This is my second year using Michael Plaks. It has been an excruciating and lengthy process to get this years return filed, which I hope to do soon (this being September). So many missed deadlines, mis-communications, having to submit items more than once. I seem to have fallen through the cracks, and have very little confidence that this firm did a thorough job. The final insult is their refusal to meet with me to review the return, if nothing more than to assure me that they did a good job. I hoped that this would be a good, enduring relationship, but their low regard for my business and best interest will force me to look elsewhere for CPA assistance in the future.

I have been using Michael Plaks for my taxes for ten years. Over this time I have developed an ever increasing understanding of just how excellent he really is.Recently while doing my taxes we both had quite a shock. The Alternate Minimum Tax (AMT) said I owed thousands of extra dollars. When Michael told me about this he also told me something just did not look right with regard to the AMT numbers. Michael felt that in this case there was a chance that he could fix the problem. However this would take several hours of research at his hourly rate.In summary, Michael gave me three choices. I could do hours and hours of research myself, Michael could do the research, or I could just pay the extra thousands of AMT taxes.After Michael answered a few question I saw my choices as pay Michael and no AMT taxes, pay Michael and pay the AMT taxes, or just pay the AMT taxesI decided to pay Michael. After all, I would much rather pay Michael than pay taxes. And if worst came to worst and I had to pay both, I would still feel better about it than just rolling over and meekly paying the extra money.The story has a happy ending. Michael did the research, redid the AMT calculations, and I owed no AMT taxes.Over time Michael has continuously demonstrated his technical competence.
