A place to sleep but will keep you up if your a light sleeper and might do more damage than good in some cases but for the most of people it helps better than me

This place has been an important institution providing a safe and steady overnight sanctuary for the homeless youth in Portland for more than twenty years. This at-risk population is historically underserved and Street Light gives night-by-night beds to young people who are struggling to survive. If the facility is at all sub-standard, it only reflects the City of Portlands inability to serve these young people better.

A bit strict, but for a good reason. Staff is friendly if you dont act up. Dirty, but what do you expect?

This place is awfull. Do not let your children, friends or family stay here. The place is filthy and you will get sick. The staff might have a the same iq if not lower than most the youth there and that doesnt mix well with the biest and predjudice side. They will find a way to get you ethier doing chores ie cleaning up the everyone elses flith or kicked out for one wrong move. I feel like iv been harassed and Im damn sure Im not the only one. Luckily I havnt put any names on here yet.NOT A SAFE PLACE

This shelter is filthy i spent 3 months investigating this place their walls are filled with white mold and termites, the air atmosphere is dirty and holds the smell of must and no air disinfectant spray is accessible anywhere in the building the floor Bords are rotted and soaked from water leak damage, the piping there i can tell hasnt been changed in ages and some pipes have thick clods of white mold sticking to the cracks, the refrigerator is broken and under temperature storing unsafe food kids there are getting sick from the constant smell of white mold and the attitudes of staff professionals are no help either investigate this place yourself for the truth. i spent 3 months their as a youth under 24

Staff are rude the time I spent there. Some of the youth do drugs or have sex in the rooms at night, the showers were questionable. The food there was meh, and the rules were basically made up as they day goes. Thur at least have a okay storage system there but honestly you will run into some REALLY SHADY people there. There are a lot of thieves there and the staff does nothing to stop the thefts. They put in a new door after someone destroyed their previous one after they kicked someone out over nothing. Avoid this building and the nearby two blocks INCLUDING the McDonalds between the hours of 6-9 pm and 5-7 am. The building is ran by Janus youth and their offices are located over in SE Portland near MLK (or toucan google it, your already here). Youd see staff also selling stuff on eBay, which is kinda weird when your supposed to be helping people... There are two shelters and a transitional housing inside, the Porchlight is nightly and you can be put on the waiting list for Streetlight which is on the third floor. The transitional housing is also on the third floor. When you go inside they have a office on the second floor so they can verify you and make sure you arent dangerous (which is funny considering the people that go there and the incidents that took place there).

IM STARTING THIS REVIEW OUT BY SAYING THAT THE STAFF MEMBER BY THE NAME OF JABARI NEEDS TO GET FIRED. ANY YOUTH WHO HAS STAYED HERE WILL TELL YOU THE SAME THING. HE ABUSES HIS POSITION OF POWER AS STAFF AND TREATS ALL OF THE YOUTH WHO GO THERE WITH COMPLETE INDIGNITY AND DISRESPECT. HOMELESS YOUTH GET TALKED DOWN ON ENOUGH BY ALMOST EVERYONE AROUND THEM AS IT IS, THEY DONT NEED THIS BY PEOPLE WHO ARE MEANT TO HELP.After staying here for a few months, i can wholeheartedly say that youre better off either couch surfing or sleeping on the streets. The building is far below the health regulations required for a livable space. Many of the youth who go there are thieves and the staff do nothing about theft. Many of the youth are racist, homophobic, transphobic, sexist, and just flat out awful people and the staff still let them in, which is a danger to any of the POC and LGBT youth that go there. The staff are rude and make up rules as they go along. I also get a sense that im in a reformation facility, rather than a safe environment for me to get my life together and housed. Its overall just a depressing experience staying there and one i would never recommend to anyone facing homelessness.
