We used Modern Waste for regular trash pick up for years. When we were in the city of Jackson, they were great! Unfortunately, when we moved and brought service over to our new house in Leoni TWP, service greatly went down hill.Once a month, they would forget to pick up our trash and we would call to remind them. When we would call, customer service was not very friendly and made it seem like it was our fault that their employees failed to do their job. Paying the bill seemed like a chore, as they would send letters that the bill was due, however fail to put the 12 digit account number on the letter, which is the only way you can pay it on the phone system. And they wonder why we were late paying! Unless your able to make a call during normal business hours you werent going to get them on the phone. HELLO, we work during normal business hours. Put the account number on every letter, or have a system in which the account number can be looked up by customers.Regular pick-up cons:They would forget to pick up once a month, as previously mentionedLeave trash in the streetCome at obscene hours- such as 5:30am. This was a disturbance to our household and our neighbors.Customer Service Cons:Not very friendlyPoor systems to pay the billDespite these issues, we tried to make it work with Modern Waste for over a year at the new house. Speaking with my neighbors, they too had the same complaints and fired Modern Waste. We only have 1 neighbor who currently uses them and they will soon not have that account either.Alas enough was enough! We fired Modern Waste and we decided to hire A1 and have been super happy with customer service, performance, systems to easily pay, and cheaper rates. + its a local business.We are currently waiting for Modern Waste to pick up their can and have made 3 calls just this week to them regarding this. :(

I have had modern for 10 years, have always had a pretty good experience until about a month-month and a half ago. There are new drivers and they leave my can in the middle of the driveway. Any boxes Ive stuck in there (pop boxes) they let fall out and dont pick it up so they just lay in my yard until I get home and pick them up. Ive also called 3 times now and requested they pick up a extra bag (which up until these new drivers, wasnt an issue), and I still cant get them to pick one up. We are moving and I was going to, as I have in the last 10 years, take them with, but we will be switching to someone else. Super disappointed to see this company declining

Kim at Modern Waste is rude. she admits that she hates people and doesnt belong working with customers. She has been there for many years and she says that she is not happy and hates her job which means she takes it out on her customers when we really have garbage problems and/or questions. She needs to go or be reprimanded for her customer service.

These trucks are loud on a normal day. But 5am and your ripping up and down my road backing up with loud back up beeper. Ive had modern for years but this is ridiculous.

Just called to get a price for new service. Lady that answered phone was very rude. If this is the voice of your customer service, I can imagine how the rest of the team is. I havent called to get prices from other companies yet but I dont care if its more expensive, I will not use them based on this experience.

My cans end up end the road and they leave garbage in my cans not to mention they have broken several of my cans. Ive called but it dosent change, secretary is rude.I dont know if new drivers are trained on my route or what but they need to teach them how to do there job and have respect for people stuff.

I have had nothing but issues with Modern. Started service 3 weeks ago and have had trash picked up one time. They started me with a Monday route. Then when they drove past my house I called and they moved me to a Friday route. They then picked it up on that Thursday. Because of this I called to confirm that Friday was my day and they confirmed it was, but due to Memorial Day, it would be this Saturday for this week. Then comes Saturday and they picked up trash from people across the street and drove by my house. Going to cancel this useless service on Monday.

Every time I call the office they are rude. They can’t call you back and for some reason no other garbage company’s can service there area.. I hate that I have to give them my money...

I have had Modern Waste for over 20 years and not one problem until 3 weeks ago. They didnt pick up my garbage and when I called the office the girl was very rudeThe next week I called and they said the truck was broke down. This week 7/22/2021 they said truck was behind. Switched from Modern Waste because they pick up trash in my neighborhood too early in the morning. 4:45 am is TOO EARLY!! Called them about it...they dont care. Their dispatcher, a rude woman, told me it wouldnt bother her, and she would probably just sleep right through it.So little consideration for their own customers....

They BROKE the trash can we had, and when we asked for a replacement, they brought out a can about 1/3 less in size and want us to pay the same amount! We could barely make it with what we had, disgusting! Making a consumer complaint to the Michigan Attorney Generals consumer complaint line.

Had the company for 15 years. In the beginning they were quite good no issues. Then yhings changed. They would miss a pickup and Id have to call (it wasnt just me, it was some of my neighbors too).They changed the way they did things which is always inconvenient but not an issue as long as theres good communication, there wasnt.They charging system was using my last credit card ... we didnt realize they the new one wasnt being charged. Had a lot of issues going on our family and just didnt work out.As soon as I became aware of the non-payment I contacted them paid them immediately over the phone I am paid up to the end of june. I asked them as it was my still might pick up day would they come and get my garbage as I have an event happening.They said no Id have to wait till next weekI said Ive been with you for 15 years and Ive never done this obviously theres a problem going on.Good customer relations they could have put me on the list for the next day or the day after or the day after but she told me no I had to wait till next weekon my regular pickup.So I said if that happens I will cancel the service ... shes like, Ill make a note of that.My neighbors and others witness them throwing my cans in the ditch and my lids across the road ... In the yard and a ditch... and weve seen them do it to other homes as well.As a last straw, I cancelled. I called to cancel she said I was paid up till June ... do I want to keep my service until then but my new company is coming tomorrow so I just asked for a refund ... she said no refunds sorry... . But the fact are, if you want to keep a customer... sometimes you have to be flexible especially if that customer doesnt do these type of things for 15 years... I can see if I repeated it or was a problem but Im not.Then I posted on a community website and ask everybody for recommendations for new companies.... and the things I heard about modern .... some were horrific others were just inconvenience, rudeness, missed pickups... Employees coming into a local gas station every day not wearing a mask during a pandemic ... The list went on and on.Aall I can say is, stay far away from this company!

Weve been a few times now and each time they have been professional. Theyre well organized, today was really busy and they kept track of the order in which customers arrived and the order in which we were to unload. They helped unload everyone to keep things moving along.

I had the company for less than 2 months and only once they picked up my trash on the right day. I called to cancel they ask why, I tell them why and they respond saying they have a picture of my trash not being out to be picked up. They then tell me the date and its of course 3 days later then my schedule pickup.

The workers are courteous they help you unload they even help me sweep out my box van when I come there cuz sometimes I bring stuff from work there in the work truck very good place excellent prices hope they keep up the good work and the good prices

We have been customers for years and planned on using them at our new house we purchased as well. The customer service is horrendous if she had provided a name I would have singled her out because both times I have called it is the same voice and it is nothing but rude and refused to help us at all. Switched to Emmons, customer service was very helpful and its cheaper.

Called to give notice on Monday of carpet for my usual Wednesday pick-up. Was told to put trash in 3-foot rolls and tie it up, which I did. They did not pick up, and when I called to ask about it, they did not ever accept responsibility for the oversight and made it seem like a total nuisance for me to ask that they remedy the situation. I gave them the time and date of my call, and they just repeated that they had no record of it. Best answer I got was that MAYBE they could pick it up tomorrow. Otherwise, I had to wait until next week. Customer service representative was so rude. Just a simple apology for the oversight and a prompt remedy to the situation is how this should be handled.

Ive had modern waste for about 10 months and when I first got them they missed picking up my recycling. Well again yesterday they did not pick up my recycling. I called today and they told me the driver said it wasnt out there. I told her it was out there and it is still currently sitting out there. She said well weve had issues with you in the past. I said one time and she said that shes going to have the driver start taking pictures. I said good then Ill have proof hes not doing his job. So rude. Who speaks to people like that.

They do not have a care for anyone’s property, they pick and choose what they pick up, everyone in office is extremely rude

Easy unloading and prices are fairly cheap

Very poor service. They moved to trash billing online, however you may not get an email with the invoice. So when my trash didn’t get picked or anyone else’s on my road, I called and that is when I learned I had missed a payment. So I paid the charges online listed, now I am paid until June. Trash billing is not clear, so watch carefully. The person I spoke to was very nasty, and when I asked why no one had trash pickup on Wednesday, I was told “ well maybe they were late on payment as well” . Where’s the issue, 6 people on the same road? Or trash billing/Modern? Watch your billing with this new system, it has some flaws.

Very unprofessional, unorganized, & just plain rude. Their representatives argue with you on the phone, hang up on you, & threaten you. I am a professional employee & have never been spoken to like these people. They clearly know they are the only service available & use it to their advantage. If you have any other options, I would recommend utilizing them. This place is awful.

I had a miscommunication with this company called and spoke to the owner. He actually listened, and was accommodating, responsive, & timely! He was a real gentleman and I would highly recommend him, and his company!!!

After I went across the weigh scales, I pulled forward and got into a stacked type position awaiting a stall to open.I then managed to back up my utility trailer about 60 ft to get into the stall to empty the trailer by hand. After about a minute a worker caringly greeted me and then proceeded to climb into the trailer with me and started helping unload. Afterwards, he picked up a broom he had and started sweeping out the trailer.... Leaving nothing but a clean trailer. I realize being a senior citizen I was probably working slower than what they would hope person would be able to do but this courteous young man helped make my day with his greetings and caring. Thank you Modern Waste System!And one more thing the load cost me $20 to empty which I was very much appreciative because the week before I had taken a load to a different facility near Jackson that charged me $132 for the same one axle trailer.

This place is way better and cheaper than liberty they charge by the ton 20 bucks minimum on load, the guys even help unload or atleast open the trailer doors

Have had Modern for years with no real issues but this past year I have had to replace my cans every few weeks because the drivers just throw them around causing breakage. I have also stopped replacing the lids to the cans because they end up just being thrown on the ground or disappear completely. I shouldnt have to buy Moderns can just to avoid this, especially when the cans I buy are not cheap. As of the past month, they are also not completely emptying the cans. I see other neighbors have switched service and I will be looking into doing the same.

Had to call them two weeks in a row to pick up trash now here it is an actual holiday and my trash band is full and we called yesterday they come out look at it leave it for and go back about their way Im ready to change trash services

I used to have Republic, but theyve since been absorbed by Modern Waste. When the billing transition was messed up, all it took was a call and everything was fixed quickly (reason for 4 stars instead of 5). They pick up the trash and Ive had no issues with them. Reasonable rate.

Worst service ever with a very rude and condescending office lady! Went 1 whole month were they did not pick up my trash after multiple calls. I was still charged for the whole month. They send the bill to wrong address with wrong name on it as well. I received a letter one day that if I didnt pay they would take my cans. I never received a bill!! Many other choices for service out there. Do not choose this one!!

Not sure when they pickup recycling here in Hillsdale Michigan but its been 4 weeks. My neighbor said they skip right over our house. Its a shame that the container is in the street and we are paying customers but theyre too lazy to press a button and get cardboard into a truck.We had a better deal with Republic. Im going to the city council this week.

Took a FULL truckload here and cost me $15 flat! Its worth the drive. Very nice attendant and even had guys there to help you unload at each bay. Will definitely be returning.

I have an on going problem of the garbage people putting my garbage bin right in front of my mailbox therefore I do not get my mail. I have complained and complained and yet they keep doing it almost every week... Problem is the garbage bin is always set out on the other side of my driveway and they empty it and put it on the other side with the mailboxes because its closer to the neighbors bin.... I am so disappointed in modern waste

I have been with Modern for 3 months now and they have been wonderful. I was a bit hesitant to sign up based on some of the reviews but I am very happy that I did. From the people in the office that answer the phone to the guys on the truck, they have all been wonderful to work with. I am particularly impressed with our truck crew they are the best.

Service is new to area by 2-3months,BUT, every can is damaged on block.Huge gashes in carts, torn lids, ripped off wheel bases.Called, because wanted to assure supervisor damage is not from our handling.They didnt care, told us not to pack cart-- 3 bags average is not a packed cart.Must be nice to throw money away...

I have been a Modern Waste Systems customer for over ten years. I have always been pleased with their service. Today I am witnessing their care for their employees as they have suspended service for the protection of their employees. I would gladly wait for my garbage to be picked up so that the employees can be safe. This act on behalf of their enploempl makes me proud to be a customer.

We have used modern waste for 4 yrs now and never had a problem until last week .they decided to leave 2 bags in my can. I took them to modern they took my bags. the next week they decided to drive right past my house an not pick up my trash. I called and was told they would get it the next day they still have not picked up. So dont waste your time. they are not doing their job and cost more than emmons.

Modern Waste is the contractor for picking up the towns garbage. Once a year the town has a Citywide Cleanup and Modern is contracted to do that also.Well thats simply wonderful except for the fact they have left my stuff untouched and there is also a place right across the street from City Hall that didnt get picked up.I contacted the mayor and suggested the town goes back to our former trash collector. Yea Modern may have had the low bid, but sometimes you get what you pay for.

Have had Modern Waste for my garbage pick up along with using their drop off service. Modern waste is AWESOME, their employees are EXTREMELY pleasant, and helpful. When dumping a trailer full of garbage, their employees jump right up and help get what didnt come out. Modern Waste actually charges you by the pound.

I used modern waste service for several years and was pretty happy with their service. i had paid for my service from october 2019 through december. I then moved to a different location and wanted my service transferred. after calling them several times a week and getting many promises from them i never did get a can so i finally canceled the service and i went with another company. Now for the past couple months ive been trying to collect my refund from them. I called them several times during the week and i get again all kinds of promises its in the mail ill mail it tomorrow excetera excetera i still dont have it. I am very very frustrated in this service

If you’re looking for reliability & great customer service don’t look here. The first time I called I was left on hold for 7 minutes, had to hang up and call back. When you do get thru the girl in dispatch is rude and lacks any customer service skills, she should not be working the front line. As people have stated below she will not let you get a word in & proceeds to talk over you. When you miss my pick up day that’s your mistake and you should go above and beyond to correct that mistake. I will be looking elsewhere for other garbage service; reliability & outstanding customer service are worth paying higher premiums for.

Keep can 3 ft from main road...u.s.12.. You put the can on the road itself. My parent has a form of alzheimers and you cant accomodate not putting a trash can ON US12, so when it tips over from the wind , shes out on 12 fussing with a trash can. I hope the rules of fate, treat you as kind as you have to myself and my mother. You can Suck it.

Consistently misses pick up, they will purposely sling trash on your property and for some reason unable to lift a trash can of moderate weight. If i can lift it with one arm you should be fine but Ive had to call them and have them return to pick up one about 60lbs...like seriously. Lmao

Lately my garbage can is left in the middle of our driveway, lid not put back on and for the last few weeks it’s not entirely empty. This week I drove down my street, I see garbage cans thrown on there side , one was I a bush .

Liked the service at first, the guy we had picking up was great, he was a really helpful and polite. But the people in the office lack communication and customer service skills. They should be taught how to get their info straight between employees, and not tell the customer they are wrong. Needless to say Ive had a dumpster full of dirty diapers for over a week and its 80° outside, thanks Modern Waste.

Consistently missed my pickup (about once a month). Cancelled service 9/2017. They still havent picked up their trash can. When I called to tell them its been 3 months since I cancelled and they still havent picked up their trash can, they were rude and acted like it was my fault.Signed up with Granger and its been smooth ever since.

The customer service people are very very rude. I called trying to explain that I have only one trash can. Girl on the phone would barely let me get a word in edge wise. Kept asking for my payment info every time I tried to tell her what the letter said. Then when I got rude back she says I dont know why you need to raise your voice with me Cause youre an idiot who wont let the CUSTOMER speak for 30 seconds. Now waiting for a phone call from her boss Chuck. Guess they dont want or need my business.Oh and they have tons of issues with there auto pay system. I figured out that my trash didnt get picked up one week. When I called once again got the same rude customer service rep who acted like it was my fault there computer system didnt take my money. But guess its my fault they didnt call me or email me or leave a note for me.So then I had to sit on three weeks of trash because it was my fault that it takes them a week to pul from my back account.

Great service! They did me a huge favor over the holidays by picking up my garbage when I had forgotten to put it out on the right days. Online payment, recycling pickup and great staff. I highly recommend using Modern Waste Systems.

My pick up day is Wednesday...I called and was told if it lands on a holiday, which it did, then it would be picked up following day. Here it is Saturday and still not picked up! No way to reach anyone because message box is full. I have been a customer for years and always paid on time. This is not the first time Ive been forgotten.

1st time taking an enclosed pickup truck packed full of non-food items, gal at the weigh station explain to me what to do, I backed up to stall number three, two guys came and completely emptied the pickup for me.Only cost me $12.*** Super impressed with this side of their service.

I have been with Modern for 10 years, and men out on the route are great. I highly recommend them, as they do great work. If a problem does occur, just a phone call to the office gets it resolved.

Garbage can left across the road, garbage left on ground, they started taking pictures after we called to complain. Then when I called to ask about it was laughed at and called a liar and the owner Bill hung up on me. What a great way to run a buisness.

Bought a new house in the Jackson area and signed up for trash service with Modern Waste. They offer a 65 gallon cart with weekly pickup for the same price that Emmons charges for a 40 gallon cart.Brought a load of bulk trash to the facility in Napoleon and had a great experience. They were priced very fair to dump and had help in the tipping area.

Worst garbage service EVER. I have every other week service. Driver misses pickup. I am told it was not my week, but they will come pick it up.The facts are I have my service marked on a calendar. It was my week for service, no one came and I am still waiting for my pickup. I HATE BEING LIED TO!

Absolutely horrible place to do business with call to voice concern with why over maltipmu weeks trash isnt picked up or its all over the ground after pick up or container is left in neighbors yard then we get drivers taking pictures of our house an cars an we get rude staff an then a call from the owner county commissioner district 4 Phil duckham who starts blaming us for what is going on the curses an is very rude then when the conversation doesnt go his way he hangs up an then calls back 5 min later to yell at you some more well done what a horrible company....

I agree with the previous reviewer. Modern waste upgraded their online billing in may and I followed their instruction to update my info, but for three months their system would still not auto-bill me even though i was enrolled in the service. Every time I called they blamed me for the problem. I pay all my bills through auto-pay, and believe it is their inability to troubleshoot a problem that is to blame. Look elsewhere.

I used to love modern waste, not sure if I have a new garbage man or what but they pick and choose what they want to take, barely ever actually dump the garbage can, just take bags out. Looking to switch !
