Open Arms offers assistance to men in need of short term housing and other support. The facilities are more than adequate, but what sets this place a notch above - is the staff. In my, thus far, brief stay here, I have nothing but the highest praise and appreciation for everyone attached to Open Arms. The Director, Carlos Pernell, sets a caring and professional tone. An administrator who is also adept at point-of-contact and truly has a heart of gold, is a rare asset indeed. This organization deserves all the support it can get. If you are looking for a worthy cause - look no further.

Hay i was in open arms over 20 yes ago. I was going thru a rough time after the break up of my family. They allowed me to stay past the time that was required at that time. I got back on my feets and went literally from shelter to a Penthouse apartment on the Yonkers, NY Waterfront. From there I continue to elevate in my life. So yes I must say if you happen to need a helping hand. With people who been there themselves and cant wait to assist you. God Bless Open Arms and Thank you, too.

This so that many people do not get the wrong impression. Open Arms is considered one of the better shelters. But lets be realistic. A shelter housing people from all walks of life. Some have lost everything and then there are those that have lived a great portion of their lives moving from shelter to shelter. The staff are dealing with resident and emergency stays that have serious issues, most that are not privy to the clientele of the shelter. The focus is being active in locating housing. Many end up becoming complacent, the staff are there to motive and encourage to clients to continue. However there are those that think it is OK just to come and not do anything to better their situation. If you go into the shelter and sit with the wonderful Case Managers (Mr.Jaime orMs.Winsome) there you can develop and plan to help navigate you though the system and obtain suitable housing. The only thing that you should be focus on is getting your housing. Everything else will fall in to place if you are committed to doing what is necessary. That included Social Security, Housing Programs, Mental Health, Detox, Substance abuse, Family reunification just to name a few thing that Open Arms helps you with. If you ever need any help, I suggest you go there. You wont be disappointed.

I was in a bad situation for awhile. I managed to get back mostly on my feet thinks to open arms. Although it is hard for men to stay long periods of time at this location unless your placed in the system. I think it is a good place for homeless men or less fortunate people to get a meal if they do not have food stamps to get a meal. They normally have the walk-in show up around 5:30 PM. Only 5 guests allowed.

They have some what good food and a building but they have drugs on the property, the staff have favoritism of drop-ins and residents they kick people out that should be there but ending up taking people who shouldnt be allow back there and still bring them back in, kids are exposed to all of the things goes on there, the staff fight and goes against each other there and they lie to cover each other knowing that some people are trying to do better or knowing there get into legal trouble, theyre only in it for the money not for people well being they dont have the experience of talking to people morning and night, things get stolen they cant do anything about it even if they have cameras and so if you choose to stay there i advise you to go to jail cause that the type of place that drop-ins or resident has no rights of speaking up for themselves behind closes doors cause you gonna end up dying there they dont care you that are recovery addict or just starting a fresh life coming out of prison it to theyre advantage as long your a residents there money from dss that all that matters the most and dont believe the reviews you see on the post other people made before this post it just lies false advertising only workers are commenting it or making good deals inside and out of the facility to get good reviews take my word for it all shelters are the same no matter where you go you be lucky if theyre on you side

They need to do more invegation on these people more than anything cause how they treat people is disturbing even if they have clean records but theyre minds are not when it comes to people and the old director was still alive or find somebody suitable to run the place they would do a lot more better so if Kelly or any other higher up people reading this do something about it
