I recently had my Viking 8-person life raft serviced and recertified by Fire Protection Services in Houston, Texas. They were the closest Viking authorized service center to League City, Texas. My primary contact was with Anthony Rodriguez. I was very pleased with the service Anthony and the FPS team provided. They were always available to answer any and all questions. Thanks!

FPS HOUSTON NEEDS TO BE SHUT DOWN, as well as heavy fines and possibly even criminal charges levied against them.I work for a marine safety company in the northeast. I work on an hourly wage with no commission, and I have no stake/stock in the company I work for. I have no interest in exposing and shaming FPS Houston except that I value human life—unlike them.I have been a Life Raft Technician for 2 and 1/2 years. All life rafts in service on commercial vessels are legally required to be serviced and inspected annually, like getting your car inspected at the DMV. I am familiar with FPS’s work. This is because, like having your car inspected at the DMV, you may not have it done at the same location every year; perhaps a different location has a shorter wait, or is closer to your new job, etc. I have serviced dozens of life rafts the year after they had been serviced by FPS. I know they were last serviced by FPS Houston because the paperwork on them says so. To say they do a piss-poor job is like saying murder is a nuisance. They don’t replace items that are past their expiration date. That is bad enough in and of itself, but probably no one will die if a food ration meant to last five years is a few months past it’s expiration date. What is truly, disgustingly, disgracefully bad about FPS Houston is that they also mail it in with the things that are crucial, the things that lives depend on. I’ve thought about posting a review like this before, and today was the last straw: today, I saw something that ABSOLUTELY would have resulted in loss of life had the raft been deployed in an emergency situation. To explain: rafts inflate via a hose attached to a steel cylinder, a cylinder which is filled with compressed CO2 and nitrogen. Of course, without air, a raft won’t float. Today in the shop where I work, we got in a 25-man raft with a hose so damaged and corroded that it had a massive hole in it and was barely attached to the cylinder anymore. It’s the kind of damage that, I can say from experience, did NOT occur over the course of the last year since it was serviced by FPS; the hose was too rusted, and if the raft had simply been exposed to the elements somehow, the whole raft would been in bad shape, not just the hose. That hose would not have served it’s purpose of filling the raft with air so it could float. That raft would have sank like a stone had it been deployed, and there would have been 25 lost souls. This is the first time I’ve personally seen something so blatantly awful from them, but I’ve stories from older guys I work with about other rafts FPS has done like that, and I can say that, from the dozens of FPS-serviced rafts I’ve seen, not ONE was done correctly according to the manual and Coast Guard regulations. Servicing life rafts ain’t like flipping burgers, there’s too much on the line to mail it in like FPS does. DO NOT, under any circumstances, give these callous, heartless people you’re business, both because they do not deserve it, and because you can’t trust ANY equipment they service to save your life if you need it to.PS my boss promised to address the issue of the damaged hose through the proper channels. If he doesn’t do so soon, or if he soft-pedals the issue, I’m going to call the Coast Guard to report FPS Houston. It’s that serious.
