Love this place! They make exploring the woods possible for children and adults with a friendly guide. If you are looking for adventure, you can expect great things on one of their backpacking trips. They are non profit and offer great experiences for groups. Definitely a must try.

Opal Creek is a beautiful historical mining town that has been converted into an off grid environmental education center. They also rent some nice rustic cabins to the general public. This is a great way to get out into the wilderness and also learn a little bit about the history of how this place was protected from logging.

The view was great in spite of the leaches, now a have blood type B positive... I was born with A negative. Expect a law suite!

I have a difficult time reconciling how Opal Creek Ancient Forrest Center is supposedly designed to bring the experience of being in the wilderness closer to people. “Off the grid” as they portray is actually running water, electricity, and heating. Having basically a camp of several buildings in the middle of the wilderness goes against any true definition of wilderness. John Muir is undoubtably rolling over in his grave at the thought of electrified cabins in the middle of the wilderness. Oh, and the constant van, truck, and car traffic on what for others who aren’t paying is supposed to be a hiking trail often poses situations of dodging cars as if in an game of car versus hiker. If I wanted to hike up a road with constant traffic on it I would have stayed in the city. Again, this goes against any idea of wildreness and worthy of zero stars if possible because of their apparent inability to create a true wilderness experience for those who visit the area. My advice is leave the wilderness to the forest and the people who escape the city to enjoy it because all this company is is a glorified hotel in the woods and at odds with those seeking a wilderness experience.

The land is amazing, the people running the cabins ect at jawbone flats, are horrible human beings. My 5 year old daughter lost her water on the hike, we got to to the ghost town and found a girl in the laundry room with a cup and a sink,I asked if my heat stroked daughter could please have water, she said no. She told me there was water up ahead, there was not. refusing a child water is not only a horrible thing to do, its dangerous. I had to find a creek and giver her some with my hands..I hope that girl realizes what a horrible person she is.
