I loved the servicee writers but as always the way the dealer operates is substandard. I took my truck in for a fuel pump issue and it did have a full tank of fuel. I get it back and its a half tank fuel. They made the excuse that they have to drain fuel and its contaminated. Which is fine but that still doesnt mean you dont fill it back to full mark. They just rip you off. I willb file a complaint with Ford.

Just your typical car salesman who would rather sell you a car then to actually listen to what you need and then help you. They pretend to care as they steer you on the quickest path to buying a vehicle even if they don’t have the vehicle that fits your needs or your budget. Lastly, don’t think for a second that they’re going to let you go home and think about it. They need you to buy it now before you can realize that it’s not what you want.

During a out of state trip my F250 started shaking in the front end. I was on my way to the hospital to visit a family member. I stopped at Thunderbasin Ford in Gillette, WY. I was greeted by Bill and Sarah and was treated with respect and dignity. They listened to my concerns and immediately diagnosed the problem and told me they could get it fixed in less than an hour! They determined it was a problem with the steering dampening and was subject to a recall and repaired it for free. During my wait they provided a driver to take me and an elderly family member to lunch. On the way back to the dealership my family member’s oxygen machine’s battery died and we only had a vehicle charger with us. Sarah, bless her heart, let us sit in her personal vehicle so we could charge the machine. Once our vehicle was repaired they helped us get in it and back on our way to the hospital. This was the best interaction I have ever had at a car dealership. If you are ever in the area and need help or are looking to buy a vehicle, definitely choose Thunderbasin Ford. Ask for Bill or Sarah!!

Stopped in Gillette for 1 night on my way home to Wisconsin last week,when I went to leave the next morning my check engine light came on on my new F350.So I went over to Thunder BasinFord to get it checked out since I still had a 2 day drive.Sarah was absolutely wonderful working my vehicle in and answering my questions.Jake did a great job working on my truck and getting me back on the road.Everybody I came in contact with at the dealership was very friendly and asked if I needed anything.If I lived near Gillette they would absolutely be my choice for doing business with.Thanks again for getting me back on the road.Pat

I recently had my vehicle in to have several things fixed on it. The service department was extremely helpful in letting me know exactly what was needed and what could wait. They answered all my questions and kept me informed of any changes. They were very friendly and easy to talk to which made the whole process a lot less stressful.

I like the staff however, when we brought our car in we dropped it off at 9 am so they could look at it and order needed parts by 1 pm to get them there the next day, well, that was the plan. We didnt get a call until 3:35 pm letting us know what was needed so they missed the order cut off of 1 pm so we had the car there an extra day to wait for parts. Not terrible but not the plan. One other thing is, it would have been nice for them to call us on the THIRD day to let us know if they got the parts and if it would be done that day but we had to call and were first told the parts werent in but then on a call back we were told they WERE in and it would be done that day. Bill in the service department was the most helpful and understanding and actually did pick me up so I could get the car so that was great service on his part!!!

Have two negative reviews:1st review: I took my car in for a recall that was scheduled weeks in advance. Dropped car off on scheduled day@7am. Get a call @11am telling me the part was on back order and I needed to reschedule. Don’t you think they would have know the day before?. Funny. Call Ford in Rapid get recall scheduled again and recall part was not back ordered! McKie Ford fixed my recall! McKie Ford in Rapid will have MY recall business from now on!2nd review: I took my car in for some dash lights(ABS/Airbag/traction control). Lights come on when wet. Ford spent hours looking it over and found nothing! Take it Platinum, found and fixed the problem.

We went to look at cars to get an idea of where we needed to be and what kind of car we wanted; the salesmen we dealt with were truly amazing and we ended up purchasing a 2020 Ford Explorer. Everyone from the salesmen to the finance guy was super helpful and extremely nice and made you feel right at home and at ease immediately. I called the Ford service department Friday morning & Bill was so kind especially when I said I was headed back to Colorado Sunday. I won’t forget him saying “We don’t have appointments open but we can’t have you out there not knowing what’s wrong. Out of town breakdown! 95, Class C, E350 fuel pump went out. Once parts arrived, they got us back on the road to WA state fairly and thoroughly. While we waited for parts (a couple of days) - great hospitality from all staff. They treated us like old friends. Thank you Thunder Basin Ford!

Got charged 132 dollars for something I already told them was the problem and they said it was covered under extended warranty over the phone. ( they have my vehicle record on file because I purchased it new there) after it was all said and done they lied and charged me. Apparently it skipped my year. Should have listened to everyone who consistently said stay away. Bought several vehicles from them and will not do it again. There is a good reason all other dealers in the area are rated higher.

While filling fuel in Gillette noticed an oil leak in the valley coming from one of the high pressure oil hoses. Called Thunder Basin Ford to see if they could look at the problem. They were able to assist me right away and sent the technician Jake out to access the issue. It was over 90 degrees and engine was extremely hot. Jake found the problem it was a o ring leak on the high pressure oil line. He changed them while the engine was hot to get me back on the road. Exceptional work and repaired the problem with not the best conditions. Awesome job

Went to this location because they advertised a vehicle on their website but it was sold a few days prior. So I was baited in with false hope but I only found this out AFTER I gave the gentleman all my of info including my social security number. So since they had my info and I was already there I said whatever and told him what I wanted and he proceeded to try and upsell me what he thought I would want. I explained again what I wanted and I was met with the upsell of the newer body style which I dont like. I wanted a V8 and he kept pushing the V6 Turbo. I wanted big and reliable and he pushed a Ford Ranger at one point... Not once did any of the 3 reps I eventually talked to even listen to what I wanted. I went to another dealership and purchased a vehicle with cash because they actually listened to my want/needs and didnt try to sell me something that they thought I needed. When you try to pressure a US Army veteran of 10 years who has been shot at daily while deployed, it just doesnt work the way you want it to. Ill chalk it up to the fact that the salesman was new and had no knowledge of mechanics or any of the vehicles he was selling. If you get a salesperson who isnt desperate to make a sale and knows the vehicles, you will have a great experience and not waste your time (and theirs). That was not the case for me.

My 2 year old car with 30,000 miles needed a few minor repairs. They told me I needed a new motor. Luckily its under warranty. Its been 2 and a half months and they still have my car. They wont get a hold of me, unless they are trying to sell me a new car, which btw are grossly overpriced. After replacing the motor they said it needed another new one because of the timing chain. Then they said it was fine and I could pick it up today. When I called to make sure they told me that they are replacing the fuel pump. Im not sure if Ill ever see my car again at this rate. This place is a joke, i should have taken it to Spearfish.

The intake staff in the service department did not stay on top of the part order as they should. Knowing that I was from out of town and needed to leave on a specific day they did not try to expidite the part order or follow up on it. They used COVID as their excuse but in fact the multiple times that I called to check on the part, there was no follow through by the staff unless I went in person and stood there waiting for a response. Very disappointing service.

Since May 2019 the service of this place has grown increasingly worse. I liked this dealership in prior to that. Now they are terrible . From scheduling appointments, to the service people to the management who avoid customers and will not return a phone call.I will never return to this dealership and via social media and word of mouth I am warning others likewise.I will buy my next vehicle and have it taken care of with reputable dealers in Spearfish or Rapid City.

Now im looking at a week total b4 its done due to waiting on parts how does a shop get anything done if they have to special order even the most basic parts? Beginning to be rather disappointed. I took my truck in for an oil change to our local Ford dealership in Gillette, WY because of their staff. I had such a great experience with Ford and their service lady Jennifer; when I took my work car in earlier this year, I had to go back. I called Jennifer in the service department and she was very friendly and got my truck on the schedule! I will continue to call Jenifer when my vehicles are in need of service ! I also want to note that both times I have been there, the mechanics have returned my car in its same condition, nice and clean (no stinky oil drips or dirty shoe marks), and my vehicle ready for the next 3,000 miles ! I’ve taken my car in for different things twice now. The first I had a hole in my tire and they told me it just needed air, I had filled it up 6 times. Took it to Big Horn tire and there was a hole it that needed patched. The second time I needed my oil changed and my car makes a high pitched ring noise and shakes when stopped. They changed the oil but didn’t do anything about the ring and not a day later my horn broke and is now extremely high pitched. Not super impressed and will not be buying local for the convenience again due to service.

I bought a car from them thinking that a dealership would inspect there vehicles better then these other used car places. Less then a month of having my vehicle I had to take it in to get serviced. It has a few issues the biggest one is the steering because it needs bolts because the steering could go out at anytime , the weather stripping by the door has come off and it needs latches for the door because the door won’t open. All these together means I will be spending over a thousand to fix it after I just got it. I’ve been without a car two days in the middle of packing and trying to get ready for a move this has really slowed my progress down since now I can’t do nothing.being a single mom means your kiddos depend solely on you and now thanks to this mess I’m losing valuable time. I’ve already called numerous times and after a bit I get tired of hearing myself talk.i really feel the steering wheel issue is something that should have been inspected before they sold the car.all this time it could’ve gone out. I am annoyed being without a car at such a crucial time. It’s to the point u can’t trust anyone selling a car🧐

Terrible. The lady that tried to sell me a truck didnt know the difference between an f150 lariat and an f150 stx. She had no idea anything about any of the trucks she had me look at. She kept saying its so pretty, but couldnt answer very basic questions like, what does this button do? Learn about the product youre trying to push, lady. That being said I had to find them myself, they didnt take me to see a single one. I had to dig through them, after telling them numerous times what I wanted. Things got way worse, but Im not gonna ramble. They tried to sell me a 2016 dodge ram 1500 for 43000. I got one a whites energy for 37000. They also offered me 1000 lower on my trade in than whites did. Honestly it felt like they didnt want to do business with me. I left the dealership feeling very disappointed.

Service could not have been better. While traveling through wyoming had a water pump go out. limped into the dealership late thursday. They gave me a loner car without asking. The car was repaired and ready for pickup by noon the next day . Even the repair costs were reasonable. It was great. My only regret is that things happened so fast I forget to ask for names of those who provided the services. Thanks everyone involved.

They twisted my words to make it seem like I told them I needed cheap and fast labor to install a cadilac converter. When the person in service just had told me a price and said this is between us to make it seem like he threw me a nice deal. Two days later picked up my truck and didnt notice till a day after that they did a bad job on the welding pin holes and evrything. Well called them to talk about it and pretty much they just told me they will not do nothing about it because i said i needed it fast and cheap ,when i had only asked if it could be done before certain date and he said sure its just a one day thing . And aslo blamed it on some rusting parts but clerly thoes two parts they welded together look fine to me but not the welding.

I sent an email to the GM on Aug. 8th. No response.Good afternoon,I was reading reviews and noticed most issues with service were directed to contact you.My husband and I moved to Wyoming on July 21st. We noticed your dealership on our trips around town and stopped in I believe on Monday, July 22nd. We both had some issues with our vehicles, so we stopped in and made an appointment to bring them both back in for service on Wednesday, Aug. 7th. Thats the earliest available appointment.We brought my husbands truck in the night of Aug. 6th. His vehicle was not entered into the system for service on Aug. 7th. I drove my vehicle in before work for my scheduled service and was told my vehicle wasnt even entered into the system for service. I was told that they were short handed and would not even be able to work on it at all. So, I asked if I could drop it off that evening and take my husbands truck home and they can work on it today (Aug. 8th).I called around 1:50pm today to find out the status of my vehicle and when it would be ready. I was told it hasnt even been looked at and she had no idea when it will even be ready. I took that as longer than a day.Im very disappointed with the service we are getting from your dealership. We scheduled our service appointments in more than enough time by no choice of our own. We were told that Aug. 7th was the soonest we could get in. It is disappointing to be told our vehicles were not even on the service list for an appointment we made several weeks ahead of time. It is also concerning to be told that she has no idea when my vehicle will be ready implying it could take a long time to get to it.So, rather than go online and bash your company. I would like to know if this is common practice for your dealership or if you are even aware of the issues with your service department. Im also concerned about what my repairs are going to cost me considering most mechanics call prior to work and give an estimate. That was not even possible with your service department nor was it a consideration until I brought it up.Again, I just wanted to make you aware of the problems weve experienced with your service department.UPDATE still no word from the GM. I called yesterday (Aug 12th) to find out how long it was going to take for the part to come in and the repairs to be made. I was told the part would be in on Tuesday August 13th. I needed some warranty work done on my truck. Took it in on Monday to figure out what was going on. They got my part and work was finished on Wednesday. Im very pleased wish how quickly everything was handled. Thanks TBF service and parts team.

We came to Gillette for the NHSRA National Finals Rodeo. Our truck was having some issues on the way, which needed to be addressed right away, so that we could haul our horses safely. Although they had a tight schedule, Thunderbasin Ford found the time to assess and fix our truck in a very timely manner. The service department- especially Jennifer, were very helpful and professional.
