My favorite cycling shop for renting kayaks to paddle along the fox river, and for electric bike rentals to ride the trails in Geneva and Saint Charles ill. The owner Bruce is very knowledgeable and professional and would highly recommend everyone to check out this shop

Avoid Mill Race Cyclery at all costs!I purchased 2 bikes a year ago totaling $3,500 for my wife and I. The older gentleman that helped us at the time of purchase was friendly and helpful. This is where my good experience ends.I returned a few weeks later with another rider from my group who was interested in purchasing a new bike. We where helped by a younger associate who treated us with absolute disrespect. We promptly left and my riding mate purchased a $2,500 bike from a store in St. Charles an hour later.Fast forward to last week. I take my bike in for a possible warranty issue, with a wheel. The same younger salesman I dealt with previously tells me they don’t deal with my brand of bike. When I inform him that they sold it to me he, then tells me that I need to check my bike in. They will call me in a few days because it is an involved service. When I asked what is so “involved” he tells me “I have to take the wheel off and let the air out”. After some discussion he very reluctantly agreed to look at my issue at that moment. In total it took him 2 minutes to checkout my issue, once he agreed to look at it. This was the worst experience I have ever had at any bike store!On my way home I stopped at a different bike shop and asked them to look at my issue. Without hesitation they looked at my bike on the spot. They where friendly and most importantly respectful.

A very busy day here as I rolled up with my flat rear tire. The team took noticed, sized up my problem and I was back on the road in about ten minutes. Thank You All!

I am thrilled with Mill Race Cyclery. I was looking for a road bike in June, but nothing was available. Bruce and his team had a beautiful Bianci Cross Concept bike that was used, but in mint condition. They gave me a great deal on the bike. Fast forward to September after riding around 650 miles on the bike I noticed that the bottom bracket and crank seemed to be wiggling. I took the bike back to the shop on Saturday morning. They took a look at the bike for me and were able to take apart the crank, tighten the bottom bracket, and put it all back in working order! Best of all, no charge for the work! These guys are great! Thank you Mill Race Cyclery! You have a happy customer in me.

After riding it a couple of times, it just didnt feel right to him. Mill Race didnt hesitate to issue a full refund. Its great to see a local bike shop stand behind their product and do right by their customers! They could have given us 10 different reasons why they needed to issue only a partial refund, but instead they just did the right thing without hassle. Thank you so much!

My husband and I came in because I got a flat tire while riding bikes from St. Charles and Andy could not have been more rude to us. Recommend going across the street to Geneva cycle instead. They were beyond helpful and accommodating.

I was shopping all over about 20 bike shops in the Chicagoland area and I was looking for entry-level road bikes. Came across a great price on a Cannondale, I went over options with Bruce a person I was speaking to you over the phone was very helpful. Once I arrived I was introduced to the gentleman extremely friendly and very easy to work with not a pushy salesman which is what you want. Definitely going back once my kids get older or once I need to upgrade on a bike.

Brought my road bike to Mill Race back in late 2017 had no issues with bike until recently because some cables broke. Brought bike back to Mill Race for service to find out they installed a front derailer that was not compatible. I understand it was 2 years ago but the shop did not want to take ownership for their mistake. Also I was told one price for the work I needed at drop off and was told they would call me if the bike needed more or if it would cost more. Well I picked up my bike today and they charged more than what they originally quoted telling me it needed more work and parts than anticipated. But they never called for authorization to do more that would cost me more. Shady way of doing business. Plenty of bike shops out there, learned my lesson. I will NOT be back!

Stopped in to try on some shoes. My old ones were tight on my right foot, but fantastic on my left. The guy helping me helped me try on several pairs to find the right size. They had to order an odd size, but I just got them and went for a ride. I would absolutely shop here again. It took longer than I wanted for the order to arrive, but theyre not in control of that 100%.

Is that service or what?Ive just moved to the Chicago area for a year and have been looking for a great bike shop to visit and get stuff from. I wasnt dissapointed walking into Mill Race after driving 45 minutes to get there.The only thing I like more than riding is bike shops.Ive ridden all of the world (Lands end to John OGroats, across Ireland, Morocco, around France following the tour a few times and even ridden a fixie from London to Paris. Over the course of years and rides Ive visited more than my fair share of bike shops.I can honestly say that Mill Race is one of the best shops Ive come across , not just for their range (kids through to semi-pro), but also because of their awesome service and range of accessories and clothing.Its also a fantastic location on the Fox river and has a coffee shop that will soon be open again.Dont hesitate to check them out. If youre like me, youll find it difficult to walk out empty handed with so many goodies!

Mill Race is a great all around bike store. It is a friendly store, and a biker friendly store. This is evident the moment I walked through their back doors for our first tandem tune up. The automated door opened appropriately for me to wheel our big two wheeler straight into the shop.Oh, and parking in their lot provided easy load and unload for our bike.Andy seems to be a top notch bike mechanic, with reasonable pricing, and quick turnaround.Our tandem requires a fair amount of attention. Mill Race is our go to bike store.

Knowledgeable, friendly staff - and a real treasure along the bike trail. Rented a couple of e-bikes over the weekend with my wife and had a blast. They take the time to make sure the bike is set up just the way you want it. We rode effortlessly for a couple of hours - so fun. This shop has a large e-bike inventory in great condition.

This is a great bike shop! Im 65 years old and just getting back to biking. I rented a bike a couple of times, a Townie, that I was interested in getting. I liked that it was easy on my knees and comfortable to ride. When I finally decided to get one, Bruce answered all my questions about the bike. I attempted to purchase a bike computer for my wife for Christmas. I gave the kid a very detailed explanation of how it would be used and where it would be installed. It did not work, the range was not far enough for the wireless. I brought it back, and the owner said he would exchange it for one that would work. He made us pay for the balance of the upgraded one right then. Told us two days it would be in. 2.5 weeks later, 4 phone calls, 3 emails we initiated to follow up with no responses. It finally arrived and I told them Id be in to pick it up. Employee says we did not pay, I asked to call Bruce, he refused. Walked away and said deal with Bruce. These people are not competent, their service is terrible, and attitude worse. Bicycle Heaven is right across the bridge, they are always good, just didnt have the brand I wanted. Save the hassle, go there, go to Sammys, go anywhere but here.

I have been to several bike shops in the past year as me and my son are now HOOKED on biking since last year, My son has been wanting a road bike for over a year and I have been literally everywhere. I could not find another bike shop that had the selection at the price I needed for my son then Mill Race. Not only did they put the road bike on lay away for me, they also helped me surprise my son when he came into the store and had the bike ready to go with very short notice....Oh ya...and also modified the bike so my 10 year old son could ride it properly!! Since then I have purchased another road bike from Mill Race Cyclery with another great experience. I was a retail store owner myself and appreciate good service. From the store owner to the staff, these guys are in it for the right reasons. A++

My wife and I dropped in to look at bikes. It was Saturday and busy, but after a few minutes a sales person asked us if we needed any help. He directed us to a couple of bikes that were in our budget and let us take them out for a ride. He answered all our questions and we bought the bikes that day because he was so helpful and we just couldnt wait to get out and ride them. He also threw in a free tune-up for each bike. Thanks for the friendly service!

I wanted to buy my first road bike, didnt want to pay a ton for anything crazy I didnt need, but wanted everything I did. Nick T walked me through the entire process and had me ride a few bikes to make sure I had the right one. He got me set up with a bike, shoes, petals, shorts and a helmet and out the door at about what I wanted to spend. The guys even stayed about 30 minutes after the shop closed to get everything installed on the bike... and didnt make me feel like I encroached on their weekend. Thank you - hope to see you at a ride sometime soon.

Super friendly owner, very nice and accommodating, gives tons of information. Nice shop, well stocked with lots of bikes.

They wont schedule a time to look at the bike. They make you leave your bike there for a week or more so they have it when theyre ready to look at it. Its all about whats convenient for them.Ill go somewhere else rather than being without my bike during the best time of the year to ride it. All I ask is that they commit to a time so I can have my bike until then. Ill even drop it off a day or two early, but not a week or more! They dont get it.

I bought 2 bikes from them this summer (2014) totaling $3500. At the time of the second purchase I rode an older mountain bike there and left it while I rode new bike home. They said they would clean it for me. When I returned to pick up mountain bike they charged me a tune up fee of $90. I understand that people mis communicate so I asked if I could speak to the owner since he is who agreed to clean up old bike but he was not there and they would not let me take bike home without paying. I paid the $90 and asked that the owner contact me. Several days went by and no call so I followed up and left another message. Another several days went by and not call. I called a final time and while he was there, he claimed to be with a customer and I was told he would get back to me, never got a call. If I mis understood our agreement fine, but the fact that the owner refuses to call me back makes me question these guys. There are a lot of good bike shops out there, unfortunately Mill Race Cyclery is not one.

Great people here! Had A great experience here especially compared to some of those other bike shops where you are pressured to buy.

I have been a customer of Mill Race Cyclery since the early 80s. They have done exceptional work at reasonable pprices for me, and never had a problem. I am now purchasing a new Trident Chameleon tandem recumbent trike from them for near $6000 and am very comfortable with my expectations of their service over the coming years. Highly recommend them for any bike purchases or repairs. PS I am also the VP of the Elmhurst Bicycle Club with over 500 members, and never have heard a negative comment on this shop.
