Could use some renovation and ushers to help with seating. Great show, though.
Going to the Whiting is like going to visit family. My children, as part of the Flint Institute of Music, have participated in several shows since they were little (Nutcracker, Showcase, etc.). The facilities are amazing, the personnel is very friendly, the parking is free, and the shows always cost less than in Detroit. What else can you ask for?And what is nice that every Christmas the decorations change. This year they were beautiful!!
Had a real nice time .
Inside is nice. Outside staircase is falling apart and unsafe.
The Whiting auditorium is a perfect place to see the symphony, a broadway play, the list goes on and on. This is the place to go when you want to see Rent for example but don’t want to spend 100s to go to NewYork. Because it is Flint and not NewYork it is a friendly venue, with quality entertainment.
Had a ball at Kountry Wayne and friends
Because of the staff not checking tickets during entrance for my sons 2018 Swartz Creek High Schools 2018 Graduation, my ex-husband and I were not able to enter the Whiting and had to watch it on a T.V. screen in the Sloan Museum. White ticket holders were to be seated in the Whiting Auditorium and red ticket holders were to be seated in the Sloan Museum. My ex-husband and I both had our white tickets yet still denied entrance because the Whiting Staff let just anyone enter, with or without the proper ticket. My first born child didnt get to hear his family cheer for him as he walked the stage. And because of the set-up inside the Sloan Museum we really didnt get any good pictures of him graduating... I cant believe how the staff handled this event and I will never get a second chance for that special moment in our lives... I will never come back to the Whiting and am now seeking legal advice!
Great venue in the heart of Flint! We attended the Flint Youth Symphony Orchestra concert, another gem in the city. Its nice that the students can play on such a great stage, not a bad seat in the house, and good acoustics all around.
A very old venue. Obviously the decor is outdated, but if you are older like me, you will like it. It is well kept, so it isnt old-threadbare. It is a comfortable venue with good acoustics. I went for an orchestra performance and loved it!
I was very surprised at the venue here. We went for a classical symphony on a Saturday evening in February. The interior of the building is still well kept after all these years, and there isnt really a bad seat in the house, but Id always prefer lower and closer. There is a concession stand for wine, beer, soda, tea, coffee, and a few snacks while you enjoy the show. If you havent experienced a symphony, you are missing a great experience tucked away just a few blocks from the downtown Flint you know.
I just saw the Snap, very boring, skits like a high school play. Very disappointed. I wasted $53.50 on a ticket. I want a refund. There was only 250 tickets sold, now i understand why? Ive never seen so many empty seats. Who booked this act for Whiting? I will investigate reviews of future acts, before i buy tickets.
Great place to see a show. Excellent views from any seat in the house. The acoustics are Great. We have been coming hear for years and will continue to do so.
This was my first time visiting since I was a child. This is really a great venue. Its a bit on the small side, but to me thats part of what makes it great! You are right on top of the stage, and even in the balcony seats you have a clear line of sight to the stage. There arent any really bad seats. The place is beautiful! Its an old theater that has been well cared for over the years and its obvious. The employees are friendly and helpful and really seamed to know what they were doing. Seating and exit were organized and went smoothly. The best thing is, its cheap! Because its a smaller venue and gets funding from a county arts Grant it wont break the bank to buy tickets.
Top notch concert hall with easy parking. Elegant and at the same time accessible and unassuming with smooth, postwar architecture and amenities.Ive spent many happy evening at the Whiting.Symphony, folk dance, musical, local productions, graduations. The Whiting is a gem.
Symphony was outstanding!💖
I liked the venue for the event that I attended. The seats were great because it doesnt matter where you sit... you can still have a wonderful view of the stage.
Been going here since I was a kid. The decor hasnt changed but its pretty timeless. Great shows scheduled every year. Caters to anyone who would like to watch theater no matter your price range. Always a great supporter of youth and community groups.
This is such a great theater. I saw RENT here and the experience was great. Its extremely intimate (and I was toward the back on the main level) and not too loud. This is the place to see a show!
Very pleasant environment here. Definitely dress to your best when attending an event here- the decor alone will likely surpass your fancy apparel. I could stay here for hours just looking around at the lighting and chairs. Theres a corner everyone can get lost in, and Id recommend you arrive 30 minutes early to have a look around.
This was my first time attending an event here since I was a child, but I dont think much has changed. This is a very old theater that has been awesomely maintained for all these years. Its beautiful inside. It feels like youre walking into a turn off the century theater, complete with several balcony rows. Theres a clear line of sight no matter where youre seated or how packed the venue is your seat will be a good one.
Beautiful and classic. Over sized seats and plenty of leg room. Very pleasant and knowledgeable staff. Stellar discounts for Genesee County residents. Valet parking offered for a nominal fee. Plenty of free parking as well.
Very clean & the play was great. Took my mom here for a birthday gift to see the musical “Annie”. She loved it.
#1. I love The Color Purple. #2. Its affordable. #3. Easy parking. #4. Lovely venue. Great place!!
When I went there i saw the rosa parks play the story was incredible and the actors were amazing and the seats were great
Facility is nice, drafty, could be a little more ornate. Symphony was good, special guest was very good but would have preferred other selections .
Show was good. Whiting always fun place to watch live shows
NPR once called it the Whitting on accident but other than that, great place for great entertainment.
New years Eve at the whiting was as good as anywhere else on the planet. great food, great entertainment, great friends. I love wearing a tux and the women were all beautiful.
We just went there last night for the One Night Of Queen performance. The employees were super. Very courteous and friendly. Some of them were even dancing up the aisles during the show. The seating was comfortable. We do wonder why the aisle seats have such a dip in the flooring. Many people were tripping and wondering the same thing. The show was fabulous, but we didnt think the acoustics were real good. The ceilings are very high. The gal who did the introductions could not be heard very well. We were in the orchestra section, so not all that far away from the front. The staff moved us along pretty quickly, so that we were seated by showtime. They were always standing by to help find seats and give direction. We will surely return for other shows.
Doesnt get much better for this kind of entertainment. Venue is always well kept and clean and the variety of shows will keep me coming back. Great experience every time.
The show I seen here was awesome. If I had more money to go to more shows here I would.
Attended my college graduation here. This was my first time visiting. Its a beautiful theater and would love to attend another event here. It was very easy to find as well.
Ive attended The Whiting over most of my life. Plays and musical performances alike. They Holiday Walk is fun for the whole family where the entire Cultural enter is open to the public. So much fun.
I love the architecture here. Saw the Drumlineice it was wonderful my family loved it. I enjoyed seeing the Whiting auditorium its a classic and a piece of history.
This very historical landmark in Flint Michigan its an awesome place to go and see shows, plays, or Entertainmart of any kind. The ushers are very courteous and helpful and will escort you to your seat. Ticket prices vary depending on the event and youre sitting choice.Relax and enjoy the show😎
Parking was confusing. Facility was clean and well maintained. Audience was uncouth and disrespectful. The Nutcracker was excellent!
I have been attending events here my whole life and the excitement never fades. Beautiful as always! Flint is lucky to have you.
Easy to get in and out. Parking was great. Lovely auditorium. Would go to again.
Whatever the event the Whiting is a very special venue. Music, theater or school functions like graduations, whatever the occasion the Whiting offers a pleasant and interesting backdrop of its own. The friendly staff are always will to assist wherever needed.
Great venue! I have been here for numerous events. The graduation was awesome. Stagehands made it all flow perfe
We enjoyed watching and listening to the Nutcracker in this beautiful place.
Cin City burlesque was absolutely stunning. The theater was packed for a wonderful show. They should definitely come back soon!
Very good local venue for live shows. Comfortable and organized.
We love the rich feel of the auditorium and the accoustics.
Beautiful venue! Staff was friendly, place was clean & fancy. Parking was easy.
Saw a showing of The Nutcracker, which was wonderful. However, parking is awful and you have to figure your own way around to finding your seats. They have helpers but they are understaffed.
Unusual setup for a theater. It has 4 balconies! Crazy. Tons of parking. Safe well lit area.
A beautiful auditorium. Ive had the ability to perform here & attend a couple of performances. Completely mesmerizing.
Always enjoy coming here to watch friends and family perform. Great venue. Glad we have a great place like this in Flint.
The building interior is pretty spectacular even if it is beginning to show its age. It harkens back to the old days of Flint in almost every way in its opulence and pride. Support your local arts and see a show, look up inside the auditorium and you will be impressed with its size/architecture for the area! Knocked off one star for the long lines usually for drinks and the obvious lack of updates to the exterior/some of the interior. I get it though, Flint hasnt exactly been flush with cash these past 40 or so years. Will still support this place multiple times annually while living here and so should you.
Beautiful theatre, not a bad seat in the whole auditorium!
Very nice, however the seating could use an update.
Fantastic shows, fantastic staff. All the events they organize and put on are fun and well-run. The interior always seems clean and well-managed and the acts they get are top-notch.
Been going to Whiting since I was a kid. They are a lovely venue and get wonderful shows.
Very well taken care of. Comfortable seats, easy to see the stage and to hear the presenters. Lovely to look at. Easily accessible bathrooms.
The staff was great. The place was not very elegant as I had hoped. Drinks were very expensive.
A wonderful venue to see Rent for the first time. They definitely need to staff the concessions better or have longer intermissions, though.
So many reasons I ve gone there for so many years... Always a great experience.
I a violinist and I play with Flint Symphony. This is a beautiful hall.. I enjoy every moment there.
Wonderful place to take a family . Serves drinks not a bad set in the place to see plays musicals
Great events here. Look for their annual pass program to savings on great shows.
The best place for classical music around. Cozy atmosphere. Decent prices. No parking hassle like at the DSO.
Im so glad this venue is close by. Its a nice theatre and they get top talent shows. I plan to be a regular guest.
Free parking, small venue, great ticket prices. If you are a college student you can get student rush tickets for most shows. Never had a bad experience here.
Beautiful place. A real gem
Great place for fine arts events, motivational speakers, and graduations
A great play about rosa parks.
I love the show what they did today and my daughter was one of the Angels out of the group and I enjoyed the talk what they had I enjoyed the music and actually seeing the pictures of teachers and counselors and people who make things better in life and actually had me emotional I appreciate educator and the Whiting for making my daughter a part of the show
Nice theater. Kept up well.
Saw Jennifer Lewis here! What a treat! Such a beautiful venue and comfortable seating.Hope MCC does more FREE events like this one!
It was beautiful we were on the top floor and there were gorgeous lights and an amazing performance of The Nutcracker.
The Whiting is a beautiful auditorium, and the layout and stage are excellent. They put on lots of good shows and concerts here for area residents. It is a true Flint gem and tradition.
Huge auditorium and comfortable place to watch performances
Fantastic! What stadium luxurious seating should resemble.
The Wizard of Oz was wonderful! Our original seats were in a vary bad section being on the side but they worked to move us to a better viewing area.
Not a bad seat in the venue. I would for sure come to another show here.
Very nice and neat. Staff is very helpful. Diverse entertainment.
Wonderful venue but seating a bit too cozy
6.10.2018If I could leave no stars I would. Beautiful venue, totally ruined by rude and incompetent staff. Parents of graduates, police escorted off the property and unable to watch their student(s) graduate, due to lack of seating. A problem caused due to staff not checking tickets at the door! Ergo a totally avoidable situation had the staff done their jobs! Outside there was little to no parking. A problem, only exasturbated due to a poorly timed event at the Art Center. After the ceremony(and ticket fiasco), the staff was extremely pushy and rude. Rushing us out of the building(even came in to clear the restrooms). Our school system and community trusted them with one of the most important mile stones a child can face, and they let us down horribly. What kind of restitution could possibly be offered to these understandably heartbroken students and parents? Will it make up for this once in lifetime event they missed? No, it wont. I am thoroughly disgusted!
I am a graduating senior of the 2018 class and I just want to say that this place was very unresponsible for our commencement ceremony. Each student in my grade was given 5 tickets to give to their family to watch them graduate (known as the white tickets). And if you wanted extra tickets they could go to the Sloan museum to watch it live on a big screen (known as the red tickets). I’m dumbfounded that we were given tickets to pass out and the whiting employees didn’t even bother to check them. It would be easy to check because it’s two different colors!!! Since they didn’t check the tickets, some parents weren’t able to see their kids graduate today. And some parents even had the cops called on them for refusing to leave because they have the right to see their kids graduate but it was taken from them. They could have easily taken care of this mistake by announcing it and asking everybody to raise their tickets in the air and leave if they have a red ticket. I’m lucky and had all of my family members able to see me but I’m disappointed other parents weren’t but able to do the same. I DO NOT recommend this place.
Good entertainment thru out the years!
Beautiful Theatre and great place to just visit and admire its architecture.
We see the nutcracker here every year. It is always a wonderful show.
We saw the Wizard of Oz here and absolutely loved it. What a gem to the community The Whiting is. Aloha!
The Whiting is beautiful, immaculate, and the staff is great. Valet parking was $7. I went to see Jenifer Lewis and the she was awesome! She talked, she sang, danced, story-told, rapped, and played the piano. She told stories of her life and acted out excerpts from her book The Mother of Black Hollywood, she did comedy, came into the audience and interacted with us throughout the show. Ms. Lewis addressed the Flint Water Crisis. Im sorry for you who missed the show! To top it off the show was free provided by the Ballenger Eminent Persons Lecture Series of Mott College in Flint, MIchigan.
A little outdated. Seats are too close to the seat in front and elevation of seats poor. Hard to enjoy stage.
Very beautiful place.. The staff is wonderful.
Great Place To Take The Family For Fun Indoors Activities.
