I am so glad to have chosen ATG for our Spirit of Alaska Tour! From a year cancellation and rebooking to this year everyone was very professional. To top it off, our guide, Rachel, was excellent! She was our fearless leader and extremely knowledgeable about almost everything Alaska and anything else we asked her. The group had good karma, good weather, excellent tours, and an A+ trip! Rachel went above and beyond to get to know each person in our group and make them feel special.

Alaskan Tour Guides made going to Alaska easily one of the best vacations of my life. Our guide Rachel was amazing and single handedly made this trip one Ill always remember. She knew so much about the state, the wildlife, and the best places to eat on the tour. She also took us to a number of places not visited by most major tour groups to get pristine views of Alaskas beautiful landscapes. By the end of the first day touring with Alaskan Tour Guides, I had started recommending this tour to all my family and friends -- simply put the tour and tour guide were both superb.

Amazing Alaskan AdventureThere are not enough words to express what an amazing Alaskan adventure we had with Alaskan Tour Guides Inc. From beginning to end the entire staff was always friendly and helpful and always answered any questions we had before and during the trip. We were extremely lucky to have had the best tour guide ever- Bob! He was so knowledgeable about everything and anything about Alaska. He has so many personal stories and experiences to share. Not a minute went by that we were not learning new, fun facts or amazed by his many adventures. We visited so many different places and stopped at local sights that only an Alaskan resident would know about. He truly made each day interesting and enjoyable. The itinerary was filled with so many activities like Denali National Park tour, Alaskan railroad trip, Alaskan glacier tour, the Dream Kennel, visiting small towns like Talkeetna, Wasilla and Seward while having wildlife sightings long the way and so much more. We did not have to think of a thing except enjoying our vacation. It was the best decision we every made taking a land tour with ATG instead of a cruise, there was so much more to do and see! It truly was a trip of a lifetime! Thank you so much to Bob and all of the staff!!

We just completed the Fall Foliage Tour. Fall Foliage is always questionable with the timing but we caught it perfectly. The higher up we got, the more the colors were just beautiful with bright patches of yellow and orange all around. Denali days were awesome. Hanging out with the sled dogs and hearing stories from Vern and Cindy were inspiring at the least. Cindy is the only woman to have reached the top of Mt Everest AND finish the Iditarod. And, she did all of that after being diagnosed with a rare disease. Awe inspiring for sure! Everyday had more to love but the very best part of the trip was our tour guide, Rachel. Her insight, experiences and stories were all just a bonus on top of her care and coordination for our tour group. Rachel is one of a kind and well never forget her. Fred & Beth

Just returned from our trip with Alaskan Tour Guides. It could not have been better minus a few damp cloudy days.. Small, group, comfy van, a different adventure every day with well organized providers. Our driver got us to places on time. arranged timely meal and restroom stops, and was enthusiastic about offering interesting diversions along the way. Hotels were very good and meal allowance generous.

We went on the last Fall Foliage tour of the season with Alaskan Tour Guides. Our good luck started when we met Rachel, our Tour Guide for the week. We were supposed to have a rainy week the entire time but that changed as soon as we met Rachel. We had awesome weather in Denali, Takeetna, Wasilla, Seward and Hope during each of our stops. The rain only came a little at night or a while when driving a bit. We were even able to see the top of Denali which was the first time in weeks that the locals said it was not cloud covered. If possible, do not skimp and miss the Air Tour with the Glacier Landing. It was more than worth it during a week of highlights. But, all of this was only made special by Rachel. Her knowledge of the area, her background and personal stories had us captivated all week long. She was truly incredible with meeting every little need of all 13 of us on the tour. Down to the last detail. She made each of us feel as part of her family. We believe that the word “amazing” is greatly overused but, between her personality, family, stories, experiences and love of Alaska, she truly is AMAZING! There, we said it and mean it.

Our tour guide was Mark, and he was awesome! I cant imagine seeing Alaska any other way. We had a wonderful trip. We saw most of the wildlife that Alaska has to offer. We floated down Rivers we went into the Gulf of Alaska, and saw whales, otters, and sea lions. The mountain views were amazing, and Alaskan tour guides made it all possible. We watched salmon swimming up River, and the occasional moose and Bear.

Amazing, totally awesome.....beyond our expectation. Alaskan Tour Guides were available to us as we planned and during the Alaskan adventure. Our group was the perfect size making it memorable beyond words. We traveled in a comfortable van seeing the salmon, eagles, moose and so many beautiful scenes. Each day was filled with new adventures from rafting, to tasting birch syrup and visiting sites that shared the highlights of Alaskan life. Dowie was our guide and she went out of her way to support each of us. Runs to the post office, going to the local grocery store for snacks, planning special dinners together or just sitting around a campfire, she was a special blessing. She made sure we were at each stop in ample time and arranged pickup for us when the excursion was over. We highly recommend Alaskan Tour Guides......Five Stars Plus!!

We had a great time on the Alaska Grand Explorer 10 day tour. We got lucky with the weather - beautiful, sunny & warm! - and with a fantastic group of tour mates but our guide Rachel was the key to a great vacation experience! She was so prepared with everything from binoculars to bandaids and had the most wonderful stories of life in the 49th state. The dog sled run was great fun and the Air Taxi ride to the glacier is not to be missed! Rachel and her team at Alaskan Tour Guides are top notch!

Took the Aug29-Sep4 Spirit of Alaska tour as a solo traveler with a great group of people and Rachel as our intrepid guide. I know ATG has great guides but Rachel is exceptional. The other reviews touting her expertise and personality are on the mark. My personal highlights from the trip:* Great weather - saw Denali, Northern Lights, and the spectacular scenery of Alaska. Kenai Fjords Cruise was exhilarating. No rain until last day.* Came to Anchorage a day early and took the Knik glacier/dogsled excursion with Alaska Helicopter Tours. Highly recommend.* Took the 11 mile Denali Rafting trip on the Nenana river. Highly recommend.* Nice mix of travelers - I was at ease conversing or having meals with any of them. Our interaction with Rachels family was an unexpected bonus.* Rachel steered us to good eateries and local merchants and products.Everyone appreciated that. She kept us on time and on task.* Dream a Dream Sled Dog visit - riveting presentation and activities. And of course the puppies.I could not have asked for a better introduction to the unique culture and geography of Alaska. Gina and Lynda in the ATG office took care of all the pre-trip questions and paperwork - excellent customer service in a challenging year. The toughest part of the trip? Saying goodbye to my fellow travelers and Rachel.

We had a fantastic time while touring Alaska with Alaska Tour Guides! We liked the small group size and the 7-days of sight seeing, fantastic places to eat, and special attention from our guide. When our clothes were lost, our guide took us to pick up a few things to wear until our luggage arrived. When my prescriptions were left behind in one of the hotels, the owners made arrangements for another guide to have them delivered to me at our next stop. The service was amazing. Our week was full of exciting places to visit , great meals and a day on a boat in the Alaskan Gulf viewing whales, bird and glaciers. A trip of a life time!!!

Sunglasses Lost But Not Forgotten!Talk about a company that goes beyond expectations in customer service. Alaskan tour Guides, Inc. did just that for our post Viking Cruise Denali National Park and Reserve experience. While traveling to our layover in Wasilla, I left my trusty sunglasses on the restaurant table at Summit Lake Lodge… duh. I didn’t realize it until we were over an hour away after the sun came out. Needless to say, I was the running joke with my wife and friends. A few weeks later I was pleasantly surprised to receive my trusty old sunglasses delivered to our house in Overland Park, Kansas just as they were. It was all because Mark K. (our tour guide and new friend) made the effort to reclaim them during a following tour. Now that’s shows you the thoughtfulness and genuine dedication to customers the folks at Alaskan Tour Guides, Inc. provide. Our thanks again to Mark K. our terrific guide who, by the way, can spot a bear a half mile away, along with Bob, Doreen and Linda for adding the icing to the wonderful experience.- Bill

We went to Denali and the Kenai with ATG in 2018. Gina was our guide and she was spectacular, never intrusive but always there when we needed her and very knowledgeable. The van was comfortable to travel in and everything we were promised happened as it had been described to us. Doreen and Bob are wonderful hosts, answering all our questions beforehand honestly so we knew what to expect. I recommend them without qualification. All accommodations were comfortable if not always luxurious. We were fortunate with the weather. Go in July because it gives you the best chance of seeing everything. One cannot control the weather but July tends to be the best month. Happy touring.

This was the most amazing trip ever. It was our retirement trip with our kids and grandkids and we wanted something smaller so the grand babies wouldn’t annoy anyone. They handled everything beautifully. From a pack and play for the baby to making every arrangement for our tours. Dowie, our guide, was the best person we could of ever had. It was like we were traveling with another family member. I hope to revisit the area again and know I wouldn’t trust any other company with that trip but Alaskan Tour Guides. The trip of a lifetime! If you want to see Alaska, and dont want to be on a ship with 4000 of your closest friends look no further than Alaskan Tour Guides. My husband and I were scheduled to go in August 2018, but I had a medical emergency and we had to cancel. Fortunately we had insurance, but not for everything. And Doreen made sure that we didnt lose any money. So the following summer, we booked again with them. This was incredible, a small van of 13 people, with a wonderful, down to earth, fun loving guide by the name of Dowie. From our first meeting, our train ride, rafting the lake, walking on the glacier (thanks to Doreen for that phenomenal homemade lunch) to great dinners, perfect hotels (not fancy, but hey, this is Alaska.) They thought of everything, hats, gloves, waterproof gloves for white water rafting, water, treats, any thing we wanted. The group was great and Dowie made sure that we all interacted with each other. The funny thing is that all of us felt that Doreen was our friend. We all spent hours prior to the trip asking question after question, and she answered them all.Do yourself a favor and book this trip. You will not regret it!

If you are looking for a tour company that delivers what they promise--look no further! From the first time I contacted them. Doreen and Lynda answered my dozens of questions--within the hour--best customer service ever! Every detail of this trip is just as described and Dowie is the best tour guide! She thought of everything and had the van packed with anything we could need--even ginger candies for those times that you might get a little motion sickness. One of my favorite days was after our Glacier Hike (which was AMAZING itself), Doreen had personally packed us a lunch and Dowie took is to a picnic table in the mountains looking over the glacier. What other company goes that extra mile? After our day of fishing in Seward, we didnt catch enough to ship home so Dowie knew of a restaurant that will cook your catch! We dined as a group on the freshest fish we had ever eaten--she is worth her weight in gold!We were allowed to stop if we saw something along the way. She kept us on time, but also allowed us time to enjoy! A couple of the days seemed long in travel time, but sooo much better than being stuck on a ship and dropped in a town with 2000 other people for just a day. Thank you for our trip of a lifetime!! Call them--you wont be sorry you did!

Reviewed July 1, 2018Grand Tour Great TimeMy husband & I have had a marvelous time with Alaskan Tour Guides & 10 congenial people we met the first day of the Grand Explorer tour. This was a first class operation with a delightful, knowledgeable, organized, and sociable guide, Dowie. Can I claim she was even responsible for great weather? The van was reasonably comfortable with only one long travel day. Stops were frequent and snacks & bottled water always available. Dowie seemed a careful & competent driver. Hotels were clearly carefully chosen, each with its own style & breakfast provided. Some hotels were flashier than others but all clean & comfortable. Restaurants where we ate as a group provided terrific food with variety available. Even before we committed to the tour Doreen answered my questions promptly and completely, allowing us to make decisions about which additional activities we wished to participate in.The scheduled itinerary was outstanding & Dowie offered some additional stops as people expressed interest in a salmon weir and birch syrup. She offered information & suggestions in each town for shopping, eating, & sightseeing individually, even letting me know which shops had quilt fabric. I’m fairly sure she was extremely busy providing transportation the discretionary day at Denali as the group went at least 4 directions to pursue different activities. Our only sighting of THE mountain was driving through a road construction area. While stopped, Dowie asked the flagman if a few of us could get out to take photos which was allowed. Anywhere tickets were necessary Dowie had them in hand and seemed to understand how to get us the best available seats, even an entire train car for our group which was not part of her plan. Dowie did a great job of keeping the tour on schedule, which was busy but not exhausting. I highly recommend Alaskan Tour Guides & especially Dowie as the guide & driver.Just an additional note: We arrived in Anchorage a day early which other travelers might consider. The major time changes, the long flights, and the extra daylight required an adjustment. I think we enjoyed the tour more because we were well rested & had some time to explore Anchorage on foot, tour a couple of museums and visit the Saturday market while realizing the near constant daylight was not a major problem. There was plenty to do & great places to eat in Anchorage all within walking distance of our initial hotel.Show lessDate of experience: June 2018

Great Alaskan Land Tour!We were looking for a land tour and ATG was great (my daughter gets nauseous in cars and big buses so we were excited to find a tour with a 13 person van - no nausea!). Doreen and Bob were very helpful when we were booking the trip. Dowie was a wonderful guide who knows Alaska in and out. She also had everything we could need packed in the trunk of the van (snacks, dramamine, laundry detergent, hats, gloves, etc. etc.! Nothing was left out. ATG chose very well in terms of places to visit - I especially loved the catamaran cruises (and recommend you take an extra day to take the large catamaran cruise in Prince William Sound - you hear about Whittier and Im glad I got to see it as well). The Kenai Fjords raft tour was amazing. Denali is a highlight (although I didnt realize there were upgrades to the tour chosen for the ATG group in Deanli which I would highly recommend (you go an extra 32 feet into Denali). We even took a small plane back to the front entrance instead of taking another 6 hours in the bus which is expensive but truly amazing and we got to see the top of Denali from the plane. You could also probably see this view if you take a plane from Talkeetna (the Talkeetna town was meh for us and if you take the fight from Talkeetna you wont be able to spend time in town which is just fine). The glacier trek on the Matanuska Glacier was also amazing - and enough adventure for me - if you like more thrilling treks this isnt it - but it was a nice trek on a glacier (plus the guides gave us a funny photo op - with an ice pick where it looked like we were scaling a wall of ice!)! We had a fantastic time touring an Iditarod Sled dog kennel and taking a short ride behind a team of huskies (in a type of jeep). Our travel mates - who we didnt know before the trip - were all very nice and welcoming of our family. You will definitely come home with amazing pictures of scenery and animals. Most of it seems unreal! You can see why people fall in love with Alaska and stay there forever. On the ATG Tour - and on the day tours - if any animal was spotted we were able to stop and take pictures of it (for the most part)!. You wont be disappointed!

Our recent trip with Alaskan Tour Guides will go down in our family history as one of the best experiences weve ever had.Gina Vukson was our tour guide, and she was simply outstanding. She was the perfect fit for our family: friendly and kind at all times and also a lot of fun! She anticipated our needs, and she quickly read our familys mix of personalities and made suggestions to suit us. One example particularly stands out.For a river raft trip in Denali, we had originally signed up for the Scenic Float. Gina suggested that we change our plans to do the Canyon Oar trip, which would be more rugged but still well within our familys abilities. My 70+ year old parents were the ones primarily to convince, and Gina kindly pointed out that they had already successfully gotten in and out of a raft on the spectacular Spencer Glacier / Placer River trip, and that this trip would be the same degree of difficulty as far as that was concerned. All they would have to be good at after that was to hang on when the oarsperson said so! Because it was Gina - who had steered us perfectly right for the past 8 or 9 days - my parents agreed to try it. My dad now says it was his favorite activity of the entire trip, and my mom is happy to have a good story for her friends! I repeat: they agreed to do it because Gina recommended it! Throughout the trip, we all felt not only guided by Gina, but also cared for, definitely respected, and even appreciated. All other aspects of the trip were also excellent. The accommodations were terrific; Denali Fireside Suites and Cabins and Denali Bluffs were both especially so. Every single person we encountered - from the hotel clerks and cleaning people, to the guides of all of our activities - were friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, welcoming... I could go on and on! The activities themselves - both the included suggestions from your company as well as the optional activities we added - were excellent. Almost each one of the ten of us has a different favorite activity - which signals to me that each and every activity was spectacular. For some of us, choosing ONE favorite activity is simply too difficult, again proving how outstanding every single activity was.I will be telling all of my friends about this amazing trip, and I will highly recommend both your company and Gina specifically. Alaskan Tour Guides and Gina Vukson made our trip a shining success. We could not have done it without you. If I return to Alaska, and I certainly hope I do, I will confidently turn to Alaskan Tour Guides again.

Our travel agent, MaryAnn of Ameranall Travel, suggested Alaskan Tour Guides for our land tour of Alaska. She continues to give outstanding recommendations. Our throughout the trip. The accomodations wher very clean and the beds great. The Salmon and Halibut are the best we ever experienced. We enjoyed the boat trips tour was very well organized. Our guide and driver, Bart, made the trip very educationally interesting re: Alaska trivia. He kept us entertained and engaged seeing the sea life and the glaciers; the trip to the wildlife preserve and the muskox farm were a delight; the highlights for us were the ATVs and the flightseeing tour of Mt. McKinley/Denali and the Ruth Gorge with glacier landing. This trip was the trip of our lifetime. Thank you so much and we highly recommend you.
