I signed a contract back in October of 2020 and wastold that they would start construction around AprillMay of 2021. One the dig was started, we would belooking at a 12-15 week turnaround time. I wasextremely excited once I received a call and anappointment to start mid February. I will honestlytell out that was the ONLY good thing that hasactually came from this company. We are now goinginto October of 2021 and I am still dealing with thisincompetent company. I have kept every text frommy project manager Ron and willing to share withanyone that asks. I have a never ending list ofmissed appointments and extremely poorcommunication. Some of the contractors do greatwork when they finally show up and others are a hotmess. The plumbers have probably been the worstfollowed by the pavers. The plumbers have been outmultiple times now and every time they leave itssomething else. This leads to more scheduleappointments that are always missed. As for thepavers, at first I thought all was good but as I havebeen out on the deck I have noticed pavers that arenot level and some are just not secured. Also if youdo use them please be ready for a complete mess ofa yard as they leave material and trash everywhere. Ihave spent hours cleaning up the trash and justrelocating the just to one spot as they couldnt. If Icould do it all over again I would not use them. Doyourself a favor and find another company that hadmanaged COVID better and can keep reliablecontractors.

Do not use this company!! I have never left a bad review for any business. We signed contract in March 2021. There has been no communication from project manager, only when we personally reach out do we get a vague answer, excuse or no response at all. We have seen our project manager once and there has been only 2 days of work done since early June. Trash, cigarette buttes and water bottles left all over property from workers, they have been found sleeping on the side of the house and hanging out on the back porch furniture smoking. Multiple issues not addressed since job begun. Project was supposed to be completed in 12-14 weeks that timeframe has since passed and we are a long ways from a finished pool. Once the large second deposit was made…work came to a screeching halt. Drainage problem on the side of the house due to too much fill being left…neighbors yard has been flooded since construction began yet still has not been addressed. Very disappointed in the entire process.

Met with John with only a few days notice, very responsive, considering the other companies we attempted to work with THAT IS A BIG DEAL!! Got a great design, got a timeline, we sat for 2.5 hours going back and forth with ideas. I’ll continue to update as we get moving.

We hired Cody Pools to resurface our rooftop pool at our condominium. Jay was in frequent contact providing various design and material options, and kept us updated throughout the process. The work itself required the added difficulty of a crane to lift the equipment and materials to the rooftop. Brian and his crew were very professional and ensured everything went without a hitch. The resurfacing took less than a day and looks fantastic. These days working with contractors can be difficult at best, however we could not be happier with our experience with Cody Pools. They have earned our highest recommendation.

This company is on top of things. John Lalley helped us pick the size pool for our yard with the survey. We picked out all the tiles and coping right there. Got out price and signed up there on the spot. They live up to there promise. They delivered a beautiful pool. I could not be happier.

I wish I had signed with either of the other two pool companies that gave me cheaper estimates. We signed our contract in DECEMBER 2020 and we have not made a single change to the design since then. Went with Challenger based on them selling as the largest pool manufacturer and how long theyve been servicing this area. Instead, it appears they are having integration issues with their new parent company and customers are suffering as a result. Permits were not filed until over a month after we signed and, when the permit was finally filed but incorrectly, it took over 2 months for a minor correction to be submitted (though I followed up with the Project Manager, Designer, and Office staff almost daily). Ive left messages for the construction manager and e-mailed with no response.Paperwork and what they sold me on was an estimated timeframe of 12-14 weeks from excavation (expected to be done in June/July). Due to all of the delays in the office, they didnt start excavating until May. Meanwhile, they did not order pavers and coping until weeks after the permit was approved, even though the county was only missing a simple item that Challenger left out of the submission. We are now in September and we still do not have the materials (we went with basic pavers, nothing artistic).Instead of having a pool this summer for my family, this is what weve had in our backyard for months now... a dirt patch covering my entire backyard and a filthy hole in the ground. Meanwhile, two people I work with have signed for pools after I did and both are completed. Until Cody/Challenger figures things out and how to service customers appropriately, I recommend going with someone else.

Challenger Pools completed our pool on September 4th on time and it looks great. From our first meeting with John Lalley in April 2020, we knew we picked the right contractor. None of the other pool contractors spent as much time with us one on one. John never pushed us, but rather guided us into a interactive discussion to design the right pool for us with a price we could afford. The project manager was very respectful and addressed our concerns as they came up. The only aspect of the build that could be improved is communications of the weeks planned activities. None the less, the pool was finished within the window Challenger provided on day one. Overall construction of the pool went smoothly and all the trades did a great job. We are very pleased with the quality and the look of our pool. Thanks John for a great design and Andy for managing the build!

We had an excellent experience designing our new pool. Steve Geiger guided us through that process and was extremely helpful. He also address our concerns as this was our first large home construction project. Steve helped us pick out the right combination of materials, colors and sizes for our pool. Steve has a very patient and calm demeanor which greatly aided us in the decision making process. Our project manager, Todd Borsodi, exceeded in managing our expectations during the construction process. He was always available to answer our questions and address any concerns that we may have. Todd is very knowledgeable on all construction aspects and was very much willing to explains things in great detail. I found it to be a very educational process. In the end, we are quite pleased with the final results of our pool construction project and appreciate both Steve and Todds contributions. I greatly enjoyed working with both Steve and Todd. We were pool shopping and were lucky to end up with an appointment with John Lalley. He spent two hours with my husband and I on day one and helped design a pool to meet our needs. We made so many changes and John remained patient with us and went through every change and even gave us ideas as to what might make the design perfect. When we got home, our twin 16 year old daughters wanted to make some changes to the design to make the pool include their vision also….. We called John. He said “let’s do it”. But we had one small issue, we told him our girls were in school and wanted to be part of the process but we would have a hard time getting them into the office and we really wanted to finalize all and move forward. John suggested we download Google Duo and from our home we got the see what he was doing live and add girls to the mix from their lunch break and create the perfect design for us as one family with different visions. John helped us bring all our ideas together and suggested great changes to help mesh our individual vision into one perfect pool design.John was amazing, friendly, kind, patient and understanding when it came to designing our pool. We can’t wait to see the final product!!!!

TERRIBLE! Do yourself a favor and find another company. If you are already dealing with them please contact Cody pools and deal with them.I cant even begin to describe how terrible my experience was with Challenger Pools. I put in my pool a little over a year ago. Was told it would take 6-8 weeks, total time from start to finish was 10 months!!The process took so long that my loans charge window closed and had to work with them to re open it so that they work could be changed to the account. I constantly had to contact them, no one would ever get back to me. When ever there was an issue I would be given zero options, I had to be the one that said well can we do this? and they would say yes that is an option. Everything is sub contracted. I would be told that someone was coming out and they wouldnt come out for days. Extremely unprofessional. I was told by the sales person to quit calling the office after attempting several times to get a hold of someone.The only reason my pool was finally finished was because I was able to speak with Mike the President of Cody Pool.After this experience I will not be building a pool ever again.Look for your self, below is how my pool looked for months. Pavers set there for months. Every crew that came never cleaned after themselves, trash left all over the place. Rusted saws just sitting there for weeks.This company does not care about, you, the work, or safety.

Not sure who gets priority and why but i’m surprised to see so many happy customers. Jealous of them really. Similar to a previous review- we started the process in March - months after contract signed (originally with Challenger)…We have waited between 4-7 weeks between “next steps” yet we’ve given over $40,000 in a timely manner.I am quiet, patient and passive so I feel taken advantage of to say the least. Someone just came to do another next step and couldn’t even do his part because of the condition of the job site (my backyard) as of today.To say I would never refer anyone is a little of an understatement. I’ve been reliable on my end and you haven’t returned that. It sucks- hopefully this won’t make my waiting problem any worse than it has been.*** edited and in response to my response from Brett. Tried to call you this week and the receptionist will not get us in contact with you. Promised pavers by the end of this week at the LATEST and no pavers and no word from anyone on why. We have done our pool with Cody Pools(Challenger at time) in 2019.These guys go above and beyond to satisfy their customers. When a situation arises they promptly address it and fix it. They have a very good warranty they stand by and fulfill.John was our designer he is the best.Jeremy was our projekt supervisor.This guy is outstanding, he will not let you down.If you want custom work this guy knows excellence.He is v busy you have to have patience your final produkt will be amazing.Our DE salt pool is amazingYearly maintenance cost is around $150just recommended John to a neighborThank you

We have been working with Challenge Pools a Cody Pools Company since January and have had one of the worst experiences. First, we started construction in January with our construction manager named Eric and were told everything should be done by March, April the latest. Then, for not a very clear reason, our construction manager switched to Ken. Its July, we have a big hole in our back yard thats been collecting rain water, Ken is not responsive, and yet they almost have full payment for the pool. Please help my family understand how this is right?

After speaking with several different pool companies, we picked Challenger Pools. While the remodel took a little longer then anticipated, they crew was amazing. I think it was Jason and crew that did the re bar for the swim out and baja shelf. They did what ever I asked. Then Jason and his crew for the new pavers (Traverstone). They did a great job with the new deck. Some of the concrete didnt take very well, and they cam back out the next day to resolve. Robert, their supervisor was easy to get a hold of with requests and questions. He really heaped a lot when we poured the steps as he was hands on with the company making sure we got the exact steps (shape) we wanted. Ricky was awesome too, helping with final touches and new filter. We LOVE our pool again.

Great experience! Beautiful Pool! In a time when construction projects are experiencing some of the biggest challenges in history, this company really came through! Did it take longer than expected? Yes... 18 weeks vs. the expected 12, but considering the times we are thrilled to be swimming. From our designer John Lalley, to our PM Andy Avant we had a great experience. And if additional Challenger resources were needed to help is over a hurdle there was Maxine Gittens or Nicole Hollar to lend a hand. We had a few delay with some trades and materials. We had one hiccup with a design miscommunication. But all things got worked out. Communication is the key to a successful project and that goes for the customer as well as the business partner. Challenger Pools did a fantastic job designing, engineering and building my pool. John is a great sales guy that didnt BS me and was straight up on timeline and cost. Mark was my construction manager. Mark always kept me up to date and kept my installation on time. My wife and I couldnt be happier with the end result. Approx a year after our pool was finished we added to our patio and needed the deck drain to extend the paver area. I could not find the drain locally so I reached out to Emma. Emma took it upon herself to locate the pieces I needed through her wholesaler and had the pieces set aside with my name on them. She then called me back to give me the info and even emailed me the contact info. This is service above and beyond and, frankly, rare today. Thank you Emma!I highly recommend Cody Pools for their quality work and outstanding customer service. Call Emma today!

We met with John Lalley today. He came in on a Sunday during Labor Day weekend because it worked best for our schedule. He was very patient with us as we picked a pool area that best fit what we needed and wanted. We appreciate his business and would recommend him for any pool needs.

Extremely disappointed with the entire process. In the beginning, we met with John who promised the complete package and more....unfortunately it has been a very unpleasant experience. Our neighbors used a different pool company and we both started this process at the same time. They will be able to enjoy their pool by the end of the week... We are no where close to being able to enjoy our pool. Please make sure to do your research before using this company....I did my research, but apparently I did not research enough.

I texted Steve and he not only responded right away he also made the changes we wanted, schedule a Zoom meeting on the spot so he can show us the new 3D concept and after we approved he sent a change order for us to sign digitally and DONE!! ....I am beyond excited to keep working with Steve and see our dream pool completed. Like many, we read tons of reviews and met with several pool companies before deciding who to go with. From the beginning, Larry from Challenger was amazing. He was incredibly knowledgeable and eased some of the concerns wed had from other sales reps. He nailed our design on the first try, and had the foresight to include our dogs on the 3D design (it was the over the top touch that sealed the deal). The construction process was not flawless and we do wish there had been a little more communication during that time, but the final product is perfect and they finished in the promised amount of time.Our pool was completed last October. Since then we have had a few minor problems with the equipment (nothing to do with the structure of the pool) and they not only answer the phone when we call, they take action and address the issue immediately. They have made us feel like a priority and you can tell they take pride in their work and ongoing commitment to quality. We are so happy we chose to work with Challenger.

John was amazing and fun to work with. He designed a free form with a rock grotto waterfall and fire features. It doesn’t get any better than the pool he designed for us. We would highly recommend Cody pools!

A couple things - firstly, I notice that many (if not the majority?) of recent positive reviews are of the sales process, not mid-pool construction or after delivery. Wondering if people are being given incentives to leave 5 star reviews after the contract signing...Secondly, the project managers need to go to PM training (PMP or even something less intensive). Communication is poor to say the least. Communication is Project Management 101. If I am told that gunite will be done next week and for some reason the crew is delayed I expect some communication, even if its brief, to let me know that there is a delay. Honestly, that would keep me happy. At least I would be informed. At the moment I am in the dark most of the time. I get no proactive communication and often my questions or requests for an update go unanswered. When we are given updates on schedule they appear to be unrealistic. I am not in the pool building business but even I can tell that they are unrealistic. Another project management 101 lesson - do not over promise and under deliver!Thirdly, be prepared for your yard to be a complete mess during construction. I understand that its a construction site and there will be dirt everywhere, but I am referring to trash being left behind. When we had Elsa come through I had to go out and collect trash and construction debri lying all over the place to ensure they didnt become projectiles.I expected more. Building a pool is not cheap. If I spend $100k+ on a car you can bet that I will get superb customer service. Its not the case here.

Our pool was just completed this month. Jeremy Meadows, our project manager was very professional and kind. He always let us know what was going to happen and would answer my phone call or text right away. I recommended working with him at anytime. We love our new pool and plan to enjoy it to the fullest. Again, thanks Jeremy for our awesome pool.

Watching the entire process was amazing. I told John and Mark what I wanted and with their expert knowledge and experienced suggestions the pool turned out wonderful. The screened in pool more than doubled our family space. Great job challenger team.

With any major project there is always the chance for stress and frustration (as we are all human). My project manager was Eric, besides him having an awesome personality, he was very responsive and kept us in the loop of what to expect and what was coming next. Eric answered all of my questions as many times as I asked. If he noticed something wasn’t done correctly he didn’t wait for me to point it out, he was already on top of the crew to fix it. I felt as though Eric treated the building of our pool as if we were one of his family members and made sure every detail was correct. Thanks Eric!! You were great to work with.

Jay Masher worked with us to remodel our pool and convert to salt. He did a great job in designing the work. In all the years we had this pool it has never looked so good. Everyone remarks how good it looks. The work was done very professionally. We love the tile work and the salt water. We used Jay at the recommendation of a neighbor. We highly recommend them.

The people from challenger were very helpful in guiding us through our pool remodel. Our 1980s looking pool and patio now looks like a resort and spa! Jay, Brian and Robert bent over backwards to get it ready in time for our sons party.

We met with John loudly as a referral from our builder our builder was impressed with John’s work John did the pool for his home as well. After meeting with John on a couple of occasions we agreed on a design that fits our homes contemporary design and will look incredible we are very pleased with the design services and today we came in and picked our selections for our tiles interior colors in raised walls. I recently selected Challenger to do a remodel of our pool, pool cage, and lanai. I am very satisfied with the product. I felt they offered a wide range of options and price points. Jason (tile and pavers) was very good, as was Brian (customer support). Far and away Robert (construction Supervisor) was very helpful and responsive. If I had a question or an issue they resolved it quickly. I highly recommend Challenger.

John lalley was a great help. He’s very honest and up front about all the details. He made The designing process very smooth and put all our ideas into the design. He throughly explained the process and pricing for everything. He was very patient and flexible with changing the design. Overall great experience very professional, had a great pleasure doing business with this company.

Our pool and deck remodel came out perfect! Jay, Robert, and Brian were very easy to work with and made sure the project stayed on track and kept us updated along the way. Challenger was aligned in price with other companies we got quotes from. Our project consisted of getting pool resurfaced/retiled and adding a paver deck over existing concrete deck and extending it out for added deck space. Look no further and choose Challenger!

John designed a beautiful pool with a planter and water features, pavers and a screen enclosure, and brought it all in at a price that fits our budget. This company it’s a joke. Took them 10 months from signing to get water in the pool. It’s been 11 months now and still not finished. We provide to our project manager a list of what need to be done and replace. We went through refinance so we had no other option to pay all we owe to them before they even finish the job. So it been 8 weeks we are running after them asking to finish what they start not a response yet.I will not recommend you to deal with this 2 companies.1. Challanger pools sales only2. Mr. John from Cody pools was amazing at initial sit down, he went through the entire process with us and unlike the prior pool companies that we dealt with he was extremely helpful and acomidating.He did the entire color printing with us and what the pool is supposed to look like in the end of construction. Cant wait till its done.

My wife and I have been searching for a great company to build our new pool. We read a lot of reviews and did a lot of researching. Challenger was the only company that actually reached back out to us and had a conversation. A lot of other companies sent an email saying they were too busy at the moment and some announced an outrageous price within the first 30 seconds of the phone call. John Lalley and his entire team have been taking great care of us so far with all the designing and planning for our paradise. He has been completely upfront and informative of all details. I know we still have a long way to go but for right now we couldn’t ask for any better service.

We met with John and he was amazing signed up day 1, this mans energy and enthusiasm for our dream outdoor oasis was second to none. Emma greeted us and was so kind, then John took over for the most amazing experience. We felt we were in the best of hands. We had quotes and experiences with four different pool companys and by far John Lalley sold us in the first few minutes he was with us. This man loves what he does and it showed, his focus was our satisfaction and that is priceless!

My remodel project was completed within the x frame I was told. The pool looks beautiful and the additional - added paver decking matched the pattern of existing and looks great. Currently at the end of the 30 day curing process and don’t foresee any issues but I’m sure if something comes up they will take care of it. Very professional and workmanship seems great ( so far).

I’ve talked to a few companies an this one was the least friendly an kept bringing up the price like it was going to be an issue after I kept saying “the price isn’t going to be an issue” Instead of listening to my ideas. We can buy 100 pools if we wanted whether they know it or not so I was irritated by that. Overall They basically seeme like they didn’t want to do the project

This company is SLOW! They also like to use profanity and accuse their clients of lying! Getting my pool done by these people has been the biggest head ache of my life! We though since we’re really good friends with someone who’s a higher up there would have gotten us some leeway! They do not return phone calls! They yell at their clients for being frustrated it’s taking them ten times longer to finish their jobs! You know there’s an issue when the customer has to call and try to schedule their jobs for them! Which by the way none of the jobs are performed by challenger they hire all third party people to do it and to the best of my knowledge they do it very last minute! SLOW SLOW SLOW SLOW SLOW all I can say is that 8-12 weeks from dig date is a sorry lie! One star is too much for them I wish i can review and leave zero

I have an older pool that needed to be resurfaced and some maintenance work done also. I shopped on internet and called several companies and they didn’t show up to put in a bid or did not do what I wanted. Codey pools showed up and answered all my questions and put together a plan and most important they did what they said they would do!!!! I will recommend them to anyone and will use them for my pool needs in the future.

Overall, we are really pleased with the results of our pool. First know that this is no small job. It is some serious work and Challenger brought it a fairly large team to do the work. The prep work by Nelson was excellent. As was the pressure blasting people and the resurfacing team (7-8 people). Robert and Ricky really went the extra mile with troubleshooting the spa pump, which works correctly now. The sales and customer support was there from start to finish, and everyone was professional and courteous throughout. The only thing I would change is more hands-on support to get the pool running again. That is a small step when you see the rest of the work, but it would have helped us. We had a few small issues that were simple to fix, but you dont know that when you turn on the pumps again. You think it is a big problem. The end result is what counts though and we would hire Challenger again. One final thing - the work was done fast! Even with a number of rain delays, it was done A-Z in two weeks. Would have been one if the weather cooperated. Thanks!

Challenger pools did an amazing job resurfacing pool, converters pool to salt water system, and placing pavers around and over our old cement pool deck. The staff was very friendly and professional. Always available by phone for questions and concerns. We will definitely be a returning customer.

My husband and I met with John to design the pool for our soon to be built home. We have never designed or owned a pool, so we didn’t really know what to expect. John asked questions about our wants, provided options and designed the perfect solution. He showed us photos of previous jobs and explained the construction process so we had a clear understanding. Definitely recommend Cody pools as John showed that it’s about making us happy and not making a sale.

Jay came out and gave us a good deal on resurfacing our pool. Very knowledgeable. Pool was emptied, resurfaced , filled and treated according the schedule. Brian came out today to covert pool to salt and since I wasnt home, he even sent me pictures of his progress! He answered all my question and gave me clear instructions about how to proceed. Highly recommend!

⚠️⛔️⚠️⛔️⚠️⛔️⚠️⛔️⚠️⛔️⚠️PSA FOR THOSE CONTEMPLATING BUILDING A POOL IN TAMPA BAY:⚠️⛔️⚠️⛔️⚠️⛔️⚠️⛔️⚠️⛔️⚠️I STRONGLY caution anyone from selecting Cody Pools / Challenger Pools Tampa as their pool builder.My contract was signed in late October or early November 2020 and construction permits were approved on 12/5/2020. Pool construction began 1/4/2020, and the pool is still not complete despite the 8-12 week timeline that they are so proud to quote. Multiple things have been damaged on my property from my fencing to gutters to stucco on the side of my house and only some of these things to date have been repaired.The entire process has been one frustration after another primarily due to the near complete absence of any useful communication on the construction side. Communication overall has been extremely poor to nonexistent and generally consists of blaming any issue on COVID or an increase in pool construction in the region. While these issues may account for some delay of course, they certainly do not excuse the hideously poor communication or seemingly deliberate attempts to hide information about delays and back orders. It almost seems as if it is left up to me to divine how to construct a pool in order to identify what is left to be done. Company employees seem rather oblivious as to what has or has not been completed which would be almost comical were it not so COMPLETELY AND TOTALLY infuriating.Honestly, there is NO PART of the pool building process with Cody Pools that I would recommend. I made the mistake of not comparing multiple builders because I trusted “my gut” with my initial experience ….. DON’T BE LIKE ME!!!!

After meeting with John at Cody’s Pool. He helped put our ideas together to build our dream pool. The experience after our first and second appointment was great and can’t wait to see the final project.

Our pool was overdue for refinishing and we also needed some repairs and additional work done. Challenger was the only company that would handle all of the work, from refinishing the pool, to repairs to the coping, cleaning and sealing the deck and cleaning and repairing the screen cage. It was so great to have one point of contact for all of the work. They started when they said they would, worked quickly and efficiently and each day I knew what would happen next. They were also very responsive when I had questions. For the service we received, the price compared favorably to the other quotes. We are very happy with our pool and glad we chose Challenger.

We started the process with Larry our salesman. He was responsive and quick to answer the hard questions. We remember him saying not to worry because the pool would come great. And while I did worry when all the construction started. He did exacvtly what he said he would do. Delivered a great pool.Larry and entire build team did a great job. We had a challenge for Challenger in that we had a small backyard due to being on a corner lot. Larry came up with a pool design that used every available inch we had and still allowed us place for lounge chairs and a table.. The pool came out far better than we could have ever imagined. There were no issues and everything worked perfectly. The crews were professional and polite. And my wife liked to bake cookies for everyone when they were working and as a funny twist. While at the Tampa airport Mario one of the guys who laid the pool tiles (perfectly) came running up to us and said to my wife you are the cookie lady and told his family the story.We would use them again if we have the chance and have recommended them to our friends looking for a poool.Thanks Larry for the great pool.
