We stopped in due to the Sinclair across the street blowing out our tire sidewall; the sinclair driveway entrance is atrocious! We explained what we needed; just a cheap tire to keep us rolling. And Darwin was super accommodating! We got a used tire, mounted, and everything for an extremely good deal! They made an extra effort to work with us in a pinch. They were honest, and straightforward. We were in and out in under an hour! I would definitely recommend them to anyone in the area!

Car broke down, just across the street. Asked them for help. Car got towed to them first, two days later they told me i would need a new clutch, because the Computer told them that. My Brother looked in to it after we had it brought back here ( $240 total ) and found out that we just had to pinch a small white clip back in to place .... with our fingers ..... . They wanted $1500 ( and the Problem would have still not been solved ) my Brother and I used two Fingers.

I like the place. Friendly, helpful people and they do not try to charge you extra money. Today I left my Subaru Forester for wheel alignment. I would pay usual price for it without any questions. But when car was returned to me, they explained wheel alignment was all-right, there was no need for adjustment, and I was charged only half of the price. It tells a lot about the place :)

We relocate animals long distances and had a bad tire in the middle of our route. We googled tire care and found Trickles Tire and Automotive. We are so glad we did. Darwin made room for us to get in and get two new tires put on to replace our bad ones and got us back on the road in a jiffy. Places like this make our work possible and we sure do appreciate Darwin, Derek and their team.

My daughter goes to Iowa State and called me that her tire pressure monitor light came on in her car. Living in Illinois is was a bit concerning with it being my daughter and everything. We both went online and amazingly enough we both found Trickles Tires & Automotive....my daughter checked her car in this morning and they got her car into the service center....I figured a tire patch repair or worse case scenario a new tire would be needed. Once the diagnosis was completed the end result was simply low tire pressure in two of her tires. I want to thank Trickles and there staff for being honest business people and for taking care of my daughters car. She will be getting a nice new tire pressure gauge under the Christmas tree this year....I thought I prepared her car for the 5 hour journey to Ames Iowa, my bad overlooked tire gauge. Thanks again

I dont often give 5 stars, but Trickles Tires & Automotive Repair definitely earned it. I had a slow leak in my tire and I called ahead to see if they could get my vehicle in. They were happy to fit me in first thing in the morning and were kind enough to give me a ride to work while they took care of my tire. They called later to let me know everything was done and I got a ride back to their shop over my lunch break. The whole process took 5 minutes to pay for (great prices too) and to drive out with my fully repaired tire. Excellent service and they definitely went above and beyond for their customer. Highly recommended!

Our daughters tire blew out right before she was headed home to Chicago for Thanksgiving. The guys found a used tire that fit her car perfectly and got her on her way in the afternoon. Highly recommend!

I took my car in two weeks ago to get a rear tire patched after picking up a nail. The shop ended up stripping my aluminium lug nuts on the wheel and failed to tell me. I am only finding out about it now since I have had to take my car to another shop to remove the two lug nuts they stripped off and buy new ones.

I took my car here to get the heat fixed, and Darwin was SO friendly and helpful. When he called to tell me what the problem (and solution) was, I told him Id like to speak with my dad first before going through with it. Darwin had no problem giving me time to think it over and even said he would be more than happy to speak to my dad on the phone if hed like. My dad (who is a diesel mechanic) said the price he quoted me was a fair price so I told Darwin to go ahead with it and they had my car finished up for me the next day. When I picked it up, he again explained what they did to it, and the price was exactly what he said it would be. Everyone I came into contact with was SUPER friendly and I would definitely go back in the future if I had another issue, and would recommend them to friends.

I had a nail in my tire so I took it to Trickle’s after reading good reviews. All I needed was my tire patched and was expecting it to be done in a day or so. I took it in and three days went past before I called them and they told me they would find out what was going on with it and call me back in 20 minutes. An hour and a half went by and I heard nothing so I called again, this time they told me my tire was done and I could come pick it up. When I picked up my tire my rim was scratched up and the tire was filthy. They also charged me way too much. I will never be going back here.

I have been going to Trickles since I started school at Iowa State. They are very student friendly business and understanding with student situations (commuting to class, home, etc.). Going on year 4 in Ames and I have never had an issue with them. Nothing but quality work in an appropriate timely manor. I recommend them to all my friends who also have had nothing less than a great experience. I am very particular with who works on my car and these guys have gained my trust. They are very knowledgeable and careful with all my aftermarket parts on my car, taking great care of my vehicle.

I have been going to trickle’s for years. We have had nothing but a positive experience there! We will continue to use them for many years To come the staff is more then friendly and willing todo anything to get you back on the road for a very reasonable cost!

They have always performed quality work on my vehicles in a timely fashion. When I was having problems with my transmission, they took the time to look for the root cause and fix that instead of recommending a full rebuild, which saved me probably at least a grand. They communicate professionally and respectfully with me, and tell me what is going on, what they expect will be needed to fix the problem, and a quote on pricing before doing any work.

If you want truck tires, you want Firestone.And this is where you get Firestone.Period.If your truck is down, or the cops are Richard Craniums and they wont let you limp in, they can come to you.Firestone tires have been the absolute most reliable tires for our trucks. And down time aint free.

DO NOT GO TO TRICKLES THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF! My husband took our car into them to find out what was causing the car to rattle. They told him it needed an alignment and new tires. So my husband paid them to look at it and paid for an alignment. Total of $102. ONLY for the next week while my husband is driving it the ball joint comes loose and separates from the axle, bringing the vehicle to a complete STOP. So then we needed to pay for a tow $125, and needed to buy a new ball joint and axle $200 all because they didnt properly diagnose the problem when he first brought it in. Thank god he was driving on a gravel road not the interstate. So he calls trickle, they dont want the bad word getting around about them, and they refuse to refund our $102, instead they said we will give you a free alignment, now I remind you they charged us for them looking at it, but they will not refund that money, just a free alignment. And we are just going to have to assume they will do their job right and align it right, hopefully. When all is said and done, we had to spend over $400 just because they didnt do their job properly and diagnose the problem. yet all they will offer is a free alignment, yet we are out the tow money, money for new parts, but they dont care, as long as their reputation is tainted. DONT GO TO THEM, FIND SOMEONE TRUSTWORTHY WITH YOUR CAR!!!!! hell we have taken our vehicle to George white, pay the same amount and get way better service.

Left on the side of the road mid day. Trickles was the only shop with the right tire that was WILLING to help me out in my situation. I got it towed there and they had me on the road again in an hour. Can’t ask for anything better!

Was in a near by town to Ames and was looking for a mechanic to do a rear brake job on a truck. I was referred to Trickles in Ames, IA. Brought the truck in and the job was completed in a timely manner. I picked up the truck and paid the $789 bill for rear brakes, I thought the bill was a little high but didnt complain, they got the job done. We drove the truck about 1000 miles and the rear wheel bearings that they had just had apart had burnt up on the left side. I had to have the truck towed to a shop and found out after the wheel bearings burnt up it had ruined the axle housing. Towing, labor and parts cost approximately $1500. I called Darwin at Trickles and was told he had to look into it and would call me back. He called me promptly and made excuses of what possible could have happened. Which made absolutely no sense to me and my husband as he has been a well respected truck mechanic for 35 years. Everybody has problems and issues but they do not handle those problems very professionally and just made excuses for their mechanics. I do not recommend ever using this shop as I do not feel the mechanics are qualified to do mechanical work, maybe they are better on tires but I had to learn the hard way!! If there were zero stars this shop would receive zero stars!

I originally went to Trickles to get my tires rebalanced. I knew my tires were in rough shape - and thought it might make things a bit smoother and fix a front alignment issue. However after taking one look at my tires, the technician explained that he couldnt in good conscience balance my tires due to their poor condition (they were almost 10year old tires and practically bald). He explained that he would feel guilty for taking money for something that wouldnt solve the problem for any substantial length of time.He talked me through my options and I was so impressed by his honesty and lack of pressuring me to buy/upsell anything. I ended up getting new tires and all the alignment, shaking, etc that wed been experiencing went away immediately. Ill definitely be going back for any future car needs.

BUYER BEWARE!!!!Had a flat tire so I went here at the recommendation of a local of Ames, IA. I was from out of town so I didnt know any better. The owner checked out my car and told me it would cost $105 INSTALLED. I come back later that day ready to pay, only to find out that the true cost was $165!!! When I asked why this was different than what he had previously quoted me, he just got frustrated and just said Labor without really going in depth.I wouldnt send my worst enemy to face that experience! One star is being too nice!

I stopped in 15 minutes before they closed and they were able to get me in right away and repair my tire immediately. Life savers when I needed the car for drill the next morning.

My sister, 2 friends, and a child were driving from Wisconsin to Arizona. Coming into Ames, they noticed the car began shaking. Initially, they thought it was just the car hitting bumps in the road. As they drove for the next couple minutes, it got much worse. They immidieatly began calling to find a mechanic. As they called, several places turned them away. Upon calling trickles, they advised them to get off the highway as soon as possible and to be very careful. They were 1 mile away from making it to trickles when the tire flew off. The impact from the car hitting the ground without a tire instantly broke several other parts of the car. They called and spoke to chris povah and he told them he was coming with a tow truck. He brought the car to the shop (after hours) and told my sister that they would do everything they could to get them back on the road. They didnt have a part that was needed. So Chris went to another place to get the part without hesitation. They stayed after hours, working hard to fix their car to get them back on the road. There was so much damage and they still managed to work so hard and quickly that it was ready to go in only 3 hours. Without the amazing work from Chris and his technician Eric, they would have never been back on the road SAFELY and as quickly. We are very grateful to have had their help and no amount of thank yous will ever show our gratitude.

One of the best shops in ames! I took my car in for an alignment and I was told that I would need an offset ball joint for my upper control arm on a 98 civic. The cost would have been about the same to replace the whole control arm, which included two new bushings and ball joints, so I asked if I could just take it back to get the alignment after replacing the upper control arm. They said no problem and after replacing this myself they aligned my car quickly and only charged me for a single alignment at $101. Not the cheapest place in ames but they were very honest and didnt tell me I needed to replace parts that I had just replaced, cough CARX, I would more than recommend this shop to anyone that loves an honest trustworthy shop!!!

Stopped in the other day to get a tire fixed these people were more then Friendly! They took my car in with out an appointment had me fixed in under an hour. I will continue to use Trickle’s!

This is going to be long, so bear with me. Just for background I am an ASE certified Master Technician, Advanced Engine Performance Specialist, Parts Specialist, etc., and have been working in the automotive field for 9 years. My father and grandfather are both automotive mechanics, and my father still currently owns and operates an automotive repair shop that was started by my grandfather. I have been working on cars my whole life. I currently live in Ames and work at a specialty drivetrain shop in the Ames area. There are two things that I cannot do myself: mount and balance tires (no tire mounting and balancing machine), and do four wheel alignments (no alignment machine).I keep two sets of wheels for my car, the stock alloy set and an aftermarket alloy set. Last year I purchased a set of snow tires for the stock wheels because I they are in poor shape already and I care much less about them getting torn up in the winter. The tires were pinned for studs, and I wanted to have them studded for maximum traction in poor weather conditions (this is my only vehicle at the moment). Trickles is the only place in the Ames area that even offers this service. I called them to find out about pricing to have them studded and they said $30 per tire, which really isnt bad. I figured that I would have them mount and balance there them as well, just to keep me from having to take them somewhere else first. I made the incorrect assumption that their mounting and balancing service would at least be priced competitively for the Ames area.When I came to pick up my tires I was shocked to find that my bill was $303. I paid it quickly and left to avoid getting angry at a secretary who has no control over pricing. After getting home I looked at the breakdown of my bill. It was as follows:Tire stud installation - $30.00 per tire*Valve stems - $2.50 per tire*Tire mounting - $10.00 per tire*Balancing – $15.00 per tire*Tire disposal - $5.00 per tire*Wheel cleaning - $29.00 for all fourWhich means it cost me almost exactly $40 PER TIRE to have my tires mounted and balanced. Just for reference, Walmart charges $21.50 per tire for the exact same thing, and $17.00 per tire if you keep your old tires instead of having them dispose of them for you. As much as I hate dealing with Walmart, it would have saved me almost $100 to take them to Walmart to have them mounted. This is unacceptable.I also realized that they charged me $5 per tire to dispose of my old tires. For that price, I’ll keep them. One of them had less than 10,000 miles on it and who knows, I might need it if I have a really bad blowout. I called Trickle’s to see if I could get my old tires back and get refunded for the disposal charge. I was told they had been thrown in their scrap tire trailer, but “If you want to come dig through it to find it you can.” Are you kidding me? I was never asked if I wanted them disposed of, a courtesy that I know for a fact Walmart will give. It isn’t worth my time to come dig through YOUR used tire trailer and do YOUR job for you. If I can compare a tire shop to Walmart and see Walmart as the better choice, then that shop is doing something very wrong.I sincerely hope from the bottom of my heart that honest mechanics put this shop out of business. At any rate, avoid the highway robbery that I experienced and take your tires to some place like (I suppose) Walmart or (better choice) Big 8 Tire in Nevada. Whatever you do, avoid this shop at all cost.

Had to replace two tires that were slashed; they were prompt in doing so before the end of the day as I asked--but wound up with buffed and polished rims as well for a $10 fee unsolicited. Headsup.

I was promised $290 including labor. When I went in they are trying to charge me $500 for it.

TERRIBLE experience will not go back. They never called about extra services that they performed without our permission. What kind of customer service is that? The owner is a complete crook.

Their website says they do roadside assistance, but when you call them, they do not perform the services clearly described on their website. Specifically, we needed assistance putting on a spare tire after a flat. They claim to do this on their website, but refused to do/sell the service when called.
