This is my second time using The Computing Center. Both times were positive. For this last visit they diagnosed and repaired my MBP within 3 business days (the parts came quickly). They were aware of the Apple repair program for the MBP keyboard and battery issue and took care of it through Apple. I am very happy to have a functional laptop again, thank you TCC!
Took my laptop in to get it repaired. An initial diagnostic was done for $70 ( will be credit if you choose to use them to fix laptop). Cooling fan was broken. Fan and service from them were very expensive. I opted to purchase my own fan off of eBay for 20% of their price. Took fan back to have them complete the install. Quick turn around. Good service but very expensive.UPDATE: After closely inspecting my laptop, I noticed a couple mistakes/ broken parts. The back cover was not secure correctly (see attached pics). Also, while attempting to attach the back cover, it seems like the area to the right of the fan was cracked. My ultrabook is much more fragile than standard laptops. I have edited my rating from 3 stars to 1 star due to lack of care taken with my laptop.I would not recommend this place to anyone. As the other reviews have mentioned, youre better off going somewhere else. Collegetown has many more reliable and cheaper locations.
Incredible, excellent service and friendly, knowledgeable staff. I went to the computing center twice, first because my mac speakers were making a crackling sound and second because my battery needed to be replaced. For both times, the Computing Center staff was very helpful and amicable. I highly recommend this place if you have issues with your laptop.
I have worked with The Computing Center for almost 25 years. They always go out of their way to assist with purchasing equipment, servicing equipment and getting consumable supplies. They even helped set us up to receive great prices via Government purchasing programs.Sometimes, repairs tend to take longer than ideal, but this is always an issue of them getting parts from the manufacturers. If they cant get the parts in a timely manner, they cant repair the device quickly. Understanding this, goes a long way.I have contacted them many of times over the years with quick questions and they offer quick hints and advice that allow me to figure issues out without any repair costs.I appreciate them all and look forward to many more years of doing business with them.
My Macbooks battery was dead and I went the The Cornell Store and they told me they would send it to The Computing Center. I just decided to cut out the middle man and go to The Computing Center myself.Sara, the lady at the front desk, was very friendly and helpful getting me signed in. Rose, who I think is in charge, communicated with me throughout my repair. She let me know what was going on and how much it would cost and got back to me very quickly when I emailed her. I even got to talk to the technician when I picked it up because I had some questions. I dont remember her name, but she was really friendly and made sure I understood everything she was telling me.The turnaround was really quick, which is really important for me as a student. I also loved that there were so many women working there. I would 100% recommend going here to get your Mac fixed.
The gist - Pros: They tried to save me money on repairs, were friendly, and fair when they gave me a full refund on an expensive repair after my computer still didnt work properly. Cons: After 3 trips back and more than 2 months my computer still didnt work properly. I suspect they dont work on many iMacs based on conversations and how much they leaned on Apple for diagnosis and guidance.I have a 2 year old iMac that stopped working all of a sudden one day. The Cornell Tech store where I purchased it recommended the Computing Center for repair. The first time I took it in (June 2017) they diagnosed a power capacity failure and said Apple told them to replace the Logic Board at the same time. But within a week they replaced the Power Capacitor, tested it, and it seemed good to go! Sweet! They saved me several hundred dollars! But I take it home and it keeps shutting down at random times, always immediately preceded by 3 rapid beeps, and it wont come out of sleep. A quick search says this is a RAM problem. I do various PRAM resets, etc, which I didnt realize didnt apply to my model. Nothing helped. So I take it back a second time, they re-seat the RAM, test it, and send it home within a few days. Only the same problem continues. So, I go back a third time, and ask for new RAM because the 3 beeps indicate a RAM problem, but they say it *has* to be a problem with the logic board (which the RAM plugs into). So I leave it there and have to call them after I havent heard anything for 2 weeks (different from previous repairs). They say they got a new logic board from Apple, but it was DOA, so they were waiting on a second, as well as some other parts. The following week I talk directly to the tech who kept it for observation for an extra day this time and he has been working with Apple, doing exactly what they say over the phone. He had no problems. So I pick it up after 2 and a half weeks. Guess what? Same problem continues!! Plus I also have an issue where my screen scrambles during start up and then unscrambles once fully started (new from previous repairs). This is now the end of August. I havent had a properly functioning computer in 2 months. So I take it back to them a final time. Ive been understanding until now, but Im likely visibly upset at this point when I walk back in with my huge computer. They know me by now. The owner comes out, shrugs, tells me there is nothing else to replace in the computer. She says its likely where Im plugging it in at home, which would be a fair guess, except over the summer Ive moved my living room around and it plugs into a new power strip, a different outlet, and an altogether different breaker. I am furious at this point but trying to keep my cool when I tell her I dont think I should have to pay over $700 for a computer that doesnt work properly. I would like my old logic board back. Not possible because it was returned to Apple. To their credit they give me a full refund. As theyre processing the refund I ask if they ever replaced the RAM like I asked? No, she says, they tested it in another computer and it was fine, they replaced the Logic Board that the RAM plugs into. Im baffled by this, and not even sure if shes telling the truth when she says they tested it in another computer. Keep in mind, a logic board costs many hundreds of dollars while the replacement RAM would have cost maybe $60? Im baffled as to why they wouldnt have replaced the RAM when the problem pointed to RAM originally and was so sporadic as to not necessarily be reproduced on command. At this point I need to make a trip to the Apple store in Syracuse, but dont have time for the trip. Im using my work computer at home. I still suspect it is a problem with the original RAM.Moral of the story? Always buy Apple Care!!!
Amazing people and customer service!! Had work done on my old computer and bought all my new office products through them they helped me out in every aspect in setting up the softwear and getting the right fit for my computer and programs to helping me get it set up ill never go to another computer tech place for anything again!! Only place in central ny to go!!
I brought my laptop in for them to fix. They took it and gave it back a few days later, telling me that a few parts were broken that they couldnt find. They then charged me a diagnostic fee.I then took it to another place which diagnosed my laptop for free, and I found out the diagnosis I was given by The Computing Center included more parts than was actually broken. The other place was also able to source the parts actually broken in a matter of a few days. I would not recommend this place to anyone; there are better options close by.
My service experience here was absolutely horrible! If I could give zero stars, I would. I was forced to have my computer service by them since I have Safeware Insurance. The process to get my computer repaired has been a long and strenuous process. The lack of communication between the Syracuse University Bookstore and The Comptuing Center was non-existent. I visited the bookstore several times to check the status of my computer almost every time they were unaware. It wasn’t until a nice lady in the tech center called the The Computing Center to check the status of my computer did I hear from them, after being told by several staff members that they would contact me with information concerning my computer. I was informed by the bookstore, who spoke to Rose Christofferson that my computer wasn’t receptive to the two battery replacements they attempted to use to replace my battery in my macbook. However, the macbook’s motherboard was damaged, so they sent it to Apple. A month has gone by and I still haven’t received my computer and while I did attempt to contact Rose Christofferson at The Computing Center, she never emailed me about the status of my computer as she stated that she would. Today, I contacted Apple and was informed that my case has been closed and the macbook has been shipped. THANK GOD!While the fault isn’t completely on them, they were absolutely useless in communicating with me about my computer. As a student, I have several assignments that are due requiring my computer and I am currently applying to law schools which just makes this situation all the more troublesome. I just hope they can work on their customer service and client management for the next. Honestly, it would just be best that you find another repair service or take your computer straight to Apple instead of The Computing Center.
Very competent and professional
Took them over a month for them to repair my laptop. Terrible communication and poor customer service. Save yourself the trouble and find another tech repair option.
Excellent service.
