Mega CompuTech fixed my cars instrument gauge cluster!The Problem:The problem was that I could barely see the miles per hour (MPH) speed I was driving and also couldnt see the engine speed (RMP) on the instrument gauge cluster. Sooner or later, the last light bulb on the speedometer needle would go out, so I needed to get this fixed. After a lot of research on car forums, I found that the LEDs were slowly going out which is common for an old car. After about 13 years, the majority of the LEDs went out.Specifically, the LED LIGHTS on my speedometer and tachometer (RPM) needles needed to be replaced by soldering new LED lights on the needles.How it started:While visiting Philly, I Googleed any sort of technical or electronics repair shop that could fix my problem. I told them I needed new LEDs soldered on to the needles, and all computer and cellphone repair shops rejected the task and said they dont work on car stuff, but when I called Mega CompuTech, I spoke to Manuel who said sure hell look at it and try to fix it.The Process:A day after talking to Manuel on the phone, I came to his shop, which seems to be located in a typical Philly townhouse in a neighborhood. Parking was a big challenge. I pulled over on the sidewalk in the narrow street where parking wasnt available. I talked to him in person and showed him the problem and explained to him what I think needed to be done. He said it looks very difficult but he said hell try. I uninstalled my instrument gauge cluster, took out the needles, gave him the needles and replacement LEDs I bought off Amazon, and he went into his house/shop and started going to work. He replaced one LED initially and we retested the needle to see if the new LED lit up, and it did! So then we continued and he tried to replace all 8 LEDs among the 2 needles (4 on each needle).Final Outcome:The final outcome wasnt perfect, but it was great! The majority of the LEDs were working which lit up my needles again. Given that it was going to be a tough soldering job, and this wasnt a normal type of task for Mega CompuTech since he mainly works on computers and phones, I think the results were excellent!Ratings:- 5 out of 5 Stars for Customer Service!- 5 out of 5 Stars for accepting and attempting a difficult job.- 4 out of 5 stars since it was hard to get all the LEDs working, but it could have been due to some bad LEDs or burnt circuits on the micro circuit boards, and therefore possibly out of his control.- 1 out of 5 stars for the parking situation, but this is totally out of Mega CompuTechs control. I suggest you drop off your item to be fixed, call him and he will come out, and pick it up when hes finished. I decided to wait at my car because I wanted to test the needles.Overall Rating:I give Manuel 5 stars overall given the difficulty of my unusual project.Pictures:Ive included pictures of the instrument gauge cluster before and after the repair, and also some close ups of the soldering work on the needles themselves.
