Wow this place is awesome. My kids had so much fun. All the staff are so nice, helpful and know a lot about all the reptiles. They made my kids comfortable enough to actually hold a snake before we left. Feeding the turtles was so much fun too. Highly recommend! πŸπŸ’πŸŠπŸ¦ŽπŸΈπŸ•·οΈ

The smell when you enter is musty and offensive. I went one time to see if the quality of care and husbandry had changed since his Nampa location, it has not. If you are a true reptile keeper, and provide proper husbandry (housing/substrate/lighting/size of enclosures/uvb etc) for your own animals... you know that 90%+ of the animals at the zoo are in a very sad situations. The dark colors of the iguana, Hulk, means he is stressed and unkept. Iguanas need lots of things to climb and Uvb... his enclosure offers none of that. UVB is lacking in most enclosures and there are no dimmers or thermostats to determine what the basking spot is for the animals. The pool of turtles is especially saddening, since knowledgeable keepers know each turtle needs 10 gallons of water per inch of shell and that they thrive better when solo... most of the turtles are at least 7, meaning EACH turtle need 70 gallons of water. When you have 20+ turtles in a stock tank, they simply cannot be living a good quality of life... there is no way, in that set-up, to offer proper basking spots for that many animals. And no matter how cool it seems to watch your kid feed them pellets, they are living in a stressful situation. Most animals dont even have a hide to retreat or relax in to feel secure in their home. Screws are sticking out every where inside of enclosures, which is a huge concern for injuries. The snapping turtles tank, Koopa, is so small he can barely turn around, and there isnt a land area for him to get out of the water at all. The young volunteers are not very knowledgeable and have quick movements while holding large snakes near passerbys, which is worrisome for how the snake will interact with the customers it is being passed off to.With as many volunteers as he has, he can take a couple days off to get these enclosures up to par for the sake of the ANIMALS, not the viewer.

This is a wonderful place! If you like interacting with reptiles, you will love this place! They have so many reptiles you you can feed, pet, or hold here! There’s even a β€œpetting zoo” area where you can walk in and interact with the tortoises and feed them. They also have other animals here likes amphibians, birds, and some insects. Lots of fun for kids!

Absolutely amazing place to visit with or without kids!! Tyler (the owner) believes in Education thru interaction so its a place where you can hold a snake or tarantula, feed turtles, pet HUGE tortoises, and even pet an alligator! All of the animals have been rescued and theres even animals that are adoptable. The proceeds go straight back into animal rescues across the treasure valley and beyond. Thumbs up, and around the world snaps to Tyler and the Idaho Reptile Zoo!

Getting my son to leave is Very Hard, he loves the place. As soon as you go in admission they have a water turtles that you can feed, then they have animals with volunteers walking around for you to see and interact with. Then the large tortoises, they are my sons favorite you can go in with them and feed them. Overall the zoo is a fun place to take the family and for kids to learn about the animals with some hands on experience.

This place is insane! Super hands on. All of the staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. We had a group with a lot of kids and they were very patient in letting each one hold whichever snake they wanted however many times they wanted. I would say its a must-do if you have kids at all interested in animals.

The Boise Reptile Zoo is an excellent place to take kids both young and old! Last weekend we held a birthday celebration for my friend’s daughter, a dozen of her friends children and their parents. Birthday cake was the last thing on their minds because all they wanted to do was check out the animals and interact with them! The staff were friendly and polite, and the educational presentation was excellent and very informative; a smaller child was resistant to get close to the reptiles at first but by the end of the presentation he was as absorbed as the rest of them. The kids absolutely loved the experience and had a blast! Thank you for making it a wonderful day!!

It was not worth the 9 bucks a person. We walked thru in like 10 mins if that. There is no interaction with the animals. The only cool thing is we got to feed the turtles. The staff are all like teenagers. It’s super small. The staff at a snake out n we were able to touch it n that’s it. I won’t go back.

It was cool but there was a bit of staff there and only one asked if my son wanted to hold a snake and told us about feeding turtles. When my sister went the staff let her kids pet and play with more animals and made more of an effort to make it enjoyable. We were the only ones in there at the time today we should of gotten more of a hands on experience like my sister did in my opinion.

This place should be straight up shut down. My years of experience with reptiles went straight to work as soon as I got in there. You have animals that are obese. Tanks that are too tiny for your animals. An animal who obviously have respiratory issues (pickles). Really depressed and stressed animals. Animals with stuck sheds. You name anything bad and this place has it! The smell alone and how dirty those enclosures are should’ve already gotten this place shut down. All of those beddings aren’t the right one for those animals.

Amazing place to go to! This place was bigger than it seemed and had lots of reptiles to look at! We got the pleasure of having one of their staff members, Nick, talk with us about the stories of many of the reptiles they had. He was very knowledgeable, nice, and made the experience ten times better! Definitely a cool place to check out!

Visited June 14 2021. The entire facility was much too small for an animal facility with the amount of animals housed, not to mention the size of many of the animals. Anaconda and alligator require much more room than the area of a walk in closet. The animals caged lacked cleaning and denied fresh food and water. Particularly the parrots, housed in filthy cages that had not been cleaned in atleast many many weeks if not months! The water given was not a clear color or hardly even a liquid substance. It had turned into a thick moldy sludge and about 8 pieces of food were left in a filthy dish in the extremely bare and very depressing cage. Unacceptable for a place supposed to be devoted to animals.....Sadly - A PROUD, RESPONSIBLE and DEVOTED Parrot owner

What an amazing place to take your family. We took our grandson over Spring Break. My wife was a little nervous about the whole reptile thing. As soon as we entered the building, we noticed that all of the reptiles were enclosed. The owner had a snake on his shoulders but never approached anyone. He waited for others to come to him. It was a very non threatening environment. He also held a young alligator so the kids could pet it. We all had a fabulous time and look forward to going back.

The cages were nasty, covered in moss and mold. The turtles did not have an island so that they can rest. They had construction equipment were kids could get to it. Way over priced to see animal in super small cages swimming in their own filth.
