Scott the owner of this company is not only rude and unhelpful but also negligent. The vessels he has to offer are barely sea worthy and Scott will just tell his customers “That’s your problem”. Our family made it backs safely but if we didn’t have a mechanic on board I’m not sure that would have been the case. Brian is the heart and soul of this business. He was only person who was helpful or seemed to care about our families safety. Once we made it back to Fun in Sun and made Scott aware of all the problems we encountered his response was to come out of his office and yell at our crew and captain. Scott is unprofessional, uncaring, and rents out unsafe vessels.Thank you for your reply. Upon our return we gave you a long list of the problems we encountered and repairs that were made. You habitually deflect responsibility on to customers. Repairs were made to the motors and generators several times. The bathrooms had repeated problems, repairs were made, one would not drain properly for the entire trip which meant no showers. You were contacted to ask for a recommendation for a local company to help un-foul the prop and you acted like it was an absurd request. I’m not sure how you justify your behavior or business practices to yourself but it’s not working for me and I hope others don’t fall for it either.

Our boat tour with Captain Brett was hands down the BEST 4 hours we spent in Key West. From the moment we met Brett at the facility he was extremely professional and knowledgeable. He showed us all of the best spots that are his favorite to go to including snorkeling by shipwrecks and sandbar hopping that felt more like an oasis. Then on the way home he made sure we had the best view of the incredible sunset. But the best thing of all, he used his gopro to send us the best surprise of all, an edited video of our excursion that we will cherish for a lifetime! Request Brett as your captain and you are GUARANTEED the best time ever! Thank you for the incredible experience!

Another amazing vacation for our family! Fun in the Sun Yacht Charter is an excellent charter company. “FreeBird” was the perfect size for all 9 of us. The catamaran was great for cruising, fishing, exploring, offered a lot of room for dinning both in and outdoors, and most of all great space for Family Game Night. The catamaran was new, clean, and very well maintained. The Fun in the Sun Yacht Charter team were very professional, knowledgable, and anytime we had questions…Always Available. I took my family on a sailing vacation on a boat we chartered from the nice folks at Fun in the Sun. Scott and Brian went out of their way to make sure everything was ready. We had a perfect week on the water with no issues with our boat, Freebyrd. Everyone at Fun in the Sun was helpful and courteous. It’s 20 minutes from the airport with provisioning and supplies close by. Our charter was not only fun, but stress free!

One of the best places to get a charter if you know how to sail! The rates are great and boats are very well kept - they also have the option for captained charters in case sailing isnt your forte.

We brought our boat in and stayed for 3 days. Scott was very helpful and flexible when we needed to show up a day later. During our stay we had a lot of special requests that Scott and his crew answered and gave us everything we needed.The location was great with stores and rental car places close, and being able to park a car literally right next to the boat was a huge bonus that made loading and unloading better than we could have hoped.

This was a frustrating experience. Arriving at the dock appeared to finally spur the employees in to doing the general maintenance that should have been completed prior to arrival. The generator on Lucy 2 didn’t work. We had called and they were provided a solution that was impossible to fix based on what was provided on the boat. While on charter we lost a cushion and were charged $350 for a cushion that clearly was worth $75. In order to get our security deposit back it was necessary to continuously call. The staff were disrespectful with our concerns about the boat. Overall we were treated poorly. For such an expensive trip it was truly a let down. Use this company if you would like to be lied to and disrespected. We will never say anything good about this company and strongly dissuade others from using it.

Scott, Mike and Karin are easy to work with and a great staff maintaining an amazing fleet of boats that are constantly being upgraded. We had a chance to take a 44 foot Lagoon to Bimini for a week and it was amazing. The boat was amazing. The prices are the best in Florida. I highly recommend taking one of these beautiful boats on your next charter!

Great experience overall. Scott, the owner of the company, was very knowledgable, and really helped make this trip fantastic. Our captain was superb. He really showed us the ropes when it came to sailing (pun intended). Nine of us did a bareboat charter for 10 days last month from Fort Lauderdale to Key West and back on Lagoon 450F “Free Bird.” We had a fantastic time, spending six nights at anchor and four nights in marinas, while snorkeling at seven sites on the Florida Reef. The boat was very clean and performed well, both under sail and power. This was our first time sailing these waters, and Scott was very helpful with itinerary planning and advice, while Karin was great with logistics. If you are an experienced skipper and would like to have a fantastic sailing vacation at a fair price, we recommend Fun in the Sun Yacht Charters.

Customer beware! First off, our experience sailing on Kiss, a Lagoon 410 was wonderful. Being in the charter business ourselves and having a lot of experience sailing on catamarans, made our trip with our kids absolutely amazing, even though the smell of mold in the aft cabin from the apparent stained water leaks on the ceiling was a bit overwhelming to sleep with. The rating of one star is completely earned by the management of Fun in the Sun Charters, which will hold you responsible for pre-existing damages and make sure you dont get a single dime back of your deposit. Claim for damage that we did not do, and normal wear and tear on a charter boat that is pretty imperfect, is completely unreasonable. If you use this company, make sure you go through the boat with a fine tooth comb and document/report and anything you see before you leave the dock.

Our captain Rick was amazing and did his best to give us a great time and have a good experience. Unfortunately, the owner of this business was so rude before we even arrived when we called in to ask about the storms that were in the forecast and again when arrived. The storms did affect our experience as he water was rough and a few of the people with us got sick not only from the water but because we had to move in and out of the cabin due to rain.

We had a perfect experience with Scott the owner and John our captain. The boat was great, Ciao Italia, a Lagoon 440. Everything was clean, on time, professional, and curteous, which can be tough in the sailing business. We already scheduled another trip and were welcomed with open arms. Rented a sailboat from Fun in the Sun summer pasted. The boat was USED not as nice as the pics. First walked into the office to see the owner chastising another renter ,bad vibes on vacation, made talking and dealing with him weird. boat had a few mechanical issues but our captain worked thru them.We returned the boat early and we charged as per agreed ,Good Dealing nothing sideways.

Tropical Disturbance Nate was announced on the news to effect South Florida to include the areas of Ft. Lauderdale and Miami and a small craft advisory warning was put into effect. I called Fun in the Sun Yacht Charters and spoke to the owner about the weather and wanting to cancel. He said the weather was fine, despite my explaining about the forecast, and that he would charge my card regardless if I showed up at 11am or not for the sail. We ended up showing up for the sail and proceeded to have extreme weather conditions while on the boat. Our captain did the best he could to navigate the waters but there were many times he said it was unsafe conditions and we needed to sit in the cabin until it passed. Many of my girls on the trip were violently ill, including one of my pregnant guests. We were unable to anchor as was planned as part of the itinerary because the weather was too unstable. The owner / management was rude and disrespectful and insulted me multiple times during the brief conversations we had. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND AT ALL.

Captain rick was awesome but the management was terrible! We asked prior to our time slot if we should cancel because of weather conditions and were made to feel silly. There was a tropical storm and many women got sick because of the rough waters.

Ive chartered from Fun in the Sun 4 times, and Im going again in August. They arent a first tier charter company, meaning the boats arent new like they are from the big charter companies in BVI. The boats are good boats though. Not perfect, but good. And believe me, the moment the dock lines come off, youll never see the imperfections in the boat again. Youll only see amazing sailing off Ft Lauderdale, the Keys, and Bimini. Every person Ive taken with me has said its the best vacation of their life.

We rented a 46 leopard.. The boat sail well but maintenance is average... The low score is all due to the person owning and running this business... He lost it two times with us. Started telling and abusing. He should not be in this business... We made a list of things that should be looked into since we had an expert mechanic inboard and Scott started yelling... When we came we politely told them the lifejackets looked old.. Response yelling.. I saw another traveller had the same experience.. Not possible

The workers are very knowleable, informative and helpful. I think Scott had to get up to meet our return in the early ours! Ive chatered two different 44 catamrans, while not brand new, they are very functional , safe and overall more comfortable than a I would feel on a brand new boat on the ocean voyages to Bahamas or Biscayne Bay. Most charter companies want you to stay in their bay. Will see them again at New Years 2018!

All I can say is BEWARE. We got pictures of the boat when it was new so dont expect to get what you see. The guy that owns/manages the charter company is the most irritating, bad tempered guy you could ever meet and blames everything on the client. The owner of the boat we rented lives in Canada and either he is cheap or doesnt realize that his boat isnt being maintained. I can say the workers at this company are very likable.We were referred to this company from a business collegue of my sons and we should have listened to her when she said that they would probably charter from someone else the next time.....but we didnt.In spite of the problems and aggravation, we had a great time but listen when I say that well never use this company again.

Ive been working as a captain for Fun in the Sun for a few months now and have worked with other charter companies in the Caribbean. There has recently been a few negative reviews on here (Jenn, Emily, Angelica, Stephy, Lyndsey, and Alaina (all on the same charter)) in which I was the captain of the vessel. I appreciate the positive feedback but would like to clear up a few things with regards to weather and operation. First off, I provided a few options for the group to stay on the inter-coastal or to go out of Port Everglades inlet and get the sails up in order for the group to get good pictures. The decision was made by you to go sailing and that is what we did. It is difficult for people who dont have much boating experience to put into perspective how the weather was that day, as well as the motion of the boat, but I assure you conditions were very very far from dangerous or unsafe and I never once described the situation that way. Seas were about 2-3 feet and my wind guage floated between 8 and 13kts, going up to 17kts for a few minutes when one rainshower went by. Its also difficult to predict who might get sea sick and who might not, but if people are prone to seasickness that should be a consideration before a decision is made to go sailing. Also I never asked anyone to stay in the cockpit because it was dangerous, only because I was unfurling the headsail and as a precautionary measure Ive always asked all my groups to go to the cockpit because there can by lines and sails flapping around and I always like to avoid any chance of an accident. If you remember as soon as this was over I told your group to go back onto the trampoline and you did. We could not anchor on the way in because we were running out of time. It is a 4 hour charter and with the group showing up 45 minutes late, as well as having to catch the bridge openings, and go sailing, there simply wasnt enough time. There were two storms that passed over us and gave us some rain and extra wind. Ive lived in south florida almost my entire life and will be the first one to tell you that what we experienced on this day was typical south florida weather in the summer. Unfortunately some days are worse than others. I was a little surprised to see your reviews because at the end of the day when we arrived at the dock I recall everyone saying they had a great time and the few who were seasick felt better the moment we entered the inter-coastal again. Anyway, Im sorry that you all feel that way, I enjoyed having you guys on the boat and Im thankful that you guys feel I was a good captain. I hope that the rest of your trip went well. I felt that I needed to write something on here to give an honest and accurate representation of Fun in the Sun.

Our group tried to cancel due to a known weather disturbance yet company would not refund the deposit. Despite having a very great and helpful captain, the ride was awful and several in our party got sick.

The captain was very nice, but the owner was difficult to deal with and took us out in known bad weather where a few of us got sick because the water was so choppy.

Fort Lauderdale is the ideal starting point for a sailing tour of the Bahamas. That starts with the much better and also much cheaper food and fuel costs and last but not least there is really everything in Fort Lauderdale that makes a sailors heart beat faster. Then a charter company like Scott and Karins and the vacation can only be perfect. We found a perfect catamaran (Mintaka). This was explained to us in detail and then came a very good briefing from Scott. Tips on secluded beaches and good restaurants. We will definitely book a catamaran again with Fun in the Sun. 7 out of 5 stars.
