They doubled my rate from $188 to $400 a month because of a ticket more than 2 yrs ago and one accident. For just a single driver. I understand bumping it up but not more than double! Then after telling me this she had the nerve to tell me thank you is there anything else I can help you with sorry you helped me with nothing.

I tried to cancel policy and they gave me a very hard time. I paid 6 months ahead and they said no refund on overpayment. They added my car back on policy after I sold it and didn’t tell me. I was paying for someone else’s insurance. They tried to double my payment for 1 car when I took other one off. I will never use them again!!

I recently submitted feedback to google requesting an option to leave less than one stars after having one of the most frustrating and frankly mind blowing experiences of my life. This experience is my interactions with AAA in Winston Salem. I urge all individuals that have to use this “business” to avoid it at all costs. The lack of empathy in this group is sickening - it almost makes you loose faith in humanity. They are rude, crude, frequently raise their voice, and have no intentions of being helpful. Like a similar review I read, I was told it would take many months up to 3 years (limitations) to execute their investigation. They then felt urgency, left one vm, and explained to me that they had tried to get in touch me for weeks. I will leave the details of the claim out to secure anonymity, but again I URGE EVERYONE TO AVOID AT ALL COSTS. If you receive help from Susan or Dierdra - I would suggest hiring a lawyer immediately

Tess Harper was my first agent. I was hit and almost killed by there Insurance holder who ran a red light. Sited and later found guilty. Tess Harper never responded to me. Sent me a letter finally saying she was trying to contact me with half of my claim number in the letter. That was her first time ever communicating with me. Took me forever to find my claim number and find her. Only got to speak to her on the phone one time.Now Terry Barko is the senior claims representative and allegedly my new claims representative. Very unprofessional hangs up in my face, calls me and tells me lies. Then never calls me back. When I finally catch up to her to talk about these lies that in previous conversations. she hangs up on me and refuses to answer her phone. Worst insurance company ever. Ill definitely be reporting this company to the insurance department board. Also forgot to mention its been 2 years since the reckless driving claim holder blew through a red light and almost killed me. Brian Hartman sucks too.

If you are involved in an accident with someone holding Universal Insurance be aware. They will try their best to throw you for a loop then claim their client was not at fault even if an accident report clearly point to them. Once you begin getting the run-around, contact the Insurance Commissioner and file a complaint. Also, a few of us have teamed up with channel news 9 on your side and their local station WBII 2 to expose their practices. B. Hartman and a few other names are on the listing for contacts. Get names for all that you speak with.

I would not suggest this insurance company, I have called and called and called and my phone calls are never returned. My claims rep B. Hartman is very unprofessional, she never returned my calls me to give updates and today I was told by the car rental that my rental will not be paid for after the 12th so I have no car. I received a check in the mail for 3k less then what the damages are to my car. This has truly been a nightmare from hell.-Jasper

I’m upgrading this co to 2 stars bc of a great supervisor name Dan. He did a great job helping out. I’ve been told by a local attorney that Universal insurance company does not pay a good or fair price on a replacement car when their drivers are at fault bc you can’t get your value back on a good car. I’m mostly angry at their customer who could have killed my son with their wreckless driving and who totaled my car.

I am still trying to understand why its been two weeks and I have yet to receive my refund that they said would take 5-7 business days. After a week, I called back to see if my refund issue had been resolved, they still havent processed it. Horrible customer services

If there were such a thing as negative stars, Universal Insurance Company would get -5 stars from me. ‪#‎UniversalInsuranceCompany‬ is THE WORST company I have ever had the frustration of dealing with, not only in the insurance field but in any field, anywhere, at any time. I would recommend them only to people who I despise, and only then to make sure they spend half of each day in Universal Insurance Companys horrid automated hold line.I kept Universal for several years, without incident. Unfortunately, insurance is only useful when you DO have an incident. I was in an accident in May of this year which, by the other drivers admission and by police report, was entirely not my fault. Since that time, Universal Insurance Company made several terrible mistakes, any one of which would have prompted me to find a new carrier. If you are interested in the details, I have, in my outrage, detailed them below.In Chronological order Universal:1)refused to help me with any information or legal advice about my car/claim/insurance adjuster2) on every occasion kept me on hold for at least half an hour, even if I had a simple issue3) took my deductible out of my settlement and send me a check without notifying me or having me agree to the process4) lost my checking information which had been current and active for more than a year, instead reverting back to a closed account number, which almost resulted in a lapse in coverage as they did not call me and only sent me a notice by mail a few days prior to terminating my policy5) raised my insurance rate after my accident (in the amount of $25 per month) after ASSURING me that it was a NOT at fault accident and would not change my premiums6) after I canceled my policy and got new insurance through ‪#‎StateFarm‬(love those guys!) they sent me a bill for $125.00 with a notice that said it would be sent to a collection agency within 10 days7) after the $125 bill sent me another for my increased insurance rate as if my policy is still in effect.8)Today, stupidly, I called to try to tell the company, for their benefit more than mine, that I had canceled my policy and had paperwork from them proving it. Alas, I only briefly talked to an actual person who told me he would connect me in just a couple of minutes to someone and we could definitely sort it out. I spent 20-30 minutes on hold before giving up, for the very last time on this wretched company.May Universal Insurance Company at 770 Highland Oaks Drive Winston Salem, NC 27103, their incompetent staff, their awful, awful customer service, and that ugly letterhead burn in the fire of a thousand suns.

Universal insurance company is a truly terrible company to deal with as policy provider or file a claim when one of their insured persons is 100% at fault for for damaging your auto/truck! When pursuing your claim the claims adjusters will stall,mislead, and even ignore your calls to resolve a filed claim. When they have a representative come to assess the damages they use 3rd party companies and will low ball the hell out of your repair costs leaving you to come out of your own pocket for repairs. Their business practices certainly falls under the category of cheap misleading scammers.. specially when 0% at fault. The customer service is horrible..cant even get a assigned claim adjuster to help or even on the phone. I left voicemails a couple times per day for several days and none of my calls where returned not a one! Safe to say universal auto insurance is the worst company I have dealt with and wouldnt recommend their services and fell bad for anyone that has to deal with them for a claim from one their insured policy holders that in my case hit my parked truck in front of my home. I personally am not the only person that has had to endure this experience..lots of other people are giving horrible reviews from experiences with this company. Honestly save yourself the trouble and dont consider them when shopping for insurance or dealing with them personally for a claim. Go though your own insurance company if you have a claim caused by one of their policy holders. Rating them on a 5 star scale they deserve a rating of horrible difficult make a bad experience even worse so they receive 0 stars. I would pay out of pocket before I ever deal with them again!!

What a joke Universal insurance is. If you get hit by a person with Universal, youre pretty much screwed. They will avoid all calls and never call back... Tess Harper never responded back to my 7 voicemails and 20 calls...

I was rear-ended by someone insured by this company and it took days just for them to be able to locate her policy. Finally one day after the woman I spoke with over the phone, after telling me that they didnt have the policy, searched a different way (what kind of awful system couldnt locate the policy with the full name and policy number the first four times?) and located it. Finally! Communication between them from then on continued to move slowly but at least I had a rental car. A few days of Uber until then was expensive! Last they were completely unwilling to reimburse me for over $350 of damage waiver fees on the rental car (my own policy on my older car at the time was liability only and didnt extend to the rental). I was told they wouldnt pay for coverage I didnt have. Sure, but I wouldnt have needed the coverage had their driver not totaled my car!

I was in a car accident with a client from this insurance. This is the worst experience I have ever went through. Its like they avoid you. They will not contact you, they will not tell you anything. They take a long time to get anything solve. I am still waiting to hear from them.

This company doesnt even deserve one star! I was hit head on by one of their policy holders and the insurance adjuster (Tammy) made it seen like it was my fault although the person who hit me admitted fault and that she simply wasnt paying attention.

Yea Im sadly getting the EXACT same treatment as seemingly every other customer. A Universal customer ran a red light, hit my fiances car, tried to leave the scene until she jumped out and started taking photos of his car and yelling Ive got your plate on camera, so he pulled over a hundred feet up the road, then gave the police a bogus insurance policy info, I had to call the DMV to track down that he had Universal insurance. Since then, ive made numerous calls to Tess Harper (the adjustor assigned to the claim HE made to get HIS car fixed, only he neglected to mention that there was a police report listing him at fault for running a red light), and alas, she has yet to return a single call. I would typically be kinda ticked, but luckily Im meeting my attorney tmr morning at 10:30am, and hell be covering official communications with them from that point forward.

If I could also give a negative star rating I would. My son had an accident with one of their clients on July 14, 2015. It took at least a week for a phone call, another week before my son could take his car for an estimate. We are now on Sept 9, 2015; a month and a half later and the car is still not 100%. They bring out this bettermeant clause and he would have to pay for half (WTH) because the exhaust would need to be replaced with a new one and not a used one.....thats not our fault. They had to repaint an area on the car, the body shop uses new paint not reused paint.....things sound shady. Now, they cut off my sons car rental and tried to notify him at 5:13pm (they close at 5pm) he calls back and waits an hour on the phone and gets disconnected.....REALLY! What kind of company is this??? I am reviewing this company everywhere I can and also with the BBB. You do not treat people like this that an accident is NOT there fault.

As a Total loss adjuster used by The Members Insurance Company, I am offered an amount for my car that when I enter the same Year, Make and model I find zero cars. When i expand the search to 250 miles from my area code I find a few, but they are all on gravel lot used car lots. Seems wrong that I should have to buy a more expensive car. Not to happy with my experience with Universal at this time!!

Worst company ever, had a blow out & I was told but agent that I didnt have roadside or tow assistant, next day president of company emailed to apologize because he had viewed call the next day...I had to pay a stranger to help me when Im paying for insurance every month..I was offered my reinstatement fee back because Im dropping them...
