Its easy to schedule appointments and they are always on time. Simple things like checkups (assuming that everything checks out well) go very well. However, Thielen is habitually dismissive of students health concerns and issues (I dont want to blow this out of proportion, maybe other people have only great experiences). Theres a bit of an attitude that young people cant really have health problems, and I thought for a long time this was just me being impatient or too demanding, but Ive run into quite a few people with this complaint. Some years ago I had some really serious intermittent symptoms, and I wasnt really greeted with any means of looking into this problem, just well, this hasnt happened in a couple weeks so maybe its all good?. Maybe theres some angle to this that I dont see that makes that a legitimate response, but its not good enough for someone who has their personal health at stake. Ive been here a total of 8 years for undergrad + PhD now, and have had a few serious concerns that were dismissed by various doctors as not a big deal, dont worry. I simply cant trust Thielen with my health after these experiences. Im left in that embarrassing position where one would really like to rely on those with expertise (doctors) but webmd and google have more reliably taken my concerns seriously and produced better outcomes for my health than Thielen has.Theyre also very often deeply confused about even the basic Iowa State student insurance policies. Of course, one shouldnt rely on the reassurances of clinic staff and doctors regarding insurance coverage, but they seem more willing than they ought to be to reassure patients about coverage. I made the mistake a couple of times of trusting this advice, and being burned with a highly inflated bill (in one case, paying six times the store cost of a wrist brace). Thats mostly on me, not trying to pin that responsibility entirely on Thielen, but Thielen is often a little too confident about these things.

My roommate went to get tested for covid here. They said it would be about 2-3 business days and weekends wouldn’t affect the time we’d get the results. We called after the result had not come in after that time and they still didn’t know. Its been over a week and we haven’t heard back from them at all. We have been keeping safe with no idea whether or not we should be able to leave our apartment and having to take time off jobs which we can’t. Little concerning since this is the place most college students come to get tested. If possible I would recommend finding another place if you need to get tested

One of my friend told me to visit the building regarding his bill. When I entered the building, one of the lady standing at reception desk, just asked me, how may I help you sir.I told her about the issue. She started listening to me very carefully, and then she guided me to the Billing and Insurance Desk. The lady sitting over there, was very nice and polite.I shared with her all of the details. Finally she told me how to pay the bill. After then I paid the bill of my friend.I was there only for 10 minutes.Im happy the behavior of the staff. They are helping and cooperative. Before going there I was worried how to deal them. When my work was done, I was very happy.Im thankful for them and I also pray for them.

Sue from the allergy and travel clinic is AMAZING. She is amazing at her job and so so kind. I have had nothing but spectacular experiences with the Thielen staff and pharmacy. Dr. Raman is also spectacular and professional.

My experience is similar to others who have visited - being told by a doctor here that I am fine and then being sent home where things get worse. I visited when I injured my ankle. After talking with the doctor, she showed no interest in looking into my issue farther and told me that it is probably just a mild sprain and that it would heal over the next few days. The next day I woke up and my entire foot and ankle was black with bruises. It took well over a month to heal. Others I have talked to about Thielen have went in for sickness and told it was just a cold, only to turn out that they have mono or something serious when they went to a different doctor. I would avoid going to Thielen.

Waited 30 mins after my appointment for the doctor to see me and then was told just fight the infection :) so basically, dont waste your time going there. Googled helped me better 👍🏼

The staff were super helpful. Especially the travel clinic! They got me every vaccine I needed in the same day as my appointment except yellow fever which was in shortage because of the recent Olympics, but they called me when it came in and set up the next available appointment. They also talk through all your opinions and talk with you about which medications would be the best specifically for you and your situation and insurance, but you still get to choose which meditation brand you think would be the best. I love this health center!

Dr. Scallon has been a great doctor. Knows each student personally and always remembers you. Staff care about you and your health. On site lab, basic radiology, pharmacy, physical therapy, and mental health specialists. Appointments are usually simple enough to obtain, same day appointments are even available most of the time.

Theilen Student health center has gotten a bad rep over the past few years due to false diagnosis and Ive experienced that on one or two occasions, but Im giving them 5 stars simply because everyone here really does the best they can dealing with the sheer number of students per day. Ive had excellent health providers each time who did their best to get me back on my feet as fast as possible

The mental health staff here have no idea what they are doing, epecially with serious conditions. They put little effort into trying to understand my symptoms before prescribing meds that slowly made me crazy and sent me to the ER twice! My semester is ruined. Im 20 times worse then before I ever stepped foot here. Just go to the hospital or compass tree. I will never go here again.

AWFUL. I stopped in after feeling very ill, went in and they told me it was just a cold and sent me home with a decongestant. Two days later I was in the hospital with pneumonia. Worst way to spend my finals week.Only reason for me to give them a star is the pharmacy, they can fill any prescription right on campus!

They really blew me off when I went in there. They barely examined me or talked to me at all. They just told me I had a cold and to take Musinex. After this I went to my doctor at home and it turns out, I had pink eye, an ear infection and an upper respiratory infection.
