I had forgotten about Altex until today; hadnt shopped there in years. With the nearby Frys gone and a server with a failed disk, I had to do some fast shopping. Altex popped up in my web search, they had the drives that I needed, I placed the online order, and drove to the store. The order was ready when I arrived. The staff was friendly and helpful and the store is well stocked and has a more industrial flavor rather than raw consumerism such as Frys or Microcenter. Ill be starting my purchase searches at Altex in the future. Very satisfied.

Went to get a simple coax cable repair. $4 for the new tip (no problem). $15 to crip it!! $15 for a 1 minute job? They told me I could buy A $60 tool and do it myself. No worries. I took my business to Amazon and got a new cable for $20.

Just visited this place with my hubby, its okay.They have parts for computers. And they make them. Kevin walked through the price quote for my hubbys gaming computer. He was super helpful and very friendly. As everyone in there was.While my hubby got his geek on I sat back and watched Zootopia playing on one-of-a-kind the computers.Overall I say go check them out if you have a chance. And look for monthly specials, for all your computer needs.

They have all your computer part needs, but Ive never met a group of unfriendly workers as this place. Ive been there maybe 10 times and theyre always rude. ... if theyre so unhappy there , why dont they go work somewhere else? Just asking.

This place has much better prices and more selection than home Depot for many of the tools I need for my work. Beyond that, they also have great products for building or upgrading computers. 5/5.

I was excited on the way to altex hoping to not only purchase some components I need for a project, but also to get the chance to get insight and advice from professionals in the field as well. I have a passion for IT and spend a lot of my free time on different projects. Whenever I got to the store I was feeling like a kid in a candy store. However, I was very quickly made to feel as if I was a nuisance for asking basic questions and trying to get help from people that Im certain were only disregarding me because I looked disheveled since I had been working and sweating all day before. I did encounter some employees that didnt make me feel like I wasnt human filth, but the way I was made to feel ruined something I was very excited for. I will come back because I wont allow a bad experience to deter me from my passion. The bad taste, though, will linger.

The staff is incredibly helpful. Ive walked in with a vague idea of what Im trying to do and they immediately get you set up with everything I need and nothing I dont. Ive had questions about seemingly specific products and these guys told me everything I needed to know.This is the place I go for all my tools and supplies for my job. Not the friendliest staff and a nightmare to get to -- but they have what you need at reasonable prices. Good stock of quality items. And, although the staff doesnt rate high on personality, they are by no means, rude in any way and are willing to help. In addition, 290 has always been hell. Even before all the new construction.

Great place for various computer supplies

Ive known about this place for years. Possibly the best place that I know of to come to if you have computer problems, or need a new system or parts. Very attentive and knowledgeable staff that have always given excellent service and high quality of work. If youre thinking of going to Best Buy or Frys, skip those two and come here instead.

It is quite a drive for me to go there, so I save up my projects. Every time the service has been great. The staff will offer knowledgeable help find the products you need or let you walk around and browse if you want. There are no box pushers here.

Considering I built my system from Altex from the ground up dont believe the lack of upgrade parts review. Altex is not a huge bulk store like Frys or MicroCenter. These guys will bend over backwards to help you figure out what parts you need and what kind of budget youre working with to get you up and running. Highly recommended.

I love Altex. This is the place for anyone thinking I wish Radio Shack was still around but not the 2000s Radio Shack, more like back when they were good.Altex hase something for almost all of my intests. Easy to find what you need, difficult to leave without more then you came for.

Not only is everyone very helpful, they just happen to have everything I need whenever Im in a pinch. They had my Raspberry Pi, and on my more recent visit I found everything I need to repair my drone. They even had iFixit brand repair tools! That made my day. So, to sum it up: a good store that has all of my tech needs close to home.

This store is super convenient when you need to buy more than a Best Buy or Fry’s can offer and you don’t have time to order online.The staff was very friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, and in good moods (that’s not always the case at some stores). The supply was plentiful. They had plenty of variety in stock, and I was able to purchase everything I needed for a project I’m working on. Ended up buying some stuff I didn’t exactly need but definitely wanted.I highly recommend Altex for your same day IT project needs. They also provide bulk services for the larger more thoroughly planned initiatives. They have several options at all price ranges for things like power cables, network cables, server/telecom rack equipment, etc.

Convenient, but not as many choices as some competitors. Prices may not be the lowest around either. But they will do their best to get what you need.

Great selection of hard to find computer and electronic equipment. They have a friendly and knowledgeable staff. Their prices on cables and connectors are exhorbatent. Most recently I needed several DVI to HDMI connectors. Their price was $12.99 for 1. I ended up buying them on Amazon for $3.00 a piece including same day delivery.

I would never shop at this store again. Their prices are ridiculous. Their Merchandiser or store managers do not pay attention to current MSRP. If you are wanting to build a computer, please stay from Altex. You will get ripped off. I attached a picture from Altexs website. I am writing this review June 26, 2019. In two weeks, Ryzen 3000 series releases, and these AMD 1000 series chips are still priced at their original 2017 MSRP. Its worse, when you take a closer look, you will see that the Ryzen 7 1700X is priced higher than the new Ryzen 7 2700X. How is that possible? What world does Altex live in. When you examine sites like Newegg.com, these same chips are priced more aligned with AMDs current MSRP. Ryzen 7 2700 x = $294 and Ryzen 7 1700x = $166.Worse, they do not price match. When you bring it up to their staff, they tell you that their prices are firm. I understand, its hard being a local computer store. They are a local Texas Chain, and I am a proud Texan. I lived in San Antonio while in College and I discovered their store off of HW. 1960. I loved them in 2010, but it is 2019 and they are not staying competitive and they are ripping their customers off.I would love a response from Altex, but I will not shop at this store often. The only reason why I may is because they carry computer cases from my favorite case manufacturer, Phanteks. But when I need to purchase hardware, I go to Micro Center. I am sorry, Altex, that I have to write a negaitve review for a Texas Chain. #R.I.P.TexasownedWhat-A-burger
