From my first email to the store, to the clerk at the front desk, to the 3 gentlemen in the back room repairing instruments, everyone I spoke with was incredibly helpful, knowledgable, professional, down to earth, and genuine. They went above and beyond to match me with the perfect clarinet, and it was probably the single best retail experience Ive ever had. Everyone in Beacock Music in Vancouver is incredibly knowledgable, passionate about music, and an incredible resource for the customers. Thank you so much!! I got home and could actually play the instrument (after a long hiatus) and promise to take such good care of it!

Whether you’re a practicing musician, a hobbyist, enthusiast, this is the place to go. Can I also mention they have a large variety of selection in each one of their departments.

*I am only giving a bad rating do to my most recent experience, outside of that I have had no problems with this store, and find it to be a great place*During this particular experience I had been shopping for a new clarinet. I have been playing for a few years, and was hoping to upgrade to an intermediate level. My price range was about 500-800 dollars, typical for a used wooden clarinet. To sum it up, I purchased a $640 clarinet, and when I got home, it was out of tune, and wouldn’t even play properly. I had planned on returning it, and out of curiosity looked up the model. Turns out they sold me a clarinet worth no more than 50-100 dollars. I’m not sure what they intended with their mark up prices, but I will never be buying an instrument there again. Here is a screen shot of a clarinet (same model) sold online roughly $500 cheaper.

To have a place like this in this part of town is a godsend! We purchased a piano here because we wanted local support. They delivered and set it up at home. All the staff Ive encountered KNOW music and some of them play multiple instruments which is very helpful when I dont play, but want to and unsure of what Im looking for. As far as quantity, there seems to be no end whether its strings, brass, percussion, etc. Ive been over several times now shopping guitars and they helped me pick out a few and set me up in their private lesson studio so i could session each in private for as long as i needed with absolutely no pressure to buy. Theres also a little coffee shop in the back and a place to sit which I think is a nice touch to the whole experience. Purchasing a musical instrument can often be confusing, what instrument fits your needs, style of play, as well as your budget. I have had the pleasure working with the Director of Band and Orchestra Sales, Wayne Thompson at Beacock Music. My daughter was in the market for a new saxophone and although I did some research, Wayne was quite instrumental in determining my daughters needs and helped determine what instrument would be the best fit for her. As often is the case, a decision to buy a musical instrument may be personal as well as functional. Wayne Thompson spent many hours offering suggestions and possible solutions to my daughter before she made a decision. If you are in the market for a musical instrument, I strongly suggest you contact Wayne, set up an appointment to discuss your wants and needs. You will not be disappointed. As often is the case, adjustments may be required when purchasing a new instrument. Wayne insisted that I contact him to set up this appoint as well. He took a proactive role when service was needed. An awesome experience and a big THANK YOU!!!

Ive been to Beacock a few times over the last 10 years and it seems to be kind of hit or miss on the service. The employees are pretty nice for the most part. The selection is somewhat limited in the guitars and amp selections. The items are priced for about what youd pay anywhere else (like Guitar Center).I took lessons here for a few months and the instructor was very nice and helpful, but I didnt think it was a very good value for what basically boiled down to $1 per minute. Im also disappointed that you dont get a small discount on lesson books at the store if youre taking lessons there - I suppose the cashier said it best: we like to make everything as expensive as possible.

One thing they have going for them is inventory. Its fun to go there and browse. I cant honestly give them a high rating because every time I go in they always try to sell me the most expensive item. Thats happened more than once and it gets old. Just yesterday I went in to purchase a guitar. After about a half hour (nobody came over to help) I took a guitar to the counter to purchase. The sales guy insisted on showing me other guitars. The one I wanted was about $250. He preceeded to show me an $800 guitar, then a $1,299 one. When we got around to the $4,000 models I politely thanked him and left having not purchased anything. lol Thankfully the one I wanted is on Amazon and $50 less anyway. Live and learn.

Great place for purchasing new gear. However, do not get your guitar set up or repaired here. Ive had two guitars looked at for electronic and intonation issues. The guy didnt seem to take the time to check his work as I still had the same issues when I got the guitars back. The guitar guy only works Fridays and Saturdays so he took forever on a simple set up in one case. He tried to up sell me, and did an overall bad job for way too much money. The guitars I had him look at still had the same intonation issues after his overpriced set up with feet filing and all that. The electronic issue I had on the other guitar has gotten worse. Again, I dont think he takes the time to understand the problem youre having and doesnt sufficiently check his own work. Wont go back for repairs.

I will never let them do any work on any stringed instrument of mine and will never recommend them to anyone! Beacock Musics guitar luthier, Rick Reiss, is untrustworthy at best!I play banjo and guitar and usually do my own work on my instruments, but I didnt have the right tool for a pickup installation. I needed the end pin hole on my guitar enlarged so I could mount a 1/4 jack end pin, but when I tried to ask a question about mounting the new end pin, he told me Im not going to tell you how to fix your guitar before I was even halfway through asking the question (had he let me finish my question, he would have found out that I was going to ask if he had a cork washer for the 1/4 jack end pin). At this point he had lost my business, but he still went into his sales pitch (which included attempts at flattery) trying to sell me work on my guitar that I didnt need. I told Rick that I was taking my guitar home, and that he had lost my business because he was so rude to me, to which he responded with Im not going to answer your questions; were a guitar repair shop. This was particularly shocking to me because every other luthier/repair person Ive ever dealt with has been extremely helpful and answered all my questions. Its a shame that I can no longer recommend Beacock Music to people because the rest of the store staff have been very helpful in the past. After my experience with Rick Reiss, I can no longer trust the quality of their instruments or the quality of their staff.
