Great place to learn and train jiu jitsu. Very great workout, I personally do not enjoy going to the gym, but after a good hard roll comes great comfort. The instructor, Chris Lund, is thorough in explaining technique and gives great advice; his style of technique is to my liking. I do not think I would have the same experience I do now with a different instructor. Very kind hearted and humble people in the academy, a great pleasure to train with them.

I’ve been training here for about three years, and I don’t think I’ll ever step into another gym with the same quality as this one. Professor Lund is a great coach, very laid back, and has more knowledge about martial arts than I can dream of having. Everyone in class is very friendly and welcoming. Mats are always clean. This is without a doubt one of my favorite places to be, with all the people I treat like family, and they treat me the same. Hopefully I’ll be training here for a long time.

My kids and I really like Ohana. Whats nice is they have two days during the week when the kids class goes on at the same time as the adult class so its convenient. Im completely new to martial arts so I was a bit worried about dragging down the rest of the class but everyone here is really nice and willing to work with you. You can learn at your own pace and everyone tries to help out the beginners.

I went to this academy back in 2006 and just returned in 2018. This is by far the best BJJ Academy in Lake County. We are a family (Ohana) oriented academy that cares about each other. I highly recommend this academy to everyone!

Been training at Ohana for around 2 months now, couldnt ask for a more perfect training environment. Very relaxed, go at your own pace, and the instructors are incredible in both their knowledge of the art and their attitudes towards their students. All the members are really welcoming and just focused on improving and uplifting everyone, rather than having an ego or trying to prove something. I cant say enough praise about Chris and his academy. If youre at all hesitant to start just contact Chris for a free trial and after the first session youll know why all the reviews about this place are 5 stars.

Ohana martial arts provides excellence in every phase of the arts. The studio is the cleanest in Lake County, the instructor is completely dedicated. Our desire was for Chris to develop a specialized program for our autistic son. We could not be more pleased with emphasis on coordination, balance, and self confidence skills Chris has taught. Chris provides private lessons at a reasonable rate and showers the student with praise and patience. We are very pleased with the progress and new skills our son has shown. We have been with Chris for 2 years and will continue.

I had the chance to train with Chris in 2008 when I was a white belt. Since then I moved around and have trained at a number of other academies along the way. When I finally moved back to the area, deciding to come back to Ohana to continue training vs. finding something a little closer was a no-brainer. The instruction is detailed and the environment is welcoming. The name of he gym is fitting. While most of us are hobbyists we occasionally hit the tournament scene, so I definitely get the chance to up the intensity every now and then. I am looking forward to the day my kids are old enough to train so I can bring them to Ohana with me.

Our 6 year old was very eager to begin jiu jitsu. There is a wonderful childrens program in addition to the adult program at Ohana. This is a positive learning environment where new students feel as welcomed as those who have been there. I dont have to worry about my son getting hurt since the instructors are very knowledgeable and really spend the time to teach and reteach skills. Students are learning self-discipline as well as technical skills.

I have been training martial arts of various styles for more than 10 years. I found Ohana from a past student and could not be happier. What a great decision to move to this gym for so many reasons. Clean, respectful students and instructors, world class training in my opinion. If you want to train Kali or BJJ there is not a better fit. Professor Lund takes the time with each student to understand why they are training and helps them get to understand the art along with the physical game and meet the students goals as well.I have trained here for 3 years now and both my kids have started training here as well. I plan on training here for the rest of my days.....

This is an extremely friendly, professional, and supportive martial arts academy. Both my daughter and I train in bjj here attending the adult and children classes (adults training on one side of the mat, kids training together on the other side). I have a black belt in ninjitsu from an academy in Ohio that I dearly love and miss. Finding a school that has the same level of world-class, humble instruction I received in Ohio was something I didn’t think I would be able to find again. Thankfully, Chris’s expertise, humility, and leadership have lead to the creation of an academy that makes me feel the same way I did in Ohio. This is a truly great place for both adults and children to learn one of the most effective martial arts on the planet. I highly recommend Ohana to any family looking to learn bjj.

I’ve been training at Ohana, along with both of my kids, for almost a year now. The gym is always kept clean and safe.Chris continually drives home the point that, when done correctly, this is an art that anyone can do for the rest of their life. Keeping people safe should always be paramount in any martial art and BJJ is no different. The community at Ohana has always been very supportive and willing to start slow with new students. The kid’s classes are always kept fun while continuing to give them a very technical foundation of BJJ.Professor Lund’s instruction is incredibly technical, while breaking it down into each of the small parts to make it easily digestible.Chris keeps up with his own “continuing education” in the form of visiting other schools or bringing in world champions for seminars, multiple times each year.My kids and I will continue to train here for a long long time.

I started my journey in BJJ just over a year ago with Ohana and could not be happier with my decision. The gym is always very well kept and the staff is very professional , I also liked the fact that there were different options for me as a new practitioner to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Besides their normal classes they also offer beginner classes or as they call them fundamentals class which I would highly recommend to anyone new to the sport along with private one on one tutoring (additional $ for private lessons) for beginner to advanced students. This place is great!! Very easy going and definitely worth a visit if you are considering trying BJJ for the first time or if you are new to the area looking for a high level BJJ school with a very cool vibe.

Chris Lund is a phenomenal instructor. In my 2 years training at Ohana, he has taught me so much. The technique taught is solid, and the direction is clear. Chris is always willing to help work on details with you, and really helps you to not just perform a technique, but also understand the why behind everything you learn. I have not only learned amazing jiu jitsu, boxing, and kali technique, but have further learned the importance of strong character through Chris. He teaches humility through example, and breeds an environment that nurtures safety, positivity, and humility. Cant recommend Ohana more!

I started training at Ohana in 2012. Since then, I have immersed myself in martial arts and taken advantage of all that Ohana has to offer. I have earned my brown belt, and I am a coach in our children’s program. Our Professor, a black belt for 12 years, has been practicing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Filipino Kali, and Jeet Kune Do, Bruce Lee’s philosophy, for over 30 years. He teaches more than half the classes we offer, and we offer training opportunities five days a week. Ohana is quickly approaching its 20-year anniversary. Ohana means family, and that’s what we represent. As a coach at Ohana I take 3-4 private lessons a week. Much is the same for my counterparts, who are also brown belts. I would also like to point out that they come from a variety of marital arts backgrounds and include a Golden Gloves Champion. We do have healthy-sized classes, but I have never had a problem finding a place to roll. We have ample mat space. We are respectful and mindful of our surroundings. You can keep it real or playful – there’s room for everyone.

Ohana Martial Arts is the 1st MMA/BJJ school in Lake County. You can not be the longest standing MMA/BJJ school without having some bedrock core essentials. Professor Chris Lund comes from a rich pedigree of martial artists and fighters. The instruction you get from him is straight from the source. You are not getting youtube instruction nor third/fourth hand-me down instruction, you are getting the same instruction from high level instructors from all over the world from Professor Lund. Which is another great point I need to mention, you have a Blackbelt always doing your instruction and working with you even training with you! Another essential quality to a great academy is that it is CLEAN, Ive been there for nearly 15 years and I have NEVER became infected with any fungal infection associated with mats. I would let my own little children roll on the mats at the academy. The last point I would like to make is the instruction and the type of people at the academy. Professor Lund is patient and yet stern. He will meet any student where they are at and work with them to help bring out the best martial artist they can be. He is very approachable and he makes learning mixed martial arts very interesting and sometimes funny. It is also the reason why his kids classes are so popular. The adults and children at the academy are all very respectful to each other and to Professor Lund. They are highly technical yet hold a warriors heart for battle. I highly recommend this academy to all. If you want high quality MMA instruction that is technically sound and balanced with realistic implementation to dangerous situations as well as kids classes this is your spot. Nearly all students stay for life, they leave due to college, job and other life changes but always want to come back. Come see for yourself!!!!!!

I want everyone to know that the kids jui-jitsu program at Ohana is ABSOLUTELY the BEST. Truly a gem in Lake County. The class is taught by the owner, Chris Lund. He is not only, of course, a Black Belt in Jui-Jitsu but he is in my book a Black Belt as a teacher. Very few people can captivate the kids attention the way he does. Sometimes there are 10-15 kids in a class and they are so captivated by Chris that you can hear a pin drop. Scary! I have 10 kids in my Cub Scout Den and getting their attention is definitely a challenge for me. He makes the classes fun as well and the kids really enjoy it. Conveying his knowledge to the kids is awesome as my kid puts it. Kudos to Chris! Also if you are checking out other schools you will notice the kids Jui-jitsu program are usually delegated to Blue or Purple belts. Nothing really wrong, but why get teaching from a student rather than a master? And there are absolutely no tough guy attitudes or other distractions.I love Jui-jitsu!Rack Lee,Westlake Christian Academy Dad
