Please keep scrolling. Im sure you are looking for an apartment complex that is convenient, relatively nice and quiet. Well honey this aint it. I dont even know where to start with this review because its that bad. Many have mentioned the poor management which I highly concur with. They are minimally responsive and an easy way to test this is by attempting to call them. When my husband and I moved into this complex, we had numerous maintenance issues. The renovations were a result of poor craftmanship just to name a few ; wires in our bathroom were exposed, sawdust was visible everywhere, our tub looked like it had been through hell and back, the vent in the bathroom collapsed onto the toilet, and finally cracks were visible in the doorway and floors. To put icing on the cake, one of the maintenance guys left a key in our door and Spice tree refused to compensate us for risking the security of our home. This place is not worth $1.3K a month. Seriously just save yourself a paycheck and a headache and keep scrolling to find something else. Think about it when is the last time youve reviewed an apartment complex on google? Exactly, so as you read these reviews keep in mind our experiences were horrible enough to compel us to write a review.

I would NEVER rent from them again. Along with how many things broke in our apartment the office staff is completely unprofessional and will flat out not answer the phone, return emails or in general take are if residents.I DIDNT GET MY DEPOSIT BACK this is also after a pandemic. No one responds to my emails or calls and there were days i saw office staff siting in there just letting phone ring while they did NOTHINGYou guys are trash.

Management is nonexistent, I’ve even emailed the email they respond to poor reviews with.. unsurprisingly no response. Staff never answers the phone or returns voicemails, they must be so busy planning the next pool party instead. If you’re looking for a quiet, quality place to live then keep looking because this place is equivalent to living in a college dorm.

So far so good. Move in was smooth, community seems nice and leasing office is very helpful (though it has been much harder to get in touch with them over the phone than in-person, but I dont mind the walk). Apart was clean and ready to go when I arrived. Everything in the apartment was clean. My only initial concern was that it smelled like new paint in my apt until I let it air out. Might suggest cracking the window in anticipation for new residents when they move in.

I lived here for 8 years. This is by far, THE WORST, management company in all of Ann Arbor. Holes in ceilings never fixed, roach problems in every building, car break ins weekly, management never answers their phones or emails. The doors are locked to the office so you have to call but no one answers so you’re back to square one. Long term employees quit this year who I really liked but could tell that they were fed up with everything too. If you just moved into Spice Tree and didn’t bother with these reviews, don’t worry, you will be here in about a few months posting your own.

Terrible experience with Spice Tree apartments. They kept my deposit check for 3 months. We left the apartment in excellent conditions and they didnt send the check. I had to call several times. Every time they said they will call me back and never did. The manager never wanted to answer the phone. I also sent emails to the managers and they did not respond.I had to contact the business that is in charge of sending the checks, (they are in New Jersey) to get it back. Also the building we lived had a leak and everytime it rained the whole hallway was completely wet. We told them that and the only thing they did to fix it was to put a fan in the hallway to help dry.Worst place to live ever.

BE CAREFUL RENTING WITH THIS COMPANY!!! Especially building 13! This building often floods or looses power when the rest of the property has full power. They made promises that certain things would be fixed before we moved in (for example the bathtub chipping to the point where you cant bathe in it) and none of these things were fixed when we moved in.They brought the wrong work order to my apartment and painted the inside of my closet (which didnt need to be painted) with all of my clothes and shoes still in it and ruined several things - worst part - they refused to pay for the total damage. They also let my animals (which are not outdoor animals) outside while completing this project because they left the door wide open. When you try to contact the office; they either ignore emails and voicemails or never answer the phone. They even ignored an emergency maintenance call when the hallway was flooded in our building a few weeks ago. Nothing was done - the carpet finally soaked up the water and it now has a lovely moldy aroma. My AC is currently out and it is the middle of the summer. I was told this would be taken care of when they get to it and to just sleep with the windows open (I am a female that lives alone on the ground floor, not sleeping with my windows open).I am sure like everyone else, they are experiencing staffing issues, however, it is getting a little frustrating and I want people to be aware before they make the decision to live here.

Spice tree is kind of a mixed bag. Mostly bad, but there are redeeming qualities. The Bad: When I moved in, they said that they were going to fix everything in the apartment and clean it up, they did not do either. When we moved in, The shower didnt work properly, the hose below the sink broke, The dishwasher leaked everywhere, and power to the apartment would go out (this is just a few problems with the place, but it was not livable for a week). The main office is frustrating to work with, they generally dont respond in a timely manner and dont have the best demeanor. The building has terrible plumbing and wiring because its old, I guess. Terrible sound barriers. You can hear other rooms easily. Had some packages stolen. The Good: They just renovated the place and it looks modern and sleek. They basically just gave it a facelift. When you put work orders in, they get it done relatively quickly and I havent personally had a lot of issues with them. Once all of the problems were fixed, there werent many problems after that. You have to be very active in putting in work orders, or nothing will get fixed, obviously. The price is pretty good. They have pools. Convenient to get anything you need like gorceries and walking distance from Crunch Fitness.Honestly with rental prices going up, its not too bad. Just keep putting in those work orders friends!

My apartment was flooded and I was unable to use it because they hired extremely incompetent carpet company and took them 7 days to restore the unit to habitable condition! Although they claimed they sent the company the second but I had solid evidence that they DID NOT! A customer care representative reached once to promise rent reduction for the 7 days, BUT IT NEVER SHOWED UP! A company that keeps cheating residents!!

I’ve lived here for a 15 month lease and the management was not the best. Jeremy in the leasing office is your guy to get anything done properly stress free. I was charged one month double for utilities and they didn’t do anything about it just forced me late fees and warning letters. We had a roach problem on the third floor for 4 months or so then they finally did something major about the infestation. We had occasional loud partying below us but managed through it. Over all beautiful pools and apartment layout was awesome.

I have lived in two units here at Spice Tree, both had some serious issues with regards to construction. One ever had a foundation issue that was raised with management multiple times, nothing happened. If youre going to spend $1000+ to live somewhere your money will be better spent elsewhere, you will get more value for your money in most other apartments in the AA/Ypsi area.

I have never experienced a worst rental company in my life. You can’t get ahold of anyone when they consistently screw up your billing. When you do finally get ahold of someone, they don’t ever know the answer to your questions. Then you ask to speak to a manager and they say “managers don’t take phone calls.” Are you kidding me? It’s a manager’s job to assist customers and the only way to get ahold of them is through email? Why? So they can hide behind a keyboard and attempt to explain their TERRIBLE customer service? Bobbi is extremely rude and it sounds like she’s that way to her employees too, because they’re literally terrified to approach her with incoming phone calls. I feel bad for these employees for having to deal with these managers. The apartments are nice, but I’d rather live somewhere with lower quality so that I could at least get my problems resolved with some respect and clear answers!

I should say before you read; this is the first bad review I’ve left for anything. I truly believe in giving grace to others ect but others should know about what happened. We went to tour apartments and it seemed perfect for us so we put a down payment down. Well months go by and I am not hearing anything, even email them. Nothing. I get a call 2 weeks before our move in date that they have an apartment for us and they’ve known for a while and I should’ve been notified... I wasn’t. I tell them we already secured another apartment... because we need a place to live. I talked to the district manager and they were no help. They scammed us $300 in the midst of a pandemic because THEY messed up. Unfortunately their customer service was not good. I do not recommend living here as if this is how they treat people BEFORE they live here I can’t imagine how they would after. Again the apartments were nice and we were very excited it’s honestly disappointing.

I have been living here for going on 3 years and I have nothing but good things to say about the property, the staff, and my overall experience. The bad reviews you see are because of maintenance mostly (the ones Ive read), but my experience with maintenance have been nothing but PERFECT. I submit a request and it gets filled the next day or the day after. There is never a lingering issue that the staff does not want to resolve. The property itself is beautiful and safe. I have not had a safety concern nor have I heard of any in the surrounding buildings. The neighbors are respectful and if there are noise issues, you just tell them politely and they stop. Everyone is courteous. Obviously there are a few bad apples no matter where you are, but I dont believe a few bad residents here and there is a reflection on the property itself. They have plenty of activities that get everyone involved, like pool parties, breakfast events, and other random activities. I highly recommend staying here. I dont wanna move! The location is absolutely perfect. Youre close enough to downtown but just far enough to be away from the chaos that is UofM.I recommend this to all of my friends and will be sad if I ever have to move.

My spouse, pup, and I have lived at Spice Tree Apartments for almost 9 months, and, overall, we recommend Spice Tree as an excellent place to live in the Ypsilanti/Ann Arbor area.Pros:-Our 2-bedroom (with additional den off the kitchen) apartment is spacious and well laid out. It includes an updated kitchen and appliances, double vanity in the bathroom, and large windows throughout.-Central air-conditioning-Lots of outdoor/green space with trees, 2 pools, accessible pet waste stations, and playground-Additional storage space for rent (helpful for storing our bikes, especially in the winter months)-Friendly office staff-Common areas are regularly maintainedCons:-Communication issues: Its generally better to communicate in-person with the leasing office than rely on phone/email.-Most of the electrical outlets in our apartment have white covers placed directly over the old ivory outlets, so devices often dont stay plugged in due to a loose fit.-The maintenance staff often uses quick/cheap fixes. We now mostly fix things ourselves (e.g., stripped screws resulting in loose door hinges).-Spice Tree does not offer recycling services, so any recycling must be brought to a recycling drop-off center (>1 mile away) by residents themselves.

IRRESPONSIBLE MANAGEMENT, NON SUPPORTIVE, TREAT YOU UNFAIRLY!! BE CAREFUL!!!Carpet will be your major complaint, because probably they hire very incompetent carpet cleaning team. The carpet in room was not clean, with stains on them, during move in. Although I did note that on the move in check list, the Landlord did nothing afterwards. No additional carpet wash or anything. This was not just me. My friend who referred me here also said the carpet is very dirty during move in. By the way, the 700 referral bonus was like a scam and we never got it. Be careful. After a month, my apartment was flooded. The management team said a company came the other night to dry and clean carpet. But that was a total lie. Nothing has been done. And then today they said the company will come. But 8:40 pm now and no one showed up.It could be the fault of the carpet company, but they should change whoever they worked with given such horrible service. The staffs here are generally friendly, but do not reply emails (except Sagor! Like him so much!).Again, I am still waiting for the restoration of the apartment back to habitable condition, but that sounds like an endless wait. When talked to them today, it sounded that they were not willing to even just deduct the rent for the uninhabitable period of time. Very disappointed.Update: They again said the company will come today and they will discuss the rent deduction with their boss later. Lets see.Update: Horrible settlement! The flood came last Friday night, and the restoration company finally came today at noon ( Friday!). Before that, the bedroom was uninhabitable and I cannot use it. Total is 7 days 6 nights, and they are just willing to get the rent reduction for 3 days!! Ridiculous and unfair!!!Update: Finally someone reached out to provide 7 days of rent reduction. So added one more star for that.Update: THEY ARE LIER! The promised 7 days of rent reduction never showed up! You cant believe how unreliable they are!

Terrible place to live. My entire complex constantly reeks of marijuana and despite the no smoking agreement management does nothing to fix it. In addition; there was a leak in the ceiling above the shower and maintenance cut a hole so it could drain and called it good. Its obvious from the poor repair jobs that there have been leaks in this area before as well as along the windows. If you’re someone who works nights don’t even think about living here. There is constant outside construction that will make sleep impossible. The front door has two locks, a chain and a deadbolt and even with both of those locked there is still give in the door where you can move it back and forth as well as see the light from the hallway. The walls and floors are paper thin so get ready to hear every step your upstairs neighbor makes and any noise from inside or outside of the apartment. It’s definitely not worth the money and I can’t wait until my lease is up. Please save yourself money and time and love anywhere but here. I’m convinced all of the positive reviews on this place are fake accounts or paid for because I honestly can’t wait until my lease is up.

I lived here from 2017-2018. Overall, my boyfriend and I had a good experience. Employees were friendly and kind, although I never reached out about any problems. They changed ownership within the time we lived there and underwent several transformations, such as new painting of the parking spaces, new signs, new walkways...We signed here because we really enjoyed the tour of the example apartment. Do note, like most other apartments, that the example apartment will be the best you will ever get. Everything is a step down in one way or another, some significant and some minor. When we were ready to move into our first apartment, we found that it did not meet our needs. I wont go farther into it as they solved the problem quickly and efficiently by providing us with another apartment. When you are moving into apartments, they will be very caring towards you but be honest and upfront about your expectations. Chances are there could be other apartments available. We went from a very old looking apartment that had painted gray over wood paneling (I think?), dirty old carpet and floors that we lifting in some spots. We ended up with a very nice apartment that was fairly close to the example apartment we toured originally. Im guessing theres quite a range of the quality of apartments due to just the two we had seen. They painted the brown doors white when we asked prior to moving in.Things I liked:- gas range stove- lighting (we faced west and had a beautiful sunset view)- two pools- the double sink- TONS of storage within the apartment- modern look color / flooring for the time period- safe area for children and dogs to play between buildings- free and available parking- attentiveness and fixing our first apartment to something that would be better for us (and looking)- everyones dogs seemed friendly and well picked up after- free heating- diverse renters, families and young couples, college students and elderlyThings I did not like:- neighbors who smoked incessantly outside our door leaving cigarettes, kind man but dang- couple below us who fought loudly- the location is surrounded by businesses but if you like to bike, its dangerous, loud and polluted due to traffic- windows are only on one side of the room- we were promised a gym, never got it- we were promised new doors in our apartment, seemed like everyone got them but usOverall, its a very good experience. But do note, to new possible renters, that they give out incentives for good ratings. I had an overall good experience, I do think thats because I put my foot down when I first moved in. Its a good transition home for anyone looking.PS. Tuptin is amazing and you can walk there from the apartments. Its that red and yellow restaurant around the block. Also shout out to Ollies in Ypsi, another good restaurant choice.

UPDATE! Its funny that property management give you a fake number to call for FURTHER ASSISTNOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE! This is the first time I write a review to any apartment, so all the reviews are very objective. My overall experience of living in this complex is terrible. If you want a place to rest after work or school, this is NOT A OPTIMAL PLACE!!! Here is why: I have just moved in not even a month I was told that the whole complex was renovated lately, but it turns out that what’s inside of the buildings are not as “renovated” as I expected because the apartment is too old to be changed. Renovation is just trying to cover all the issues. I should have listened to others reviews!First of all, the moving-in day is unprofessional. Dust is everywhere, the shelf floor was not covered, and the curtain is broken. Nothing was ready, and I had to make 4 phone calls to fix all those issues.Second, the AC here in my apartment doesn’t work well, because it starts to shake so bad as if it’s going to explode once turned on. I can feel my floor is vibrating!!! I reported to the leasing office, but they said that there was nothing they could do about it. Besides the noise of my AC, I have to tolerate the sound coming through the floor from my neighbors living downstairs. It seems that the floors between the stores are too thin to block out the sound from my neighbors, which has been nagging at me for days. I have been losing my sleep ever since I moved into this place. Honestly speaking, I have to wear earplugs every day, which only helps a little. If you have a noisy neighbor, all I can say to you is good luck and try to get out here ASAP or listen to mine and others reviews and never sign in here! Also, there is a fun fact about the lease. If you have unfortunately signed the contract with them and try to get out here, youll need to pay 3*pay rent. Not sure if they know that a lot of people will NOT satisfy the apartment, so they set up this agreement, and they can gain as much as they can from YOU!Finally, this is not a great place to live. I highly recommend you to look at other places first.

I moved in a bit over two months ago and I’m loving this community. Before I found Spice Tree, I had just arrived in Michigan to start my job at UM. I was looking for a nice one-person apartment close to the university, and Spice Tree fit the bill. The complex has a bus stop right outside (including buses going directly to UM), and it also has plenty of space to park my car outside every building.I looked at several other places before Spice Tree, and the moment I visited the place, I had a good feeling about it. The apartment is modern, clean, spacious, and peaceful. The walls have good quality insulation and I have not experienced noisy events happening around here at night, so I have not had any issues hearing noise at night. I found the rent to be lower than other comparable apartments I looked at. Maintenance is prompt at fixing any issues. I’ve lived in about 12 apartments in my life, and I would rank Spice Tree at the top.Sagor was my leasing agent and was very helpful in touring me through the room I would eventually move into. He helped me arrange a tour very quickly on short notice. He has a very positive attitude and is very helpful at answering any questions I have. I decided to rent a couple days after the tour, and moved in a week or two after. Great success!

Disappointed. Images online did not match what was shown. Walk-through appointment on 8/13/2020 and was shown two units. The studio apartment had an AC unit that was not correctly installed with space and cracks around it where you can see light from outside. The one bedroom had a live and well active roach on the kitchen. Thats all that was needed to be seen to decide against renting interest.

As a resident of 14 months, I can say from experience that ALL the staff at Spice Tree Apartments are phenomenal. Ive personally had the pleasure of being in contact with most of them in various capacities.Christina and Andrea are the Property Manager and Assistant Property Manager of the property. Theyre always genuinely happy to help you with any questions you may have. The leasing team of Matt, Sagor, DJ, and Jeremy is always pleasant and willing to help you address any questions you may have.Recently I made an online maintenance request because I accidentally broke a part of my kitchen drawer. Matt and Craig showed up and had the drawer fixed, good as new, in a matter of minutes. Maintenance request from me are few and far in between, but Ive also had contact with Jason in the past who was equally as helpful. I am thankful that making and receiving maintenance request is so simple and effective. The units themselves are modern and spacious. The neighborhood itself is quiet and in-building laundry is convenient.Id definitely recommend Spice Tree!

This place isnt worth what theyre charging. First of all many of the positive reviews here are due to one of many promotions where they would give you a discount on the rent for a positive review. They posted papers on all of the buildings promoting this. One that is currently up is attached. They claimed that all of the units have received extensive renovations, this is a far cry from it actually received. All of the windows were replaced, but were done poorly and there is exposed fiberglass and drafts coming in through the windows. The unit was painted, but its sad how poorly it was done. The appliances are new, but they are still the cheapest appliances money can buy. When I moved in, my breaker panel was painted over, as were my vents, any blemishes on the walls or trimming on the ground etc. Speaking of the breaker panel, all of the plugs in the kitchen, living room and bedroom are on one circuit. Which means if you try to run the microwave, computer and tv at the same time you will flip the breaker. Shutting down everything.Going to running cost, its a good thing this place covers heat and gas, otherwise I would have gone broke. AC costs during the summer were astonishing. My father who lives 10 miles away in a 2400 square foot house had cheaper electricity bills than me in this apartment. When they renovated they were too cheap to replace the 50 year old mecury thermometers. I bet theyve spent more money on heating my apartment so far than theyve saved from not replacing that thermometer. Furthermore, piece of advice, if you get a good deal here and do decide to stay here, order a bunch of led bulbs. The original bulbs they place in all the sockets are incandescent and waste a lot of electricity. For amenities, I didnt use the pool so I cant speak on that. However, halfway through the year they canceled delivery to the main office. So now if youre not home when fedex or ups delivers you wont be able to receive your package unless you go pick it up from them. Laundry is also extremely sparse. Each building one has a washer and dryer. So a washer and dryer with roughly 22 units using it.Edit: This has just been reversed due to negative feedback from tenants. They are now accepting packages again. On a positive note, the dual sinks in the bathroom are a nice benefit as is the truly new kitchen. Ours wasnt installed entirely correctly as it has splinters at nearly every handle from over tightening, but it is nice being able to work on quartz countertops instead of the typical plastic/wood ones you see in cheap apartments. The kitchen does not have a garbage disposal though. The bathroom was not completely renovated, it has new floor tile and a new sink/cabinet. The shower, fan, mirror and lights are from previous.I went to this apartment thinking that it was a good value considering it was renovated and under new management. This was an inbetween from renting a nicer luxury place and a cheaper budget place. What I got was a place that looked like a luxury place but functioned and felt like a lot closer to a cheap place. My advice is that for the 250 a month premium over nearby cheap units, its not worth it. At 150, its decent value and at 50 over its a good value. Its a nicer cheap apartment, not a mid-level apartment. As long as thats the mentality youre going into this with then you wont be as disappointed as I was.

I just met with Matthew, the leasing manager, to talk about my options for an apartment in the next few months. I need a new place for my cat and I to live and it’s been an extremely stressful search. I had an appointment today with Matthew and he was very professional and warm. I feel like he answered all of my questions honestly and I felt a sense of security after leaving my appointment. I got some new information right after leaving and had to call back to update him with my new information and he was happy to make another appointment to meet with me tomorrow and fix up the paperwork.

Been living here for almost 2 years, and the staff are usually pretty nice. However, anyone who lives here knows that west of spice tree, the area gets bad, and because of this cameras should be installed. The Tire on my car got slashed and these people at spice tree with all the money they make cant even install some simple cameras around the apartments. Other incidents of theft have occurred and they really put no effort into assisting you, they just give you a card and refer you to someone. On top of that, as of the time this review is being written, the COVID 19 pandemic is going on. Many people arent working and people are struggling to pay rent, etc. And these people at spice tree have the audacity to CLOSE their offices and expect people to pay full time rent???? Spice Tree Apartments is not really worth your money or time and I would recommend finding a place within ANN ARBOR, which is probably going to be safer than living near the outskirts of Ypsilanti.

My wife and I moved into Spice Tree this year and couldnt be happier. We looked at a half dozen apartments before finding this complex and were about to settle on someplace else, but were glad we didnt. The apartment itself is beautiful and the one-bedroom is just the right size for a couple. Its got great amenities and a newly furnished look that we love coming home to. The two-bedroom is too much for us right now but it was also beautiful when we toured it and wed love to upgrade when we have a family. The grounds are also great, with two pools, a volleyball court, and lots of greenery everywhere. The location is good for us non-drivers, as the bus stop is directly outside the complex and there are nice restaurants and take-out places within walking distance. The best thing about Spice Tree, though, is the staff. They have been the most friendly and understanding staff we have encountered. They answer our numerous questions and always treat us with respect and a smile. Recently, our bank made a mistake and our rent check didnt go through. The complex could have easily charged us all kinds of fees but instead they waited nearly two weeks for our bank to write an apology letter explaining the situation. Its that kind of service and understanding that we appreciate. We love Spice Tree and highly recommend it!

Keeping it 100% honest, I was not looking forward to the renovations. Having to pack up all your things, move and rearrange boxes in various rooms, and endure a crew in your personal space for several days is not something I would classify as fun. But having gone through it, it was worth it! You feel like youre walking into a new unit. The renovations have definitely brought the units back to life! The stainless steel appliances, upgraded lighting features, dark finish, and hardwood floors really give the space a modern, contemporary feel.I personally am enjoying all the brand new appliances in the kitchen. The built-in microwave is such a nice feature! And the counter space practically doubled! Its so nice not feeling crammed when cooking. The double sinks in the bathroom are an added bonus as well.Overall, the renovations are a definite upgrade and really make your unit feel homey. Youre happy to come home to your nice, comfortable space. And you really cant beat the location and spacious lay-outs.New Review: 10/14/16I really like the outside improvements to the complex. The new black and gray paint have really given the complex a more modern, sleek feel. I think once the snow hits, the contrast of the dark colors against white snow will really look good. I also like the improvements to the leasing office. I think its a good idea that the leasing office has been remodeled with the same appliances and hard wood flooring as the units. It gives prospective renters the opportunity to see the spirit of units and complex. The updated bathroom is also great! It provides a lot more counter space, double sinks, updated mirror and light fixtures, flooring, and a new shower rod. It really gives the unit an updated feel.In general, the outside and inside renovations have really given the complex and units a great face-lift!
