I’ve been coming here for years( I always try to support small businesses). Some of the staff are exceptional and some of them are incredibly rude - every single time. Which as a non-binary person who is usually perceived as a woman feels possibly discriminatory in nature. As someone who is also in customer service it’s pretty disappointing to get such different treatment from different people. I can go in knowing exactly what I’m looking for and certain employees are flippant and dismissive. Yet I keep going… really frustrating.

As someone who knows nothing about tools but wants things very specific, it can be incredibly frustrating as someone at a hardware store to figure out what it is i really need. I cannot remember the name of who I was helped by today but the blue eyes bearded guy with a son did an INCREDIBLE job today, i can be a stress case and he answered every stupid question i had and ultimately helped me find what i didnt even know i needed. Thank you.

Jesse had excellent customer service and they even stayed after close to let the customers finish their shopping. Google should update their info, right now store hours are till 4pm not 6pm due to Covid.

Discrimination. They are not allowing children in the store, because they have a tendency to touch everything. They said they could shop for me if i wanted just a couple things. I stand there with my 6 year old, both of us wearing masks, holding her hand, clearly we are being cautious. What am I supposed to do if I want more than a couple things or want to look around? Leave the kid in a hot car? Home alone?I feel like I am being punished for trying to support a local business. Never going back to this place, crisis or not - they are discriminating against single parents and many others (mostly low-income) who have no option but to bring their child shopping with them. They didnt even apologize - just said they have a right to do this - just because you have a right doesnt make it the right thing to do. If there is an out of control kid - fine, ask the family to leave. But dont discriminate against all families.

My favorite hardware store on the west coast. Inclusive vibes, knowledgeable long term staff, and surprisingly competitive with big box stores when it comes to inventory.Plus they have free popcorn!

Basically most of what you need for home and garden projects, they have it. The prices are reasonable and fair. Really good selection for the size of store. Has a great feel of small town community business, and the best customer service. Youll definitely feel at home. Employees are very knowledgeable as well.

Hate to do it. I love the idea of a small local hardware store but unfortunately my experiences with the employees here make me go elsewhere. Ive lived in the neighborhood for 3 years and wrote off the first few poor experiences because the store is so cool. But my wife just came back and talked about how rude and unhelpful they were to her as well.So I had to do it em. 2 stars for the brick and mortar. 0 stars for the unhelpful, entitled, self-important culture that seems to run through the store. They scoff at your entry level questions. Chide you if you dont know what a pex pipe is. Laugh if you mispronounce a tool. Its sad. You go to the small stores for friendly faces and quality help.I do highly recommend Beaumont Hardware on Fremont, they are great. I now have to spend my time at Lowes (ugh) because I dont want to be chastised at Hankins.

Surprisingly well stocked hardware store. Not sure how they manage to cram such a variation of stuff into that modest space. Very pleasant and helpful staff; moderate prices. And it’s walking distance for me (woo hoo).

This is more than just a typical Ace Hardware. The owner is a member of the community and they go out of their way to assist everyone with kindness and respect. Prices and selection are good. The quality of the tools and parts are excellent. I recommend this for amateur DIYers and professionals, alike.

I love this place. Theyre always so friendly and knowledgeable. The one thing I like is when Im in a spat with my girlfriend...I bring home popcorn. She loves it! Now she wants to go there with me, which Ill accept that. ;-)

One of my favorite places in the neighborhood. Truly diverse employees and diverse customers. They donate the use of their popcorn machine to a neighborhood non-profit for fund raising dances. They keep it real everyday by taking care of everyone who walks in the door. Never have felt or seen prejudice here in any form. Dont expect to get pampered though...Thanks for staying in the neighborhood all these years Hankins!

Ive gone into this store on four different occasions and dealt with 3 different individuals during those transactions. Everytime Ive left the store feeling as if I should have left my purchase on the shelf due to being wretched from the top of the aisle as I peruse the shelves in search of my supplies, not being offered a bag after making purchases of several items, purchase items being thrown carelessly into bags Ive requested, lack of acknowledgment in the form of eye contact during purchases, and customer service that felt more like being tolerated than valued as a customer. Mind you Im employed in the construction trades, and know exactly what Im looking for when I arrive. I was going to this store due to the convenience of its proximity to my home; unfortunately thats not even enough of a plus to coerce me back. My last purchase was yesterday.

Great for that missing item for a DIY job with having to drive out to I205, etc. Wide range of hardware, drill bits etc and gardening supplies. Its a proper ironmongery as the Brits would exclaim.

A big part of what makes the neighborhood walkable and livable.Hankins on MLK has been my go-to everything store for many years, and it continues to improve. They have an AMAZING variety of merchandise for such a small space. Paint and all related tools, fasteners, garden stuff, power and hand tools, plumbing, electric, a little lumber, a few household items, even candy and popcorn. I go there for specific homeowner items, and for craft and hobby off-label solutions. The staff is friendly and helpful, always willing to help me figure things out.Theres a bike staple out front, and its easily accessible from the east side of the neighborhood via the back driveway, without ever having to ride on MLK, which is nice.

The selection of odds-and-ends is good and the people here are friendly enough. But its no comparison to the Pearl ACE Hardware. :(
