I rented a 2021 Ford Bronco. The checkin process was quick and seamless, the staff are ALL amazing, upbeat and willing to make your rental experience a positive one. The vehicles are clean, well maintained and a pleasure to drive. I highly recommend Alaska 4x4 for any rental needs off-road, in town or anywhere in Alaska.

Rented from them to go up the Dalton to the Arctic Circle from Fairbanks. They had the best rates of all the places I could find that would allow driving on the Dalton. The Good:Great customer service people, patient, and kind. They can be hard to get a hold of at times and other times easy. They were able to change my reservation to another day very close to the rental date which was greatly appreciated. The vehicle was at the place they said by the time they said. They offer damage waiver and windshield waiver among a couple of others. The actual vehicle was ok. It had some existing chips, scuffs, and dings but as I was driving up the Dalton I didnt care. The Bad (IMHO):Tire damage is not covered under damage waiver and they did not offer any paid waiver for tires. I did have a tire go out at Finger mountain and while they did not charge me for patching if it could not be patched I would have had to pay for a new tire. It would be nice to have a tire waiver.Excessively Dirty Vehicle fee. The agreement states the vehicle should be returned in the same condition but its not clear this also means as clean as it left. I was assessed a 75 dollar fee because it was Excessively Dirty. The agreement does not specify what constitutes Excessively Dirty. I didnt return it spotless and it was dirty but I didnt think it was excessive and certainly not 75 dollars excessive. I imagine that all vehicles go through a car wash and vacuum before being rented again and I did not return it in a condition a car wash wouldnt fix. I returned it with the interior pretty good nothing a light vacuuming and a wet towel wouldnt make clean. Conclusion:I am certainly not saying avoid renting from them. But if you do I HIGHLY recommend getting the damage waiver and the windshield waiver especially if you plan to go up the Dalton as a passing semi chipped the windshield on the Dalton and the waiver saved me some money. Also I HIGHLY recommend taking it to the car wash and vacuum it out before returning. Had I known it was going to cost me 75 bucks I certainly would have washed it before returning.

Took me a while to write this but I really need to put this out there for people:Rented a large dodge 2500 after the office told me it would have no problem fitting a snowmachine in the bed. There were concerns raised about the plastic fender, but was told it was fine. Found it also odd that I wasn’t allowed to come inside, but the person in the office was able to come out to my vehicle without a mask?Upon returning, and having loaded and unloaded a snowmobile from a ramp twice, there were two dimples. < Dime sized DIMPLES! where the front skies made contact with the front of the bed. The plastic cover on the back was immediately broken when unloading the snowmachine. Okay, I guess that’s on me, thought the metal could handle it, but...The 4K video I took showed only this, with no other damages to the front of the bed. The quote I was given from the shop showed a picture of a large 3”+ dent on the front end of the bed that was clearly NOT there in the video, not sure how two skiis could make a huge dent in the center of the front of the bed. Instead of unscrewing and replacing the plastic and pulling out some dimples, I was charged over $1500 for the “repairs.” Oddly enough I was fortunate to not have bought the insurance coverage which ironically gives you only a $1000 or $1500 deductible. Haha. So I fought the charges placed on my credit card, was threatened with more “fees” after I contacted them, but ended up giving up because these people aren’t worth $1500. Something fishy here. Really wish I had a better experience, they were conveniently right by the airport. I posted a frame from the video so it might be a BIT blurry.

Made a trip to the Arctic in Deadhorse, Alaska. This rental company exceeded my expectations. The car was a trail rated Jeep Cherokee, very comfortable, clean, and most importantly a capable 4x4 that got me through rough muddy, rocky and super steep road conditions. Gave me piece of mind and brought me home safe. They also rent CB radio’s and satélite phone for extra piece of mind.

AK 4x4 Rentals was able to provide me with a great Jeep Grand Cherokee for a week of sight seeing. We went from Fairbanks to Whittier and back again with stops all over. The Alaska 4x4 team was great to work with and lived up to evey detail promised. I turned to them because the main stream car rental outlets have depleted their rental stock. I will use AK 4x4 Rental again even when the big name rental agencies get their supply problems fixed.

Helped out in a pinch but the WORST customer service I’ve ever experienced. There were 3 women there and the youngest (newest) and oldest (manager?) made it seem like such a huge deal to rent me a suv “last minute” even though I reserved one the night before and received a confirmation code. I don’t know why they made such a Huge deal about this? That’s what you are there for to rent a car…

I seldomly write reviews but this time I am more than happy to do it. I rent an SUV during Christmas trip to Alaska, the staff were all friendly and the car was pretty new and in good condition, they even had the engine on for us for a while when arrival to keep us warm which was so kind. After return I found I left a cooking pot and they kindly shipped that back to me, and they wrapped it up really carefully. I do appreciate it that they even take much care of this which I think is out of their responsibility. It is never hard to rent a car we need, but it is their warm heart that really impressed me and pleased my trip. I will definitely rent from here if visiting Alaska again in the future. Thank you!

Hands down best car rental I’ve ever worked with. The staff was extremely helpful each time I contacted them and the wrangler I rented was exactly what I needed to conquer the icy Alaska roads! Pickup and drop off process was the smoothest I’ve ever experienced. My flight got in at midnight in Fairbanks and Alaska 4x4 had my Jeep waiting for me right down the road and shuttle service to get there! Also the pricing blew my mind at how affordable they were. I highly recommend Alaska 4x4 to everyone!!

Great communication and helpful staff. I will definitely be using them again when I return to Alaska. The Jeep we rented had winter tires, extension cord and window ice scraper.

I contacted Alaska 4x4 - while was planning to travel to Alaska in April 2021 for a trip to Coldfoot and beyond. Holly was wonderful as she clarified all my question as I was not knowing what to expect in Dalton Highway. After I booked the car online with Alaska 4x4 through their website. Later I contacted Alaska 4x4 again, and Ingrid responded and fulfilled all my request.- Alaska 4x4 provided me with a very good car - Jeep latitude, No issues.- Pickup at Pikes Landing hotel - worked out nicely.- Return to same place (after washing the muds from Coldfoot trip).Customer service had been great. They closed the rental agreement and got confirmation by e-mail.Suggestion to anyone planning to drive on Dalton Highway better pick windshield insurance - the way trucks move on those gravel road - it is more likely that smaller car to get hit by flying rocks.

Would give no stars if I could. I placed a reservation the night before for 9am because I have work at 10. Got to the rental company only to be told it wouldn’t be ready until 11am. Then was told they sent an email, which was sent at 9:06, after i was already on my way. I’m an essential worker and now I’m stranded here without a way to work because of their negligence. Non existent customer service and basically a non existent business. I would recommend renting from literally anywhere in fairbanks other than this place.
