This establishment is fantastic. The staff is professional and attentive to what you need. The place is kept immaculately clean. There is a great theme of nostalgic photos. The barber shop sells cool t shirts that are great for anyone’s collection. It is right downtown. We got lucky and parked out front on the street. We were a walk-in taken with no wait. I brought my elderly father was there for a cut and a shave. He was treated like a vip and left feeling more confident and ready for a big appointment he has coming up. There was a grade school child there getting his summer cut freshened up. So basically while I was there they were helping customers 8-80. These folks do it right. Their website has accurate hours and information. I have no affiliation with the staff or ownership. Just one person’s perspective. 5 star experience.

My husband and I have busy schedules so its great that theyre open on sundays. I wasnt sure if they did womans hair but, all I ever need is a simple trim. This place was perfect for what I needed done and the price was good too.

Got the worst cut of my life. Went in, told them what I wanted: shorter sides, back but left it layered on top. thought it looked ok.When I got home and showered, I was appalled. Hair fell so terribly, and top was too long. Never touched. Ended up shaving my head it looked so bad. If you want a cop cut, or a Karen cut, this is the place for you. Nice people and a local business, but not diverse in styles or skill. Would not recommend.

My 7 year old son was overdue for a haircut and after pleading with him he finally agreed to one. Ive heard great things about BlackBear and was referred here by a few people so we came after school to give it a shot. Typically he can have a hard time with haircuts, he is squirmy and doesnt like the feeling of hair on him while its getting cut so he tends to move allot. Well he had an Awesome experience! My son actually said to me while walking out the door, that was relaxing, can we come here for haircuts from now on? Which is huge for him to actually want another haircut! I am so happy we came here and I would recommend them 1000x over!

Most of my life I’ve gone to salons instead of barbers... Not any more!I love my haircut. The owner was great to talk to and struck me as a stand-up guy. He tried to tell me that his haircuts weren’t anything special and that he couldn’t figure out why he’s so busy. Based on my haircut, I’d say he’s just being humble. I’ve received tons of compliments and it was exactly what I wanted (impressive, given my attempt to describe it).I know where I’m going next time I need a haircut, without a doubt.

Love this place! Been getting my haircut here for over a year now and come out looking better than ever! The owner is a great guy who does a lot for the community! They even offer discounts to military veterans, police and fire. With Covid, I was nervous that I wouldn’t feel safe, but they all wear masks, constantly wiping stuff down and they also wear gloves. Can’t recommend them enough!

Best barbershop Ive ever been to hands down. Haircuts and beard work come out perfect every time. The hot towel shaves and cleansing masks are also a nice bonus that you dont see around Gloucester. Very friendly and talented staff. Aesthetically pleasing decor as well! Highly recommended to anyone looking for their new regular barbershop. You wont be disappointed!

This is now my regular shop. Very good cuts that are consistent every time I go. I also prefer supporting a local veteran owned shop over much else. I couldnt wait for my son to get old enough where we could share the father and son barbershop experience. Not snip-its, not Supercuts. I live in Malden and take the monthly drive to Gloucester to get our hair cut. Matt is the Barber we travel for but if hes busy you cant go wrong with any of their talented barbers. The place is much nicer than your average barbershop. Always walk out feeling pampered and Exceptionally handsome. If youre in the area, weather it be for clams or to see the bronze fisherman, clean yourself up. Chances are you look unkempt.

I love The Black Bear, best barbershop in the city! Jacob is an amazing talent that gets better with every cut. He is only available by appointment but they have a very convenient walk in service as well. Beautiful shop with a great atmosphere just an over all awesome place!!

Barbers take their time to ensure you get every pennys worth by providing superb attention to detail resulting in a perfect cut. They are veteran owned, and in turn offer discounts for military/veterans as well as police officers and firefighters.

There aren’t enough barbershops like the Blackbear Barbershop. Most places you go, you go to get your hair cut, and then leave, not the case here. The minute you walk in you get an old school feel with a great atmosphere and sense of community. After you’re cleaned up and looking fresh, you don’t mind staying a while. I absolutely recommend going, I will be back for sure

No question the best haircut in town. Ryan gives a great fade and unlike other places that just put a guard on the clippers and hack at your beard, he cleans it up the way you ask. On the rare occasion that Ive had to wait, it is worth it to get it done right. I wont go anywhere else.

I am a weekly customer of the Blackbear barbershop since it opened and I’ve never left unsatisfied. As soon as you walk in you’re greeted with a friendly welcome and amazing service. Also the place just has a very relaxing atmosphere that people of all ages can enjoy. This place is open 7 days a week and never disappoints. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

One of the worst cuts I have ever received. I went in looking for a traditional flat top and came out looking g like Rocket Man shaved on the sides and a big puff at the top. Had to go to another barber to fix. Needles wont be back. The Master barber was not

Good haircuts, nice atmosphere, but you will wait an hour or more for your haircut. And cash payment only. Its inconvenient if youre a busy man.
