U-Haul as an overall company deserves 0 stars - their business model, website, self-pick up service (Truck Share 24/7), and customer service department are all a huge scam. Read through the U-Haul reviews on trustpilot.com and other websites and youll see that literally hundreds of people across the US have the same story as us - reserving a truck weeks in advance at a Neighborhood Dealer only to arrive to no truck, a non-functional website, no one to talk to, and 45+ minutes on hold with customer service with no answer.So why three stars? Only because Isaiah at the Huber Heights location is a 5-star employee who just happens to work for a terrible company. We finally got a truck 4 HOURS AND 40 MINUTES after our original reservation and 18 miles away. But the fact that we got a truck AT ALL is due to Isaiah and Isaiah only.

I have had nothing but issues with this store for months. The general manager was supposed to contact me MULTIPLE times, she was sent emails and texts and everything from higher ups to call or email me and she never did. Every time I would call the store to talk to her no one answered and it would go to customer service. I finally had enough and moved my stuff out today to find spiders, roaches, and other bugs in both my units (which I did not have bugs when I moved my stuff in) needless to same Im infuriated and will not be storing my stuff there or at any u-haul again!

They never answer their phone. Called twice to update my payment card and I’ve been on hold for an hour and the next 40 mins. I went in and literally watched them not answer the phone. Just sits there while the phone rings.

Was told that built in frame mounting threads were too rusted to insert bolts to mount the hitch. I asked for the hitch to be loaded in the back and Id install it myself. Literally mounted in 10 minutes, and all 6 bolts went in with fingers ZERO RUST on 3 year old Honda Pilot. Avoid Huber Heights (Dayton, Ohio) at all costs, they never even tried to install my $200 hitch. Only u-haul store Ive ever had a bad experience in 25 years! There are several other companies in the area that would have been much better, just skip this place!(THIS REVIEW IS ONLY IN REGARDS TO TOW HITCH INSTALLATION)

Be sure to take a picture of the odometer before you pick up the U-Haul and when you drop it off. I was overcharged for miles that I did NOT drive. I estimated driving 40 miles at the most and they charged me for 102 miles and refused to investigate the issue further. I went up there and they said they would call me and they never did. So please please be sure to take pictures and keep ALL receipts! If you can, just go to another location!!

Terrible service. Made an appointment for a Tuesday 10:30 time to install a 2 hitch on my Honda. I had traveled 50 minutes away from this location to have this work done. After arriving several minutes before the scheduled time I was met at the door by an employee telling me I would have to reschedule because the employee who installs my hitch had to go to the hospital. I asked why no one called me to let me know about this. The lady at the desk asked me if she had my phone number and after I gave it to her, she said yes, there it is. I rescheduled to have the work done the next day at 12:00 noon and asked her to call me if they couldnt do the work Wednesday. Wednesday morning I thought it best to call them myself to determine if the installer was present that day, and after being on hold for close to twenty minutes, my call was transferred to corporate. I told this lady my concerns and she said she would call the location and have the manager text me immediately for an answer. 45 minutes later, I received a call from the U-haul location and was informed the hitch I was to have installed, wasnt even available at this location. if I still wanted it installed, i would have to travel to Richmond Indiana because they were the only one who had one within 50 miles of this Huber Heights location. Needless to say, Im going elsewhere.

Great selection of rental vehicles, clean office, clean rental van. The only reason I didnt give 5 stars is the fact there was only a single employee assisting customers when we were there this weekend. Although he did his best, it took 40 minutes to get serviced.

Poor customer service, I made an appt for Saturday. Saturday morning I was called, told no one would be in to do it. I rescheduled for Wednesday, my husband drove bout about hour to get there, waited 20 mins, to be told that they don’t have the wire harness I paid extra to have, That we would need to go to Cincinnati another hour away after making a new appt. currently I only need the hitch. I don’t need the wire harness at the moment for what I am going to be hauling. My husband tried to get them to just install the hitch and they refused. Then said it would be 8-10 days before getting money back.The staff was entirely rude threw this whole process!

SCAM ARTISTS!!!! Tried to charge me a gallon and a half for gas when I only went 8 miles! Although they refunded my money for the gas, I had to drive back up there and not one person apologized. They are hoping that you dont look at your bill or wont bother to dispute the extra charges to make extra money. They just lost approx $3,000 as I am moving to Vegas and need a large truck. Oh well....

Extremely Rude Manager. As a long-term customer of almost 2 years, paying $100+/month I thought a simple complain could be resolved. No, I was treated with disrespect and I felt genuinely uncomfortable and not wanted. The manager, Samantha, told me word-for-word Im too busy, I shouldnt even be working right now Ive got kids at home to get to anyways and youre holding me up. Wow. A manager telling a customer they cant stay a few minutes extra to address a serious issue? Broken glass? Thats just irresponsible to start with, let alone against policy. She refused to give me her supervisors phone #, told me to call corporate to get it, and they were shocked she didnt directly give me the #.Two days later when I went back to ask why, the manager THREATENED TO EVICT ME AND CALL THE POLICE TO REMOVE ME. Simply due to me trying to ask her for a moment of her time, just to show her all the broken glass around where people park.Poorly managed. Some staff is great.Definitely needs a new manager as reviews dating 2 years+ back, at the same location, say the same thing bad management.Management Has Not addressed any issues after 2+ weeks.Facility has Cockroaches & Birds that poop everywhere, inside units and onto storage items.Dont rent here.

A guy named Alec helped me out tremendously. He understood why I was an hour late, didn’t charge me extra, and got me in and out as fast as he could. Great experience and great service from him. I recommend using this UHaul on Brandt Pike.

Absolutely the worst customer service. I paid 3 weeks in advance for a hitch to be installed only for my appointment to be canceled the day of service. I have tried calling back to reschedule multiple times, and have spent hours on hold, only to have my call disconnected each time. Dont waist your time or your money.

People were very nice friendly and fairly fast. When I was there I notice they all kind of seem to be kind a younger as well. Might be a little bit lacking in experience as far as for U hauls? Also had propane tanks filled did a good job still questioning experience? One young girl was teach another young girl but thats all my way youre going theyre going to learn .

Absolutely fantastic service. Very friendly staff all the way around. Was getting hitch installed so i waited a few hours in the lobby. Observed how staff interacted with customers walking in and on the phone. The lady who answered a customer complaint was very professional very calm she did a great job on that escalated call, i would have been getting annoyed because the caller compained he didnt get the upgrade but did get exactly what he reserved. Man oh man, the facility is super nice, clean, and the staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. They installed a hitch on my SUV, and the quality of work was great. I was skeptical of having someone other than the dealership do it, but they really did do a great job. Hassle-free returns, too!

I moved my mom from TX to OH in January and we had to use 2 pods, one from her house, one from her assisted living facility. Bonnie was so helpful with organizing the timing of deliveries. I can’t tell you how thankful I am for the compassion and great communication from this place during such a stressful time like moving an elderly parent.

They did my tow bar on my van. The left turn signal didn’t work on my trailer. Took it back, they said it worked. I bought a new trailer. Still doesn’t work. The trailer works on my dad’s truck. Go somewhere else. I carry horses, I don’t feel safe and this was brand new.

Truck was ready on time. I was charged for the appropriate miles. I dropped the key off in the drop box early the next morning 24 hours from pickup and was not checked in until hours later and was still only charged for one day as I think I should. Dont expect any discounts from this dealer. The big Uhaul off 35 near 675 beat Budgets prices.I took off three stars for fraud. I reserved the truck on site. Then I go to pick up and there is an extra $1 environmental fee I never agreed to. Oh so most people wont fight it the day of their move or go somewhere else when time is very important; its just a dollar. I tried to contact some corporate office and never got a response. Its not worth it over a dollar, so Im just leaving a review. I imagine that dollar a day per customer adds up to billions for Uhaul to pay for their landscaping, hazardous waste disposal, or whatever. So maybe they want to donate to something they think is a good cause or pay THEIR bills, therefore they black mail other people to pay it.

This u-haul facility doesnt take Pnc bank smart access cards. Which have worked everywhere else Ive ever used one. I sat at the desk for over twenty minutes while this lady tediously poked my name into the computer, it was obvious she had no idea what she was doing.They have the best selection around for vehicles but the service is very bad.

Had a scheduled 8 am pick up and I was running behind so I called and scheduled it for 845 and made it at 830 to the pick up location. And doesnt even open until 9am. So I had my scheduled help waiting even longer than expected. Truck was not ready or cleaned. Not sure how there scheduling works but it needs improvement.

Horribly ran. The neighbor called the police saying that the uhaul was in their way so instead of uhaul calling me to move it they took it back. Was not allowed to drive it and was forced to purchase a storage unit at their location because I was not allowed to drive the truck to the storage unit of my choice. The workers are great. The manager is terrible. Asked to speak to the manager but instead she said she was not going to speak to me, like management should when there’s an issue, and relayed her message through her employees. Will never use this company again.

After a pleasant call from Uhaul corporate; all is well and issues resolve amicably. Thank you.1) I called the Uhual location nearest to my needs I am switched to a call center to make a reservaion. The person to whom I spoke was knowledgeable but a critical miscommunication must have been made.2) At the time of puck up, The clerk assisting me was a short, stocky woman with a thin brown ponytail and the title “OWNER” emblazoned on her name tag. She was clearly the boss around there but despite her authoritative tone and demeanor she claimed to have no power to change the contract and intimated that I would have to take it or leave it. I, being stuck in the tough spot of having a crew ready but now possibly no truck, and needing desperately to move a piano and table that very day, I took the 1- day rental under protest tha this was not what I ordered. I will say that this “owner” woman was not vulgar or overtly rude but she was very officious and intensely unhelpful. She refused to even to try to satisfy me even despite when an obvious alternate solution was presented to her. She simply and repeatedly appealed to a strict “U-Haul system” and stated that she has “no control” (or power) to make changes once it was booked. Frankly, she did not seem at all concerned that I was now to be very inconvenienced nor did she make any attempt to resolve the matter in any other way.3) Now, due to the error/miscommunication during booking and this wooden, intractable “owner”, I was forced to accelerate the timetable of my job and forgo some of what I’d planned to accomplish.4) After all of this, I still managed to get the bulk of the work done almost an entire day early but ended up being 52 minutes late to drop off the truck.4a) Note: the truck still returned clean and refueled despite my hurry.4b) Note: I even tried several times to call the rental center to no avail. Customers need to be able to call into the shop directly with issues/problems or questions. The call center staff are not well equipped to handle issues on the ground as they arise.5) When finally I do enter the store to drop off the key, I try explaining all of the above but this same “owner” manager was there and she was very unforgiving. She again claimed to have “no control over the U-Haul system and that even 1 minute past the scheduled drop off time would trigger an AUTOMATIC Charge to cover an entire extra day AND a $100 late return penalty!”6) I appealed her decision and tried to get her to see my point of view. I told her I realized that it was not her fault that the call center mixed up the booking but that it was not my fault either. I then asked her again for some leniency due to the mix up in booking. At this she became even more obstinate and made no attempt to mollify my frustration nor to offer any other option or recourse.7) To this I stated that if I am going to be charged for the extra day then I would simply use the the truck to finish my job and that I would see her on the next day. At this point she raised her voice and in a commanding tone informed me in no uncertain terms that if I did take the truck, she would “invalidate the contract and call the police on me for stealing it!”8) At this point I knew there would be no reasonable resolution to this disagreement so I threw the key onto the counter and stormed out, clearly very upset.7) To top this whole ordeal off, as I am already leaving (WITHOUT a truck to use and WITH fees and penalties pending) this so called “owner” woman loudly proclaims for all in the store to hear “get out and I’m going to make sure you never rent from U-Haul again!”My Final Thought: With this person running the show down there in Huber Heights, Ohio, there are going to be a LOT of people who will “never rent from U-Haul again!”

I decided to relocate from Ohio to Orlando, Florida during the week of May 30th. The following story recounts my experience with the Uhaul in Huber Heights located on 6550 Brandt Pike in Huber Heights. I chose the company as means to haul one bedroom including a closet. I called the customer service line to set up the installation of the trailer. I was notified upon arrival for the installation of the trailer, by Mrs. Samantha Hull that their would be an additional charge (almost $200) to install the electrical to properly run the trailer lights. I made no real complaint at the time about the additional charge that was not quoted. I discussed with Mrs. Hull the rental of the trailer in person during the installation of the trailer hitch. When asked how many containers I would be hauling, I told Mrs. Hull that I would be hauling 15 sixty-six quart plastic boxes. Mrs. Hull proceeded to reserve a 6 foot by 12 foot trailer for me. It would go would without saying that the trailer was overkill for the amount of boxes, as I had barely covered the bottom of the trailer. After a trip that was constantly at 55 mph due to the excessive size of the trailer and the subsequent additional charges during installation, I decide to voice my concerns to the location. Here is my true complaint as the vehicle has not seemed to run correctly since. All initial inquiries fell on what could politely be deaf ears. I decided to reach out to Uhauls customer support, and after waiting a week I called again only to be told by the corporate call center that my first call had never been logged in as a complaint. I completed a second complaint in which Mrs. Hull returned another call. I discussed all issue with her, she stated she would look into the issues. After more than another week had pasted, I called corporate as I felt I was not getting any answers. I received Mr. Quinns reference as the Corporate Marketing Director, and was told he would help to prompted a response. I received a call from Mrs. Hull a day or two later in which I was informed that the call center informed me that there could be the additional charge. Mrs. Hull stated this was documented through the initial call being recorded, and I was not offered access to the recording. Mrs. Hull also stated that I also received the size of the trailer through a customer service call with their call center (which I believe to be blatantly inaccurate), and it was the only trailer they had available (which I believe she could have helped look for other dealers in the area as I am sure they are not then only dealer in the Dayton, Ohio area if this was an issue). My major complaint is not so much with the equipment but the unethical nature of their initial approach, and the blatant disregard for their customers after the sale and use of their products. I believe that a better sales approach could have been used, however, I believe this location did all they could to increase their sales to the amount of $400 and possibly more. I also believe the corporate level does not care one bit as to my complaints as all locations are run by individual franchise owners, even though the corporate name is clearly on the products. The only thing I can recommend is use another company, or at least use a different location as they will focus more on their needs for profits above an honest sales approach.
