First, let me say Jimmy is kind, professional, and organized. Next, his shop is clean and neat. Contrary to some other poor comments, we had no trouble finding the location and signs are indeed posted as you drive in that leads you to the building. When you call the answering machine even tells you how to get there with the address and invites you to stop in. Again contrary to other comments, he did return our call in a business timeframe. We are so grateful for all the help and expertise Jimmy offered. Would highly recommend for any of your audio needs he surely knows what he’s doing.

Not only is the work top quality, but the attention to customer needs and overall approach to care is spot-on. Jimmy knows gear, and is ready to assess on the spot (schedule permitting, but thats been my experience). Hell listen carefully to your report of what you think is going on, plug the component in right there, and offer a very fair guess of what might be going on. This is no frills, no BS interest in actually restoring your gear to prime working condition! Ive had pieces repaired---with fair warning that parts might be expensive (they werent)--and Ive also had the opposite experience: being sent away with a working piece of equipment that I had erroneously thought to be broken! No money changed hands in this instance (I offered to pay), and no judgement made on his part. If you dont know whether something is worth fixing, call. If you get an estimate back, and still dont know if its worth fixing, ask. Jimmy is in it to make sure we all have working AV gear, and I completely trust his judgement. Plus, the new space is much more pleasant to get to!

My 50+ year old dual 1229 turntable had finally decided that all the years of use had quite literally gummed up the works. while it is far more common today to simply toss out old electronics and to replace them with something new, i am a firm believer that something that was built with quality and durability deserves a chance to continue to provide years of service if you are lucky enough to find a craftsman who has the required skills and takes pride in their work. luckily, jimmy at the electronics service center is just that person and he was able to restore my turntable back to its original showroom performance for a very reasonable price and with the knowledge that he stands behind his work. in this age of throwaway culture, i would encourage anyone who has something that either for sentimental reasons or because you know just how well made your equipment is, to consider letting the electronic service center breathe new life into it before you buy something new that was designed to be replaced rather than repaired. I could not be happier and would recommend this wonderful craftsman to everyone I can.

I found ESC doing web research for a reputable repair shop within easy driving distance. My 5 yr. old $$$ Cambridge Audio receiver was out of warranty and had died overnight (power surge?). My retailer referred me to the only US authorized repair (in N.J.) which required me to pay shipping (receiver weighs ~20 lbs.) and a substantial up-front diagnostic fee but seemed to push an offer to provide substantial exchange credit towards the purchase of an equivalent current new model (how would I know it was really new and not recently repaired?) as opposed to repairing my equipment. This was NOT what I was looking for. ESCs web site doesnt mention Cambridge audio and although hesitant, I brought the receiver over. Jimmie was cautiously optimistic and said he was familiar with other U.K. audio products. The $50 diagnostic fee would be applied to the repair charge but returned if he was unable to obtain proprietary parts or do the repair for other reasons. He warned that he was backlogged about 1 month (which I appreciated knowing) but I figured it would be that long or longer if I had shipped the item to N.J. at almost certainly greater total cost. Three weeks later, he called and said it was all fixed and ready for pickup. Hooked it up and demonstrated that it was repaired at pickup. Total cost was $175. Work guaranteed for 6 mos. Item looks, handles, and sounds like new. Im totally pleased and highly recommend ESC even if your unit is not mentioned on his web site. Hes very busy and seems to know what he can probably fix or not fix even before accepting a repair job. Id bet he doesnt want to waste either your time or his! A competent, honest expert charging a fair price. A rare combination these days.

Jimmy is great, he has revived 3 items that had been sitting on shelf for years - an Adcom CD changer, a NAD receiver and, the most difficult, an 1990s Rotel power amplifier. If you have older audio items you would like to rejuvenate this is the place to go.

There are only a handful of places like Electronic Service Center that remain in our entire country. Very few people have the knowledge, skill, patience, and dexterity to fix up and tend to older speakers, receivers, turntables, or whatever retro gear you might be hanging on to. If you are hanging onto an old piece of equipment and have even the slightest desire to get it working again, for nostalgia or any other reason, definitely give ESC a call.I took a Dual 1219 Record Player to ESC in Germantown and Jimmy got this working again like new. For those that dont know, this record player is nearly 50 years old. It had been in my parents basement for nearly 30 years and he was able to replace a part (which is no longer manufactured anywhere) and bring the entire deck back to working order. The pricing was fair and I couldnt be happier to have this old deck playing music again.

At a very fair price, Jimmy has serviced several of my vintage Marantz receivers. Youll be hard pressed to find a more knowledgeable, honest , fair priced, mom & pop electronic repair shop anywhere in the Maryland, DC or northern VA area. Jimmy takes the time (and I mean takes the time) to clearly explain what repairs are necessary. This man actually cares! His pricing is so good, it surprises me how he stays in business. I chalk it up to volume and the fact that Jimmy has repair down to a science. Each time I was there, several people arrived to leave their equipment and at least one person picked up their serviced equipment and thanked Jimmy profusely. Jimmy even told one person that he should not repair his receiver but buy a new one and Jimmy doesnt even sell equipment. Bottom line is that Jimmy specializes in high end audio repair and can repair virtually anything audio related and at fair pricing. FYI: A good while back, Just Audio in Parkville said it would cost $275 for a repair. Took it to Jimmy and paid only $150. Now, I wouldnt trust Just Audio to repair a toaster. Seems they prey on the elderly and people who dont have a clue about vintage electronics. Jimmy rocks!

For warranty work . . . many companies make the end user get the item to an authorized service center on their own, and Onkyo is no different. Had to take the day off work and drove over there. Walk in the door and big relief -- the place looks the part in the best way -- plenty of test equipment, orderly workbenches visible to the customers, units under repair, and fresh neutral smell. The proprietor stopped what he was doing, and asked for the receipt (I knew, and had). He said Onkyo would pay for the return, though I was responsible for the box. He said he would sell me one - a great deal as it turns out -- part of the five star rating is how well he packed the unit. The unit was submitted 20180307, and I got it back 20180327 or ten days. There was a warning to be careful not to short anything, and a sweet invoice for $0 due. I connected everything, and went through the room equalization, and then turn on some music and video and all is working. THANK YOU Highly recommend.

I’ve been looking for reliable local support for vintage stereo without success. Then I stumbled upon positive reviews for this small shop (ESC) near the record and bookstore I frequent. I decided to give ESC a try this April to possibly revive a Harman Kardon HK-730 receiver which, after being stored for more than a decade, had lost channel and scary noise, etc., even after my own attempt to clean it. I have to say that Jimmy was easy and straight-forward in our initial and all subsequent communications. My impression of Jimmy remains that he knows what he’s doing and means what he said. The turnaround time and cost for repair are both reason. Jimmy made sure that the receiver works as he claimed and as specs indicate before I took it back. It has been performed flawlessly and sounded better than I remember.During the repair of the HK-730, my HK-930 suddenly lost sound output from both channels. So after contacting Jimmy, I brought in HK-930 in May for his diagnosis and possible repair. To make the long story short, Jimmy fixed the power supply and I am a happy owner/listener again. I am happy to find Jimmy/ECS as a reliable, competent and reasonable local support for my vintage stereo equipment.

If he cant fix something he will tell you straightaway, but hes always up for a challenge involving old equipment and he clearly has a love and appreciation for well-made sets. He doesnt rip people off for small jobs -- I needed a pin replaced on a small surface mount device, and he did it in seconds. My jobs have involved surplus communications equipment, a bit more of a challenge, but Jimmy is always willing to assess each challenge and provide honest views. This is a small shop located in the Rockville industrial area, you make a left or right from Parklawn, and park in the lot. Apparently ESC is one of the go-to shops for B&O gear. Not long after I picked up my friends turntable another friend gave me an old Marantz quadraphonic receiver that had seen some better days. I fixed a few things on it myself, but when it came to chasing a dropped signal through the preamp section and getting the FM tuner to receive in stereo, I was in over my head. I couldnt be happier with how its working now after several trips to ESC as it was slowly brought online and new issues were found (there were several different, separate problems with this unit when I got it.) Price I thought was quite fair and Jimmy is a cool guy. Ive since taken him an old HK power amp which hes fixed but I havent tested yet and a Luxman receiver which he still has.

Rarely do customer service and quality workmanship go hand-in-hand. Yet Jimmy redefines both. I shorted out my Rotel amp. He repaired it along with upgraded fixes per Rotel bulletins. Jimmy explained what he would do; he did it; and he answered all my questions. If you need electronics repaired, there is only one place to go: Jimmy at Electronics Service Center in Rockville, Maryland.
