Long time admirer of the program, had visited a couple of times over the course of many years, and finally decided to go all in. I enjoy classes for there physical training, but i also very much enjoy the academic side that is offered. Classes always have a physical aspect, but careful attention is paid to learn the history of the martial art, the music, language, instruments, and songs that are so much a part of Capoeira. The other students are welcoming and there is a familial aspect to the community. A Digital component is also offered via an app, that is a vast resource. If you cant physically make it to class, you can zoom in and participate from home, which provides flexibility. As a small business owner i recognize the tremendous value I am receiving, and highly recommend you give this school a try. Axe!

Came with the family during Spring Break and was able to try the class for free. Fell in love instantly! The movement, the music and the history of Capoiera. And you can tell the instructor (Mestre Advogado) is passionate about the art.Coming into the class at almost 300 lbs and at age of almost 40, I had concerns, but everyone has made me feel welcome. They are an encouraging group. I’ve been playing regularly and I feel better! I’ve lost weight and can move more than I thought I would have. I can even hold a handstand! And I’ve earned my first cord. If I can do it, anyone with dedication and consistency can do it.Please don’t let physical limitations keep you from the experience that Capoiera brings. I stated the school around 15 years ago. Being a new father I had to quit. We had talked about going back and I was happy to see that the school was still standing and strong. A testament of how much the school offers. It is not just Martial Arts. Starting again at 40 was a bit intimidating, but we fell back in line very quickly. With simple instruction and working to get just another inch more out if you moves was a great pace for us. And in 6 Months we earned our 1st cords. With learning Martial Arts, Music, Brazilian Culture, Staying Healthy, and finding a new big Family; I recommend The Brazilian Capoeira Academy to everyone.

Im thankful for the friendships Ive made and an instructor that pushes you, but not to the point where youre incapable. He understand that everyone is at different levels and he teaches at the level so that we all grow together.

I’ve trained with this academy for many years. Not only has this martial art given me strength, coordination, keeps me fit and toned.. I have made some of the most valuable friends I have ever had from being involved. My life is enriched personally as well. I can’t begin to express how grateful I am to have Nathan the instructor teaching me. He’s so patient and knows how to bring the best out of me.

Just wanted to make sure old Nathan understands that I didnt call him anything. He was bullying someone online because that person challenged his political beliefs. He threatened to beat that person up, and, as seen in his reply, thinks threatening to beat someone up is the way to respond to name calling (which he also engaged in). People know a bully when they see one -- I encourage prospective and current students to take a look at how this person conducts himself online and see if that is the sort of behavior they want to teach their children.

My kids have been training for 13 years. i firmly believe that their leadership skills at school and in their extracurricular activities stem from the confidence and strength Capoeira has fueled. Capoeira helped him focus. For my daughter, it gave her an advantage in social settings where she has self respect as a young lady and comfortable and confident around young men. And they both have rhythm and know just enough Portuguese to survive as tourists. Strongly recommend for fitness and leadership for all ages. I love this class. It’s challenging, fun, and educational. It not only teaches you the martial art form but it teaches you Portuguese the language. As an African /black American it’s the closest thing to our history here, and gives me a since of pride. I love learning new things everyday.

The head instructor Nathan Sparrow likes to threaten people on facebook. Might want to spend your money elsewhere, were children are taught self control and self defense by someone who isnt a bully.

I have been training for the last nine months and could not be happier with my results! Not only have I toned those opportunity areas, but my clothes are fitting better and I feel stronger. CapuraGinga is like an extended family, a great sport system, and they help keep me motivated. I love the class, the people and my results!

I should have read the reviews.I believed that this was a family too but now I realize all Nate cares about is money. Everything is fine until you want to quit. I didn’t necessarily want to quit but I started a job that had me working night shifts and couldn’t make the classes anymore. When I still paid monthly until August (contract should have ended in July), and I reached out to Nate noticing I was still charged for August. He didn’t reply to me but he gave me my money back. Now September not only do I notice he charged me again but I guess he canceled his reimbursement to me in August and he isn’t replying to my texts. He’s a crook. After seeing all the other negative (true) reviews that weren’t made by people who are still in the program , I’m assuming I will end up in court with this.

Awesome place and good workout. Nathan is very good with teaching skill and helping with learning new techniques. This place is really recommend for good work out.

Update:Nathan(owner), called me back and reimbursement is in process. Im sorry my kid will not be able to continue this enrichment class, since hes no longer at The Pineapple school. He really enjoyed the physical and musical aspects of the class. If your kids attending this school, I recommend the Capoeira add-on class!

Great staff I wish I could get in to practice more but my experience was outstanding

When my friend @watch_what_i_can_do called me and said: “I have a challenge for you, and I think you’re going to like it,” I knew I was going on for a treat. Six and a half weeks later, I stood nearly 20 lbs leaner, and 7% less fat in my body. Mind you, I wasn’t looking for a diet, let alone a challenge where I had to put my energy where my mind was. And without a doubt, my intention was clear enough that the challenge came to me. Through the early morning work outs, in which I battled two injuries, a cold, and tons of temptation (it was, after all over the 4thof July weekend AND my birthday) to accomplish my goal. Thanks to @sanantoniocapoeira, I’m healthier, more confident, way stronger and a heck of a lot more flexible. I highly recommend this challenge to anyone committed enough to see what their minds and their bodies can truly do. Oh, and I also have to mention the countless amount of fun cooking and eating with those and going through the same journey. They make it all worth it.

My daughter has been a student of this Academy for almost 3 years and every session is always a joy. She has become more confident not only about her physical abilities, but internally because Capoeira promotes a sense of community. Professor Advogado is a wonderful mentor who goes beyond teaching the movement or the sequence, but caring about each student and his or her pace. You will love it!

I have been training here now for 1 year. Our Mestrando as is his in Capoeira is very approachable and works with you to really help you grow. The classes themselves are really well structured so that each class you get a really great workout and also improve as a capoeirista. The other students are just as friendly and as I attended and continue to attend classes I really find this group is a lot more than just a martial art I go to during the week. I have and you will become part of the family. We each support each other and also are friends outside of class now. This school has GREATLY enriched my life and I HIGHLY suggest this school to anyone and everyone. Capoeira is an amazing style and this school has it down pat

Fantastic gym! The instructors are knowledgable and the community is very welcoming. You can tell the owners care so much about you. If you want to get in shape and lose weight this is the place for you!

Awesome place! The trainers are great and super beginner friendly. Was a little intimidated at first but now Im so happy I did it.

My 6 year old has been a student here since October 2014. I have been amazed at how far he has come along. His gross motor skills have improved drastically and he loves working toward new goals every month. Nathan is a great instructor who requires students to be disciplined but is also playful and great with kids.

I actually got to chat with nathan on more than one occasion - his passion is evident and everyone at the academy takes their jobs seriously, which is great because it results in super support in every aspect! ive really enjoyed not only the sessions, but the warm and welcoming community as well. ive never really felt at place at those big gyms, it always seemed lonely and was always demotivating to me. but here - the time goes by so quickly and i actually look forward to coming!

This location refused to let us know when the next belt ceremonies were or failed to invite us to them despite reiterated that our child was doing well in the class. When we tried to cancel the class (cause it just wasn’t right for our child), the company continued to charge our credit card despite multiple emails, text messages, and phone calls to cancel the automated charges. Buyer beware when signing up for classes from this business

This class rocks, Ive been attending off and on for about 7 years and love the people and environment. Its very family oriented, Mestre Advogado is wonderful and taught me at my own pace. Although some of the moves were difficult, the teacher and the people in higher chords were always helpful and made sure I got the moves right. I love this class!

I do have to say the peoples are friendly. Extremely friendly. But...I should have known something was wrong as soon as I came in and found out that the only way you could train is if you sign a year contract. Paying almost $200 a month for what? The teacher himself almost never teaches. I could tell its hard for him, he is a bit out of shape. His students teach, which are on a good level, but only for beginners and advanced cords. I could tell a lot of those students got the belts(cords) not because of how good they are, but because of how long they trained. Which is fine, but sometimes it is almost ridiculous.After all, its always the same moves they are working on, over and over again.I am used to be in the best schools of capoeira. I did capoeira for over 10 years. And this school was all about the money. Not the love for capoeira.Oh. And no military discount.UPDATE : Do not go to this place. I am a single mom in the military, had to go through trainings, got robbed at some point and had a lot of problems money wise. I explained all of this to Nathan, the owner and thought he would understand that I can not continue with his service anymore. My priority at this point was to make sure I can at least pay my childs care and other bills I fell behind on due to circumstance. This man made a point that he doesnt care, and even though I have not been there for the past half a year he STILL charged me and now collections are coming after me. This man is not a good man.

Best place to learn capoiera. You get to learn everything, from the art that is capoeira to the music used and even Portuguese. This group is a family. No matter who you are, you are always welcome and accepted. Ive never met anyone as accepting as these people. You always find support when you need it.

So often, people talk about things that make them happy as things that changed my life, but then continue on living their (still unchanged) life. This is a review about something that actually HAS changed my life: Capoeira and where I practice it.We were looking for something active for our youngest daughter to do, and she stated that she wanted to try a martial art. We went to a Taekwondo school and I hated it (too money-hungry and militaristic), went to a Shaolin-do school and she hated it (she was bored by it), and then I suggested the Capoeira studio that I passed by every day on my way to work.We got there for a free trial class, and Nathan Sparrow (or Professor Advogado, as he is named in the capoeira tradition) convinced my other daughter to try it, too. At the end of the class, my oldest daughter was hooked, but my youngest one still couldnt decide. I asked Nathan if I could try it with her, and he agreed. After a class of all three of us being out there, we signed up and havent looked back since.Im 45 years old, overweight, and before now, I wasnt too fond of exercise, to put it mildly. Now though, I can hardly wait to get out there and do what is easily the hardest physical work Ive ever done in my life. Through diet and capoeira, Ive lost 40 pounds, and Im as healthy as Ive been in the last 15 years.The culture and art of capoeira is a great reason to keep coming, but the people here are the largely unknown attraction of this school. Nathan is a fantastic teacher, and makes very clear up front that you will not always look as pretty as you want to, but you will one day get there through determination and hard work.Sure, you would expect the head instructor to be supportive, but everyone else is, too. The graduados (highly advanced students who have attained a high status) are incredibly helpful and make themselves available for any question you may have (and you will have MANY). Moreover, everyone there is an exceedingly kind and generous person. Yes, its a school, but its more like a family here. We do things together outside of the studio, we joke, we laugh, and we love each other.As I said, Im not one who would usually do something as physically challenging as capoeira, but here I am, proud and hungry for more. Come and see what these people can do with themselves and you. You will be looking into your own future.
