My family of four had a fantastic kayak tour with Melissa. Based on the winds and tides, she chose a spectacular route with a wonderful variety of sights that was just the right level of exertion for us. See the photos for the amazing lunch spot she selected. Docking at and poking around the idyllic Otter Cove Resort was also a worthy experience in itself.

Same boat, New Captain. Late season fishing was successful in spite of stacked odds. I feel like the addition of a deck hand makes trolling for salmon less of a freak show. Overall, a good team on board makes the experience better.

10/10, I would definitely recommend and book a charter with them again! Everything was smooth and professional. We loved Captain Clay and First Mate Henry, but they are only the tip of the iceberg! The booking process was wonderful. We booked a last minute rockfish/salmon combo. The gentleman on the phone was respectful, helpful, and patient. Once we booked, we received an email with detailed instructions, including what to bring and wear. Our check in process was easy and so professional. The front desk staff was cheerful and welcoming. Hot coffee was also available! We immediately met Captain Clay and he showed us to our boat. And let me tell you about Captain Clay! What a great guy and extremely talented captain. He greeted us by name (and remembered them through the trip). He travelled skillfully out to our fishing spot in rough water. And helped us to spot wildlife along the way. Once we began fishing, he put us onto a delightful school of rock fish; we started catching them hand over fist. He was also very attentive to the currents and movements of the boat. He helped us to catch our limit quickly by maneuvering onto the school. He was extremely knowledgeable, professional, and fun. His knowledge of the area, tides, fish, and wildlife was excellent. We would gladly join him another adventure! We cannot forget the best deck hand in the land, Henry! A budding captain/fisherman/young man, Henry worked hard to have everything ready before the boat stopped. Additionally, he danced around the deck netting fish, changing lures, and offering encouragement. He was a wonderful and charming addition to the boat.Once we stepped off the boat, we were met by the Filet Man who helped us to take photos, decide how to package and process our fish, and finally fileted them for us.Finally, Rosie, in the office, was kind, patient, welcoming, and helpful as we finished our trip.Thank you for a great trip!!

I was a little disappointed in our charter. We booked a combo salmon/halibut trip for 7/31 on the Seahawk. We spent 3+ hours boating to the destination (for a total of 6 hours travel, which only gave us 3-4 hours of fishing time total, or 2 hours per type of fish). When we finally got to our salmon spot, the crew only had 4 rods for 10 people! I felt like I spent the majority of the time watching other people fish. They did not manage who was fishing next, so you had to fight with everyone else to grab the rod once it had a bite. Also, because they did not have enough rods for everyone, we were not able to get close to our salmon limit, and there was a person in our group who did not even catch a single salmon. We also felt pressured to keep the pink salmon we did pull up, even though we wanted to throw those back and try for silvers/kings.The halibut fishing went OK, since everyone got their own fishing rod, but no one got a large halibut. I know that they cannot guarantee that, but when we got back, a different boat with the same company had very large halibut, which tells me they are not communicating to the benefit of their clients. Because we got some salmon and halibut, and the office coordination with the fish processing company was seamless, I am giving them 3 stars.I wish we had spent less time traveling and more time fishing, and I really wish they had brought enough salmon rods for everyone on the boat. I feel like, if we spent that much money, they could have at least supplied enough rods for everyone (or at least not made us go 3 people PER ROD). I probably would not book with this company again, but if I had to, I would recommend booking a SMALL boat so you do not have to fight with other people to fish.

We used the water taxi on two days. Once they dropped us on a beach for a hiking trip and once we went across to the Otter Cove Resort and rented kayaks for the day. Our driver Joel gave us some tips for our hike and also some tips for fishing from our kayaks. He even offered us a couple of lures that helped us catch some fish. His wife Richelle got us set up with our kayaks and even made sure one of our party who decided not to kayak had a great time. Both of them were just great people. We highly recommend them.

The fishing was great and we brought in halibut, king salmon, silver salmon, pink salmon & rock fish. The accommodations were excellent & if youve never experienced staying out on a big boat, this is a bucket list item. And the food was just wonderful. Id do this adventure again in a heart beat.We will never be able to thank Roark & Lucas and the rest of the crew for their attention to detail and assistance. All four on boat limited and we tossed back a large amount. Travis knows the water like a well-read map. . Great experience and I recommend to all without hesitation! This review is for a trip of a lifetime that my family and I had when we booked with Homer Ocean Charters.First it was kind of late into the fishing season, meaning that the earlier you book, the better chances you have at selecting your desired fishing dates. When I called it was already March and dates were starting to fill. We wanted to target the multi species (halibut, rockfish, salmon). Needles to say, the days we wanted were not available. But the person working in the front office kept us in the loop and worked their magic and found us a spot on the Outer Coast. We fished all day and limited out!

This is lengthy but detailed. Let me start by giving the highest kudos to captain Janine and Ty. They were super accommodating, friendly, fun, and truly put the customer first. Despite some extremely rough seas the captIn wasn’t afraid to go to out deep in search of the big halibut. The rough conditions definitely deterred the rest of the fleet as there were no other boats seen anywhere for miles nor on the radar. The captain endured the rough waters despite the anchor not being able to hold the boat until everyone on the boat got their limit of halibut. The boat and equipment the owner should be ashamed of. Due to rain and colder conditions all 6 passengers sat in the cabin on the way out and back in. The boat had no way of keeping the windows from fogging up (other than a non-operational fan) so the deckhand and captain had to constantly be wiping the windows to have any visibility. Numerous other superficial things were wrong with the boat that given a few dollars could easily be taken care of if there was any pride in ownership. The equipment was truly shameful. Me and my buddy and son chose this company because we wanted a six pack boat where you don’t have to fish in shifts like many of the larger boats do. We did confirm this was the case with the front desk when we booked. Once we got to the salmon ground it quickly became evident we were going to have to fish in shifts, not because the boat couldn’t fish six people at once but because there wasn’t enough functional rods or down-riggers. Only 3 of the rods had enough line to be used and there were only 3 down riggers. Once we were fishing one of the down riggers spools were cracked so it as well was unusable so now only 2 people were able fish at a time. After getting a bite and needing to reset the down-rigger I noticed that the hook was so rusted and dull that had it been able to hook a king it most certainly would have snapped. After we reeled up the other line I realized the hooks on them were nearly as disappointing. Overall the trip was less than stellar. I would definitely go out fishing with Janine and Ty again but only if they were working for a company that had more pride in ownership.

I managed to secure a spot on the Diamond Cape for the next days fishing, 7-23-16. Although the ride was rough, 8-10 foot seas, brisk winds, and choppy, the captain did a great job controlling the boat and finding fish. I caught 2 big kings, 2 moderate halibut and everyone caught fish. I would highly recommend this charter and boat captain. I apologize for not remembering his name but they will know. Captain worked hard to find fish, control the boat so catching was possible in the seas, wind , tidal currents, etc. Great job and when Im back will fish here again.

I typically do not write this type of review. However, this is in response to negative reviews from two of the six clients on a particular day. The other 4 clients were very satisfied. These two folks were rude, and could have ruined our trip were it not for the efforts of our captain. They were late and complained about the lack of a supposed guarantee to catch salmon. At this point the captain offered a complete refund if they wanted to get off the boat before we left the dock. And they brought on board a small breed service dog ???? The dog was supposed to be under control at all times. What a joke!! They were asked numerous times to keep the dog in the cabin rather than loose and under foot. So, from grabbing poles out of turn to blocking access to poles with strikes, it was only through the efforts of our captain that I can say we had a very good experience. It would have been excellent but for two people and a dog.Enough said. Thank you Homer Ocean Charter. I would have know reservations about booking with you in the future.

Booked a trip months in advance through Fish Connection, supposedly on one of their boats only to get pushed at the last minute to a Homer Ocean Charters boat. Capt of the Diamond Cape had a buddy on the boat that he hooked up and helped get extra fish for at the expense of the paying customers. Skimped on the bait, fished marginal spots, and was a very weak overall trip, especially for the trip price. I would never use this company or boat again. Ive fished with over 12 other charters and private boat captains in the area and they are all much better options. Id rather not fish than use these folks again.
