My experience was horrible.I spent my first week quarantined in a room with one other person who was detoxing from meth. The very first night his diareia and vomiting left our restroom too unsanitary to use. The staff refused to address the issue and I ended up using my personal towel to clean the restroom two days later. The staff is very rude for the most part. I was told that I would be able to get passes out of the shelter to see my family anytime I needed...that turned out to be a lie. I even witnessed a Case Manager in a physical altercation with a resident. What kind of place is this?!

Clancy I. made a huge change and positive difference in 40 + years he worked at the Midnight Mission coupled with the people who serve in all their capacities. Dropped off some old suits and shoes. It’s been a while since I’ve been DTLA to donate and to serve at their lunch line. They serve 2,500 meals at lunch. Over a million meals a year. And their graduation and holiday services are so powerfully moving.

My husband had the privilege of staying there, and he must say- The Midnight Mission saved his life. He worked with the security team, and had to learn how to talk to people respectively. He still use the lessons learned there in his daily life. Hes Back with me in New Jersey, and he tells people that if you want to be a better person, and if you can get to LA, and seriously want to change your life, there is no doubt that you can do it.Thank you, to each and every person there that showed him that there is a waaaaaaay better life to live. He is forever in your debt. He cant say enough about the Mission. You all are the family he never had. I have to say he was lost and broken when he left nj & for LA for the 3rd time this one without me.they helped him in everyway ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

The Midnight Mission has been there very very long time. Many people have restarted their lives there. And there were many people that just barely make Came To Stay Alive by coming to the midnight mission. I enjoy the fact that they do have the courtyard with people can sleep. And its kind of like a safe place to sleep hopefully wont nothing happen to you while youre in that courtyard. I dont know about the food. I dont know about what programs are offered. But I do know that 12-step meetings are there every day and thats a wonderful thing because people need access to that. In the hope that recovery is truly possible if youre willing to do it. I am grateful for such places as the Midnight Mission. Its not a hole in it but it is some sort of safety net. Where one can come and shower get a change of clothes get some toiletries and get a bite to eat and go to a 12-step meeting. And the area other services that can be accessed if youre willing to talk with the staff of the Midnight Mission that are in the position of case manager.

This place saves lives. Its not comfortable, sweet or fun. Youll work and do a whole bunch of things you REALLY wouldnt normally do and even want to do; youll work, youll have to put up living in close quarters with others and shower in open showers. Youll even be required to feed the homeless on the street at least twice a week. If your really serious youll be required to obtain a 12 step sponsor and attend a 12 step meeting EVERYDAY!!! The result: You become someone with dignity, and much more... results vary for everyone. It all depends on how much work you put into it and how emotionally mentally and spiritually sick you are whenever you arrive.

All for absolutely no cost to those individuals it helps. A great place for a second start in life. They give you all the tools neccessary for a successful transition to live a better life.

Honestly... the food, as expected, is comparable to any county funded institution cuisine, (and, yes- I both regrettably and gratefully- speak from experience) But just the fact that the Midnight Mission trudges on, fighting the seemingly unwinnable fight called homelessness should earn them nothing less than 3 stars in my book. And this is my book (!?). The fish was unidentifiable and slimy however the bones came in handy to pick out what I can only guess was some sort of potatoes au gratin (potatoes gone rotten) that seemed perfectly happy stuck between my teeth. Well leave it at that.

Bathrooms get cleaned very good each day.Shower as much as you want...Buffet all you can eat.Jobs, opportunities here, help you with housing. Club here, they can get you connected to resources quickly then most shelters.Got plenty of programs you can get connected to while here in this shelter. 80% of the people you see are volunteers.Very good with people, very layback and its nice. The Midnight is one of the oldest shelters in Skid Row. They just opened the Bridge program for women a little over a year ago. They still dont have facilities for families or specifically for children. It is mainly there to help the homeless and/or addicted men.The worst part of the place is their outdoor courtyard.Because of various reasons, many homeless gather in the courtyard facilities to sleep, hangout or have access to their outdoor restrooms. Which used to be a total nightmare but on a recent visit I found they had completely revamped it. Its very clean, stocked with the necessities and has an attendant at all times. This has stopped the constant fighting, overt drug use to the point that people would pass out on the toilet with needles sticking out of their arms and the constant overdoses. Incremental improvements are I suppose better than none!

I had the pleasure of serving at the Midnight Mission Thanksgiving of 2009 with a group of friends. I have volunteered at other homeless shelters and this one is unique in that they are privately funded, meaning they fully believe in their mission and goals and are committed to achieving them in the way they feel is best. I learned the most about homelessness in Los Angeles from this shelter, specifically from Mr. Ward. He is such a personable person and is very open about his own past and history with the Midnight Mission. He was always professional in my dealings with him and was always very gracious and humble. This shelter truly has the heart behind what they do and how they help men in need.

You can always get a meal at the midnight mission (except lunch on Sunday). Its not an enjoyable experience, but its consistent and u can line up as many times as u want. They are strict about their times, if lunch is until 12:45, you wont get in if its 12:46. Lately theyve given out Starbucks mercato (salads, sandwiches, yogurt) items to-go. You can also use the bathroom and get a shower...u have to check your bag and the mens showers are an open row of five showerheads...locker room (or prison) style. Get in, get out. Review №94

Theres a lot to say about this place. I am very disappointed. There is a Bed-Bug infestation, while Dust Mites have taken over and all the clients have to have several blankets on their bed to keep from being bit. There is a roach infestation and an over abundance of diseases and drugs in this place. There is a HUGE Theft issue (the majority of the workers who work there, LIVE there, and do a lot of the Thievery.) Its a lot of bad, dark politics that sweep and slither thru this place. If you dare complain, you will be threatened by staff that you will be exited. The staff will straight up call you a liar and have you dismissed out of the program if you dare repeat something they said or done that will cause them to be fired. The biggest issues that I have is how these people treat these homeless people that they are suppose to be helping. They cuss at them, yell at them, manipulate them and keep them dummied down and in the dark.. I dont like that people are not REALLY being helped.. the program seemingly has been taken over by crooks whose only concern is make it seem like the business is Popping and Thriving when really no one and I mean no one is benefiting from this program layout. The only exception is the fact they give you a bed to sleep in, thats not even clean I might add. Theres leaks everywhere, the plumbing is bad to worse. out of 20 some odd showers only 4-5 of them work. It smells constantly, theres mountains of dust all over the ceiling vents. The dorms where the men sleep is a qauranteen of disease and sickness as the skidrow shelter beds and the program beds are in the same room. Alot of the food is expired and they serve chicken, white rice and beans almost everyday either for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or all 3 in a day, sometimes everyday. Worse then all this, there isnt a working system that paves a way of success for the clients. Everybody wanna be known for donating money, and have they name plastered on the wall, but who does what with that money once donated is the difference between vision or vanity, success or failure, or growth or greed. When I tried to suggest reconstructing the program outline or layout a little to include more discipline, more responsibility, more services, and a customer service oriented atmosphere, I was shunned away and was told by Larry Love and other staff in that circle around me that day thats not going to happen; our program is not written to help grow people and nurture there mental health or teach them anything... we were told not to not give advice or give any information to clients. It was when I started speaking life and destiny, and giving some clients motivation and a focus and to simply leave them words that help them dedicate to themselves in a deeper way, I was despised and told im doing too much and I need to stop talking or its not gonna go well for me here. I was also threatened to be exited out of the program for my spiritual beliefs.
