My fathers vintage 50yo Fisher/AR stereo system hadnt worked for 30yrs, I thought it was beyond repair. I saw Action Electronics mentioned in an article about vintage stereo repair. Although a long distance from me, I took the receiver and speakers there. They required a lot of labor intensive repair which was completed. Yesterday I reinstalled the system and turned it on.. As they say it was priceless.. working perfectly and the sound quality is amazing and what I remember it to be. The owner, besides being very competent is a great guy. This repair shop is a real gem in todays throw away society. Highly recommended.

You couldnt ask for a better place to get your vintage stereo equipment up and running!Im a repeat customer of AE (Bob), and have always been thoroughly impressed with his knowledge, attention to detail, and outstanding customer support. The absolute only downside to the shop is sometimes theres a wait to get your equipment on the bench, but let me tell you, this place is well worth the wait.

I have grown a fairly large collection of vintage audio gear over the past few years and would have probably given up on the passion if not for finding Bob at Action Electronics. There is nothing he cant fix, and that includes correcting botched work from other technicians. From his 40+ years of experience, he knows what goes wrong, what needs to be fixed, and what simply doesnt. He sets expectations with you up front, and his turnaround times and prices are very fair. All that aside, hes just a very pleasant person with lots of great stories. You dont really find shops like his around anymore . . .

When I had a problem with the power supply on a high end but aging Linn Sondek turntable, the company dealership up near DC said it was not really serviceable and that I should invest $1900 (!) on the latest and greatest Lingo power supply unit. Thankfully Bob diagnosed and fixed the current one for a fraction of that price. Enough said.

I called Bob regarding a circuit board from a Whirlpool range. I was requesting if he had the parts for it as I was going to do the repairs myself. He stated that it probably couldnt be fixed or what I wanted to replace wouldnt fix the problem of no heat. I explained that the rest of the range worked except the heating element and that I thought it was the switch. He told me to bring the control board in which I did. He said there were defects in the board and there were a lot of components on the board that could be bad. I indicated two solder points that had melted away on the switch, and he said they were probably bad solders and from years of use they finally failed. He soldered them up in a matter of seconds and said that should fix the problem. If it does come back with $amount.I took it home, connected it and voila it works like new again! He is very knowledgeable and has been in business for the last 43 years!

My great experience with Bob at Action Electronics started with my initial phone call. He explained his store policy and also took some time to listen to the issues that I was having with my late 90’s B&W speakers. He spent about 15 minutes on the phone talking to me about my situation which I really appreciated. When I actually showed up with my speakers he took the time to troubleshoot the problems while I waited. He was very professional and efficient at diagnosing the issues and was able to get to the root problems very quickly which were: 1. A bad capacitor in the crossover in one speaker and 2. A broken solder joint on an extremely thin copper line connection in the tweeter.Bob fixed both problems very quickly and the second issue with the disconnected copper line required a lot of skill and experience to fix. After the two issues were fixed, he tested both speakers to make sure that they were working properly which they were! After my experience I would highly recommend Bob at Action Electronics and if I have any future issues with my stereo components, I will not hesitate to make the drive to Williamsburg.

The business card says Same Owner Same Location Since 1972. I like that. Owner Bob Hibbard is clearly passionate about what he does. Get him talking about listening to 70s music on the original stereo systems The way it was meant to be and youll see what I mean. I took my Dell plasma TV to him for repairs. He clearly knew exactly what he was doing to get it fixed. I recommend without reservation.

Dropped off my Marantz 6300 turntable for service and repair. Bob did an outstanding job with the service and repair and clearly knows his electronics and vintage stereo equipment. When I picked it up he explained all of repairs and service that he performed and even demonstrated to me all of the features that this turntable has to offer. He also set the tone arm up, adjusted the counter weight and the anti-skate, so I could enjoy it as soon as I hooked it up! Thanks Bob! I would highly recommend Action Electronics for all of your vintage stereo needs! Wayne

The man who owns this shop is great - about a decade ago, he rebuilt a 1970s Marantz receiver for me, and its still going strong. BONUS...no monkey business is involved !I for one am VERY grateful for his abilities! I will continue to give him any and ALL the business I can (we both seem to be on the same page with Vintage Equipment...LOVE IT!)Bob ,thank you for your hard work and your vast knowledge! Please ,folks ,remember when you bring in equipment this man knows what he is doing ...if he says he can fix it ...take it as Moses coming down off the mountain! If he says ...there will will issues fixing or it is not worth the repair...please understand he means what he says and there is NO reason to disagree with him!Great Shop! Great repair! Great Guy! I hope he stays in business for a LONG time! One note, for all of you that need repair of beloved equipment...Call Him first, just to see if he is in and can handle the problem! he will promptly respond. If you have a vintage turntable and you need it repaired, this is the place to take it. My girlfriend and I bought a 1969 Victrola floor model turntable and speaker system that did nothing more than plug into the wall when we bought it. We took it to Action Electronics in Williamsburg and we are thrilled with the results. The owner/operator, Bob, knew right away what was wrong with it. He delivered results and gave us a beautiful piece of music magic that is now our most prized possession. Plus, he is reasonably priced, especially when you consider his level of expertise. Our new (old) turntable rocks, and so does Bob at Action Electronics!

This is the place to go if you want to be treated with outrageous discourtesy. The shop owner, Bob, lost his temper with me, called me a liar, threatened to call the police on me, and kicked me out of his shop. Why? Read on. Several days before, he had fixed my old receiver, but when I got it home and tried to play it, connecting only the right speaker cabinet at first, it wouldn’t work. I called him the next day I told him what I had done to diagnose the problem. My diagnosis took several steps, which I repeated to him over the phone. He must have mistakenly thought I’d said that at some point, I had connected the left speaker cabinet. At any rate, he told me to bring the receiver back in. I did so. He opened it up and saw I’d blown a fuse. Then, in trying to explain what I might have done to blow the fuse, he mentioned that I had connected the left speaker. I told him he got it wrong, that hadn’t said that. He called me a liar and angrily finished reassembling my receiver, saying he didn’t work for customers who lie to him. I told him again he was being extremely offensive, but he insisted I had lied to him. When I again protested, he said, “That’s it, now you owe me 50 dollars!” Until then, it was understood there’d be no charge for the new work. When I refused to pay — he was now charging me simply because I had denied his accusation and argued with him over it — he told me to get out or he’d call the police. As I was leaving, he told his son in a loud, angry voice — obviously intended for me to hear — “You can’t fix stupid!”

Owner was not very pleasant. I tried to explain to him that the TV screen needed to be replaced and he would not listen. He said Ive been doing this for years and with that cracked screen there is no way a picture could be displayed. After physically plugging in a cable I showed him that it indeed would display clear picture and that it was just the screen that was cracked. He then said Im going to have to start charging you if we keep looking at this thing. In total we probably spent 2 minutes looking at? Not highly recommended but maybe it was just a bad day for him. I had a lot of business that wouldve came his way in the future had it been a pleasant experience.

I have lived in the Williamsburg area, on and off, since 1989. I never knew we had a local Electronics Repair Business until just recently. Action Electronics is a wonderful fair minded ethical business that I am so glad I found out about. I took my Bang & Olufsen vintage stereo components to this place for service. I am so pleased with the service and price offered here that I whole heartedly recommend this business to others who need their electronics repaired. You can count on Bob Hibbard, owner, to do his best to solve your problem and treat you fairly. He will fully explain what he is going to do and after the repair is performed he will explain everything you want to know about what he did. Although I never heard about this place, Action Electronics has been in business in the same location since 1972. This guy knows his business. I might mention he also has some nice vintage components for sale.... check this place out if you are a vintage stereo enthusiast or just need your TV fixed.
