Had an excellent experience here! Despite the rental car shortage this summer, Avis was able to get me the exact car I requested. I called a couple of times before my trip and it was easy to get a hold of someone to see what the situation was like. They were more confident about having a vehicle ready and it all worked out in the end. Very polite customer service over the phone and in person.

If there was a way to give this rental agency ZERO STARS, I would! They gave us a vehicle with NO SPARE TIRE and we got a flat on the side of the road, about 50 miles from the nearest town. So I was stranded on the side of the road with my family in the car.Then later when we tried returning out vehicle, they charged us a full EXTRA DAY for going over by two hours. Even after I tried explaining what had happened, the agent at the counter- Sam- was incredibly and basically just told me to go screw myself. There are several other car rental agencies here with Full car lots.AVOID THIS PLACE!!!!

We rented a vehicle from this Avis branch at the Fairbanks Airport in February 2021. My wife and I booked a Ford Explorer or similar SUV. We wanted a large vehicle and one with potentially all or 4 wheel drive due to our inexperience in driving in snow and ice. However, upon arriving at the Avis counter in the airport, we were informed that they didnt have a Ford Explorer or any SUV and we were told our only option was a Toyota Corolla. I asked for at least an all wheel drive vehicle and was told that none were available. At this point at night, it was too late to attempt to get a rental from another rental company. We were told that as a courtesy we would receive a lower rate than the SUV cost. This is hardly a courtesy as a Toyota Corolla would naturally be a lower cost than a Ford Explorer or similar SUV. Needless to say, we didnt have a choice but to accept the Toyota Corolla. We got in the car and drove to our first stop carefully and without the confidence of two additional driven wheels. This also caused us distress as we had to adjust our plans during our trip due to a vehicle that could not provide us with the security to get us where we had hoped to go. Also, the entire first night of driving, I heard a rattling sound but didnt want to check into it while driving and certainly didnt want to pull over on the side of the highway. The following morning when I heard the noise again, I checked in the door pocket and noticed a glass smoking paraphernalia. I promptly disposed of it in the closest public trash receptacle. I was made aware while signing the contract that the rental vehicle was fully cleaned and sanitized to protect my family from pathogens and also that smoking was punishable by a large cleaning fee. Upon finding the paraphernalia, it was abundantly clear that neither was the vehicle properly sanitized for health reasons, but it also wasnt even throughly cleaned out. My wife and I then had to use our travel pack of disinfectant wipes to wipe down the entire interior of the vehicle out of caution for our own wellbeing. I’ve provided all this info to Avis and their response was to offer me a measly credit towards a future rental from Budget. I don’t plan on using Avis or it’s subsidiaries in the future. On a positive note, Fairbanks and interior Alaska was magical in February and our absolute favorite trip thus far!

DONT RESERVE PLEASE CHECK EVERYTHING FIRST !!!Ill give 0 if possible. They have a horribly customer service thats one the other and most badly situation; they cancel my reservation once I was about to pay, they couldnt take the payment agggg I end up paying triple of the initial quote :(

We were given a vehicle with a defective, front right tire that could have exploded and harmed or killed myself or the driver. They replaced the car, but given their poor maintenance of the vehicles and their threats of charges for damage that was of their doing, I would not recommend them. Will update when the charges come through and whether or not they deemed us at fault.

Considered an offline site, short staffed and very hectic. Car we had was great, but the mileage was way off on pickup which made it look as though we drove 4k miles in 6 days (we didnt).

When Fairbanks had a record snowfall over Easter weekend, the Avis Fairbanks team stayed at their posts to help customers out. Roads around town were full of snow, cars were stuck everywhere, it was a mess. I had rented a Chevy Malibu with Hertz, but it was basically unusable with the snowfall. I tried to exchange the vehicle at Hertz, but they had completely abandoned their posts. I went from counter to counter to see if I could get a 4 wheel-drive vehicle and fortunately, Avis said that they had a pick-up truck. They fetched it out of their lot and drove it to the airport for me. I really appreciate the dedication of the Avis staff and working to solve problems. Great Job!

Absolutely abysmal service. I have never seen a group of people so lazy, so bad, and so unwilling to help as at this place. I am in the process of contacting corporate avis as my experience was that bad. They were not interested in helping me make sure the car was not damaged before or after my rental, and constantly tried to dodge any sort of responsibility, frequently stating not my job as they would go back to sitting down and checking their phones. Never renting from avis again if at all possible.

Double charged me and my sister. $126 for 28hrs is ridiculous!!!! Never received email with receipt or anything. Costumer service was good, agent at desk was nice. Only thing positive about it. I will not rent a car Avis again.

When we picked up the vehicle the inside light would not turn off and the tank was not full. We then returned the vehicle for a replacement vehicle and then pick up time was not adjusted. They were not at all flexible in changing the time even though it was not our fault for the malfunction of the vehicle. We will not be renting from them again.

It’s my fault not filling up the gas upon return. But $10 PER Gallon if you didn’t choose prepay, really? Last but not least, these ppl are RACIST, I travel and rent cars all over the country but this sign particularly is what I have never seen. AVOID this spam!

Had really great customer experience. I didn’t rent the car my coworker did. We got in and out really quick. Agent didn’t have a name tag on but I could tell she was new and knew what she was doing. She explained the contract very clearly. The lady was working with Yvonne. She did ask Yvonne a question and she was able to assist her very quickly. Thank you for providing excellent customer service. We rented our car 12-18.

I placed a reservation for a full-sized pick up for my move. When I arrived they said there were none available and handed me the keys to a Tacoma, AFTER I had paid for my reservation. When I received the vehicle it was very dirty. Smudges all over the windshield so bad it obstructed my view, crumbs all over the center console and so much armor all on the dash and doors my hands belt slimy after driving the vehicle. Would never recommend this company or return for business.

Worst customer service Ive ever experienced. We had booked an intermediate SUV and upon arriving they had run out. So we got downgraded to a full size car with BARELY any discount than what we had paid for the SUV. They promised us an intermediate SUV the following day when some were due back, but of course when we called they said they didnt have any. This was a lie because later that day we drove by and saw several in the lot. At that point we didnt have time to argue and our trip was halfway over. But the manager lied to our faces and was rude and unhelpful, and refused to give us any kind of compensation for forcibly downgrading us. Cannot even put into words how horrible the service was. I will be filing a complaint with the better business bureau. I dont understand how this place has so many negative reviews but Avis hasnt stepped in to remove this manager from her position and make positive changes. ALSO, FYI this place does not accept any discount codes, unlike ANY OTHER avis location.

Very bad quality of service. The car we rented at Anchorage didnt have a plug and had some minor bumper damage so we decided to exchange the vehicle. Got charged a drop-off fee twice. Fine, its partly my fault. But the staff actively tried to not give me a replacement vehicle. She kept saying I didnt want a replacement but thats clearly not the case. I mean, whats the point of trying to win an argument and lose a business?When we got the key to the new vehicle (a minivan), its the incorrect one. The license plate number on the key didnt match the van parking in the designated spot. They tried to convince me its the right van and that the door was frozen and wanted me to try harder. Im obviously not falling for it because I dont want to report a damage before my rental even starts! Finally their manager (who instructed her employee how to charge more money from another customer right in front of me, by the way) came along and discovered its the wrong key and after a while they finally found the right one.And guess what? Of course this van didnt work properly (and I suspect the reason they didnt want to give me this van is that they knew it has problems). Its vibrating violently above 50 mph and the plug doesnt work. I dont know whats wrong with Avis but they try to convince every customer that they dont need a plug in Alaskan winter. Sure the car may start after a few attempts but its still a pain to warm it up (not to mention you are inhaling a lot of toxic emissions when the catalytic converter is cold).These large rental companies are a waste of your money and time. Go to a local rental company and support local business instead! They know the conditions better, have vehicles more suited to winter driving, and allow you on roads where you can actually see something interesting.

The first vehicle we had to take back the next day a over heat sensor light came on. The second vehicle leaving the parking lot it was cold out when heater air hit the windshield it crack. When investigating there was a bullseye under the wiper. Check them out well. Needless to say avis stated the vehicle was inspected before it was taken. They blamed the damage on us. . Tried appealing stating the 1st vehicle had a problem also well as second vehicle. Didnt matter we bought a windshield. I wont rent from them again.

Really disappointing experience. I was half an hour late getting back and was charged a full day extra rental. I fully recognize that being late was my fault, but good customer service would have found a way pro-rate this or something. They had plenty of cars in the lot. Avis is all about the short-term gain, and theyve lost a customer as a result of that.

I rented a car from Avis in Fairbanks at about 2 AM (red eye flight). There was no visible damage on the body, but there was a noise when making a corner. I went to my hotel. Arose at 8 AM, saw a loose piece of plastic UNDER the car in front of the wheel. I went to the airport to exchange the car and they told me that I caused the damage and submitted it to their claims dept. One of their employees stated to me that we missed it ( the damage), too. I offered to take a polygraph test but they chose to proceed. Nine days later Mauricio Valencia in their claims dept. took it upon himself to double check the information submitted to him from theFairbanks agency and, lo and behold, they made a mistake and Mauricio dropped the case. My thanks go to him for ending this baseless, false - but very stressful experience. However, I will never rent from Avis again. You can make your own decision!

I rented a car on 3/14/2018 at this place, the renting agent number is AAH2.My pick-up time is 6am as it opens at 6am. I arrived at Fairbanks Airport at 2am and waited in the airport for 4hrs to pick up the car. However the renting agent was not in a good mood, when I went to the counter at 6am, she showed me a colder-than-the-snowy-Fairbanks weather face saying that she was not ready yet. Then I walked away and came back at 6:05am, she said shes still not ready with the same look. I knew it was really early in the morning and I know her computer may need time to start up. But I dont feel I deserve that kind of cold face. Thats 1 point.Second, I rented a mid-size SUV, and at the pick up, she told me theres none available. The only cars I can choose is either a minivan or a pick-up truck.I also added a driver, she said thats ok but she didnt mention that there was an extra charge of $14/day, I rented a car for a week and paid $100 more.

They are supposed to open at 6Am according to Avis website. It’s 6:20 and no one is here. Their tech support said Budget counter can help, but they only open at 6:30 and while the are employees at Budget they don’t want/can help until 6:30

THESE AVIS UNIT HAS VERY LOW MORALE PRINCIPLE AND WILL TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOU AS A CUSTOMER AT ANY TIME POSSIBLE. STAY AWAY! Here is my story dealing with Avis Fairbanks. For my 18 years in remote site business this is the worst rental company I was dealing with. They gave me a prescreened car saying there is no damages. In hurry, I took off finding large crack on the windshield bottom and calling an agent back 1 hour after outlining a problem. Agent promised to make a note on the car inspection form advising me to continue my ride. Two month down the road they send me a bill for around $ 500 with request to pay. I politely asked them to check previous to my rental car inspection form to confirm it was a prior damage. They refused to do anything claiming it is still my fault.

Had a government contract with these guys for multiple vehicles being picked up at different times. Naturally there was a lot of unplanned issues that came up, these guys were very flexible to make it happen for us and practically bent over backwards. Not sure about all of the bad reviews on here.

Experienced very unpleasant service during both renting the car and returning it. The lady at the front desk acted like we owe her a lot of money or sth that she was pissed at everything and couldn’t care less about the costumers. And of course because of her very negative attitude, it took her forever to get one customer done.If you wanna keep your good mood for the trip, just choose another rental company.

Thanks Avis Fairbanks for giving us a spectacularly pathetic end to our wonderful Alaska trip. The lady at the counter was just plain racist. Our conversation started with her saying Hi, Im not even going to try pronouncing your name. I laughed it off hesitantly. When we went to return the car, she had added an $84 charge without explanation to our bill. Upon asking her for details, she raised her voice and went on to accuse my friend of being drunk. She then went on and called the cops saying that we were unruly. Im amazed at how many poor reviews it is going to take for Avis to fix this and teach their employees some basic courtesy.

I made a reservation one month beforehand on Expedia and did all my homework since its a costly trip and I dont want anything to happen, especially for transportation. Arrived this morning at 8:00am after a rough 17 hour flight and only to learn that they cant release the car to me. Why? According to a new policy this year, they cant release a standard size suv to anyone under 25. I asked when the policy went into effect and can I get a copy of their policy, and was refused saying they cant provide it? So pretty much I have to take w.e they say for granted. Seriously Avis ? Are you serious? I checked your dam website, and it never mentioned this so called new policy. According to your own dam website, it only says 21-24 years old are prohibited from renting a full size suv, a 7seater. if you want include standard size in it, make it f-King clear on your website! Btw, since cars are in high demand, I couldnt rent a suv from anywhere at the last minute . So thanks a lot Avis, I m impressed by your shady business practice, keep it up! Just want to politely hand you the international peace sign and greeting to your mother.
