Love living at the Oliver in Alexandria community. Super convenient location, nice cozy, renovated apartments. I like that this is a small community, people and staff know each other better. Property management and maintenance people are very helpful and responsive, both on the phone and in person. They will go out of their way to make sure that residents questions are answered and issues resolved. Glad to be a part of the community!

The Oliver at the Alexandria looks like a nice place but its not as good as you think. When we first moved in the management was suspect, Ana was horrible but Brandy was good. Even though they started renovating the old apartments. We had a really terrible cockroach problem for atleast 7 months of our stay which then escalated into a rodent problem. They have 2 trash cans located in the back for over 50 unites of residents. At night itll be numerous RATS and raccoons which is problematic and unsanitary. They treated long term residents that lived there for a decade like trash and kicked them out to renovate for new demographic. The parking situation is really bad. Only maybe 2 cars can be parked and you have to buy a parking pass which you need to pay $75 a month for. They will tow your car even if someone is visiting you. Overall, this place is definitely the 2.4 stars that it is rated, location is good but the overall apartments are not.

I moved to VA from out of state and also manage an apartment community nearby; my experience has been rocky since the moment I applied. My partner and I applied on a Friday and the following Monday, the price changed because we hadnt sent all supporting documents yet... Our app was entered, $350 paid and the documents were sent THAT MONDAY, within 48 hours of applying. They were gracious enough to waive our app fees, but this was already a red flag. We were desperate to move before everything was shut down due to COVID, so accepted the increase. When we moved in, the HVAC did not work and the unit was not cleaned well, but overall the upgrades LOOKED nice. The patio blinds began to fall off every time we opened them or the patio door and my partner (who also works in maintenance) would repair them himself to avoid interaction due to COVID until the blinds could no longer be salvaged (not to mention, the blinds didnt even open properly and there are no lights in the living room). There were many other issues, but again left to avoid exposure due to COVID. This was not taken into consideration by the community at all; we were charged for things that should have been serviced before our move out date. The walls were EXTREMELY thin; my neighbors fought and the police came out often, loud music throughout the day and sometimes late into the night between 2am-4am. Parking for guests was nonexistent; you have to request a pass through the office and there were only about 5 spaces for the entire community, which is ridiculous. My biggest pet peeve with this community was that they dont properly communicate with residents. The water was constantly being shut off or something was being serviced and they would not even give a 24 hour notice! The apartment next door underwent a full renovation for weeks and we werent even given a heads up. They scheduled paint in the building the same time I was moving without proper notice and it was a complete NIGHTMARE; dust and paint everywhere! Out of respect, residents shouldnt find out about services the day before they happen. We also started noticing pests and rodents after the renovation, that we hadnt seen in the first 8 months being there. My partner found multiple holes and openings throughout the unit and behind appliances that had not been filled and they were likely coming from. Lastly, the notice period was not clear at all; I didnt even receive a renewal offer and remembered to put in a 60 day notice (most properties send renewals out prior to the 60 day notice as a courtesy...they obviously dont care about being courteous). I never received confirmation about my notice, i didnt know what my final prorated rent was, the condition the unit needed to be left in or even general estimates of charges.Fast forward and I receive a final statement with CRAZY charges. Working in property management, I have seen apartments left in all types of condition so I made sure to clean to the best of my ability. I was charged $120 and my checklist was labeled Dirty in all spaces. I asked for the photos that were taken and it did not include anything remotely Dirty aside from walls (which obviously got painted). I have been in this industry for a while and in VA for a year now, and with the way COVID has affected residents, youd think they would have a little more integrity; they have lost a lot of money and are obviously trying to make up for it with excessive charges. The quality of life there is not worth the price and there are many other great communities in the area to choose from with better prices! The one star is literally for Brandy because she has always been helpful. But overall, I would NOT recommend this community to anyone; there aremany better options in Arlington/ Alexandria/ Falls Church.**I had to include my own photos, since they claim their photos prove my unit was left dirty. Again, clearly trying to make up for rent loss with BS charges. And STILL waiting to hear from corporate after notifying them 2 weeks ago to dispute this... my company would NEVER.

Been here two weeks as of today, 4/09/21. So far so good. Excellent and caring Leasing Office professionals, and an extra responsive Maintenance Team. Overall, the area seems decent/safe thus far and the quality of my renovated apartment unit is great as well. Nice, small community conveniently located in an excellent area of Alexandria. Hopeful that my experience will continue to be positive here.

THIS IS THE WORST APARTMENT COMMUNITY IVE EVER LIVED. ANA WHO WORKS IN THE LEASING OFFICE IS EXTREMELY CALLOUS AND CRUEL. SHE SENDS NOTICES OF PEST TREATMENTS AND THREATEN THAT IF YOU ARE NOT AVAILABLE, YOU WILL BE CHARGED $500. ALSO, THE MAINTENANCE DESTROYED MY APARTMENT. I PURCHASED A NEW BEDROOM SUIT, A NEW SOFA AND THE MAINTENANCE OR CONTRACTORS THEY SENT WERE EXTREMELY DISRESPECTFUL, DESTRUCTIVE AND UNPROFESSIONAL. ONE OF THE MEN USED THE BATHROOM WHILE MY DAUGHTER WAS IN HER BEDROOM. THEY TORE THE HINGE OFF THE DOOR WHEN THEY ENTERED MY APARTMENT, THEY ALSO STOLE IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS AFTER RANSACKING A BOX OF MY PERSONAL INFORFMATION. THEY TORE A BIG GAPING HOLE AT THE BOTTOM OF MY MATTRESS AFTER RANSACKING MY BEDROOM AND NOT PUTTING THE FURNITURE BACK LIKE HOW THEY FOUND IT, THEY MADE SCRATCHES ON MY BEDPOST, AND STOLE THREE DRESSES FROM ME. THESE MAINTENANCE OR CONTRACTORS OR THE PEOPLE HERMITAGE HILL DOES BUSINESS WITH ARE CRIMINALLY INCLINED. WHEN I TOLD ANA AT THE LEASING OFFICE, ALL SHE SAID TO ME IS THAT SHE SENT ME NOTICES OF THE PEST TREATMENT AS IF THAT JUSTIFIES WHAT THEY DID TO MY PLACE. SHE, NOR THIS MANAGEMENT OR CONTRACTORS OR MAINTENANCE AT THIS PLACE HAS ANY RESPECT FOR THIER RESIDENTS OR THEIR PROPERTY. IVE ATTACHED PICTURES OF HOW I LEFT MY APARTMENT AND WHAT I RETURNED TO. AS WELL AS THE STACK OF PAPERS THEY RANSACKED AND THE DAMAGE TO MY BEDROOM FURNITURE.

I LOVE THE OLIVER! The staff is incredible and extremely responsive. They truly go above and beyond to make you happy, comfortable and part of the community. It is a small complex so you truly do know your neighbors and all the staff. The renovations theyve done are beautiful and super unique. Absolutely beautiful. We have lived here since June and just beyond happy.Side note: I read through the other reviews on here and they arent accurate... We dont have a main gate, we dont have security guards in buildings, I havent had a rodent problem (and I live right near the dumpsters) and I have never been treated poorly. Definitely not the Oliver reviews.Brandy in the office is seriously a godsend! If you are thinking about looking here, you should!

Pros: Anna and Brandy made my experience as a 1st time renter very smooth there communication skills is next to non miss them dearly and i dont even know them. Anna really went above and beyond responding to all our concerns we had since we were doing everything virtually and coming from another state her customer service skills are next to none. Brandy gave us alot of local info about the area places to go and ways to save while transporting. However Anna moved few weeks or a week after we got there. Then the feel changed as it relates to communication with adminCons: The bathroom sink faucets is a nuisance to us as the faucet have been poorly aligned with the sink it barely hang over the sink so therefore when in use the water runs on the sink and less in the sink and to the floor causing water all over the floor u have to constantly wipe and then with the kids it floods because they are not gonna be as mindful as adults. Also from we moved in we have been having problem with the pungent scent of gas and always report it and yes someone always comes but cant detect anything. What i hate though is the silly questions each time if im sure its gas and i have to work with gas most of my life base on my career. It got so bad it it gave me a serious headache and the baby for 2 days. So we hardly use the stove and im not reporting anything more because we have been missing our packages since we moved. I reported the incident because we had medication stolen which came one Saturday and by the time the notification came and we went out it was gone amazon sent it the next day in the morning and it was gone again so we set up a dummy package and we got the culprit. Anyways when reporting it to the new manager and the gas again she was rushing me and cutting me off like its nothing. Its so uncomfortable being here not knowing what happen or the outcome of what i have reported and still living beside these ppl even though we havent missed anymore packages since we confronted them. The amenities not much and too restrictive, you cant book on the same day for the pool plus no little area for the kids

The water shut off very often. There was drilling and noise every day at 8 am because of the construction workers. Last, they didn’t do anything to sanitize and clean up the building during Covid pandemic.

The Oliver in Alexandria, formerly known as Hermitage Hill Apartments is in a GREAT LOCATION, less than a mile off I-395 and about six miles from the District and a couple miles from Old Town Alexandria. It is located in Alexandria West, which has city-type living but in a quiet location. On top of the location, the staff (Ana and Brandy) display great customer service, their interpersonal skills are second to none! The community is very well manicured and nicely landscaped. My only slight complaint is that I wish there were more visitor parking spaces, and that we could request for visitor parking spots on the online portal. The positives outweigh the negatives so much, this is still a five star review. I moved into the community back in November 2019, and don’t see any reason to move anywhere else. Thank you Ana and Brandy for running a great community!!

Hermitage Hill Apartments are disgusting. Tons of Bed bugs, Cockroaches EVERYWHERE. Cops are here at least once a week. This place is pretty dangerous at night, some people who live over there are really terrifying, the main entrance is always open, and the security never questions anyone who enters the building, even at night. I didnt feel safe until I entered my apartment. No matter what, the prices over there are unreasonably high (you can find a better and a cheaper place within 1 mile.Poor management and leasing staff is not loyal while telling all facts about apartment. They are unprofessional and unfriendly. Please consider all other reviews before moving in., I spoke to the many people who live over there, and almost EVERYONE was highly disappointed. Please STAY AWAY from this apartment complex!!! I have lived at Hermitage Hill Apartments for the past 12 years and I find that Management has had a tough challenge because we have had a history of a small percentage who want to take advantage of the good will that managers have given us while changes are being implemented with respect to budget and cost because this is a very affordable space when you consider the other properties in NOVA. But we have a Police Officer Off Duty for Security. We have an outstanding Office Manager in Brandy, who actually lives on the Premises. Felix and Ivan are Magicians with a Property that has been here since 1964. Since it has been here that long the walls are solid and the noise level is low. We have Metro Buses and Dash right at the Entrance, great Schools, and a close relationship with the Mayor of Alexandria. There is plenty of parking near your unit. We have access to I-395 3 tenths of a mile E. on Seminary Rd. and DC is 5 miles N. up the road. I enjoy my view of the Washington Monument and I think its a great place to settle down and raise kids or work. I highly recommend this property.

This has been the worst place I have lived. As I write this its been four days and I have no A/C, last time I called the maintainance guy, he told me I live on the third floor open the windows its not that hot. No update whatsoever on whats going on. Weve averaged 85 degree weather. Today I went back home for lunch and when I came out my car was towed, this was 2pm. When i asked the office I was told its a 24hr towing. My lease states there should be two parking stickers per two bedroom apartment. Towing dont start till 10pm, i am not sure what the rules are. We have one parking sticker in apartment of three adults, no visitors parking either, while you can clearly see the majority of other Hispanic tenants have two or more cars, or work vans allowed to park. I have seen people fixing there cars in the lot. So I missed work trying to get my car back. I have purchased fans to try and cool the place. Theres a feeling theres a different set of rules depending on the tenant. I am trying to find out where my voice can be heard. I have tried searching online for the cooperate office, or contact information for anyone above the the management. I guess its my loss, regardless the short coming I am forced to go through as a tenant, I need to meet my rent on time.

Move here if you want your roommates to be roaches, rats, bed bugs, tics, and any other outside creatures. Also move here if you want to deal with terrible management style and liars. They never know anything because they are outsourced. VERY POOR MANAGEMENT AND STAFF. Im resident here for a year and a half and my lease expires in a month. I just bought car and they didnt want to give me parking sticker which is my right as resident. They gave my parking sticker to other person who is not resident so I need to take guest parking permit every day. Im very disappointed, they dont care about residents.Apartments = Trash. Dirty carpet, feces and urine raining from the bathroom ceiling, tics, maggots, broken closet door, destroyed blinds, thin walls, etc.Parking Spots = Trash too smallMail = Trash they never will give you a notification of your packagesI DO NOT recommend this place at all.

Overall conditions of the appartments are very worse. There are lot of mice and bedbugs for 1 year. There are mice holes in our appartment but they didnt fix it. When we complain the maintainance guy just came and try to find out where are the holes. But never came again for fixing them. Our kitchen sealing was liking with dirty water from the dishwasher of upstairs, and it took 3 months to fix the problem. There is no guests parking even in day time. Some tenants have pets. I found poops in our walkway. Really disgusting. The maintainance is really poor.
