I’m a returning client with my cherished dog. When your pet is sick or injured, emotions run high and one becomes sick with worry. In my experience, this practice is apt at providing compassionate customer service and prompt care.Reception staff are friendly and communicate very well. Vet techs are indeed also friendly, compassionate and gentle when handling your pet. The many different doctors that I have interfaced with are patient and not pushy when discussing treatment. These departments work well together to give you whatever amount of peace of mind when you find yourself bringing your pet in for emergency services.

This hospital was so helpful when I brought my dog in this morning! They were kind, compassionate and very caring when it came to figuring out what was wrong. I really appreciate Sarah who’s a vet tech for lending her expertise when we needed it most. Will definitely be coming back here, I’m so grateful

Dr. Vasanjee and the staff here have been nothing but kind and communicative, and took time away from their families to care for mine. Pet emergencies are STRESSFUL, and they did their best to heal my pup, ensure all my questions were answered, and got back to me even when it got busy at the clinic. Theyre still doing COVID protocols (curbside, phone communication), so make sure your phone is charged and come in a vehicle if youre able. I suggest bringing an umbrella if youre showing up in the middle of the day for shade outside, so the staff can find you if they need to and you dont have to be super far away under a tree.

I have been here three times due to a unfortunate accident with my puppy Pebbles. Every time I dropped Pebbles off and picked her up, the staff made it very easy. They also communicated with a different veterinary to cases previous X-rays of the injury. Before, during, and after the surgery, communication was excellent. I got calls before and after the surgery and two more during the recovery process. All prescription instructions were straightforward and easy to understand. If you have any questions, they will always answer your call or get back to you. Hailey personally took care of me and made everything easy.Across the board, everything is excellent. Although I never want to be back, I will most definitely use Heart of Texas Veterinary Specialty Center if I need a Veterinary.

My Tank was coughing blood and seemed to have trouble breathing Our regular sent us the HTVS as they werent able to see him immediately. The staff was incredible. They got him back immediately, ran tests and while the results were a pet parents worst nightmare - lung cancer - the doctor was honest and very forthcoming. They put him the oxygen tank and scheduled a visit with an oncologist for the following Wednesday. I was able to pick him up Monday and we started chemo. I went back Monday night as a panicked helicopter dog mom and the vet tech came to the car and reassured me that his reaction to the medication was normal. Unfortunately Tank took a turn for the worse on Wednesday and we had to say goodbye to our sweet boy. The cancer was too aggressive, he wasnt able to breathe and wouldnt be able to do so long enough for the chemo to be effective. The staff was incredibly caring and compassionate as we said our final goodbyes. They allowed us to stay with him as long as we needed before and after. I cant express how appreciative I am to their entire staff.

This place is terrible, first they waited 7-8 hours before they gave my dog antivenom because I had not paid for the bill, but they never told me this fact Leading to the 7-8 hour delay even though they knew it had been a whole day since he had been bitten by a rattlesnake. Leading to my dogs swollen skin to die and fall off, and then after they wrapped his opened wound, either because the wrap moved or his skin did a part of his open wound was not covered. I called them to ask them if I could wrap it and all they said was they couldnt give medical advice and I would have to bring my dog even though the next open time was in 8 hours. So I called the next emergency vet over and they pretty quickly told me I could wrap it with a period pad and gauze. This place is terrible.

This place seems to care more about making money than actually providing care. They lock their doors, so you cant even enter the building. They make you pay $129.00 up front before an evaluation because they are concerned you wont return to pick up your pet afterwards. That is verbatim the reasoning the receptionist gave me. You have to sit in your car and give them your information then wait some more wondering what is going on. Every time you call for an update the receptionist will say, Just one minute and 20 minutes later you will still be waiting on the phone trying to get information. I was told my cat, Titus, would get a dose of pain medication when the tech took him from me, and 3 hours later he had received no medication and had not even seen the doctor despite having an acute neurologic change and suddenly could not use his hind legs. Then, I was told by the doctor that my cat would be ready to pick up in 15-30 minutes. I waited over an hour for him to be released to my care because they had sent me a text message with my bill and insisted I pay the bill from my phone before they would release him. But, they never told me this was why I was waiting for so long. It would be more respectful to let someone go inside to pay their bill if that is the requirement instead of sitting in my car in the dark distressed because my cat was still ill and they could do nothing for him. The doctors were slow to see him but cared way more about my pet than the other staff. Very poor communication, poor customer service overall, and I would never take any pet here to be seen. They only care about money. Also, make sure you get an itemized bill because they double billed me for 5 tests, which was over $500 in overcharges. They dont automatically provide an itemized statement, you have to ask for it.

I only had good experiences here. After my cat was rushing to the litter box every 10 minutes without seeming to go, I started to panic. I know male cats are more prone to urinary issues than female cats, but any pet parent will know that no matter how unlikely an issue may be, the fact that its still technically possible is scary enough to handle it. Her first time there, despite being full, the tech took her in right away to start blood work, which eased my mind that Id be sitting in the parking lot with her miserable until they could get her in. It took a few hours to get her discharged, but I didnt mind- as long as she was being taken care of, I couldnt care less how long I was sitting around. They did some vitals but told me they couldnt pull urine because there wasnt any in her bladder- which was enough to ease my mind a little, at least she wasnt struggling with emptying a full bladder. They gave me multiple options for her care and were honest with me about the difference in cost and how well each option would work, telling me the more expensive option would be less likely to work, which I appreciated. When a few more days passed and I thought she hadnt used the box, I took her back at midnight, knowing I wouldnt be able to sleep while so stressed about her health. Again, they took her in right away but told me it could be several hours until she was thoroughly seen. Again, I couldnt have cared less- Id be willing to wait in the parking lot all night if it meant she was being taken care of. Using info the vet the first time had told me, I requested as many tests as they could reasonably do to make sure she was well, which they agreed to, as well as x-rays. Still awaiting those results, as they have to be sent to a lab during the week and I went at midnight on a Saturday night, but the vet helped ease my fears until then with some preliminary tests and checking her urine. All in all, I had two very reassuring trips, both late at night into the early morning, and appreciate that this hospital is open and accepts patients even when theyre at capacity, and that the techs and vets all took the time to answer my questions.

I have taken two of my cats to Heart of Texas and each time they provided excellent service and took great care of both cats. The vet took the time to thoroughly explain the issues and a plan for treatment. They also communicated with my regular vet so they were in the loop as well.People who complain about the wait have forgotten that this is an EMERGENCY vet. You WILL have to wait just like you would at an ER Hospital. But the staff makes every effort to minimize the wait as best they can, and they work tirelessly to provide quality care for our pets.If the prices seem high, it’s because they are open 24 hours for those times when we have pet emergencies after normal vet hours.I highly recommend Heart of Texas and I will definitely go back to them!

Let me start by saying I’ve read some of the reviews and I was nervous bringing my dog here. It was an emergency situation that my normal vet was not equipped to handle. Our 17 year old dachshund was really sick, vomiting, diarrhea, lethargic and dehydrated. Our normal vet had us transport our dog to Heart of Texas. Thank God they did! Dr Mays recommended an ultrasound which found an aggressive cancer in both adrenal glands and his kidneys. Our normal vet missed this completely even after doing a full blood panel. We were quoted what they recommended for treatment which of course we approved and paid right away! The next night when we picked up our dog to basically spend some time with him we were told that his treatment was less than they thought and refunded $800 to us. We wouldn’t have know either way so to me honesty and integrity is something they think highly of. Max was the vet tech that came out to get Rocco when we first arrived and he was kissing him and talking to him the same way we do, in a loving comforting way. I can’t thank these amazing people enough for caring for our baby when we couldn’t. Even when we called to check on Rocco at 10 pm Sam was so sweet and gave us a detailed update on him. I absolutely recommend them 100%! Loving and professional!

I wish we would have gone there first. An early diagnosis instead of days of our poor baby suffering would have saved the whole family so much pain. Thank you TVSC, for your wonderful patient care and showing compassion and expertise at one of the hardest times our family will ever have to go through. If i could put 0 stars i would. Brought my baby here in emergency. He was really weak he was dehydrated. Still they got him worst they took out blood from him and inserted glucose on him. When he only needed serum or something else to get him better not worst! They said he needed surgery and the estimate was $5,000 dollars. Visit was $500 and they did nothing i had to take him because i didnt qualify to pay in payments because i didnt had the $5,000 dollars. Still when i decided on taking him home because they was no way they could help they said he was already having seizures and they wanted to insert an injection so that he can passed away. That happend when i decided on taking him home. It was me and my husband and they only accepted one person for the injection that wasnt fear. So i was like no give it to me i will take him home we want to be with him. I didnt trusted them. So i got my baby rocky and he was worst than when i brought him. They took a time to return him. When they gave them to me he was really pale from his stomach and tongue. And when i brought him to supposedly emergency that is not , his skin was in good color he was only weak. On the way home he started to had seizures until he passed away it was so sad that i couldnt help him and they got him worst instead of helping. But the weird thing they wanted plasma so i think they took out alot of blood from him that he got worst, Since i couldnt pay the $5,000 dollars they killed him. Rocky was only 4 yrs old. Im so dissapointed at this vet. Its not emergency because you still have to call to check in when you get there and if you dont have $5,000 dollars they are not getting your puppy better. Instead they will make him suffer. They think they are simple pets and they think they dont feel. They dont care about their health they only think on the money each dog can make to them .Rocky was like a kid for us our first baby. I wish they where any good vets on this areas that will care about your baby dog and that will leave the money a side or at least help and give more options on payments but first take care of their health then talk about payment. Here this vet they talked ablout payments first they cared more about the money than his health. Also they dont talk to you in person they never show their faces. Everything tru phone. Really bad experience that i will never forget. I hope these doctors become aware one day and have compassion on these beautiful souls that only make us happy.

THE WORST PLACE YOU CAN BRING YOU PET TO! Don’t spend your time and money going there!First you’ll need to talk to them by phone standing just in front of the clinic. Then their unprofessional stuff will make you wait couple of hours - “emergency room”. After few hours of waiting they will take you 130$ for exam and tell that they can’t do anything. Next step you’ll search for another clinic.Does it worth it? That’s up to you.

My dog became ill quickly and with in a week got wobbly on his feet. At that, we brought him into this place. Long story short, they said he had terminal cancer and they were asking for a large sum of money to euthanize him. We work but didn’t have that kind of money but there was no care by them. They refused to euthanize till we got it. So I had to sit on the phone and endlessly call places (some they referred) to get a loan to put my dog down. After spending tons of time and finally getting a lesser amount from what they asked for, they kindly agreed to euthanize my dog. No one should “Literally” have to fight and bargain for the lesser amount (which was still a lot) when losing a pet. My dogs health and everyone’s well being was not priority very obviously. So then finally, because of covid only one person was allowed in. We all were not allowed to say good bye to him. Seriously, an establishment were money was the big focus over any humanity. Awful experience in every way. Sometimes I question if they even diagnosed him correctly because not one X-ray or lab result was shown (nothing medically was show ) and I was too emotionally wrecked to think logically. The fight over the money they wanted made it the total focus.

My 11 year old stock dog was kicked in the head. After stabilizing her I got her to the Vet ER. She had been there years before for a rattler bite to the face. Given the Covid stuff, the tech met me at the door to take Reese back. They still had her records from 5 years before. Though they offered expensive testing, the team worked with me for what testing was mandatory and what was precautionary. This excellent communication kept the cost low ( for an emergency Vet). The wait was long but several pups came in in worse shape so that’s okay. We got Reese home with a few stitches and a headache but she was back in the pens a week later doing what she loves to do ( herd the livestock). A big shout out to the techs and docs and the smooth administrative side.I do understand folks get upset about cost but bare in mind, this is a high quality emergency care service. I put this team on par with the A&M Bovine division at College Station ( I spend a lot of time there).

Last night my sweet girl had a very bad day but Heart of Texas made it much better. She had an accident late in the evening on a Friday night which means of course all vets were closed, but not Heart Of Texas. We arrived and they did our triage over the phone while in the comfort of our car. They were so tender and careful with my tiny girl and the staff were all very willing to answer all my questions. They took their time and were very thorough. I am so thankful to them for being there for our scary moment and helping it be a little less scary. Its a wonderful place if you find yourself in need of vet care after hours, they will treat your pet like their own. ❤

My dog needed help so I explained the scenario to the front desk person who answered the phone. She said shes not at Liberty to give any medical advice. She just kept telling me that every time I explained something. Let me make this clear, I wasnt asking her for medical advice I was explaining my situation and wondering what my next step would be for her to help me. For this business to show some compassion and tell me the next step to take. I was trying to schedule an appointment, or see if they have anything to offer to help me in this time. Basically I was describing what was happening with my dog and if they could help. All I needed to know was that it was in a medical emergency hospital and it worked like a regular medical emergency hospital for adults. But she didnt tell me that until the end of the phone call after I explained to her that she was being extremely rude and not helpful. This is Sunday morning at 8:40 a.m. maybe you can check your schedule and have a talking to with her. Because she made me feel so unwelcome and like you are a business of incompetency. So I will never be coming here. Ever.

I can’t speak highly enough of this ER vet. I was able to bring my dog in to be evaluated for kennel cough when every other ERV was booked up. They took her right in to be triaged and I was able to go wait at home instead of sitting in my car in hot TX sun. They were quoting 4-6 hour waits but in just under two hours, she had been examined and prescribed meds to keep her comfortable. The staff and vets were so friendly and comforting during a very stressful time and explained her follow up care perfectly. I really appreciate that they talk you through the aftercare instructions, give you a print out and email you a copy as well.

Although the staff were very nice and as helpful as they could be , I would not take my cat back here. My cat had to have an operation here and stayed for a few days. I had to take him back about 2 weeks later for an emergency visit. I called before I came in and the guy at the front desk told me that I could “swing by really quick and a tech will be able to tell “in like 15 seconds” weather my cat has a blockage or not and that I wouldn’t have to pay if we didn’t admit him. When I arrived, about 40 minutes later came out to get my cat, I thought all they were doing was checking for a blockage like the guy said but after over an hour of waiting, they called and said that my cat was “still waiting to see the doctor”. They also explained That there was only one doctor on staff that night and that they had no timeframe to give me as to when my cat would be seen. I then had to wait SEVEN HOURS in their parking lot for someone to get to my cat (yes 7 hours, I arrived at 6:09 pm and was there until about 1am.) about five hours into my weight someone was finally able to call me about my cat to let me know that they would like to run and I quote “a test that cost $70”. I agreed to this and at this point I was also under an assumption that I would probably get charged a visit fee although this was not communicated to me either. Finally almost at the seventh hour they called me back to let me know that the test came back negative but they were sending it out to the lab to double check and told me they would give me some pain meds to take home. At this point they had also let me know that they were done treating my cat and would bring him out to me as soon as they could and that I just needed to sign the “estimate” first. AFTER We ended the call I received the bill and there was a second test that cost 223 dollars that I was not even aware that they were running. My total bill came out to almost $500. I am still not entirely sure what the purpose of running both of these tests were and why it was not communicated to me. The doctor had also let me know to give them a call on Saturday afternoon (it was currently a Wednesday) to get the results if I don’t hear from them. I called back on Sunday and they told me the results were still not done. I called back again on Wednesday a week later from my initial visit and although the lady at the desk was very helpful she was not able to access my pets test results and told me she would have a doctor call me back which I do not feel confident will happen. Although I am very thankful for the staff here when my pet had to have his PU surgery for being so kind and helping my cat but I just wouldn’t trust coming back here due to the overall lack of staffing and organization- it just makes me very uneasy of the potential mix ups that could happen.

I took my two Australian Shepherd there for emergency visit but I don’t think I will go back there again. The overall experience was okay but I don’t understand how this place operated. A vet put both my dogs on the same medication but for some reason they only gave me a prescription for one dog. Before i checked out with my dogs I checked with the assistants multiple times that if the prescription is in the bag. She said everything is in the bag but turned out they didn’t put the prescription in the bag, they gave me a coupon of that medication instead. Fine, everyone makes mistakes. I understand it’s always busy at emergency hospital. So when I was at CVS and called them about this, the front desk lady did not believe me and told me many times what they gave me was the correct prescription. I told them the CVS people told me this is a COUPON, not a prescription. She then asked me to send a photo proof of what I had. So I did. She did not call back and I had to call her after 15 minutes. She picked up the phone and said “oh you sent it? Let me check.” She checked the photo and admitted that it is a coupon and emailed me the prescription. The prescription itself is also very confusing. Why did you only give me one prescription for one dog when both of them have to take it? The jar is very small and for two medium side dogs I need at least 10 jars to give it to them for 30 days like the discharge said. For some reason the vet only gave me one refill and my dogs were out of medication after 6 days. We called them and asked for more refill, they said they will contact the vet but so far I received nothing.Luckily I have taken my dogs somewhere else for their medication refill and follow up checks up.

Where to begin...lets start off with the easy statement that they are simply the best specialty vet in town, if not in all of Texas. Truly...they are known for having the top surgeons and oncology team. I first went to them when my 4-year-old pitty had been diagnosed with lymphoma cancer. We came here once a week, for 10 months straight. These appointments were never easy for me, but the whole staff made the whole process very comforting. We had the pleasure of seeing Dr. Dehart. We tried 3 different chemos before he passed. They all showed him so much love during his time here. 2 years later, I got another pitty puppy. Just before he turned 2, he had an accident that had us back here in the ER. He had 2 large tears on his bladder, that could have been fatal. Dr. Vasanjee had to perform emergency surgery the next day. Once again, he and his team really took care of us. Hailey Ponce De Leon was a huge help as well! She was always giving constant, thorough updates to me. The surgery went best-case scenario, and he was fully recovered back to normal after 4 weeks. Hopefully, he does not get into any more trouble anytime soon. But if he does, there is nowhere else I would take him.

If I could give them more stars I would. We originally visited Heart of Texas in April 2019 as a referral to their Oncology Department after our dog had Cancer in his Spleen. We consulted with the oncologist and both agreed on a course of action and moved on. Fast forward to September 2020 and our dog now has a plasma cell tumor in his mouth and we were referred to another vet specialty hospital in Austin by our vet. After an error and a mix up with scheduling at the other hospital on top of our dog who had been fasting all morning we were stuck in other hospitals parking lot trying to figure out what to do. I frantically called Heart of Texas to see if they could see us even though we didnt have a referral from our vet. Because we were previous patients they were able to fit us in that morning with the Oncology Department to get a consult with Dr. Sheppard. They got our dog Brodys consult done that morning and were able to move forward with the CT scan we were supposed to be having at the other Vet Hospital that day. They took great care of him that day, got us results back in 24 hours and got him scheduled for another needed procedure within days. I cant stress how amazing they have been with helping us through this. I was an emotional mess the day I called and they took care of us and eased my stress and anxiety. Thank you so much for all your help when we really needed it. I highly recommend and will not hesitate to go back and I live in downtown Austin and drive to their location in Round Rock.

Place was absolutely horrible I will never take my dog back. He’s a Maltese was having issues with diabetes which skyrocketed out of nowhere. He was at their hospital for a good hour before anyone their gave him any insulin and that was only because (as they made me wait outside) I called them and asked how they were lowering his blood sugar. They stated they didn’t have the insulin he is on and I told them I had it with me in the car. No one called asking if I had it he was just sitting there not having any treatment done. The night vet name Dr. Burns and the night staff was horrible. Such a major lack of communication. The vet told me that she wasn’t going to give him any fast acting insulin because I had his insulin with him. I said okay so what’s the game plan and she said he good to good I just gave him his shot. Of course I was upset as his blood sugar was 705 and is supposed to be between 80-120. So then why did I bring him? This is happened before so I knew what was supposed to happened on their end. She went round and round with me. Hesitantly, I let him stay over night so they could monitor his blood sugar leveled. I am new to this area and wasn’t sure where else to take him. I had to call numerous times throughout the night and the staff answering the phone was very rude and short with me. I understand that working at an animal ER can be stressful however the new vet that came in later that night Dr. Higginbotham was absolutely amazing! She took her time and explained everything to me. She went above and beyond any staff member there. I initially agreed to transition ziggi to their day vet for further treatment but once I realized how bad everything was going I quickly rescinded that. If I would have been working with her from the beginning I think thinks would have been different. Overall, she appeared to care more than the others by asking more questions and explaining things in great detail.Overall, I’m saddened by the experience and would just never recommend anyone to take their pets here.

My pup, Koa, had a not very common surgery (SDF Luxation repair) and Dr. Bascunan was the best. We had a consultation one day and surgery the next day. The recovery plan included weekly bandage changes for 7 weeks and Dr. Bascunan and Chase on the surgery team made this recovery a lot more bearable. Despite never being able to see Dr. Bascunan in person due to COVID protocols, she always answered all of my questions and addressed my concerns while never rushing me off the phone (and this place is busy with furry kids). Koa was also very excited to see the staff every week, so thats always a reassuring sign. I am very grateful to the surgery team and Dr. Bascunan for getting Koa and I through this ruff time. Here is a pic of Koa after his final appointment for his bandage removal.

This place is a joke!!! They kept my pet locked in a cage 4 hours when they knew she was dehydrated. The so-called doctor didn’t even give me a correct diagnosis. $160 down the drain for nothing. This place just wants money and to perform surgeries when none are needed. AVOID IT.My dog was referred here to internal medicine for an auto immune disorder affecting her hock joints. We were referred specifically to Dr. Jennifer Sinese. Without even seeing us, she transferred us to surgery and notified by phone call the day before the appointment, without explanation. My vet had directly sent all medical records and noted that there was no indication surgery was needed.I thought this was fishy so I looked up reviews and ended up going to Pflugerville Animal Hospital. They did X Rays, theres no joint damage, and nothing to do surgery on. The vet there was completely BAFFLED why we were being sent to surgery since the condition my dog had can be managed and suppressed with medication. They actually explained everything going on, gave estimates, didnt push unnecessary treatment (they also do surgery), didnt do anything to my dog without my explicit permission. A vet tech was with her when the vet wasnt. They were all extremely knowledgeable about the condition and physically showed me the hip and leg xrays (175 for all of them) and explained everything they were looking at and looking for. Honestly my dog (gsd) has never recieved better care. The follow up appointment to see how shes doing in her meds is also free. She has 0 joint damage, no hip dysplasia, and swelling in her back hock joints. The most effective and common treatment is a steroid in conjunction with a few other meds (anti biotic and something else Ive forgotten right now) according to the pflugerville vet. Theyre also the official vet and surgery location for the german shepherd rescue in the area. Not heart of Texas.Heart of texas has no idea what its doing and only wants to make money. Ive cancelled and refused to make an appointment with them, but theyve called a few times and ita 9pm on a sunday night. They literally just want money at this point. Ive explained we went to another vet since we didnt appreciate their methods, they wont stop calling.Dont take your fur babies here.Im not interested in excuses your customer service tech center comes up with heart of texas.

Our dog was attacked by our neighbors dog tonight. We took him the the 24/7 emergency clinic in Round Rock. They were very detailed with all the wounds they found and took good care of him. The only thing that dropped our 5 star review was the timing. We dropped him off at 6:15ish. They call at 7:20 to tell us it would be an hour or so before our next update. We called them at 9:19 to ask for an update and we’re told to wait at home (we live in hutto and we’re trying to prevent the back & forth) and it would be another 30 min to an hour! We finally got called at 10:30 to come get him. We will come back if needed because they are reasonably priced and took great care of our dog. Just expect for them to be there awhile!

Terrible wait time, service and cost. Will not take any of my pets there again. We were the first ones there in the am and waited several hours just to have him go in. Could clearly see employees thru window drinking coffee and gabbing while doing nothing. Then waited another hour before they looked at him. Cost was 3X higher for overnight and IV care than other emergency room. Surgery cost was quoted 5 to 6 thousand dollars plus 1,600 dollars for overnight stay with IV. My vet did surgery next day for 1,500 dollars and overnight,IV and meds at other emergency vet was 650 dollars and that was with excellent car. Total ended up waiting 6 hours in car.

I was told by the front desk that they could not give me the prices, that they would have to tell my vet and have them relay information. I just asked for standard information for IV fluids, and antibiotics. I know that with tests and everything else, it can add up. My vet called me not too long after and told me it would be 3 to $5,000. I asked her if that included the other testing that she was wanting to have done, and she said no that was just going to be for the antibiotics and IV fluids. I was able to call around to other local emergency rooms and find out that IV fluids alone range in the *hundreds* of dollars per day. NOT thousands. This obviously can go up to 3 to $5,000 very quickly if you add on other testing, procedures etc,. But the IV fluids and antibiotics alone for one or two nights would have only been about $500, maybe a thousand max for one night. I figure ...if the front desk couldnt help me out with this basic information for an emergency, I wasnt sure what Id be charged for and how their communication would go if I admitted her. Much less care coordination for decisions. Per reviews, billing here is above anything normal and reasonable. Decided to go elsewhere. I am definitely willing to pay good money for care of my dog, just wanting to take her to a animal focused place vs. money hungry/uninformed/poor communication 1-stop shop. This place feels like a sham.***Edit for other common words from review feelings eerily similar to my experience. My dog ate a piece of a rope toy and had to have emergency surgery to have the obstruction removed. They quoted me $6000 if it was a non complicated surgery, and $12000 if there was any complications. I called my hometown vet and told him what happened. He told me to “DO NOT GO THERE!” “That is highway robbery and they should be ashamed!” My vet Dr. Michael A. Doherty at Creek View Veterinary Clinic in New Braunfels, Tx did the surgery the next day. He actually cares about animals instead of trying to make money off hurting people. It was an extremely complicated surgery. My dogs intestines had fused together in a giant knot. Dr. Doherty had to cut them apart one-by-one and put them back into the correct place. HE ONLY CHARGED ME $1300 FOR THE ENTIRE THING!! We were extremely disappointed in the unprofessional conduct of Heart of Texas Vets, and we write this review because we dont want other pets and their owners to have the similar experience. In June, they have sent back our pet right before the surgery two days in a row due to malfunctioning equipment. We asked to be connected with the manager to notify her about this, to which she responded that the new machine had come in late afternoon on Monday and no one was around to check it until the morning of the surgery. She also said that the company that ships the equipment hadnt told them that it had to be charged for eight hours before being able to use it. We feel that this is something that the provider or the hospital staff should have checked prior to ordering the new equipment. Hearing this gave us the impression that the staff and providers hadnt taken the responsibility for properly preparing for the surgery. Though were not 100% knowledgeable of the clinics workflow at all times, our understanding is that, since Heart of Texas is also an emergency center that is open 24/7, there would have been staff to check the machine at some point between the time it had arrived at the hospital and the morning of the surgery. Also, as we were preparing to transition to a different clinic, we found out after comparing estimates with other clinics and other pet owners that the procedures we would have had at Heart of Texas were much more expensive. We appreciate Heart of Texas Vets for suggesting an alternative to ship out the blood sample ot be analyzed in an external lab, and for giving us referrals to alternative specialty centers and reimbursing our deposit when we told them wed find a different place for this surgery. We also understand that the providers and staff had no intentions to harm our pet. Nonetheless, this doesnt change the fact that our dog was in pain and discomfort from having already injected catheters and IV needles in her a few hours prior to the surgery only to have her return home without this surgery after all. Not only that, this situation has wasted the time of our family members and have caused us frustration, anxiety, and emotional burden that we could definitely all do without. With the pandemic and the imminent need for social distancing, we respect the inevitability of being unable to see and converse with the providers and staff in person. However, in light of the circumstances that prevent us from establishing trust face-to-face, we believe Heart of Texas Vets should have done an even better job of reassuring that our pet would receive safe and responsible care with little roadblocks on the Hospitals part that hinders the procedures.

Overpriced, terrible communicators, rude, and incompetent. I have had three terrible experiences at this place. Most recently with my senior Maltese, Dallas. I lack the emotional energy to share the entire experience in detail so, long story short, Dallas ended up getting transferred from Heart of Texas to Central Texas Specialty due to Heart of Texas not having blood that my dog needed for a transfusion. After spending the night at CTS my dogs vet gave us bad news that we should think about putting him down. My husband and I took some time to discuss and made the hard decision to move on with the euthanasia. Since I was too emotional to talk I had my husband call the vet to let them know. He accidentally called Heart of Texas and the gentleman we spoke to completely went along with it as if Dallas was there, told us his doctor was too busy to speak with us and that he’d prepare Dallas so that when we get there we can spend time with him. We showed up to CTS and they were caught off guard because it wasn’t them that we called. That’s when we realized My husband was on the phone with Heart of Texas. I can’t tell you how many terrible experiences we’ve had with Heart of Texas and I cannot recommend them to anyone. I wish I could give NEGATIVE 5 stars. They don’t care about your pet. Very upset with our experience with this emergency clinic. We had no issues with our experience until after our pet had to get put down. Only one family member was allowed in the room, and while understandable with COVID-19, you would think they would allow at least two members of the family to say our goodbyes, especially when coming from the same household. Doing the cremation with them was ok up until picking up the ashes. It is already emotional and upsetting to pick up ashes BUT THEY GAVE US THE WRONG PET ASHES! This is not something you can make an honest mistake about!! My sister was very upset in the car ride home, ultimately to find out that we had another families pet! I paid $160 for my dog to suffer in a cage for 3 hours and for myself to be shamed. Dont take your senior dogs here to consider your end-of-life options. I took her to the vet on Saturday and discovered she is going downhill rather quickly due to undiagnosed diabetes and possible pancreas disease. But - shes actually still very alert, to the point she gave me that look when I was coaxing her to follow me to the car today (Monday)- she knew she was going back to the vet. Note I said - follow me, not carry her.My vet was willing to start her on an IV and see if we could get her eating this morning (a Monday) so we could get her on insulin, but him being a day clinic and not really equipped for that much attention to give, he recommended Heart of Texas. I knew there would be a wait, but heres how it went. They took my dog from me at 8:30 as I waited in the parking lot (covid). They told me $110 fee. And I had to say if I wanted them to try to resuscitate her while she waited - another $500 (she wasnt that far gone). At 9:30 the doctor called me to tell me exactly what my vet had already explained. I got the impression they hadnt even examined her, because she was only referencing test results from my vet from that Sat visit. After at least 10 minutes of listening to her slowly read through everything Id already heard, I apologetically interrupted to ask - can you do anything for her RIGHT NOW? I understand theres more to consider, but have you examined her? She evaded the questioning and said - let me get you an estimate and that will help you decide. At 11:15-ish I finally get a call from an assistant saying that minimum 24 hours would be $1400. Ok, I knew it would be a high cost - BUT they had done NOTHING for her during that THREE HOURS she sat in a cage in there. No attempts to calm her nausea or get her hydrated. The assistant delivering the estimate expected me to choose - check her in and pay the $1400 or have her put down. When I said I wanted to take her home and maybe let her pass there, I was told that was cruel. I had to pretty much demand they give her something for nausea and give her back to me. The shot for nausea was less than $30 bucks, so theres no reason why they couldnt have done that as soon as she was inside.EVEN STILL I HAD TO GET ANOTHER LECTURE. The vet wanted to talk to me again, called me and said my vet recommended hospitalization (duh). I had to say: Did she get the shot for nausea? (yes) Ok then GIVE ME MY DOG BACK. AND STILL tried to tell me I was cruel for not putting her down. I have her home now and I dont even trust they actually gave her the nausea meds, because within 10 minutes of that vet hanging up on me, she was out the door. There was no way I wasnt going to flame them here, and I wish I had the time to really read these reviews.Update: 11/24: I was just notified by Google that this review had been viewed a lot. So, an update - I went back to my regular vet who gave me a few days to sit with her at home and make sure we were ready. Then they performed a very loving euthanasia and allowed me to be there. It was less than $100 + a fee for creamation (optional). Its the Animal Clinic on 79 and Sunrise.Anyway I was browsing the comments here again for this emergency clinic and took note - about 9 of 10 owner replies to bad experiences say that the person wasnt even in their files as ever being a customer, or that they generally did nothing wrong. The pattern I see is that they dont want to deal with old pets - those wont be return customers. Theres another emergency clinic off 620 near 35, behind the starbucks (ish) that I went to years ago, and they were pricy but completely upfront. And when they took her in they immediately started exam and minor treatment.

Expensive place to go, but we only have two 24hr pet hospitals in the area and this one was the closest to us. Our dog was not eating and head pressing. Our vet estimated it might cost $1600 to go to this hospital. After we admitted our dog to Heart of TX, the estimate came at $2,200. That was for an Ultrasound and one night stay. We asked for a breakdown and they sent an estimate with over 20 line items on it. It was allot of small charges that added up over $2000!They called us back and we said we were thinking about it and it seem high, we wanted to get a 2nd opinion, but they already had our dog. They asked what we were comfortable with and said we had a estimate from our vet for $1600. After a few minutes, the worked up another estimate for $1800. We said okay and they requested payment before any work would begin. The next day they said our dog was not doing well and they wanted to keep him another day and to do more tests. Another estimate came for $3500 more. We asked about test results from the last estimate and they never did any. They claimed that we declined the tests, which we never actually declined. The tests was listed on our 2nd estimate, but they just never did it. They jacked up the cost of ER transferring and Internal medicine to try and keep the overall costs the same and not do the testing. After we expressed concerns, they did the tests, but we had to pay even more to get our dog back. The tests came back negative, so we tried treating at home with antibiotics. After a few days, our dog was not doing well. We took our dog back to our regular vet. We did blood work and his liver was not well. We decided we had to put him down. This was our first dog and we only had him for 3 months. It was a costly experience. People should know that taking any pet to his hospital will cost you minimum of $2K. We found out later that pet hospitals in Mexico are much cheaper. Less then $100 for what you will pay $1000 for in the USA. You could fly there with your dog and take a nice vacation for the price you pay here.

Not happy with Heart of Texas at all. We took our two bottle baby fosters to the emergency center. After telling the tech repeatedly that they have no symptoms of parvo, or to at least do a parvo test on only one puppy because if one of them has both of them probably have it they refused and still did the test on both of them which was 75$ a piece. I have worked with many animals in the past, and know the distinct smell of coccidia. I specifically told the tech about the smell and his response was pretty much “that’s how puppies smell”, after 13 foster puppies I knew clearly that that’s not just how puppies smelled. I would hope after 3 hours at the vet one of the staff would be able pick that up. Then pretty much after $500 in vet bills they just have us another brand of wet food and an anti nausea medicine. I find it scary that they couldn’t even diagnose coccidia. The next day we took them to another vet and she pointed in out when she first held them. We should have gone to Central Texas like we always do. They are the most kind hearted vets ever and are not after your money and genuinely want to help your animal. Very disappointed with Heart of Texas.

I’D GIVE NO STARS IF I COULD!! I needed my dogs ears flushed because she’s gone deaf from build up on the inside of her ear canal. She kept barking so I kept her outside of the lobby while we waited. They said it would be 2-3 hours cuz a dog was in critical condition, so obviously I understood. I asked if I were to leave and come back would it be okay. They said yes and to just stay in the area and to call. Again, my dog was barking so much, so to make it easier on the other dogs I stayed out of the lobby. An hour goes by and I call to see if now would be a good time. They said they’d be able to take me in. I came back and they told me I was put to the BOTTOM OF THE LIST FOR LEAVING THE BUILDING!!! They told me it would be okay if I stepped out. THEY TOLD ME!! By now my 15 YEAR OLD DOG is anxious and stressed from so much going on. She has horrible arthritis and this is obviously taking a toll on her. They said if I wanted to be put back on the list that I would have to wait ANOTHER 2 HOURS!!!!I work at a Pet Smart and we take elderly dogs seriously. They are top priority!! Along with pugs, bulldogs and any other challenged breathing dogs! This THE WORST Veterinarian you could EVER go to!! ABSOLUTELY DO NOT GO HERE!!! DO NOT!!!!!

I strongly discourage people from bringing their furry loved ones to Dr Crystal Hoh. She has a Texas Veterinary Board of Medical Examiners disciplinary action against her for euthanasia drug mismanagement. She makes strategic errors in her implementation advice. Her poor advice cost me nearly $1,000 in medical equipment that I later found out many pharmacists do not recommend (Stay away from FreeStyle Libre glucose monitoring equipment as it is inaccurate and these inaccuracies could cost your pet their life or put them in pain). When asked to account for her decisions, Dr Crystal Hoh declined which indicated to me that she is unwilling to have her intelligence questioned and her dedication to her furry patients that we love dearly is limited at best. Her license expires on 10/31/2020 I will be requesting that the TVBME not renew it and that they suspend it until she gets past her personal issues so she can be present with her patients and not put them at risk.

This place is horrible! One of my friends dog died here and yesterday she had to take her other dog which was the sister of the dog that died because she was in critical condition. First they didnt even know what the heck they were doing 2nd they werent gonna see her dog because she didnt have a certain amount of money. Idk but they just came off money hungry like they only care about the money than the animals. I would not recommend this place at all. BAD SERVICE. I wouldnt even rate this place a 1 star but unfortunately thats all we can do.

The most genuine and knowledgeable doctors and their assistants I have ever encountered among any pet or even human doctors. Thanks to them being available 24/7 I we were able to save my very sick tiny baby kitten. And today once again they were able to give me advice after she had a near drowning experience. I hope everyones pets stay healthy but if you need emergency vet Heart of Texas truly does have a heart and great vets!

My dog suffered from a heat stroke on 7/11 in the morning. We took her back to the house to cool her down and she was becoming unresponsive (blue in the face) I believe we cooled her down too much so we took her to Banfield to keep her stable and aware. They wanted me to take her to a 24 hr around that area but I refused because I wanted to check and be with her if her time of passing was coming. That Monday we went to get her check up at Banfield and they made me aware of her kidney levels being too high, white blood count and pallates were low so she recommends I take her to a 24 hr care Heart of Texas. After consulting with her primary vet, I took her that night! I first went to AVES but their wait was 4 hrs from 8:30 so we decided to go to HOT. We called prior to see the wait time and said it was 1-2 hrs. She was checked in by 1030 as they promised ! I was very nervous about leaving her there but they reassured me and comforted me mentioning they will take good care of Ladee dont worry. I got continuous calls and check ins on her progress as well as payment charges. They also let me know from the beginning what the range of her visit will be. She stayed for two nights. The doctor was so nice and the nurses/technicians were supportive. She has been doing much better ! And I am so grateful for them and their attention for Ladee. I even called after to get some comfort on giving her a medication and they walked me through it ! The price also was the amount they said !

They were amazing getting my Boston Terrier in immediately when she was having an allergic reaction. I was so freaked out and she was so swollen. The reaction was quick and they got us in and out while taking great care of her. This is the second time I’ve rushed one of my girls here and they are always so understanding even when I might be overreacting!

Very happy with this place. We had a dog emergency during this Covid pandemic. They took my dog right away and kept me updated by calling me while I waited. They made sure the very first thing they did was give him pain meds, which eased my anxiety. They wrapped his leg in a medicated bandage, which started to bleed as they walked him out, so they took the time to take him back, apply more medicine, and redo the bandage. I really appreciate them being thorough and keeping me updated during this panicked time!

THEY WILL WASTE YOUR TIME AND WASTE ALL YOUR MONEY!260 dollars for an x-ray and 100 for a check up that took almost 2 hoursjust to find out that I had to put down my cat or pay 4,000Some thankfully decided to take care of the cat but this vet is still a horrible place and you better hope that nothing is wrong with your pet at night.

I have had to use Heart of Texas Vet Specialty Center twice. Once for grape poisoning for our older dog, and again for a rescue puppy with parvovirus and possible distemper. Each time our family has had an excellent experience with this facility. The staff is very kind and responsive. We always recieved excellent customer service. Just as with a human emergency room, wait times can be long and treatment can be pricey. If your pet needs to be hospitalized you should plan on at least $1000. But HTVSC prices are competitive with other emergency facilites in the Austin area, and they offer exceptional care. When I am worried about a pet issue that I feel cannot wait, this is who I call.Update 7.31.2021- We had to use HTVSC again for our older dog when he suddenly lost the ability to use his back legs. As always, they got him in as soon as they could, and we are very happy with the treatment he recieved from Dr. Higginbotham. Its scary to have something awful happen to your pet at 6pm on a Friday night. Im so glad to have a facility I trust that I know is open 24/7/365. Everyone from the front desk staff to the vet tech to the doctor was compassionate and helpful. I highly reccommend.

Mid-last year, we knew something wasnt right with our kitty, Gabe. After several veterinarians and practices trying to diagnose Gabe, Doctor Sinese was the first able to give us answers. We had to make the unfortunate decision to put down Gabe last December after he had lost nearly half his weight due to cancer. Doctor Sinese was there for our cat and us through the entire process. I would hands down recommend her if you need an internal medicine doctor.
