insurance to pay for the 31,000 lb trees stump that had completely fallen over, however, they would not pay for the other stump. How frustrating!I called J&D and asked what the price would be for the other stump... dreading the extra expenses we would have to accrue. Daniel, the owner, got on the phone with me and so generously said he would remove the extra stump free of charge! I WAS BLOWN AWAY! He was touched by my familys story and fact that my husband, who is in the Army, was deploying in just 2 shorts month. You just dont find companies like this one anymore: companies that truly care and are not just all about the $$$.Will, the gentleman that grinded my 2 huge stumps, was a PRO! He was so efficient and did way more than I asked of him! He was kind, knowledgeable and left my yard looking SO MUCH BETTER than when he came! Ive been using J&D Tree Pros for 40 years. Dan, Todd, and all the tree crew plus office staff members are top notch. Recently we had to have 33 trees removed, and the tree crew was prompt, professional, and expert. They also did excellent cleanup after the job. The 90 ton crane is the craziest thing Ive ever seen, especially when its blocking traffic just to hook to a 45 foot tall 14 DBH pine tree in wide open ground. Very very rarely is something such a NINTY TON crane needed for a tree removal here in the southeast, unless the arborist does not possess the skills to cut & direct branches etc to a safe landing. Save your $$$ & look elsewhere.

This may sound like a fan letter but it is a true review based on our interaction with J&D Tree Pros. I will summarize our assessment for those who want the bottom line without reading the specific comments that follow. We give them Five(5) stars. They were cpurteous careful and competent. The company is aptly named as they professional in every way.We undertook our project to remove trees that were potential threats during severe weather. We knew that due to the topography of our lot and the location of the improvements, the removal of the trees would be extremely difficult.Our first interaction was with Mike, who surveyed the situation with us. He clearly knows trees (forestry background) and helped us make judicious decisions easily. Quite frankly he could have tried to sell us on taking out more than the 14 trees that we ultimately took down. By the end of our conversation, we were confident in the decisions we made.Because some of the removal required near surgical precision, the company used one of its cranes. Rick, the crane captain and Carlos, the climber (my terms) were an amazing team and but for the seriousness of the work, it is wonderful entertainment. In my opinion, more exciting and inspiring that many performances at DPAC!The supporting crew were equally skilled and well disciplined in efficiently dealing with the trees once cut. They cleared the site (street included) continuously and meticulously.The companys equipment appeared to be state of the art and it was certainly effective.Finally- Dan, the owner of the company personally inspected the site before work commenced. I do not imagine he can always do that but he was here. I noted that before leaving, he instructed his foreman to hold their safety conference and told him that he would order lunch delivered for the crew. Lunch was delivered on site. It was incredible to see how they were able to strategically cut sections of a tree, lift it straight up with their crane, and carefully move it away from the problem area to their trucks for cutting and disposal. Our HOA (Ridges of Northwoods HOA) needed two large trees removed recently, as they threatened one of our structures. The tree was removed one day and then the stump was grounded a few days later. However, when the tree was removed, the person doing the work did not climb the tree and cut it in sections. He instead cut it off at the bottom and it fell against our red bark maple. This tree is located on the corner of our screened porch. We lost several limbs of this tree. My husband inquired as to why he cut the tree this way and the person’s response was that he did not want to climb a dead tree. Well, he climbed the other half of the tree and took that part down properly. We were fortunate the first part of the tree did not fall directly on our screened porch. I am sad our maple had to take the brunt of the tree removal.

J&D took down two trees at my house manually (non-crane), and the crew did a fantastic job. They worked very hard, and we are pleased with the results!

Scheduled to show up for a job last Wednesday ( 5/9/18), the job was estimated to take one hour. When the crew arrived they determined that the job was more extensive than originally thought. I was promised a call in the next 2 days. Nobody called. On Monday, I called the office and was told that the sales person was to call me back to discuss the job, but still no call. Unfortunately, I cant give them zero stars and still post a review.

Timely, professional, polite service. W had two tree removed and three stumps ground - Will was the gentleman who came out to perform the service and was top-notch.

I’m a repeat customer but this time damage occurred with my shrubbery and lawn ornaments and the company did not follow through on fixing and paying for the damage. My phone calls were ignored after the property damage was viewed. Very disappointed and can now not recommend this company to several interested friends and neighbors.

This company did me a good job years ago but this time they didnt show up and didnt give any explanations. Receptionist promised to be back with me a few times but didnt.

They have done the majority of tree work on my house, none better!!!

I can’t speak on the quality of service but not showing up for the estimate appointment that was confirmed 24 hours prior says a lot about professionalism. And to think I skipped my playoff softball game because this was the only day they had available.

Similar with another post 2 years ago. Had an appointment set up with them but they didnt even bother to leave their office until an hour later. Did not show up on time for even a quote. They do not respect your time, why give them your business?

I was given an appointment for tree removal, they did not show nor did they contact us to let us know they were not coming. Very unprofessional behavior, if you are going to be late, or unable to make it, it is common courtesy to contact your client to make them aware of the situation as soon as you realize you are not going to make the appointment.
