PROS: Quality Restaurant, Salt Water PoolCONS: MUSTY ROOM, Over Priced, Guest Services, and the MUSTY ROOMBOTTOM LINE: DisappointingOur room was so musty we kept the doors and window open the entire time we were in the room to allow fresh air in during the day, and the window at night. Even the air coming from the HVAC vents was musty. The musty smell coupled with the very outdated interior makes these accommodations way over priced. Weve stayed in far nicer rooms for less than half the price. On our last night at 10:30pm water began streaming from the bedroom ceiling over the bed. Staff investigated and gave us the option to move to the room next door which we accepted. They went to get us key cards for the room and never returned. It was late, we had an early flight and just went to bed. My wife slept on the couch and I on the dry side of the bed.Its a great location on the beach, and in the mid 1980s this resort was a crown jewel in the hospitality industry of southern CA. Those days are long gone. This resort is in need of a significant investment in TLC.We wont be staying here again and dont recommend it.Oh, and the parking cost exactly twice as much as parking at the airport.

Stayed 2 days for our anniversary trip. Arrived and the front desk lady was very pleasant. The room had a spatacular view, which I would rate 5 stars. The room was large but quite dated...probably really 2 stars ...the pool area was very nice and clean, my husband enjoyed it immensely. The restaurant on site wasnt anything special, but the bartender was nice. Overall we had a great time however the cost of the room and $32 a day for parking seemed a little excessive.

Stayed here as part of a room block for a wedding, the quality of the room and amenities was sub par for the price. Room hasn’t been updated in 20 years, shower was horrendous, the free breakfast had cold eggs. The only redeeming factor were the grounds and proximity to the beach. Also $31 per night to park your self. Avoid building 6 as it’s straight from the 80s. Will avoid all embassy suites in the future

Dont waste your money! Beautiful view but accommodation for this visit was a nightmare.... Mold on the sofa mattress was probably my biggest concern, besides spending a full day getting sofa bed fixed. Staff tried to make it right but in all honesty manager could of done more to make it right! I use to frequent this resort years ago and was always a great place, but in all honesty they have raised there prices and give less! $500 a night oh plus parking $36 a night! You would think they would comp parking to those that are staying in the hotel!!! I could go on and on but I would think twice about staying here... it was a disappointment, had the manager (Sophia) made it right maybe I would not be writing this review.....

The hotel advertises that they are right on the beach. However, there is a large mound of sand that prevents you from seeing the beach unless you go way down the path. This hotel is not handicap friendly at all. I recently had foot surgery and am on a knee scooter. It is obvious I cant get around. The large stone paths make it very difficult and painful to get around on. No doors have buttons that will open automatically so I struggled to open the heavy doors and risked hitting my foot as the door does not stay open. I ordered food from the restaurant and asked if someone could please bring it to my room because my foot was really hurting and I was trying to keep it elevated. They would not deliver it. The ONLY employee that was nice and helpful was the man doing the breakfast. He carried my plate to my table for me and offered to help get coffee and whatever else I wanted. Other employees saw me struggle with things and never offered to help. The gift shop is extremely difficult to get around in. Again, no help was offered. I asked to get a sharpie and the girl pointed to the very top and said theyre up there. I had to ask her if she could get it for me as I couldnt reach it. Even she had to stand on the shelf to reach it and she thought I would be able to do that!?When we got the room I asked about an elevator as we were on the top floor. She said yeah theres an elevator. What she didnt say is that there are stairs you have to go up to get to the elevator from the parking lot! So frustrating!!Highly disappointed in the hotel. For what it cost they should be more accommodating to people. I wouldnt recommend this hotel if you have any difficulty getting around as nobody is going to help you.

Great place to spend a weekend or longer with your family. Friendly staff, nice breakfast, beachfront location. You can take a walk around the area, take a bite at amazing pizza place ( Toppers) just a few blocks away, strall the channels,go kayaking or swim at the hotels pool. Kids can shoot some hoops, tennis lovers can use the tennis courts. A lot of stores and restaurants are in the area in case you need anything. If you are easy going and ready to relax and enjoy your stay - you will.

We have stayed at the Mandalay Beach Resort on 4 different occasions. Our last stay was by far was the worst. The room was tired. The furniture appeared dirty so we put sheets on everything we sat on. The shower door was broken and the refrigerator didnt work. The restaurant food was also bad. We ordered salmon which was dry and fish and chips were so greasy that they were not eatable. On a positive note the front office staff was wonderful and tried their best make our stay bearable.

I just wanted to chime in about what it means to have great service BEFORE your stay. A lot of us just go online and click a few times and make a reservation. Sometimes, you need a little more and that requires the ability to call the front desk and speak with someone. I was extremely happy to have Olivia pick up the phone and help me with my requests. We are all busy and I always fear reaching out to a web-based industry by phone but she was amazing. She was cheerful, helpful, and made me feel very much at ease! I havent stayed here yet but I would highly recommend just for the service so far!!

Upon arrival we wanted to split the room between two cards but the hostess wasn’t able to do so. Our first night stay was in a room with air conditioning that didn’t work and a phone that didn’t work. We asked the next day for maintenance but were moved to another room which was better. The rooms are outdated and musty. It’s a shame. The beach is beautiful but the tar that gets on your skin is not. The resort has a lot of potential but it would take some money to bring it current and it definitely needs more than one pool to accommodate everyone. Maybe a lazy River on the side that is nothing but water falls and landscape that I haven’t seen anyone over there enjoying. Waste of space. I spoke to someone in the elevator that said they had to move to another room at 3am because the shower pan flooded the carpet.

Being on the beach is a huge advantage for this hotel; however the room provided for the long weekend family vacation is awful with non-functioning AC (humid, smelly carpet) and poor performing RI shower. Only so much can be done by maintenance personnel to salvage experience from a substandard room. Would request to have room 7113 thoroughly repaired before issuing to other guests. Beach access is great and hotel has well maintained pool and outdoors.

Breakfast was chaos. What resort closes breakfast at 10am on a weekend? The line for breakfast was crazy. The hotel has stopped snack time because apparently it does not consider itself to be an Embassy Suites. They are falsely using the Embassy Suites name. They are converting to a Curio, and they consider themselves to be too good for Embassy Suites. They did not give me an upgrade despite being a diamond member. They dont care about diamond members. They care less if you are a Hilton member of any kind. They had available rooms, and wanted money to upgrade me. They also had closed all their hot tubs.

Positives: Super friendly staff, great restaurant.Negatives: I’ve stayed here several times for work trips, every time I have the same experience with my room. The rooms always smell moldy/musty. The smell is so bad that I often can’t sleep while I’m there, and my fiancé notices it on my clothes when I get home. This last time, I also noticed mold on the shower curtain. Since this is a regular occurrence, I sent in a complaint to the hotel management, but never heard back. For the price this place charges for rooms, I would personally hold Hilton to a higher standard.

I have been coming to this Embassy Suites for years. I came to the same location in February during the height of Covid and knew that the hot tub was closed. However, on this trip, I was told that the hot tubs were open to the customers. It was not. In fact, while we were swimming, a jack hammer was used on the hot tub and a plume of cement and smoke spread throughout the pool area. I quickly took my children to the room so that they would not inhale the substance in the air. We have returned to this Embassy Suites because we love the pools and hot tubs and the location next to the beach.

Ive stayed in hundreds of hotels (at least) and this was by far the worst. As we walked through the building to our room, the mold smell was overpowering and when we got into our room, the smell was so bad, we could barely breathe. It definitely seemed unhealthy and there was no way we could sleep there. The room was extremely dirty. We didnt want to touch or sit on anything. The atmosphere was frat house party. People were everywhere drunk, extremely loud, smoking, spilling beer over everything. We called the front desk and told them about the terrible mold smell. They said they didnt have any other rooms and since every nearby hotel was also booked, we asked if we could pay for the room but sleep in our RV (which we drove there and was parked in the lot) since we didnt feel safe staying in that room. They said no. On the plus side, they said theyd refund our money (although Ive yet to see the refund, so it doesnt not seem as though that actually happened) and we drove 45 minutes to another hotel.

They spent another 15+ minutes together. The room smelt like smoke even though I was assured the property was smoke free, I found a cigarette butt outside our patio door. Furniture was tattered, water stains on art work. NO HOT WATER. Only 1 coffee cup and 1 regular plastic cup in a room that could easily sleep 4. No bottle water in room and the vending area had no vending machine. I have traveled the world and this by far was the worst experience for the price. We grabbed our beach gear and drove to the Embassy Sites at Mandalay Beach in Oxnard. It was perfect. We paid $7 for valet parking near the entrance. We bought a to-go lunch at the restaurant and walked out to the beach. Make sure to let the front desk know you are buying lunch and theyll give you a guest key youll need to get back into the hotel grounds from the beach. There are convenient restrooms in the hotel restaurant. The beach is beautiful and deep with clean fine white sand. We watched the waves, filled our lungs with the clean air, bathed in the sun, and enjoyed a very nice lunch. Hours later it was easy to carry our beach chairs to the car. This hotel advertises a beautiful beachfront view, BUT be careful. Not only do many rooms not have a beachfront view, but if you book a room that is not specifically an ocean view or partial ocean view, you may end up not even with a courtyard view, but of a trash strewn utility lot, garbage trucks, and the hotels garbage bins. Our room had a nice patio with such a view (see photos). I know this is not a five star hotel, but come on! At least put up a partitian to block that mess. When we arrived at our suite and realized that they had relegated us to the ghetto side of the hotel, I called the front desk and asked for a room change. The receptionist was cordial and made an effort but could not help us even though we were willing to pay for an upgrade. The same was true of the receptionist who couldnt give us a 1 hour late checkout so I could go for a jog on the beach after waiting 45 minutes in the breakfast line. So much for loyalty to their Hilton Honors members. I probably wouldnt even be making a stink about this except our bad room location was the same price as the same type of room with much better locations. The other downsides of the hotel was the $32 a night self park, the dated, dingy, and dim rooms, lack of anything in their in room media offerings other than basic cable, and the musty room odor you would never expect at a hotel like Embassy Suites. On the plus side, the hotel is in a beautiful location, suites are spacious, beds and pillows were comfy, the grounds are nice overall, the complimentary breakfast was good (although the wait was long), and the staff was courteous even when they couldnt accommodate requests. Id give this hotel another shot but would make sure that I dont end up in the ghetto section next time by specifically booking an ocean or partial ocean view. Also I hope they give the place some updates in the near future as it feels a bit dated. Overall very disappointing stay. Do better Hilton!

I had to call hilton corporate to be able to get help, and the black lady was able to check me in after corporate called. There were no dolly carts available near the elevators which I was told there would be. Had to ask 2x to get a bellboy to bring to my room. They have an employrr whp is not helpful and directing me to an opposite end of the hotel when I asked where the lobby was after trying to find it on my own. The other guest in line also approached me saying they has trouble checking in. The pet fee is a lot and we were able to receive only one dog gift even though we had 2 dogs. The restaurant had horrible service and an only dessert order took over 1 hour to get ready for our togo order. I wanted to cancel after approaching the one hour mark and the bartender finally went back to get my food. They quickly stuffed everything in plastic bags when all the other to go orders were in paper bags. Portions were small for the price I paid. There should be compensation for the poor service at this restaurant. Even the person sitting next to me ordered dinner after we ordered and they got their food sooner than us. Lots of fees including parking 125 dog fee. The room was large but outdated. 2 baths, large balcony. Building 3, 2nd floor had as described full ocean view. The fountains were nice. We went to walk our dogs and there was a couple behind us with an unleashed small puppy dog that said, you dont have to pick up the poop, everyone leaves it. Despite the positives this did not suffice nor replace the poor customer service I have received at this place. However, the furniture, telephones and paint that was there 30 years ago is still there.Id requested an upgrade to an ocean view room but it wasnt available. We had a resort view room. Which was basically really loud waterfalls and dead palm trees. The hotel definitely needs some TLC. The paint is dull and peeling. They patio umbrellas are faded and broken. The front of our room had a view of the dumpsters. Now to the room itself. The rooms are large and had 2 bathrooms which was really nice. The suite had a living room and separate bedroom. The furniture was old, stained, and dingy. We refused to sit on the couch. I sat in a wooden arm chair and my boyfriend sat at the desk. Not exactly comfortable. The sticker on the door claimed the room was sanitized. However, there were fingerprints all over the doorknob which says to me the handles were not cleaned. The brown paint was peeling to reveal the teal/turquoise paint underneath. It was gross. The duvet was dirty. There were feathers on the floor, I assume from where the pillows were placed. And dont get me started on those pillows! Awful! The worst part of all of it was my bill.... $399.61 which included $32 for SELF parking. The management has failed in keeping this property up to the standards of the past. Covid cant be blamed for this. The property has obviously needed some much needed attention for years.

Positive: Staff were very accommodating and pleasant. Location was perfect! Negative: Rooms need a but of updating and smelled kind of old.

For a premium room I thought it was mediocre. First it was so dark. Its great to use energy efficient lightbulbs, but when you have to turn on every light it defeats the purpose. It didnt help that the décor was dark as well. A dark brown wall and headboard in the bedroom. It was more fitting for a cabin in the woods and not a beachfront resort. The bed and pillows were very uncomfortable. Plus, for a premium room one would expect a soaker tub and a separate shower; it had just a regular tub with a shower head. It was nice that they replenished the snacks, but it would have been nicer if they had 3 different chip bags instead of all 3 the same. The outside of the hotel is beautiful. The pool is nice and big. Being right on the ocean is very nice. They did have a lot of bikes for guests to use.

The grounds are absolutely beautiful. Incredible gardens, ponds, fountains, and right up against the beach. It was too chilly to get in the pool and the hot tubs were closed due to covid, which is a shame, since they looked super nice. I loved walking around the grounds and taking in the views! As beautiful as the landscaping is, the rooms are not great:1. Although everything was sanitized there was dirt on the walls and floors.2. The walls/floors/ceilings are EXTREMELY thin and creaky. Our upstairs neighbor walking around was loud enough to wake us up every single every night and morning. It was miserable. The hallway outside the room was all tile, so it was also incredibly loud. This is not the place to go if you want peace and quiet in your room. Ive seen other reviewers mention this. We could hear every footstep, every toilet flush, and every door slam in the entire building.3. Also, the water tastes absolutely terrible. I grew up on hard well water but this was nearly undrinkable.4. Our windows both faced a sidewalk and the paved patio. People frequently used the patio as a shortcut for the sidewalk, so we felt like we had little privacy with people constantly walking right up to our windows. Some sort of divider between the patios (like some other buildings had) would fix that!5. The heat in the room also didnt work. It was getting into the 40s at night, our room was set to 75, and it was still blowing out cold air.The staff was all incredibly friendly and helpful. We decided to pay for valet parking so we didnt need to go to and from the guest parking every time. While it was convenient to be parked right out front, the valet was almost never there. Almost every time we needed the car (which was pretty frequently) we had to go to the front desk to get/drop off the keys. Once there was no one at the front desk and we had to wait over 10 minutes for someone to appear so we could get the keys. When the valet was there he was extremely friendly and helpful.Overall we enjoyed our stay! It would have been great if the rooms werent so poorly put together. The scenery was the redeeming quality.

Nicest Embassy Suites I have ever stayed at. Awesome view from our beachfront room (6202). I felt safe there with the COVID protocols they have in place. Room was sparkling clean and sanitized. No maid service until you leave, which is fine by me. Breakfast is still served, but no custom omelettes right now. At the grill they had scrambled eggs, french toast, biscuits and gravy, bacon or sausage, potatoes. Just tell the chef what you want, and hell put it in a takeout container. In the front you can ask for coffee, tea, juice, yogurt, and fruit. We ate on our room balcony, but some people ate on the tables by the pool. We rented electric bikes for 2 hours which was conveniently located at the back of the property by the beach trail.

Terrific location. Spacious rooms. The furniture is tired and needs an update badly. Wi-fi is weak and instable. Absolutely no service in rooms over Memorial Day weekend. IE: Rooms and bathrooms not cleaned or serviced. Unworthy of the Hilton branding.

For the price we paid to stay there, I expected a LOT more. I kindly bagged our trash and put it out by the trashcan near our room, which was full. It stayed there for 2 days. My daughter stepped in dog poop on the bridge and slipped and fell. It got all over her and it remained on the bridge our entire stay, even though I told the front desk about it. Our phone in our room didnt work. There were hardly any staff around, but when I saw them they were not very pleasant.

Considering all the precautions being taken due to COVID, it was a great experience. They manage the pool in an effective manner, staff is very friendly. Pat at the front desk gave us a warm welcome and thoroughly explained all the services available, she was so nice she was even able to upgrade our room. The food was great as well. It was nice to have the resort almost to ourselves.

This hotel is substandard. There was trash littered about the property, including used gloves and used masks on the grounds and bushes. There are dozens of rat traps barely, some barely disguised as rocks and others big plastic black hotels for rates, all over the common areas. We also noticed full trash bags on the ground with clear evidence some kind of animal had bitten through the bottom. The bed had a huge dip in the middle, which made for the most uncomfortable nights sleep ever. The front desk staff seemed like they couldnt be bothered, though they did say they would notify housekeeping. I wonder if they did.....

This place is off the beaten path. Perfect location for a weekend rejuvenation trip. The decor of this place is unique. They have a jungle rain forest theme. The complementary breakfast in the cafeteria is made to order. Also the staff and other guests maintained a comfortably social distance environment. The rooms were clean. The softest memory foam beds. Opened patio doors allow just the right amount of ocean breezes.Yes. If you get a chance to go to the Mandalay beach resort, just do it.

We were just so disappointed this time. When we stayed in June and we were in building seven, we had the best view with an amazing balcony. the room felt worth the price. This time we stayed in building two and it was unsatisfactory. For the price we paid I was very disappointed, especially for being a Hilton and Embassy Suite property. We were going to book again for the summer and after this trip we decided well find another place to visit.

My wife and I had such a great experience here. This place is a great way to stay right on the beach in SoCal without spending a crazy amount of money. The on site restaurant is excellent and there is a complementary breakfast every day. Great access to both LA and the central coast. Highly recommended.

Pros:1. One of the best resorts stay we had in recent times.2. The Partial/Full Ocean View Suites are the best choice.3. Suites are spacious and décor is very welcoming.4. Pool is huge and the setting is very natural.5. Right at the edge of the beach & has nice public walkway in between.6. My toddler son loved their Mac & Cheese and we ended up ordering on back to back evenings.7. The view from 2nd/3rd Floor is to die for.Cons:1. In COVID times, was expecting Sanitizer dispensers at all touch points; which wasnt the case always.2. Breakfast has limited choice for non-meat eaters - just grilled potatoes, juices, yogurt & fruits. No breads, bagels, etc.3. Needs maintenance in certain sections. Some walkways are really stinky. The building we stayed was super nice & clean though.4. Expensive - Self Parking is $32/night, there is a beach parking at walkable distance not sure if its free or cheaper.
