The music coming from the exercise class room is so loud you can not hear your own music. They allow the doors to be wedged fully open with weights. If you are in that area it is extremely distracting. Today I witnessed someone closing the door and Ed the class instructor came out with an attitude and reopened it. He told the guy to turn up his ear buds. Unacceptable!

Reviewing the pre-pandemic state, mostly went in to play basketball:Pros:* The swimming pool is medium sized but typically underused* Steam room in mens locker rooms* Good access to free weights and machines* I havent observed or heard of stealing going on, so I felt safe to leave out phones and keys occasionally* Plenty of space in the gym overall, though it can get crowded during peak times, but it never seemed overflowing with people* The staff seemed nice and politeCons:* Its frequented by some of the most toxic basketball players Ive ever had the pleasure of playing with. The skilled players that try out the court for a bit end up moving on quickly because, instead of enjoying the game of basketball like an adult, theyre almost guaranteed to be arguing over trivialities with the few overgrown children who clearly didnt manage to do well in school, but regularly managed to ruin the game for everyone else. In the end, most realize that the vitriol and blood pressure spikes arent worth it and stop showing up, leaving only the newbies and people with inflated egos who are better at insulting others than they are at playing basketball.* The basketballs are old. You can bring your own ball, but you have to keep a very close eye on it, or itll get stolen by accident, even if your name is on it.* The court itself is on the smaller size, but decent - its definitely larger than at CAC. Broken nets get replaced eventually, The floor is usually dusty and/or rather dirty, partly due to the infrequent cleaning throughout the day, and partly because people will play with dirty shoes on* The treadmills are overused and old, and, before the pandemic, would have significant issues (e.g. the track skipping dangerously, unstable machines, broken machines that didnt get fixed, etc). Id frequently hop on one machine, try to run, find an issue and have to hop on another, only to find another issue. It was getting to unacceptable levels.* Lastly, BSC clearly squeezed as much money as they could out of their members during the pandemic. Im surprised there was no class action suit. It was a complete disaster and blatant highway robbery.

I’d give this place 1/2 a star if I could. Management level employees do not communicate well with their front desk personnel including the front desk manager. I’m baffled that there isn’t a plastic divider on the desk preventing members from leaning into the space of the front desk workers DURING A PANDEMIC. It’s not difficult to do and it is very reckless, talk about not caring for your employees. Even Market Basket figured it out. On top of this, front desk employees were told by those management level people including the front desk manager to stop counting how many members are coming in and out even though it’s a pandemic health and safety mandate. On top of that, they don’t hire anyone to help make sure the members are keeping their masks on while working out. There’s no way the front desk can do that when members are on the 2nd and 3rd floors! Best believe I will be reporting this place and those people BY NAME to the Board of Health. As a former member, I’m SHOCKED this place is even still open. Workout at home people.

I rented out the basketball court for two hours, so that a group of my friends and I could get a few runs in. We were told the max amount of people could be 50, and that we had to wear masks during the whole time we were there, which we never had an issue with. There were only about 20 of us, and we all complied with the rules on the masks. However, there were other people who were members of the club that were allowed in the gym, even though we paid to rent it out for the full two hours!! The supervisor would come up to the court every 10 minutes, as if we were children, and constantly threatened to kick us out for not following the rules about the masks, even though it was never anyone within our group without a mask, and instead were the members of the gym, that none of us knew, without masks. It was as if she had a personal issue with us since we arrived. Right when our two hours were up, she came up and told us to get out and leave, because other members were trying to use the court, which was a blatant lie. There was no one waiting to use the court, because the members were already there, using up our time! She never asked them to leave, or came up to them about their masks, not one time. I will never go out my way to pay to use this facility again! It was not worth how we were treated.

Please AVOID this gym at all costs. This is the first time Ive ever written a review like this in my life.-Ive cancelled/frozen my account several times since the pandemic started and keep getting charged random amounts on my credit card.-The staff and managers at the front desk are extremely rude and unprofessional. They rarely pick up the phone, tell me I have to come in person to cancel my account, make up excuses why I cant cancel (the manager is not here, there is a dispute on your account, etc.).-They refuse to send me a cancellation or freezing confirmation email so I cant prove that Ive cancelled. This gym is basically a scam and stealing my money even though I jumped through all the hoops they put in front of me. I am shocked that a business can do these kinds of illegal things in this country. Signing up for this gym like having a parasite that is impossible to get rid of.

This is the judgement loaded zone. The facilities were lovely, the people were not friendly or out going. There class offerings would not support an every other day workout. They provide a locker room, a beautiful lap pool a spin room, a yoga/ step studio and weight machines. The building is three stories high and has an elevator and stairs. I didnt see a gym pet se. Young woman were working out in full makeup and provocotative outfits. The men were grunting as they worked out with their personal trainers. Classes are included in the membership fee which spears to vary daily. It is the place for beautiful teens to unattached mid thirties to work out.

Early in the pandemic BSC paused memberships, then recommenced charging without warning, including the annual membership fee. When I realized this was happening, I called to cancel my membership, but was told I had to go into their building to cancel my membership, even though that made me feel uncomfortable, and was advised there was no other way to end my membership. After reluctantly going in-person to cancel my membership, the membership fees stopped being charged, and I assumed I was all set, even after they made away with an extra ~$100 from my bank account. Two months went by and they started charging me again for the membership. I’m now trying to cancel again, and hope that I can finally stop BSC from having free reign on charging my bank account whenever they want to supplement their income. I’m now writing reviews to document my continued attempts, and warn other from not joining this gym.

I would recommend Boston Sports Clubs (400 Presidential Way), specifically I would recommend the personal training with Dom (Domenic Mastrangelo). I have been working with him since October 2018 on a twice a week schedule. When I met him I told him of my bad back that I have dealt with for decades, but recently I had been in a constant level of lower back pain for a few years. I like to bicycle, cyclists have notoriously weak cores. Dom started by analyzing my overall fitness, strength, and flexibility. Dom came up with a plan. After 6 months of working with Dom my back pain went away. I was measuring the lack of pain in weeks, now I have been measuring in months, soon to be a year. It did not come overnight and it was not easy, but Dom has kept me engaged, explains why were are doing these exercises and sets, why he is targeting these muscles, demonstrates the exercises, and is constantly re-evaluating my progress. He is very knowledgeable about how the muscles interact with each other. If you are committed to yourself, your training, willing to listen and learn, then Dom will be a successful partner on your road to better health.

I recently joined the club to try and avoid other, less expensive, popular overcrowded chains. I assumed, of course, that a private, higher end club would less crowded. I assumed wrong. Every time I’ve been, all three floors were jam packed. Personally, I get a lot more accomplished and feel far more comfortable when every piece of equipment isn’t occupied. I checked google this evening to see if it was overcrowded before I left. It said it was wide open. I get there, the entire parking lot was full. That being said, all the equipment is new and clean and the staff is accommodating and friendly. But if you are looking for a quiet gym with a small amount of foot traffic, you’d be better off elsewhere.

All very sweet and they seemed to genuinely really care about my two daughters. I always saw the machines and floors being cleaned, and the locker room was pretty nice, though not super large. The pool was usually available for use, but did seem to have a lot of chemicals added. It was always nice and clean though. All machines were updated and many had TVs. The layout (3 floors) was unusual, but I didnt mind it. The new manager was very nice and accommodating, and I was not given any hard time about ending my membership, and was not charged any kind of termination fee. I started working with Domenic Mastrangelo on March 4, 2016 and I couldn’t be more excited with the progress I’ve made.I had arthroscopic surgery on my left knee in May 2014 and got no relief from it or from the initial physical therapy I received. It would take days to recover after running a mile, walking downstairs was a torturous pain, and not to mention no more playing all the sports I love to play (e.g., soccer, basketball, baseball, football… you name it). Now, in just 3 short months, with the workout plan Dom devised, I don’t have to be critically conscious of every step I make.He devised and tailored an exercise program that fit me perfectly and adjusted the plan based on my progress. To me the exercises, his teachings, and ability to motivate and push me have been integral to the progress I’ve made. In my opinion, our training sessions have almost been a combination of physical therapy and exercise (if I were to break it down to its core), but all in all I guess you would call it strength training.More importantly, in the first month of working with Dom I became pregnant and his knowledge base and expertise to his field hasn’t stopped me from making the progress I’ve made and hasn’t endangered my child in anyway. Moreover, Dom is very understanding and flexible with his schedule (of course when his schedule allows it). I have a very demanding job and have often been stuck at work later than usual and have needed to change our appointment multiple times. He has always been very accommodating, as long as his schedule allowed for it, and I’m very grateful.

All the Bulgarian split squats and Romanian dead lifts really worked! I was so happy to complete this fantastic journey this summer in good shape; no injuries or shaky legs. In fact, I felt great and totally enjoyed the 8 hour hiking days which had such elevation gains it was like climbing Mt. Washington every 3rd day. Im planning on continuing my weekly training schedule with Domenic to prepare for the next big adventure. (Lycian Way in Turkey 😊)These training sessions have become a way of life for me; I’m a musician and if my body is in decent shape, I perform better on my instrument and give more convincing concerts. Extremely disappointing after seeing all the great reviews. I joined about a month ago and have only been three times because each time Ive gone Ive been extremely uncomfortable. I rather work out at home but Im locked into a year commitment (shame on me). I just moved to the area and was looking for a gym other than Planet Fitness. On my first day I dropped by on my way home from work to learn the new route, check the place out and get my key tag. I was greeted by a nice guy at the front desk who refereed me to a woman in a cubicle by the door who was clearly annoyed she had to help me. She expressed her annoyance to the boy at the front desk by saying ugh, Im running late! Then waved me over and said Alright alright, come over here. when she asked what my member number was I responded with I have no idea, its my first day here. I came to get a key tag and check the place out... she responded with ugh, I can look it up. She gave me my key tag and I said So, I signed up online. Is there a contract or something I have to sign or look at? and she responded with What? No. You can go work out. I said I wasnt working out today and she responded with Dude, youre not going to work out? ... embarrassed I said, No, I just came to check it out before I start. Then she gets up to leave and I was like Well, where is everything? doesnt this place have three floors? Which she responded with What? Do you want a tour or something, you can show yourself around. SO AWKWARD. Also, let me point out that yeah.. maybe someone should have gone over the contract with me because when I signed up it said 1 month free, $5 down but in reality it meant The rest of that month free, and 5 down. So wow, great... I joined on the 23rd and only get 7 days free before they charge me for a full month on the 1st and then again on the 15th for an annual fee of $69.00. I called to clarify and they just let it ring off the hook until someone finally picked up. When I spoke to whoever finally caved and decided to answer the phone she said Well you should have read it correctly. If you joined on the 1st you would have had an entire month free instead of 7 days. Thanks, because that makes complete and total sense... ONE MONTH FREE! But only until the end of the month.. so not really. AGAIN, I probably would be less annoyed about these things if someone would take a damn second to go over this with me. Second day, I walk in not knowing where anything is and when I finally found a locker I made my way upstairs to cardio and the TV attached to my machine didnt work. Whatever.. I listened to my playlist instead. I get off my machine and I dont see any bottles of cleaner to wipe down my machine and notice no one else is wiping their machines after use. Does anyone wipe down these sweaty machines? They had hand wipes in the corner which I just ended up using. I go to head out and remembered they sent me a million e-mails about signing up for the app. I asked someone at the front desk if I could use it to scan in when I arrived instead of the key tag and she was like I dont know. I dont even know what youre talking about. When I showed her my phone she made a very quiet sigh and then said Again, I dont know. You dont have to use the app. I said well there is suppose to be a feature to log workouts.. is that for classes or does it keep track of the days you come in to work out? After staring at me for a second she goes No one uses the app.I have never felt so out of place! They definitely made me feel like such a nuisance and so uncomfortable! The least the could have done was take 5 minutes out of their side conversations to show a new member around. Instead I just walked around like a complete idiot. Im locked in for a year, but Im seriously considering just paying the $100 fee to opt out.

Ive been working with Dom for over a year and he has been instrumental in getting me into the best shape Ive been in since I was a teenager. My original goal was to move up from doing Sprint triathlons to Olympic distance. He put together a fantastic (and varied) program to strengthen and condition me. Left to my own devices Id have just logged more miles and more laps. Doms programs keep it interesting and challenging so that when my first Olympic race came I felt confident and prepared. Whats also great about Dom is that as my goals change he continues to adapt our training so that it keeps pushing me forward. I would highly recommend Dom to anyone looking for a trainer.

I started working with trainer Domenic Mastrangelo about 1.5 years ago at the Woburn BSC and am still actively training with him. My goal was to increase my upper body strength since that wasnt being addressed in my own exercise routine. Domenic helped me address this and I feel quite a bit stronger. I had no prior experience with any sort of weight training or core exercises. This was not an issue - Domenic is able to adapt to all ability levels and strengths, and makes beginners feel comfortable. I continue to work to increase my upper body strength and overall fitness level with Domenic and continue to feel much more energetic.

The gym itself is nice, its clean, I never struggle to find available equipment. My biggest complaint with this gym is the locker room. Whatever architect designed it should be smacked across the face. Its so small and so poorly designed. Surely they could have make better use of the limited space. The locker area is broken into 3 cubes which can only accommodate 3 people each (actually one really only fits two because of a giant column) so if there are more than 8 people getting changed you have to stand around and wait. I always dread going to this location because of the locker room.

I joined this gym under advisement of my workout partner as it was convenient for both of us from our homes and work. The gym is multi level with cardio on one floor and weights on the other. There are two studios for classes, one on each floor, and a good sized pool for lap swimming.Locker rooms are clean and regularly have an available locker. The workout area is mostly clean, although I have seen it dusty and can have salt etc tracked in from peoples shoes in the winter. The cardio equipment is functional although repairs Ive seen have led me to pick a different machine.Employees are friendly and helpful.

Re personal training sessions at BSC Woburn:I have been working with Domenic doing personalized training sessions over the last 5 months. I have been thrilled with the results and look forward to continued improvements with my training sessions with him over the next year. In addition to being physically stronger from my individualized workouts, I am enjoying the added peripheral benefits of regular exercise including improved energy, improved cardiovascular capacity, a better physique and the list goes on.I went to Domenic over this past summer with the primary goal of lower body core strengthening so that I could avoid the repeated hip and leg injuries that I was struggling with when I tried to run even short distances. He developed a tailored core strength training program targeted at the problem areas and escalated the difficulty of the exercises when he could see that I was able to handle more. Upper body core strengthening was also integrated over the following months to improve overall fitness. Over time, I noticed that I not only had resolution of bursitis and sciatica, but I was able to run and complete more difficult workouts with greater ease. Outside of the gym, I have noticed that I am able to do everyday activities and my other athletic pursuits with less effort and onset of muscle fatigue is significantly delayed. It has been a pleasure to work with Domenic in achieving my fitness goals. I am certain that I would not have achieved the level of fitness I have over the have over these last 5 months had it not been for the personalized attention and encouragement from Domenic. He has been attentive to my specific goals and solicits feedback about the workouts and often follows up after workouts to make sure there are no unintentional aches or pains as a result of a tough work-out. He reminds me of primary goals set out at the start and helps me get back on track if I veer off a bit and is encouraging about being able to achieve a greater level of fitness and set new goals for the new year. He listens to my concerns, modifies the workout plans for unexpected aches or pains, but also provides needed gentle constructive criticism when I am being lax during a workout. He takes his work and his clients goals seriously and it shows. Last but not least, he arrives at the gym for 6am workouts with his ever present sunny disposition and a smile and gets to the work at hand. I feel fortunate to have crossed paths with such a great trainer and look forward to working with him in 2016 to achieve even greater fitness.

The gym is good but good luck getting a hold of someone when you went to change your membership (unless it means more money for them).Walked in and asked someone to make changes to my plan. Need to talk to the assistant manager - hell be back in 45 minutes. I talk to the assistant manager who tells me the manager, Courtney makes plan changes. Shes not in in but she will be in tomorrow and make the changes and give you a call. No response - I call back three days later and leave Courtney a message to call me. Nothing, nada - must be to busy signing people up for long term contracts.

This review is specifically for trainer Domenic Mastrangelo at Woburn BSC. I have been working with Domenic for over a year now. As a breast cancer survivor I don’t expect to make great gains but with Domenic’s help, I have gained back much needed strength and confidence. I give him the highest recommendation

BSC is now the cheaper gym. Didnt use to be. Is now. BSC is great all around. The only 2 things I would improve: 1. Cooler temp. in summer, and 2. not dropping weights so often (its loud!). Management in some clubs may be working on changing #2 and getting people to stop dropping weights to reduce noise. (As professional bodybuilders will confirm, dropping weights isnt necessary unless youve lifted wrong or become injured which shouldnt be often. If someone is dropping weights repeatedly, they are showing off, but in effect just annoying other people including those who lift much more.)

BSC is the place to go if you want to change clothes with 4 people (typically) jammed into changing area the size of a medium closet - CREEPY!! Staff Friendly. Equipment works. Locker room just SUCKS. Showers run out of hot water in the am. Line for showers in mens room. People dont always flush the 2 toilets and leave bandaids in the shower regularly. FIX THE CHANGING ROOMS PLEASEEEEEEEE!!!!!!

I visited this club on a snowy Sunday because I wanted to try a gym closer to my place as opposed to the ultra pricey gym I am a member at in Downtown Boston. I was really impressed by the clubs size, cleanliness, and friendly staff and patrons. Things appear to be mostly organized and the locker rooms were also clean. They had pretty much all the equipment I could ask for but wasnt as big of a fan of the multi floor layout. An irony of my workouts... I really dont want to be going up and down stairs too much to find what Im looking for. The cardio machines were also pretty good, although several had bad LED TVs attached or malfunctioning headphone jacks, everything was mostly in order.I would recommend this gym if you live or work close by.

I joined the BSC a little over a year ago looking to feel better and loose that extra baby weight that had been hanging around. The location is great as it is right around the corner from my office allowing me to get there more frequently...or so I thought!  I was consistently going for the first few months and then fell off the wagon for longer than I had hoped. (as many of us do) When I finally came back I told myself that I needed to step it up - do something different. A personal trainer should do the trick - but would I like it??  I signed up for a 3 pack thinking what is the worst thing that could happen - Nothing?!  Back in May I was introduced to Domenic A. Mastrangelo for my evaluation and training sessions. I loved it.  It was out of my routine and pushed me but I was still comfortable. Working with Domenic has been amazing and is the boost I needed to get myself back together.First and foremost, Dom listens.  I told him at the beginning that I didnt need/or want to be super small just stronger and he has never forgotten that.  He has an easy going way about him that pushes you without you even knowing it.  (I now love the gym and go 5 days a week and see him twice a week - what the heck!)  About 2 months ago I told him that I really wanted to focus on a certain area and he said - Ok - but are you ready?  I buckled myself in and can happily say I am down 9 inches in that area and looking forward the next little project.  Domenic wants to make sure that you the client are happy even if that means changing up an exercise or finding new ways to hold the equipment. You (the client) need to be happy so that the results can come.   Thank you Dom for pushing me, encouraging me to work outside of my box, and giving me the strength to become the person that I want to be. 12.5 pounds and 14 inches in only the past 2 months - Fabulous!  I feel like I have my own little army with your support.  I have refereed Domenic already and will do so again a million times over.  He is results driven, cares about his clients and the motivator you need to accomplish your fitness goals. He is a 5 out of 5 stars for me - you should experience it for yourself, what do you have to lose!?!

By far the dirtiest, smelliest and foul mens locker room in any gym I have ever been too...including ex-US third world countries. Tough to believe. Woburn Board of Health must be asleep at switch as risk of MERSA and other health related issues is not trivial. This is a reflection of management in attention.

Very over rated gym company. The corporate and employees at the Woburn location believe just because of the name they can get away with not fixing equipment and slacking on cleaning. There is a reason they reduced the price, they need members to replace the ones who have left for better, cleaner and friendlier gym.The Woburn location looks large from the outside, but the lay-out is poor. The centrally located stairs reduce the square footage of the workout areas. I cant speak to the exercise classes, but the equipment is limited for the location off the highway.Better off with a locally owned fitness club or to pay slightly more to get better service and a cleaner facility. Even corporate gyms like a Planet Fitness care about their members more that corporate of BSC. It is too bad too, since the location of the gym is decent.

I am a 64 year old guy who has always been fairly active. But as you age, you need to work a little harder at maintaining basic fitness and strength conditioning. I joined BSC in Woburn and hooked up with Domenic Mastrangelo. We talked about my initial goals of improving core strength as well as some aerobic exercise as recommended by my physician. Domenic designed a series of weekly workouts that challenged me from the start and kept me interested in going to the gym on a regular basis. After a few months, we moved on to more strength and weight training (my choice), to improve upper body and back strength. As a side note...I actually do a lot more physical work in retirement than I ever did at my office job. After just a few months of weight training (still coupled with core and aerobic routines), I have increased muscle mass, look and feel better, and have more energy, especially on the days that I work out. Domenic spends a lot of time designing specific routines based on your goals and has a comprehensive knowledge of how to work all muscle groups and target key weaknesses. He is also very focused on form allowing you to achieve the best results over the long term without the risk of injury. I never thought I would look forward to weekly gym sessions. I highly recommend Domenic as a personal trainer.Added bonuses....Domenic emails detailed summaries of my weekly routines so I can workout at home with the same stategies that he has put together for me.As for BSC overall, the pool is great after my workouts, the staff is helpful and friendly, and the facility is clean. Yes, it can be a little pricey, but I am investing in my current and future health. Well worth it.Jerry PTewksbury, MA

Mixed review. I have been a member of BSC for many years and have been a member of this club since it opened. The good: new facility, things are in reasonably good shape, staff is friendly, exercise equipment generally available during peak exercise time. The bad: Incredibly poorly designed locker room, way too small which is inexcusable because this club was built from scratch. More than two people in the locker areas and you are in each others way, unfortunately there are commonly four or five or more people in these areas so it is very difficult to shower and change without everyone being in everyone elses way. Also they have not done any significant updates of their equipment since they opened and newer better equipment (which is available at other BSCs) is not available at this location.Bottom line: OK club, be prepared for difficult locker room experience during prime time and dont expect much in the way of the newest equipment.

Unfortunately, these guys only care about signing people up and do not look out for the customer at all. Ive been a member of Fusion, Golds, WOW, Super Fitness, etc. Customer service at the BSC - Woburn is by far the worst and beyond awful. First, the managers generally work when most other people are working the typical day job 9am-5pm. So by the time most people actually get to the gym, managers are hardly ever around. And if they are, they always happen to be meeting with a client except oddly its never been me.Ive also been persistent in calling the Woburn BSC and no one ever responds back. I got one return phone call out of 20+ made over a 3 week period. Ive emailed one of the customer service managers directly a couple times and never received a response. My wife has been a member for several years with BSC and is canceling because shes equally fed up, if not more, with the lousy customer service at this location. Its nothing like the Fenway BSC. She has called numerous times and no one returns a call!Honestly, its not much better than a $10/month gym. First, I was given the wrong gym tag when I signed up. Then it turned out I wasnt even registered in the system! I alerted the associates every time I went in, but they needed managerial approval . But like I mentioned above, there was never a manager around to resolve the problem. One of the associates (who I wont name) had the audacity to take my gym tag away and told me to bring in the original paperwork to prove I was indeed a member. I just grabbed the tag back and told him that was a poor business stance. It took 7 months for there to be a manager in the office at the same time I was working out! I typically go anywhere from 7:45-9 PM on week nights and anywhere from 9am-2pm on weekends, which are not unreasonable hours. Then, I noticed my wifes account was charged additional fees over a couple months. It took over a month before someone could tell me what they were - meanwhile, more charges piled on. The Customer Service Rep stated she would void them (not just try to avoid them). When we FINALLY got a hold of the General Manager George, he reversed her decision and basically told us too bad. When we asked for his boss, he refused to provide us the information and stated he wasnt required to give us that information. Seriously, youre better off working out at a cheaper gym. There should be different ratings on here. Because customer service is 1 star. The actual gym is 4 stars. Lots of modern equipment that is taken care of.
