As always my experience here was top notch. I have rescued two animals from here, the staff is always wonderful and they try very hard to help with whatever you need. My last visit here was a very sad one as I was taking one of my animals to start his journey to his final resting place. Tina was so nice and took such great care of my boy during and after this very hard and sad time. I give all of them so much credit and thanks for the work they do. I will always come here for my adoption choices should I decide our family needs an addition but for now Ill just say thank you for your kindness and thank you for helping lost souls find their home. You are all amazing. 💙

I adopted two Kittens about two and a half years ago, who are now registered as my emotional support companions.(When I adopted my babies, the supervisor kindly waived all of the adoption fees). Which was very nice of her. When I had moved, my grey tabby cat had stepped out of my new place of residence and went missing for almost 6 months, I was very devastated. When I called LCDAS to file a report, they were very helpful and provided me with as much information that gave me allot of hope. I sent out flyers, followed up with LCDAS every week, and even made posts and pictures on social media. Eventually a Lady brought my baby to LCDAS and the same day a Officer was at my door and I received a notice that my baby had been found and is waiting to be picked up. They waived all the fees upon my arrival and updated my companions shots at no cost. I greatly appreciate the services provided by LCDAS and I highly recommend and encourage anyone to adopt a Kitten/Cat from LCDAS. You will have a forever friend/companion who will show you endless love and appreciation!

I love this place because it brought a guardian, a protector, a very good girl, & most importantly a bestfriend into our lives. While we are still suffering immensely because of her sudden and way to soon departure from us, we still cherish every moment of the 6 short years we got to spend with her. There is a Roxy Pooh sized hole in our family now and she will be sorely missed everyday by all of us until we see her again.

My application for adopting a badly injured cat we brought in was denied. First thing Kourtney at intake accused me of not having my cat at home up to date on rabies because it wasnt in their system. She was wrong. He was up to date. She also accused me of lying about owning only 2 cats at home because my records show Ive brought in feral cats in the past for TNR (the R stands for release) and I’ve fostered many kittens. When I got home an animal control officer showed up to inspect our home. We let him in and he remarked how clean and well taken care of our 2 (TWO) happy cats were. When we called about the injured cat, Melissa lied and said she didnt know if the cat was still there. It took days for Melissa to tell us our application was denied and come to find out the cat hadnt been there. Because of his injury we are very afraid he was euthanizd since this shelter is known for that. I asked Melissa the reason for denying our application and she was vague. I told her by law she has to give me a reason. She stated some reasons that didnt make sense so I asked for copies of all the records. 2 days later she emailed them to us. There were blatant lies told of things We never said to deny my application. So I called Lee County Attorneys office who said she will call over there and talk to Melissa and the Director Pablo. She asked what outcome I wanted and I said anyone who intentionally lies on the job should be fired and she agreed. There seems to be no oversight or ethics at this government agency.

My neighborhood has had quite an issue with (non domesticated) cat interbreeding. It took me years of living in Fort Myers to discover Domestic Animal Control Services. (Dont bother requesting any roving Animal Control trucks to resolve issue.) Back to point. Last two years Ive captured 16+ cats and brought to Lee County Animal Control. Also, this year Ive also trapped [packaged] minimum 4 kitten/cats for neuter/ spay and have two more feelings booked for neuter. Program: Catch and Release requires that we make an appt, carry in the cat (approved cage), and pick up same day. This service is No Fee. Donations appreciated.

To whom this may concern,Very upsetting when I called to report a stray that got hit by a car and was told they could not do anything about this since it was not contained. How am I supposed to contain a dog that’s scared and in pain?! Cindy was no help on the phone. I’ve called plenty of other times about strays and they send a dispatch within the area and look for the dog. That’s your job right? I don’t have the proper tools like the animal officers do. I’m not putting myself in danger when that’s your job! I can’t believe they’ll just let the poor dog suffer. So upset with LCDAS. I’ve never had an experience like I just did.

A very sweet girl named Periwinkle was euthanized even though the person who found her was willing to foster. Before they brought her in, they asked if there was any way they could hold on to her until the owner was found or until a rescue was able to take her in. They were told she had to come to the shelter, but they would be able to foster her after the 3 day hold period. After bringing her in, they were told LCDAS didnt have a foster program, but not to worry because they have many rescue partners. They followed up with LCDAS many times and even told them that they reached out to rescue who is willing to pull her if needed. LCDAS of course said there was nothing to worry about, shes doing fine and we have plenty of space. Turns out they lied and the poor girl who was listed as very sweet, was put down (without reaching out to a rescue) for being aggressive.Anyone who works with animals knows dogs can get kennel aggressive over time. Theyre afraid and have no idea whats going on.So knowing that and knowing you euthanize them when they out of nowhere turn aggressive, why make them sit in a shelter when someone is willing to foster them and a rescue is willing to pull them? The county ordinance for Stray dogs to be turned over to Lee County Domestic Animal Services needs to be removed if this is how they handle things.

I can’t speak on behalf of cats and dogs getting adopted here but my experience getting a rabbit was a nightmare. From the get go I should’ve known something was wrong when I went into see Pinky and she was being fed from a bottle, like a hamster, rather than a bowl. Rabbits can dehydrate easily like that. And from the way her litter box was set up, her feet were stained yellow from standing in her own pee. Another red flag should’ve been with the spay, they didn’t provide pain medication after the treatment. Veterinarians that are experienced with rabbits will provide 3 days of metacam post op. Rabbits are sensitive creatures and pain can prevent them from eating which causes GI problems. The BIGGEST reason is that I apparently unknowingly adopted an older sick rabbit. 2 weeks after I adopted my precious angel, Pinky, she had stopped eating her hay even though she should’ve fully recovered from surgery. I went into Medlin Exotics and explained to them the situation, their veterinarian told me she had abscesses, an infection sacs of white blood cells and pus, in her belly area. They suggested I go back over here since LCDS agreed to cover the surgery as long as they got to do it. When I brought Pinky over to LCDS they told me there was no hope and that they were going to put her down. I still don’t know how this happened, I really thought I was doing the right thing by adopting from here. I thought I would be giving this healthy happy young adult rabbit a furever home just for her to be taken away from me like this. They tried to tell me I should get a new rabbit from them but I don’t know if I should after this. I don’t what to believe, my heart is broken. I’m giving them a few stars because they didn’t charge me but was the low cost of adopting a rabbit here really worth my stress and sadness?

Have completely lost faith in lcdas. They lied over and over. They were intentionally deceptive to get me to take responsibility for a fiv trapped cat. Did not do their job. Did not provide any record of what they did or did not do to shield their incompetence. Beware. Will never adopt from them again. Dont volunteer and have your name attached to them. Very Very disappointed. Beware. Beware. Beware. Do not donate. They are abusing your tax dollars now. Decades in this county and never such a poor experience! Do not trust their medical evaluation or communication. They lie!

Last year, we found a cat that had been hit by a car and was so starved that he was practically skin and bones. After being unable to find a vet that would accept him for treatment, we were referred to Lee County Animal Control. They assessed him and determined that, with surgery for his missing eye and broken jaw, along with pain meds and antibiotics, he would be able to eat and regain enough weight to be adoptable. I decided to foster him during his recovery and, after many LCAC vet check ups and additional treatment, we adopted him two months later. The staff at LCAC is truly amazing! They are very compassionate, knowledgeable and patient. Had they not agreed to take him in and perform surgery, he wouldn’t have made it. It was a breeze to work with the foster center and vet clinic. Every question I had was met with a quick response and every time he needed immediate care during his recovery, they made time for him. I HIGHLY recommend utilizing LCAC if you need help with an animal, want to foster or adopt, or need to rehome an animal. I also HIGHLY recommend investing in them by donating what you can, whether it be money, blankets, toys, food, etc. These people are heroes!
