The best martial arts studio that I have been to in years, all do to the skills of the instructor and owner! I came in for one class and now go 3 to 4 times per week, every week and am feeling more confident in my martial arts and self defense skills with every class! Getting my niece signed up as it is also a great way to get kids into martial arts and self defense! I cannot say enough good things about the owner, David!

My son has been taking martial arts lessons at Portland Academy of Self Defense for the last 2 years, beginning when he was 5 years old. The experience has been nothing but positive. His instructor, Dave Pritchett, is knowledgeable, physically talented, and above all patient. Dave has the ability to explain complex maneuvers in a way that is easy for a young boy to grasp. Along with martial arts training, Dave also stresses the importance of concentration, respect, and discipline.

With encouragement from a friend, I signed up for a Hapkido class with Master David in July, 2014. And although I was sore next morning after my first class, I knew the that I had made a good life-changing decision. Not only am I learning how to protect myself but I am making a small investment to my health and overall happiness. Master Davids been really patient with me too. Great instructor and well worth it.

I needed to get in shape after an injury, and well, middle age. I tried Hapkido for the first time, and really enjoy it. Now, two years later, both my wife and I go instead of going to a boring gym. My cholesterol is way down, and I am in much better shape. The head instructor is a very good teacher, and a really low key person. Both my wife and I are in much better shape, and we enjoy the well rounded curriculum. I highly recommend Master Pritchetts classes for men and women who want to get in better shape, and learn how to defend oneself in a safe, fun environment.
