Local sailing refuge. Learn to sail or come with your easel and paint the tranquil scene or just pop in and relax. Very limited parking though. So walking in or cycling is best. There is also a nature trail nearby.

Jim Dienst/9 July, 2017: Just finished up the 2-day adult sailing class recently. Very professional and accommodating staff (owner, front office, instructors, dock team) and well maintained equipment. We lost the wind on the last half of the second day, but we easily rescheduled a second day later the next weekend (around our personal schedules) at no cost. Much appreciated! We had two friendly & very experienced instructors...Bill P. and Burt...that seriously take their jobs to heart. Highly recommend this course to anyone starting from zero knowledge about sailing...to those just needing a short refresher for added confidence.

What a great experience. We came here for a small work outing and did a 2 hour lesson with 3 different instructors (4-5 people per flying scott). Everyone had an amazing time and I would happily do this activity again or come back just to take lessons myself. The class was very affordable, especially compared to the area and the instructor I had was knowledgeable, patient and a great teacher. It was only 2 hours so we obviously could only learn so much, but we learned about some key verbiage and we each had an opportunity to steer while we were on.Its also a very chill group that organizes everything, which made planning this experience rather refreshing.

My favorite weekend activity is to rent one of their sailboats. Chip and his helpers go out of their way to make sure you have a good time. Easy to get out onto the river. Highly recommend this hidden gem.

I took their adult sailing course. Couldnt have been happier. Everyone at Belle Haven Marina are friendly and professional. Brian, my instructor was very knowledgeable about all things sailing and a great guy. Highly recommend Belle Haven Marina if you are looking for a fun and educational place to learn about sailing.

I learnt to sail at Belle Haven last week.. it was a great experience! Our instructor, Brian, was a wonderful - passionate about sailing and teaching. We spent a great couple of days on the water and also learnt how to sail! I would recommend Belle Haven to anyone who is looking for sailing classes in Metro DC.

Arguably the easiest and most practical approach to learning how to sail is to sail, and lets not forget about the instructor!!! Both young and old are welcome.

Poor management broke the last straw today by allowing an idiot slip holder to harass me when all I needed was 2mins to check the wind. I was in the way of his extended cab pickup (not) by leaving 5feet between my car and the ice dispensor. I have literally sailed on both sides of the globe and never experienced such small minded behavior and the inability for management to simply say, let the guy check the wind like we just discussed for a sec. The other guy drove off before me since he was more concerned about showing he could control management than he was actually blocked.

One of the best hidden gems in all of DC. They rent kayaks & canoes, sunfish, flying scotts, john boats and paddleboards. Can take the non-sail boats back in Dyke Marsh, where you are very likely to see the resident beaver or one of the many bald eagles and osprey that live in the surrounding trees. For those with more time and energy, you can hug the marsh coast and head south down the river loosely following the GW Parkway. While most think of the Potomac as a dirty cesspool, this section of the river is very peaceful and cleaner due to the presence of many different types of grasses that help to filter the water. The new addition of paddleboards is about 1/4 the price ($20/hr) as compared to the Georgetown boathouse offering the same/similar boards, and while you dont have the downtown scenery that Gtown affords, you will get the benefit of the marsh and wildlife. Staff that work here are all very friendly and welcoming. I would highly recommend this location to anyone who wants to get out and explore the river on a nice day and experience the joy that comes from time on the water!
