We waited 5 hours and decided to leave. We never had a doctor check up on our dog. We weren’t even assigned a room to stay in. We were the first to be there before they were busy. They gave the patients after us a room. I understand if a patient is badly injured, however some families who didn’t have pets in critical condition still had a room. Not sure if it’s because they’re white, but it felt pretty unfair that my family had to stay in the waiting room and never got checked up on. Also, THEY ONLY HAVE ONE DOCTOR. For an emergency clinic, you guys need to have multiple. My dog is still hurt.

Friendly staff, fast and efficient care. My dog needed surgery and they took great care of her! Im so thankful for this place! I couldn’t get any other vets in the area to see her in a timely manner. It was also super convenient that they were open all night. I was there at 7 when they opened and my dog was being examined within 20 minutes. They were also quite thorough with her post-op instructions and walking me through the care she would need at home. I highly recommend!

My primary vet had me take my 4 month old kitten here on Saturday due to an extremely high temperature. Everyone was great with us during the visit. Our little guy had to spend the night there but I was kept up to date with information from the vet. When we picked him up on Sunday evening they were very helpful and gave great discharge instructions. True there are long wait times here but it is just like a human ER, the most severe patients have to be treated first. I sat in the waiting room for an hour to pick up my kitten and watched the amount of sick animals coming in on a Sunday evening. I saw how caring the employees are here with every person that arrived. The employees here are wonderful and are working long hard shifts to provide the best care for the animals brought to them.

I brought my dog here a few nights ago for reduced mobility and pain after having a cast put on his leg 5 days prior for presumed fracture. I expressed concerns that he seemed to be getting worse, and was no longer able to get outside to potty. I waited SIX hours after being one of the 1st to check in. I was told your dog is the most stable pet here, you are welcome to leave. I was even admonished by a girl at the front desk for discussing my wait time with another customer, and again told I could leave if I was unhappy. They gave him a shot of methadone, and they said he was probably just sore from the weight of the cast. He was so drugged I couldnt get him out of the car, and he had to be carried inside. The next morning he was still in the same place, and absolutely refused to go outside. Finally that evening, after he hadnt peed in over 24 hours, I took the cast off, because I loathed returning to this ER. Once it was off, he was moving around better, and I was able to get him outside. Today we followed up with his vet to come up with a new plan. He has an infection in his elbow. I am livid that this ER didnt do more for my dog, I am a Nurse Practitioner, and the 1st rule is ALWAYS LISTEN TO THE PARENT. Instead I was blown off and made to feel like a worry wart. I will never return to this clinic.Update 7/1: I had to say goodbye to my pup today because he had actually had cancer. Shame on the staff for not listening to my concerns that something else was going on. This is exactly what I was worried about :-(

Im grateful that they saved our 4 legged child. But they are extremely under staffed & it was frustrating to see the staff struggling to assist customers due to this issue. And unfortunately it made things uncomfortable for all of those to witness. It was difficult to see staff talking about other customers to staff or those waiting to be seen. I understand that emergencies will come 1st. What was upsetting was hearing staff speaking about what was/wasnt emergencies amongst others. There are ways to share what is considered top emergency w/o belittling pet owners who love their fur babies and are willing to pay high cost to help them. I would call to check in on status of my fur baby & be left on hold for 30 minutes. I feel for the cost of their services they should have called with daily updates. After witnessing firsthand such events as detailed I dont know that I could in good faith recommend their facility to others. I say this having experienced another hospital in the Richmond area. My ability to compare my experience with 2 situations & 2 different emergency services made it possible to give a true comparison of my visit. I understand in our current new normal of the Covid19 nightmare it adds to the pressure to serve the public. What I cant overlook is the treatment of their customers and how they were talked to. It was tough to witness. It was hard to sit silence watching this horrific behavior of their staff.

At 10pm we inquired and were told they were clearing rooms and 1 animal was ahead of us and would be in shortly. At 11pm we inquired again and were told there are 1-2 animals ahead of us with no time frame. We left at 1115pm to drive home. Our puppy ended up contracting Parvo from her breeder. She was declining quickly one night and VVC was the only hospital that was accepting patients that night. We made the long drive and called to start the check-in process. The folks at the front were so kind and made a stressful night easier to navigate. I told them I suspected Parvo, so they did her vitals and test in our car. When she came back positive, the vet called and gave a prognosis of 50-50 as what she usually tells patients, but assured that most times outcomes are way better especially since we brought her in early. I was a wreck, but a staff member came out in protective gear and gently picked my baby up. She stayed overnight and was discharged the next day as she appeared to be fine to both the staff and me.Within the first few hours of us being home she began to decline again. She was going through the normal phase of Parvo where it gets really bad before their immune system kicks in. We had her re-admitted and they suggested a few days stay to watch her and give supportive care. I was able to call at any point to check in on her and was given many updates when a vet was available and not attending to an emergency. The vets gave me very detailed explanations of costs and procedures with recommendations that made sense. After a total of 5 days, we had our baby back and on the way to recovery. Our little baby beat Parvo and we have VCC and my puppy’s tenacity to thank.I can’t thank all the staff enough. I remember when I had to bring her back in the second time there an older man behind the counter who recognized that we were just there. After explaining everything he expressed his condolences and said “people like you make this job worthwhile. I can really tell you care about your pup and want to save her”. I had to keep myself from crying, but I really appreciated the compassion at that moment. While this hospital is a bit of a drive for us (which they also considered as part of my dogs care plan), it’s worth it knowing my puppy will be taken care of with the same level of attention I give her. at the sameIt is expensive but the vet is expensive in general. I suggest all pet owners get insurance for their babies to cover these types of costs. All of her treatments, meds, etc came to about $10K but with insurance we got 90% of it back.

My daughter brought her cat, who had gotten her paw ripped off accidentally getting it caught in the fence, to the Virginia Veterinary center the other day. They took her back and told my daughter they needed to keep her overnight. When she came back to get her the next day, she was told that Jim, that’s the cats name, needed her leg amputated but she was about to have kittens any day so they couldnt do it that day. They bandaged up the paw and gave her medication and told my daughter to bring Jim back in a couple of days to change the bandage. My daughter was charged $2000!!!! No operation yet. A couple days later my daughter brought Jim back, and was told they were going to have to sedate her to replace the bandages and it was gonna cost another $200. She said that was too much and asked if they could just refill the prescription and she would take her somewhere else. Then she was told she would be charged $50 for a visit before they could refill the prescription. They didn’t care about Jim, or the pain she was in, it was more important to get more money out of my daughter. She actually walked out and then looked for another place to take Jim. St. Francis had an appointment so she took Jim There. They were amazing. They examined Jim, replaced the bandage, without sedation, gave her new medication, all for $150, which of course included the office visit since they had never seen Jim before. She was told that they could do the operation for $2000, which Virginia Veterinary center was gonna charge $6000, but since Jim was a stray there was a place that was a lot less expensive, and they would help her get the appointment. It is now only gonna cost $800. Oh and when my daughter brought Jim back to St. Francis again for another bandage change, it only cost her $20. St. Francis has been so helpful and caring, I can’t say the same for Virginia Veterinary Center. They care more about the money. The emergency visit is kind of understandable but after that, they weren’t even trying to be understanding or wanting to help my daughter. I would never send anyone there.

I made an appointment for my sweet little boy to have an ultrasound done. A recommendation by his primary doctor. When I got to the center, Dr. Austin had her consultation with me about my little boy. Within five minutes shes telling me I should take my little boy off his heart medicine and she may need to sedate him during the ultrasound. WHAT? Dr. Austin had only seen my sweet baby for the first time and only had recent medical records of his. I wish I had listened to my gut, and left the center with my sweet baby. I decided to get the ultrasound, thinking it would benefit my baby.I was told it would be a couple hours. This was around 11am. Three hours later I entered the center and asked about my baby. I was told by the receptionist I would have to come back at 6pm. It took several attempts of being persistent and on the verge of calling the police to get my sweet baby. I explained he hasnt eaten since the night before and he needs his medication. I finally got him and we went home. The next morning he was non- responsive, wouldnt eat or drink. I realize this can be common with some medical procedures, but not with an ultrasound. My sweet baby got worse. When I called the center to ask Dr. Austin if she had given my baby anything during the ultrasound, her comment to me was, if you have a concern about your dog, then take him to his primary doctor. She didnt ask what was wrong with him. I did take my baby to his Doctor . They couldnt understand why he was so non-responsive,weak, and limp. The doctor did what she could. My sweet baby died the next morning. I will never know what happened to him at that center. I can only tell my story. My husband and I have asked for an investigation to be done, in hopes to find some answers. We spoke to Ashley, who said, It would be a couple of days for the office in Richmond to do the investigation. That was on the 19th of April. Its now the 29th of April. Additionally, another patient whose dog had JUST got operated on by this same clinic came in per their recommendation because the dog as throwing up and got 0 empathy or assistance. This is such a poorly run place with absolutely A-holes working the front desk. Literally every vet or animal hospital in the area refers people here and they have 1 doctor working on a Saturday? We ended up driving to the Virginia Beach area to find an open vet center where we could be seen and on the way back we got a call saying “your prescriptions are ready and you paid on the low end of our estimate so when can you come pay the remain balance”. My dog ate a whole diaper. Diapers are very dangerous to dogs and would have likely caused an obstruction in the intestine or stomach which could be fatal if not treated right away. I waited for 2.5 hours before a doctor looked at him, which is fine, I understand there are traumas and animals that need to be kept stabilized. But the doctor looked at my dog for EXACTLY two minutes. 7:22 om - 7:24 pm. They told me he was acting fine and recommended bulking his food to help it pass. They did not try to induce vomiting or do x rays. In fact, I was advised not to do x rays by the doctor because it would have been a waste of money. The next day I called another vet clinic for a second opinion. I was told to get an ultrasound/x ray done right away. I took my dog to a different emergency clinic in Manassas who did ultrasounds and x-rays. They were able to induce vomiting and he was able to puke up almost all of the diaper before it caused any damage in his stomach and intestines and ultimately helped him avoid an invasive surgery and other health complications. These were all pro-active medical approaches that should have taken place at the Virginia Veterinary Center 36 hours earlier. I understand ERs get busy, but I do not believe that is a good enough excuse to neglect proper medical care, or at least a referral to another clinic if you do not have time to properly treat a pet.

Had to bring my cat here for a urinary blockage. The vet and all of the staff are incredibly caring and helpful. They dont make you feel rushed and they answer all of your questions regarding your pets plan for care. The prices are expected for an emergency room and the staff give an estimate before treatment begins.

This veterinary office was awesome and instrumental in the care of my 2 kitties following a vehicle crash all 3 of us were involved in. My deepest thanks goes out to this vet and everyone involved in the response to my situation including the Spotsylvania County Sheriffs Dept. who transported Smokey and Bandit to get medical care. I cant say it enough how great everyone was to Smokey and Bandit!

My nearly 17 year old Chihuahua named Simba developed a massive growth in his abdomen. I was referred to a surgeon, Dr. Jennifer Au, at VA Veterinary Centers in Central Park (Fredericksburg). She performed abdominal surgery with splenectomy on June 9, 2021. She removed the massive growth, Simbas spleen, and a growth on his liver and another in his intestines. The surgery took 2 hours. Despite Simbas advanced age and significant heart murmur, he survived the operation and is recovering nicely. I had a problem with a front desk employee who was rude, unprofessional and overcharged me for services, but that was resolved when I submitted a complaint to her supervisor. The growth that was removed from Simbas intestines was identified as cancerous and Im awaiting the analysis of the specific type so that I can decide how to proceed. Overall, I found Dr. Au to be an excellent surgeon with a wonderful bedside manner. She called me on her day off to check on Simba. She truly cares for animals and people.

A box fell on my dog. I waited for her to be seen for 30 minutes. That was fine. They had her back for about 10 minutes this was a little after 9pm. They brought her out and said she was in pain but nothing appeared to be broken. They asked if I would like them to give her a shot of pain medicine. Of course I said yes. So back, in the back the go. They brought her out and said the doctor would be with me shortly. It is now 2 minutes until 11. I still haven’t seen the doctor

The most Professional Staff of Veterinarians and Veterinary Technicians, I have ever seen. They saved my dogs life. He went into a cluster of seizures, and they met me at the door to take him back and treat him immediately. I didnt even call to let them know the situation was even occurring, but their quick attention to detail at the time of my arrival, saved Peppers life.

My 3 year old pitbull developed severe life threatening Pyometra symptoms at 2:00AM & my husband rushed her to this emergency vet. All the nurses were kind, caring and personable. They kept in constant contact with my husband and myself. My pup had to undergo emergency surgery that same morning. When we got the update that she was out of surgery, we were told that she was being taking care of and monitored in the critical care unit. The nurses were patient and informative when I called frequently with questions and for updates. When my dog was released, they provided detailed discharge instructions and advised that I could call with any questions, which I of course did. Each time I called, the nurses, again, were professional, kind, patient and very informative. The doctors and staff at VVC in Central Park saved my pups life. We are so thankful and appreciative. I hope I never have to, but I would 100% bring my pets here again if I needed to. Thank you!

My family and I would like to thank the ladies who showed compassion while we needed to say our final goodbye to our beautiful boxer, 12 yr old boy Sarge. I believe I spoke to Ashley on the phone to discuss what we decided to do.She explained everything. Once we arrived, these ladies gave us a private room and alot of time to let our Baby go. Many thanks to the Veterinarian who spoke so softly, and showed empathy throughout this heartbreaking process. Thank you again.

We brought our beloved German Shorthair to the clinic with acute breathing problems the evening of January 25th. We were seen right away and it was determined that she had congestive heart failure. With her age and other extenuating health issues, we decided to let her die in peace. The Dr. and staff were just wonderful and caring to both our pet and us. We really appreciated the compassion that we saw given to our Heidi.
