Alright people, I get it. Trash removal services occasionally miss pickups, hit curbs, and yes they charge a container removal fee (everybody does). WM is undeserving of a 1.3-star rating, though. The Sioux Falls crew works hard and after four years of service they have NEVER missed a pickup at my address. Calling in to cancel was painless and even though there was an error with my first request and I had to call in again four months later (when service had still not been cancelled), the rep was quick to re-submit the cancellation request and refund my previous statement balance.When I move back to Sioux Falls, WM will be getting the call.

First time ever leaving a 1 star review. NEVER use this company. They will miss garbage pickups, but never miss charging your account. You can email them, but you will never get an email back. (Emailed them now twice this week to please pick up our garbage). You can call them and sit on hold for 45 minutes before giving up. Will be canceling once I can figure out how to get a hold of anyone who works for waste management.

Was happy with previous service for WM purchased them. They charge fees for everything 😒 6.50 plus tax to mail a statement a cancelation fee..cart removal fee....very difficult to get a human CS rep. Find someone local

This company is a money grubbing, sad excuse of a service provider. They have ZERO local connection. Just witnessed their driver destroy the boulevard around McKennan Park. They do not use appropriately sized trucks for this area of collection. They should be banned.

Do NOT consider this business for trash pickup services. They have the WORST customer service Ive ever experienced. Theyve missed pickup on multiple occasions, but theres nothing you can do to get ahold of a human representative. Every time I have called about a missed pickup Ive been put on hold for 30 minutes, only to be disconnected. Your best option is to email them, and you will get a response about 4-5 days later. The company is too large to care about you. Do what I should have done in the first place and choose local.

This company is not good and I would not recommend them. They are more expensive than other companies, it took them 39 minutes to answer my call when I called customer service, they frequently left garbage in the bottom of my waste container, missed pickups all together and they are really hard on their containers. Mine were both all busted and falling apart and they never replaced them.

I had no issues with the previous service. The Billing was always fair and they didnt nickel and dime you with extra charges. WM bought the service I had previously and the issues started immediately. The prices kept creeping up, additional (almost made up) charges started showing up on different statements. They threaten to charge you extra if you dont use autopay or e-billing. Then,, this month I get a statement on my invoice that if I pay my bill I agree to the Terms of $75 if I cancel my service. (You will see in other posts they give a lame excuse for the charge). The CS was terrible, but (In their defense) its hard to defend the practices of this company. I cancelled today. This is my first rating for poor service... I would give zero stars if it was possible. I would do a HARD pass on this company.

Worst service Ive had from a sanitation service. They didnt completely empty my cans for 3 straight weeks. I emailed them about it and was told if I leave the cans out they would come pick them up. After 3 days of the cans sitting at the end of my drive, I followed up with another email. I was then told it would be an additional $45 for the pickup or I could bag the excess and just pay $5 per bag on the next scheduled visit. What BS that I have to pay for their mistakes. Found another service that was easy to contact, offered better services and cheaper (plus first month was free)!. Since I had just paid for the next period just before the end of the last month, I indicated Im fully expecting a full refund and they agreed on the phone, but Im pretty sure Im going to have to contact my credit card company to dispute the charges.

The worst customer service. We must have had a driver change as we are constantly getting up charged when not just. Contact and always get will investigate and get back to you. Nobody ever calls back. When I call back in there is no record of my previous communications. Don’t give these people access to a card. You will be constantly fighting odd charges. We will be changing providers. Nearly everyone on my block has switched providers. Now I know why!

I am disgusted with this business. I canceled my service at the end of May with my bill being paid through June. Not only was I told I will not be reimnursed for the month of June but was slapped with over $80 in cancellation fees. Do NOT use them.

They charge $40 to pick up your bins after the end of your service. Fine, I totally get it. Plan on another $30 in administrative fees and taxes and you end up paying for the cost of another billing cycle. I cant understand an $11 fuel charge for a one time stop to pick up your bins. Im so glad Im done with this company.

We have had the same service man since 2002 and he is THE BEST!!! When my kids were younger they would run out and give him hugs! Also one time my wife accidentally threw away her wallet, and later that day the service man found it in his garbage hauler and returned it to us! Waste management needs to give this guy a raise!!

Trying to cancel my service with Waste Management today. What a pain. I dont mind all the hoops to jump through as that is how large companies justify their retention process. But to charge me $75 to take the containers back?!?! Now they are trying to retain customers via force... Before this, I was willing to move back to Waste Management if I had to, but now after this, I will never even consider doing business with them again. Also, my subscription is canceled, but does that stop the automatic payment? Nope, I have to call a different number to do that, the rep could not even transfer me, I had to call. I called, and guess what, I ended back up in the same call flow... How ridiculous... Never again Waste Management.... Last note, I didnt want to offer any stars, but had to click on in order to post this...

I have worked with a lot of service providers over the years, but none have been as disrespectful or frustrating to work with as Waste Management. After being over-charged for 3 years (residential and commercial service), I have been trying to move to another company for 6 weeks. While they happily canceled the residential service (with ridiculous fees to pick up their trash can in town - $75 PLUS a $18.84 fuel charge on top?? Last I checked, fuel prices were the lowest in years and the pick up fee was to cover the fuel needed), they have been refusing to cancel the commercial service. Glad I am moving to a company that offers good service and treats their customers fairly.

Do not use! Trust me, pick a local company instead, these guys are thieves! They charge a fee for you to open an account (to drop off cans and such), then charge you a $75 fee to remove the cans. We only had the service for 2 years as we were moving, such a waste. Not sure why we have to pay them to give the cans back.

Waste Management is a big rip off. Charging customers $75.00+ to pick up the garbage cans when their services are no longer needed should not be allowed. When service was discontinued, this charge is never mentioned. Dont use this company. Go local!!!!!!

Never sign a contract with this company because you will never get out of it and it will auto renew on you and you will be stuck with them for another year and another year and so on!!! Go with a locally owned company that is locally managed. Locally managed slogan means nothing when you have to call the central office in Phoenix to fix a problem only to have them tell you your in a contract! :-(

I reside in a mobile home court and garbage is picked up on Thursdays and do not need to have picked up weekly. I have called with complaints about garbage collectors leaving can in middle of street or taking it to the other side of driveway or they just throw it on driveway and tip over they dont pick it up.I am handicapped and walk with walker and this just makes it impossible for me to pull up so I have to bother family to come do for me.My complaints/concerns are never improved/resolved.The mobile home court contracts them for garbage pickup if was up to me ,company would not be my service company.If some of the collectors get disabilities in the future perhaps they will think of the service and disrespect to their customers they provided

Customer service very rude when called because they missed my pick-up. Pretty much I have to wait for a POSSIBLE 48hr pickup with no guarantee or ask for a double pickup next week. Totally with the attitude that it was possibly something that we did wrong to cause it even though I’ve been a customer for at least 3-4yrs now and my garbage is in the EXACT same spot as always! When companies don’t own up to their own mistakes that makes me so mad. I get things get overlooked but than own up to it and make it right! Don’t start blaming your customer!!!! Pretty soon you won’t have any !

Contrary to other posters In over 5 yrs they only didnt pickup one time and my driveway was blocked. I thought they still could have gotten to it but no big deal. My complaint is the price. They charge for your lawn refuse year round but they dont pickup in the winter. You can have them take it back for the winter but they charge fee to either pick up or bring out again. Going with AOK as cheaper and dont charge in the winter when that refuse can is in my backyard buried in snow.

I’m here looking for recommendation for a better waste company ! On multiple occasions I’d go home after a long day of work to find our garbage can on the street! Nothing compared to what they did today (January 8th). I was driving home from work and when I got closer to our neighborhood I can see a big object in the street in the intersection close to the house.... yup it was our garbage can. Used Waste Management for a year and then the price went up over $100 for the next year. After looking around I found I could get more services, at a better rate that was locked in and wouldn’t change from a local company. When I called and cancelled WM begged me to stay and said they’d work with me. I told them I was going with the other company. They charged me $75 to pick up cans, $43 for fuel, and $18 in miscellaneous taxes. The final bill after I had cancelled was $113 which was about 40% of what I had already paid for the entire year of service. When we called and asked they had no answers for why the bill was so high and only could say “sorry you’re frustrated”. I really wish I would have read these reviews before I had committed to using WM, there are plenty of people who have had the same issue. I will never use them again and will gladly steer anyone who asks for a recommendation away from this company.

We had Garbage Man, the service was in the toilet, when Waste Management bought it out we were hopeful our service would improve. NOPE.The recycle truck hasnt picked up our recycling in a month. Today, the garbage truck came, picked up the garbage, the recycle truck came, stopped, didnt even get out of the truck and left.I called and canceled service, and told them they better take the last months worth of recycling with their cans.We called AOK and start new service tomorrow. :)

Not even a customer moved in to a new house the old resident had waste management and called them several times they refused to pick up their trash cans after 3 weeks I got tired of it seen their guys picking up some trash at another house and had to put my trash cans in front of there truck for them to take them so happy this is not my trash company no customer service

Why do they do the things they do? We were so happy with Heartland, but WM bought them. So inconsiderate, putting our garbage cans right in front of our garage door, so you cant drive in or out until you move them.

I had a differnt trash company before and my company sold my account or got bought out by waste management. I pay my trash bill a year in advance so I do not have to look at it or worry about it till the following year. Its been 6 months in and they havent picked up my recycle in a couple of weeks, and today I got an email saying Im past due!!! I paid for a year!!! how is this possible?? I have never written a review before for a company, but today its sad to say that after I read all these reviews I dont think I will be giving them a chance to keep my account. I will be seeking new service tmrw.

When i switched to WM, i got double total gallons for less money.with my previous provider, i had two 64 gallons garbage containers and one 96 gallons recycling container for almost $50 a month, now with Waste Management i have two 96 gallons garbage containers, and two 96 gallons recycling containers for almost $42 a month.. and a great service on top..I am very satisfied..

This company does not even deserve one star… By far the worst company I have ever had to deal with in my life! They took over for a local garbage company that we used to have that was excellent their customer service skills are terrible their representatives are uneducated. Upon moving into our new house and living there less than 24 hours we received a bill with that administrative fee for not signing up for auto pay and paperless statements that was our first encounter with the company. When I called to ask about this they were less than helpful transferring me back-and-forth from multiple departments. We moved into a new home and the previous people had a trashcan that was overflowing waste management never picked it up I called and requested multiple times that the trash be picked up so that we didn’t have to continue to pick it up from our neighbors yard, submitted several online request for an additional pick up all to no prevail the trash sat there a week and a half and still not been picked up as of today. I spoke with an escalation department who did absolutely nothing said they would call back and we never heard from them... Finally called to cancel service which was the easiest encounter I have had with the company they do not care about their consumers at all seriously avoid at all cost pay the extra five dollars a month and go elsewhere you won’t regret it!!!

They bought Garbage Man out, which I had. First bill came ans they charged me for a can I didnt have. Called to have it taken off. They said they did. Went to pay my adjusted bill a week later. Had to call again because it still wasnt taken off. Finally got it paid over the phone for the right amount. Next day my cana disappeared, as they had mistakenly taken all my cans. I call tp have them returned. They are. A couple weeks later I get an overdue notice for not paying the full amount. I have to call again. I say I am cancelling my service effective the end of the 3 month cycle I just paid for. A week later, THEY ARE TAKING MY CANS A MONTH EARLY. I went outside and stopped the guy and he said hed send a note that my cana stay until the end of march. Wow how hard is it to just get paid and take out garbage? I never had to call Garbage Man ever. Waste Management is awful.

I had waste management when I lived in Wisconsin and when I moved to South Dakota, decided I was not using them any longer because of the rudeness of customer service and trash collectors....anyway, I was with another trash service when Waste Management bought them out so ended up having them anyway for the last couple of months...so now, I am moving out of state to help take care of a family member so I called to cancel service as of 9/27/17....they picked up my trash today, took the trash containers and now are charging me $40 for removal of the containers.....DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!!! THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF EVERY CHANCE THEY GET!!!!!!!!!

There needs to be NO STAR option for this one. I strongly recommend that if possible you DO NOT use this company. The company we were using for waste removal sold our account to Waste Management. After a short time, the bill was raised considerably so I found a different vendor. Trying to leave their service was very difficult and expensive. Their customer service is terrible--basically, they dont really care if you like their service or not. There are fees they dont tell you about (e.g., dumpster pick-up fee of $150). [I know this sounds like just a grouchy person post but this is the FIRST time I have ever written a Google review complaining about a companys service (or anything else!).] #wastemanagement #wastemanagement-siouxfalls

There is trash and other things from previous tenants that lived here before us. They want to charge me to get rid of there trash thats in the recycling bin. Why should I have to pay for something I didnt do? I was told to put in in bags or the trash bin. Now why would I want to put my hand in someone elses garbage? I dont know whats in there. The trash will sit outside until it is picked up. I dont pay for nothing they need to come out and do there job.

Waste Management recently bought Garbage Man (my service). The second week in the WM driver indicated my curbside bin was not visible. I figured I had the wrong bi-week; called WM the next week when my bin was not picked up again. Found out the driver didnt see my curbside bin and lied about it. Done with Waste Management.
