The process of adopting here was average. They discussed care and training plans and ideas. Meeting our doggy was simple - everyone wore masks. But Im disappointed in the care our dog received while he was there. Im so thankful they were able to save him from a kill shelter so we could take him home, but Im surprised they didnt keep him until he was healed from his neuter surgery. Also, once we got home, we realized he was bleeding and had to take him to the emergency vet where they identified an infection of the surgical site. The cone and medicine we came home with should have come from Save A Pet, had they been on top of his care. But it came from the visit to the emergency vet, instead. Im certain it would have taken days for the staff to identify and treat his infection. Im glad we were able to get our pup home, and happy theyre rescuing these pets who would otherwise be lost to the world forever. But I wish they would be getting better care while in the facility.

I adopted my dog from save a pet. They are one of the best shelters Ive ever been to. They truly take care of their animals. The reason they interrogate is because they want to A.) make sure you are aware of the major commitment you are making when adopting and B.) make sure the animal goes to a good home. They know that these animals have been through enough already, so they want to make sure they wont be returned or go into a home where they will be neglected This is one of the cleanest facilities Ive ever been to in my opinion. Dont listen to the negative reviews, theres a good reason they didnt walk out with an animal. If it wasnt for you guys,I would have never met my best friend. Thank you!

They also make sure to let you know if any pets arent good with kids, other pets, or if they have any health issues. My family has been using Save-A-Pet since before I was even born. We had to bring in a pregnant stray cat almost 25 years ago and they kept us updated on her health and that if the kittens, and even let us see them when they were born! I didnt experience the rudeness that other people have mentioned. They questioned me extensively about how much I knew about cats and how wed take care of one. But all shelters should do that. The gentleman who was in charge of the cat room was very helpful. The kitten we ended up taking home was being treated for an upper respiratory infection, but they were upfront about that and gave us a supply of medication for it. He seems to be getting better.

We adopted a beautiful mix around a month ago. The trainer was very friendly and gave us a good amount of interaction time with the dog. We got lucky that we really bonded with the first dog of the only two we were able to see since the other dogs we were interested in all had aggression issues (there were about 4 other dogs we were interested in all with the same story). We had a bit of an irritating experience with the pricing since dogs 7 months or older are supposed to be $250, whereas younger dogs are $350. We were initially told she was 8 months, but when we went to the front desk they kept changing the age and even said they were guesstimating but still charged us $350 even when pressed. We eventually got a refund thankfully but shouldnt have had to deal with this. All in all a good experience, for $250 she came with all her shots, medication, half bag of food and they spayed her for us. They also included a chart with all of her records. She is integrating great with our family and were happy to provide her with a good home.

Let the buyer beware. I recently purchased a cat, medical records I was given started in 2016. Several medical comments recorded on 2/17/18, but I am not medically trained. I took her home 2/18/18. There was additional testing scheduled to be done in three days, but because I was taking her home Save-A-Pet simply cancelled the appointment. I learned this after all the required paperwork was completed. Moderate to severe tarter was noted on the chart from 2016. Now looking carefully through the report there is no mention of correction of the problem, one tooth was pulled. I took her back to the vet as required by contract to my vet on 4/2/18. The vet noted an ear infection and severe tarter. She called Save-A-Pet indicating both of these were pre-existing, the estimate to correct the problem was $300-400. I requested Save-a-Pet assist with the expense and was refused and reminded the adoption contract was AS-IS, no financial assistance would be offered and I could have torn up the contract and left the cat when I learned there was another medical appointment scheduled. I was told I could call around to other vets to perhaps find a lower cost for the procedures required, which ultimately not my largest concern. The final cost for the vet treatment , which also included pulling two teeth was over $850.Obviously, the best care I believed all these years was being provided for the animals in the care of Save-A-Pet is not always correct. As I said in the beginning, let the buyer beware.

There was another person in the waiting room and they were also interested in the same pup. Now for the awesome part - I was told that because I did not have a child or other dog to bring in to meet the one I had met, that they wouldn’t hold the animal (whereas if I had the child or dog they would hold for an hour or two). My best friend wasn’t good enough. At the end of the day a pet gets a home - but I walk away feeling terrible anyway.

The staff/volunteers were very knowledgeable and knew exactly what needed to be done to make the adoption go quickly and smoothly! They don’t rush or push a dog on you, they let you get comfortable and decide. Their fee for an adult dog is EXTREMELY REASONABLE - especially bc it includes all necessary shots, spay or neuter, and micro chip - all for $250. Everyone we encountered was great, and we were really pleased w the entire process!!! Thank you Save A Pet for bringing Stella (sly fox) into our lives, and home! This organization cares more about profits than about animals. My grandma adopted a dog from them a little under a year ago, and today we had to bring the dog back because Save-a-Pet would falsify information to her apartment building to the point where my grandmas apartment would no longer allow her to keep the dog. Since my family lives 5 minutes away from my grandma, we originally wanted to just take the dog so she could still visit her, but Save-a-Pet is notorious for suing you for rehousing the dog for any reason, even if that reason is there fault. Truth be told, they should not have allowed an elderly woman living in an apartment to adopt a terrier puppy in the first place, but after constantly harassing her and her apartment complex, it became evident that the let her adopt the dog knowing she would have to relinquish it and theyd get to profit off of the dog twice. If they cared about the dog being in a safe and healthy home, they would have let my family take the dog in. Not to mention, as we were filling out the paperwork, they tried to say that we needed to pay a minimum $75 donation for relinquishing the dog. After taking a closer look at the contract, there is no such requirement. Additionally, when the dog was adopted, my grandma changed her name, but today we were told that they would not be calling her by that name and they would be calling her by her Save-a-Pet name that she hasnt been referred to as in nearly a year. Theyre going to confuse her and completely change her name, just for the next people to adopt her to likely change her name and confuse her again. Save-a-Pet is a greedy organization that claims to care about the animals, when in reality they only care about their own checks.

First of all, the staff here is so rude, especially the husband & wife team up front. My god, learn some social graces. Second, we adopted our pups in January, one of them had to have a mammory mass removed, and they were supposed to tell us if was cancerous or benign. I’ve called and left messages to no avail. It’s been six months, it was their responsibility to call and let us know if our dog has cancer. Instead, they ignore all my calls. Finally, the vet they sent us to didn’t do any of the other things the staff originally told us they would. Fix one of the dog’s cherry eye, simple things like clipping their dangerously long nails. But the worst, was when we finally got the adoption, they wouldn’t let us take the dogs home even when we told them we would take them to their vet appointment. They were going to make the dogs wait three weeks in the shelter. Thankfully, it was only one until they called me back & let me take the dogs. However, I really felt that if I do things like leave a 5 star review, I wouldn’t be able to rescue my sweet little babies. If you really care about the animals you purport to rescue, trying being kinder to the people that want to help them.

I am a 17 year old Junior Volunteer at Save-A-Pet. At Save a Pet, I have only had good experiences with everyone. Everyone is kind and very helpful. To those people who gave one star, or who said that had bad interactions with people, people have bad days. Sometimes something will be going on in their life that you dont know about and they may accidentally take it out on you. Also, if you are denied a pet, there is probably a very good reason why. Yes, some of the reasons may seem a little crazy as long as youll take care of the animal, but they wish for the best for their animals. If you want to adopt a dog and they tell you that you cant because they have found out that the dog is aggressive with young kids, dont argue. They do this in your best interest so that your kid does not get hurt. Also some one who wrote about the dog kennel rules, its for your safety and the dogs. Obviously dont stick your fingers in the cage. Dont call the dogs name either because that is how our dog walkers take the dogs outside. So by saying their name, you will excite them and make them think that they are going to go on a walk. All of the rules that save a pet has, or all of the precautions that we have on adoptions are for the best interest of our animals and your family. Save-A-Pet is a wonderful shelter with its non kill policy and its extremely helpful and generous people who donate items and money to the shelter. To those who left a good review and understand that rules are there to help, I thank you. And to those who wrote a bad review, I hope to see you in Save-A-Pet again and I hope that you have a great experience next time you come.

We adopted a cat from Save a Pet a few years ago. We wanted another cat and went back to find one to adopt. I mentioned that we occasionally let our cat outside and they told us we could never adopt from them again because the contract states that we could never let the cat outdoors. (I had assumed this meant the cat couldnt live outdoors, but no. It means for the rest of their lives, they cannot breathe fresh air.) They even told us they would put us on a list of animal abusers (RIDICULOUS) and said if they wanted to they could take our cat away from us.We have provided excellent care for countless animals over the years, from hamsters to frogs to dogs to cats. We had a dog with a back condition who we took to acupuncture every two weeks for a year. We train our animals and love them. The people working at this shelter are on a power trip and dont really just want whats best for animals. I want to give a great review because I want more people to come and adopt the animals, but the staff is what’s keeping me from giving a full 5 stars. The way my mother and I were being talked to was ridiculous. One lady at the front desk spoke with such a condescending tone while we were just simply asking questions. Then later while looking at the dogs she says I can’t bend down to look at them. It is as if they don’t want us to adopt any of them. I fell in love with this one dog and wanted to ask questions about him but decided to look on the website where they claimed he’d be on to avoid being talked to like a 2 year old. To my surprise, he was not on there. I took a picture of him before just in case (which was not allowed, shocker). People who are looking for animals to adopt need to feel some sort of connection. How on earth are we supposed to do that when you can’t even bend down. I recommend hiring more approachable, friendly people who don’t act like it’s a burden to be working there.

They interrogate people coming for adoption in a way that everyone is a potential animal abuser and try to find reason to prove that. Some of the questions they asked seem more like a trap for one to fall in. Even if you have flexible opinions but unfortunately give the wrong answer for one time, you are doomed. I try not to suspect this has anything to do with other factors but more from their care of the animals to go to the right home. But I strongly feel that by the way they perform the interview, they have turned away a lot of sincere and responsible people that could provide those pets there a much better home.

The people who work here truly care about each and every animal in their care. Save-A-Pet is a true no-kill shelter. Many rescues keep their saverate high by only taking in highly adoptable animals. Save-A-Pet takes in all dogs and cats regardless of age, breed, health, or behavioral issues. They work with all the animals to assure they are healthy, mentally and physically, before adoption. Some say we are too picky when it comes to adoption but we are looking to match the right pet with the right family so that it is a successful experience. We want our animals to go to safe, loving homes where they will become part of the family. Great no kill shelter. Did a really great job of screening potential applicants. Asking very relevant questions on their dog type. Clean, friendly and professional staff.

Last Saturday we adopted Naya and we wanted to thank you a lot for your help and your advice. First We named her Dakota and we did not encounter any difficulties. We are so happy to have her.. Dakota is doing fine with us. It is so easy and it is thanks to you!. She is very friendly, adorable and well trained. You really cared about her before we adopted her and we are very grateful how kind you were to Dakota . It is impressive. Thanks again a lot for your help, your advice and your kindness. Happily your center exists and ignore all these angry people who posted terrible and slander reviews! have a nice day.. we give you five stars!!! . by the way i read a review which said: you are racist, you do not like people who speak other languages. Well, i am an immigrant and you were kind to me !!!! you care about your pets, that is the principal!Marie and Tony

They really care about the animals there. They share a lot of helpful information about the animals you want to adopt. They are friendly and want to make sure the animals will go to a good home.

Save a pet is a great place to adopt a pet. They ask a lot of questions up front but that is to make sure you are a good match to the dog and the dog is a good match to you and the family. The dog we rescued about a month ago had been in there for a year and 4 months. He had been labelled as a biter because the previous owner who only had him for a month said he bit their daughter. Well, after a month with this dog there is no way he should have been labelled a biter. That daughter of his must have been really antagonizing the dog because he is the most laid back dog I have ever had. Goes to show you how much time and effort the people at save a pet put into the dogs. For being there that long, he adjusted just fine to our house. Thanks to all the volunteers at save a pet for spending time with Ron, now (Odin). He has found his forever home now for good!!

A fantastic place to see cats and dogs. Clean and well maintained. The staff can be a little overwhelmed at times but the animals more than make up for it! You can visit and play with the animals. The process and current list of adoptable animals are on their site.

They do great work. Ignore the people complaining they wouldnt give them a cat after saying they were gonna let it outside. Not all cats are outdoor cats. You are saving an animal that may never have been outside before or found outside. They just want to make sure the cat will have 100% chance of survival and letting your cat outdoors without a harness brings that chance down to 50.

There seem to be several 5 Star Ratings that have no text, no name & are in clusters of 2 & 3 done at the same time, rather contrived. Is Save-A- Pet padding the rating??As many other reviews have stated, the people skills at least at the front desk seem to be Mean, Nasty, Rude & they excel at it!! When a person makes a donation, a polite thank you would be the correct response, not grabbing it with Ill take that!Donny pulled up the record of a dog that we adopted in 1997 & asked what happened to the dog, I said the dog had passed - dirty look from Donny. Then he asked if I still lived with Chuck, I said no, Chuck passed away in 2012 - another dirty look! A civil response would be, Im sorry for your loss in both cases. I understand they hear about the death of animals & people all the time, but for the person stating it, it is still painful.Okay - Save-A-Pet will not adopt a cat to me because I stated Indoor/Outdoor NO!! All cats must be inside at all times! I explained to Donny that I had an enclosure & that in the past the cats went out IF they wanted. Just strike that answer - I wont let the cat out, ever. To late, it was on the application & I had said it. Interview over - Leave! So if your life is going just to great & you need some Mean, Rude & Nasty to ground you - go to Save-A-Pet!

Not happy with this places policies! We adopted an amstaff dog. The dog started attacking my kids after 2 weeks. We retuned the dog & requested a different dog. After only 2 weeks they refused to work with us & want us to spend another $250 to adopt another dog. $500 to adopt a dog?!?!? Not happy!

I have adopted from Save-A-Pet on more than one occasion and now I volunteer there after adopting 2 more kitties this past May. I found everyone to be very helpful and informative during the interview process and asked about quite a few cats over a period of 2 weeks while looking for our newest family member. Now that I volunteer and have been through training, I understand even more the standards this shelter has regarding placing the animals in good homes. There are too many animals that are brought back for ridiculous reasons and thank goodness SAP will ALWAYS take one of their own back. This is a wonderful shelter filled with caring and skilled staff and volunteers.

We adopted our cat from here 5 months ago and so far our car Sammy has been a great cat. His name was originally Blimpo. The staff was nice to us and very friendly. I really like their cat area where they have them out of the cage and walking around. Some are in cages because they just got there or other reasons. Overall clean environment and helpful staff and would come back again.

Worst experience trying to adopt a pet here. They bombard you with trick questions, if you get 1 wrong there goes your chance. Im never going back. I was trying to save a dog, but I guess Im buying 1 off a friend. I tried.
