I am a student here and I love this place. We learn to defend ourselves and everyone is so nice and patient with us when we dont understand something. I wouldnt trade this place for anywhere else! It might be a bit dirty but it is an amazing school. Plus, you learn to get your hands dirty and not to let anyone push you around! They push me to be more and push my boundaries. I LOVE SPIRIT MADE STEEL KARATE!!!

My step son trained here for several years. The staff was truly top notch. I have used other martial arts studios through the years but none were as thorough, balanced, and focused on the overall well being of the student. These folks are out to do more than take your money and teach self defense, I sincerely urge you to visit them and chat with them about your personal needs and your path. Martial Arts can help you, Spirit Made Steel can change your life.

Awesome place to train and learn! Constructive and positive environment for kids and adults. The first few lessons are free, then the contracts are only 3 months at a time. Fight conditioning classes are an added bonus.

Try another if you are looking for a real karate school, this is nothing like it.Also it was dirty and I hated to be treated as a beginner even though I told them I already practiced different martial arts for years. After trying different school, let me tell you, there are much better one with a nicier atmosphere.even if you just looking to exercice, the class was nothing but challenging.

I have been going to Madison martial Arts Academy for a while now and have enjoyed every minute of it. The classes are very open and friendly and you never feel like you don’t belong. I ended up having to take a break to go back to school for a semester and when I came back it was like I hadn’t even left. I was able to pick up right where I left off. I would also like to mention that Sensei Russel is amazing. There are not a lot of teachers these days that will work with their students that have “disabilities”, but Sensei Russel was able to show me different ways to do throws or holds to accommodate mine! He is very flexible in his teachings. If you feel like you need more practice in one area he is willing to set aside time in class to work on it. I would recommend this Dojo to anyone who wants to learn Martial Arts. :D

SMSK is as good as it gets in my opinion. Not too formal, but enforcing enough to develop focus, confidence, and self discipline in kids. SMS owner has a day job and keeps doing it just because of love to the martial art itself. This business approach affects price greatly- you cannot find more affordable price anywhere in area and best part of the deal - no contract. Great family discounts (I could afford to pay for myself and 1-2-3 kids without sweating). Curriculum employs balanced mix of formal katas, self-defense techniques, Judo/JuJutsu trowing and grappling techniques.

I absolutely LOVE this dojo! Sensei Russell teaches traditional martial arts with an emphasis on the when and how to actually use the skills rather than focusing on pretty katas that you have no idea what to do with. He inspires me to be better not just at karate but in all aspects of life.
