This has been the absolute worst experience with any company filing my taxes. I paid $450 for my taxes to be done, they were filed late by H&R, I was charged by the IRS $400+ … and 6 months later the issue has yet to be resolved and I’ve received a check for $19 in the mail from this company to their “valued customer”, when I was told they would be covering all of the fees PLUS a partial refund of the services I never received.

No one ever answers the phone I haven’t been able to get someone to give me my tax return back I stopped in no one at the desk and one tax person working could not help me and he was so stressed out because the desk person I guess walked out. I haven’t been able to get in there to complete my taxes and sign it to get it done because no one is there it’s been almost 2 weeks. After I dropped off my taxes 2 weeks ago I tried to get a hold of someone it took me three days I wanted to know what was going on and they told me I was not required to file (which was false) but no one called to tell me so then they had someone look at it and work on it. But now I haven’t been able to get a hold of one person so that I can pick up my taxes. I will not be using them again.Jennifer Framer

This is an excerpt from the long grievance letter I have sent to the H&R Block World Headquarters. In that letter I also explained the other offices in NC and PA that have done our taxes incorrectly.For 2015, our taxes were done by Kay Kelly at 754 W. Market St., Akron, OH 44313. During this year we were partial residents of NC and Ohio. We made an appointment like we always do for our taxes; however, Kay was very late for our appointment due to her working with a walk-in client. This has happened to us in the past as well. If H&R Block schedules appointments, especially during tax season, they should be honored! Tax season happens the same time every year, so other people should plan accordingly. It’s not like an emergency center or hospital where others can show up and have a higher priority, this is TAXES. We all have the same priority level, so if I make an appointment, your employees should be on time.One of the amendments we needed was related to my husband’s previous employer not sending us the correct W2, so that was not related to H&R Block. However, the other amendment we had was related to the mistakes made by Kay Kelly. She had mislabeled us as being full time residents instead of part time residents of NC and Ohio. We didn’t realize this issue until June 2016 when we received a Notice of Tax Assessment from NC stating we owe them $1,403.12. So we had to go to H&R Block in Fairlawn, Ohio to speak to Jeremy Thompson about the issue and for him to do an amendment to fix the mistakes made by Kay. I dealt with the consequences of her mistake all through August as well, since I was never told amendments take up to 6 months to be received, and we were concerned by the other notices we were receiving from NC. I contacted NC Dept. of Revenue and Donna McCann at H&R Block in August, which is when we finally confirmed that they received the amendments and that we have a zero balance with NC Dept. of Revenue.The purpose of this grievance is to highlight the many ways H&R Block has failed its clients. As you can see, we have done our taxes at numerous offices, since we have lived in North Carolina, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. We thought that the issues we had may be only related to the people at those offices, but we now realize that the whole company of H&R Block fails to hire employees that can complete their job and do taxes correctly. H&R Block claims to have “highly trained professionals”; however, this is misleading. I can only hope this letter will create positive changes to the treatment of future clients (which will not include my family) and for H&R Block to require higher levels of competency and training for the employees of their company.So in conclusion, if you want to have your taxes prepared and done incorrectly, and then have to deal with their mistakes for months (or years) on end, then I would recommend H&R Block to help you. If you want your taxes done properly, I suggest you take them elsewhere.UPDATE/REPLY TO OWNER:I have already been in contact with the support team. Things have been resolved, but things shouldnt have been so messed up in the first place. That is why I am leaving this review so that others know how H&R Block handles their clients.
