If the time estimate looks like its going to run longer, they let me know as soon as possible. And they are always great about working with me to borrow a loaner vehicle. On a personal level, they have helped me out of a jam and have been so kind a caring with their help. As a bonus they are always great to my son when we come in. First time going here. An excellent experience. My daughter came from out of town for a visit. As she got close to home , she noticed a loud rattling from the underside of the car. After calling two Nissan dealers and not being able to get an appointment until Monday (granted this was on a Friday at 4:30 pm), I called Gages Lake 𝙰𝚞𝚝𝚘. Spoke to C.J. who said he was open until 6 pm and if we brought it in he would look at it to at least diagnose the problem. Took it in and turns out it was just a loose heat shield, which they reattached right away.When I asked what we owed he said “ Nothing”. What great above and beyond service! They could have easily told us to come in next week(which we weren’t in a position do). They’ve got a new customer.

My car had several warning lights that came on intermittently. I first took the car to a different shop, where they thought they addressed the issue. However, the warning lights came back. I took the car in to Gages Lake Auto, and they fixed the problem. They kept the car for several days so that they could test drive it at various times. They called me with a full explanation about the problem. Their customer service team is friendly and knowledgeable. I also got to use a complimentary loaner car. I will be back the next time my car experiences a problem.

I had just come back to grayslake to visit my parents when my car started making an awful rattling noise. I was concerned that I may have to drive back home with my car in that condition. We called Gages Lake Auto at about 5pm (they close at 6pm) and they were extremely friendly and said that we can swing by and they can at least diagnose the issue to determine if it would be a safety hazard or not. As soon as we got there, the employee behind the counter laid down on the pavement and reached under my car and determined that the issue was a loose heat plate. He brought the car into the shop and explained everything and fixed it right in front of us!! His name was CJ I believe and he was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. He genuinely just wanted to help me solve my issue. He and the mechanic did all of this right before they closed and, after coming here, I never want to take my car anywhere else!!!

I have been coming to Gages Lake Auto for 7-8 years, I was referred to them by the tow company they use. (Who I have been very happy with.) I have never had a bad experience at Gages Lake Auto. From Todd at the front desk, who is always polite and helpful. He answers all of my questions thoroughly and is always ready with suggestions and expert advice. I have never felt that I am being taken advantage of regarding unnecessary repairs and/or higher prices. For example, I needed my air bag mechanism repaired which would have been a $400 job. Todd did some research and found out that hidden in my warranty was a clause that Honda had to repair it free of charge at one of their dealerships. They gave up a $400 job so I was able to get a serious repair done at no charge. That says it all. I was also able to take care of a recall issue at the same time.I highly recommend Gages Lake Auto. They provide a service that no one else I have gone to has provided which makes my life so much easier. Courtesy vehicles. I dont have anyone to help me during the day, so this is an invaluable service.If you are looking for a mechanic for any reason, I highly recommend checking out Gages Lake Auto.

We have been using Gages Lake Auto for over 6 years. They are honest, straightforward and have very competitive prices. Their customer service is fantastic and I feel very confident using them. I never feel they over sell repairs or pressure us into doing unnecessary maintenance. They tell you upfront what all the costs will be and there are no surprises. They stand behind their work. One of our cars is much older and they help us asses what is really necessary to do without over investing the the car. They made a point to get to know us as a family and not just as a customer with cars that need maintenance or repairs. They provide free loaners if needed. We highly recommend them!

I have taken my vehicles to this shop for the past 15 years. Never pressured to make a quick decision or spend money unnecessarily. Everything is explained simply and helpfully. The staff has always been friendly and treated my wife and I like family. I have referred neighbors, friends, and visiting family (needing emergency repairs!) over the years and have always heard good feedback. I havent needed a courtesy car every time, but has been nice to know one was available if needed. Recently found out that they opened another location in Lake Villa. Not a surprise they are expanding. Will continue to recommend.

Ive been using Gages Lake Auto for a few years now. They have always been friendly, helpful, and willing to go the extra mile. The ability to get a loaner car is great, but their service is great and their pricing is reasonable, too. The last time I had work done was because of a failed emissions test. I was going to be out of town while they worked on my car, and the deadline for getting the car re-tested was going to pass while I was gone. Not only were they able to repair the car, but they took it to the testing facility for me.

Great service. My first visit, so a little nervous as I was bringing my vehicle in for what I thought was going to be a transmission issue. To my great surprise, it was not a transmission issue. I knew there was an issue with the radiator as well, so had them fix that since I was not going to buy a transmission. I cant rave enough about the quality of work and customer service we receive from Gages Lake Auto! They give prompt accurate quotes, the work gets done quickly, and they are honest. Our vehicles have many miles on them, they keep our cars going and costs down while making sure we are safe.

So I am one to read reviews, not so much write them. BUT this place is more than worthy of a 5 star review. I was traveling from out of town when I had some extensive car trouble. TRUSTING A MECHANIC IS HARD, everyone knows this. Please let me put your search at its end here because these guys really take care of their customers whether you are new or returning. CJ, the service advisor, was very thorough communicating information with me and made this process PAINLESS. Being one to know little about cars AND an out-of-towner, I NEVER felt taken advantage of or pressured into a decision and to me that is a huge weight lifted. He took the time to take me out to my car while it was lifted to actually show me what he was talking about so I didnt have to take his word for it, I got to see for myself what the heck was going on. The mechanic who worked on my car, the behind the scenes guy, BRIAN. He worked quick and efficient to get me back on the road and what stood out to me was that he worked proactively by ordering parts for my car knowing there would be a chance I could opt out of the repair. Which I probably would have if they hadnt taken me out to the car to see the part they were talking about in the first place (I had previously known about the issue but unaware of the extent due to lack of communication between a prior mechanic and I from my local shop) The whole team is very aware of their capabilities and are utterly honest with the customers about options to fix issues regarding repairs and who doesnt like knowing they have options. Thats one of the headaches going to a mechanic, you feel pressured, without options, and a huge hole in the wallet. Rest assured, these guys work for their customers, I am a one time customer due to living out of state, but I would absolutely trust these guys again and again. Its hard making a name for your business in the auto repair industry, I truly hope if you took the time to read this review you highly consider taking your vehicle to Gages Lake Auto because I 100% believe they will do everything and anything to satisfy your needs and your cars. I cannot praise them enough and wish there were more shops like them.

I called several locations for a quote. None of them had a smile in their voice and all sounded disinterested and less than interested in new business. A coworker recommended GLA bc hes been bringing his cars their for years. What a pleasant surprise. Talked to 2 different men, at different times; each was kind, professional and informative. Pricing for services was reasonable and routine. I believe they priced based on services performed and did not price gouge or invent/overinflate work. After paying for services, I asked where my car was parked. Pat offered to walk with me to it. Now thats service! They now have a new customer for life and I will recommend their services to anyone.

The quality of service at Gages Lake is excellent. And the price cant be beat. Mike explained very thoroughly about what was wrong in the front end of my truck. Something Ive been subconciously ignoring. I had the truck in for routine maintenance on this visit, but will be bringing it back for the ball joints and tie rods in May.

I took my 2008 Nissan Quest to Gages for the first time last month (I have been taking it to the local nissan dealer since we bought it in 2011).Gages inspection revealed the lack of real care the dealer has been providing me.Since my service at Gages Lake Auto, my Quest is running better than it has since Ive owned it.Also, that day, I started feeling ill at work. So I called Todd and asked if they could get it done early, and it was done, hours before I normally pick up my cars there from service.

I have taken my cars to GLA for some time. I can say that Mark, Todd and the rest of the crew do great work for reasonable prices. The work gets done when they say its going to get done. They are friendly and always advise me of my options and prices. I first came to this shop after being told by another shop that I needed a new AC compressor. GLA took a look and determined that a valve needed replacement. Saved me a pile of money on that one! They have been especially helpful as my car gets older, in helping me decide whether to continue repairing or replace.In short this is a great business that cares about its customers, is thoroughly knowledgeable about the work, is customer-friendly, offers loaner vehicles, and gets the job done right the first time. The local VW dealership said the rear brake drums on my 12 Jetta needed to be replaced along with my brake shoes. Gages Lake Auto told me that its very likely my drums could be resurfaced. Indeed they could be resurfaced and I saved over $300 on this needed work. CJ at the front desk was very helpful and provided me with a loaner vehicle at no charge (except for the gas I used). I HIGHLY recommend this shop.

I have a 2007 PT Cruiser with 100K miles that was failing emissions testing due to a bad catalytic converter. The first shop I took it too wanted $1,000 for the repair ($700 parts, $300 labor). I decided to try Gages Lake Auto instead and am very happy I did.I explained that due to the age of the car I didnt want to spend too much on the repair. They understood my needs and offered to install a universal catalytic converter for $410. After the installation they drove the car until the computer began reporting emissions data to verify the problem was completely resolved. I was impressed they did this because the first (more expensive) shop told me Id have to bring the car back myself the next day after driving it a while.They were out of loaner cars the day I went but gave me a ride to the train station so I could get to work. They went the extra mile every way they could and I will definitely use them again.
