I went to the salon over the summer, and I saw Frankie. She was super lovely, and I think she did an OK job. I made a follow-up visit for September 7, 2021. On September 6, I called numerous times to cancel the appointment as I did on September 7, 2021. Both days (nine calls total), I was unable to reach anyone or leave a voice message. Then I went to their website and sent them a message asking for the appointment to be canceled or if someone could give me a call back to have it rescheduled.On September 7, 2021, I received a call from Cris (front desk manager) in the early evening to inform me that I would be charged no-show fees.I explained to him that I was under the impression that he was calling me because of the message I sent to the salon, but he refused to listen. I felt as if I was calling Unemployment Office and finally got to someone who had no customer service skills and wasnt sure what to do. He was focused on charging me no-show fees. He stated he had not received anything from me. I asked him would it help if I sent him a screenshot from the online communication and calls, but he refused. When I asked to speak with someone in charge, he stated that he was in charge, sigh. I asked him to have his manager call him. That is yet to happen. As of this morning, there is a pending charge on my credit card for $38.50. So he went ahead and charged my card without first having his manager review the situation.I tried to reason with him, but he would not listen, and most of the phone conversation, he was talking over me. I told him that I would leave this review for the salon, dispute charges, and never set my foot to the salon that was otherwise gaining me as a regular customer because of him. Im sorry, Frankie.

Ariel is amazing! Most important - shes great at a pixie cut!! She was incredibly accommodating that I had to be on my computer doing work during the entire cut (she made me feel entirely at ease). I literally was only able to talk about our plan for a minute and we hit upon somewhere in between this inspiration picture and that inspiration picture as her guide....and I love the cut! Highly recommend - for her personality and skills!!

Update:They reached out to me to apologize about the lack of notification and offered me a discount once they resume beard trims. Ill update again if and when Im able to use the service.Original Review:Booked a beard trim with Anthony. Had to wait about a month to get in, which is normal/fine. Sent me an email the day of my appointment to let me know they can’t do a beard trim due to new Covid policy which they set 2 weeks earlier.I’m not upset about the policy, but waiting 2 weeks to let me know — and on the day of no less — is extremely unprofessional. I could have booked somewhere else instead of waiting around for this appointment. Told me they could still cut my hair, as if that fixes anything — even if I had hair and didn’t shave my head, that’s not what I booked.Extremely discourteous and disrespectful not to notify booked clients as soon as your policy changed.

I love A+S. I have been cutting and dyeing my own hair for years, so was scared I would be shamed for cutting my own hair/box dye. Not here. Literally only positivity and kindness from the staff.Amalia is an incredible colorist and really easy to spend time with. It took multiple toners to get my hair lighter after making the mistake of using a too-dark-for-my-hair Overtone. She fixed all of of it and did so with such grace and kindness.Margaux is amazing with curls and texture. I felt pounds lighter after my cut. She just “gets” waves and curls. I still have the length I want and as my hair grows out I know it will look good into the summer.This salon has restored my faith. I like the A+S model of separating stylists from colorists (though they work together amazingly).TL;DR: Curly girls and balayage: find Margaux for cut and Amalia for color.

I went in to get my hair dyed a nice lavender, but instead left with dark purple hair which I was told would lighten over time. After washing my hair one time already so much of the purple has disappeared and my blonde hair is fully visible. It literally looks awful and it was so expensive for no reason. I absolutely hate it. If I could get my money back I literally would I am actually embarrassed to be seen.

Kim and Frankie gave me one of the best brow waxes + cuts Ive ever had! So disappointed Im moving and wont be back to see them :(

Agnes is amazing and a genius when it comes to cutting my hair. She’s super friendly and makes a point to remember details about me as a client. The salon is also super clean and they do a good job of catering to their clients.

The best place ive been since Vidal Sassoon! I get my hair dyed for the first time, bright red, the most beautiful color ive had. Couldnt be happier.

My stylist, Agnes, was amazing! The staff are very organized and welcoming. I appreciate that they offer you a drink for the wait and have suckers for kids. They use great products and my hair looked and felt amazing after the cut.

I see Anthony regularly here at their barbershop and I tell you these barbers will leave you feeling like every individual hair has been accounted for before they let you leave their chair. I know I will leave here looking here fabulous and refreshed every time.

Jessie is such a wonderful hairstylist, you can ask her anything about hair. She gives helpful opinions and advice, but definitely listens to what the customer wants. Its pricier than Im used to, but I finally got the haircut I really wanted after trying several places.

TLDR; I paid a lot for a bad haircut. I would not recommend coming here for a drastic haircut.I made an appointment here to get my hair cut short 3 weeks ago. The stylist, Cali, and I settled on collarbone length with slight layers, however, after the haircut was done, a section of hair towards the back-right side of my head was noticeably 2 different lengths. This created a two-tier effect on only one side of my head, where you could see a shorter chunk of hair sitting on top of the rest. I didnt notice it at first because she curled my hair after the cut. The next day the section was very noticeable.I went in to get it fixed last week, and when I told her of the problem she noticed it right away and literally said why did we do that. She blended it out a bit so it was less noticeable, however, now half of my head has a sort of 90s mom cut while the other is fine. Its less apparent when I straighten it, but on the messed-up side you can still tell that my hair is more voluminous at the top and noticeably thins at the bottom because of the intense layering.I chose Art + Science because I wanted to get a drastic cut and felt a more reputable salon would be a safe bet. However, I ended up with a bad haircut that has made me feel very insecure about my hair. I always have it tied up. The overall length is fine, but the intense 90s mom layering on one side is not what I asked for.I tried to picture of what my hair looks like now, after it naturally dries after a shower, but they arent sticking. I have posted them on Yelp. I always part my hair to my left side (and I told my stylist this). Now I usually have to straighten it, but you can still see a sort of waterfall effect with all the layers on the right side of my head.

A pretty solid place with some talented people that are consistent enough that Ive come back, even after trying other places near by. Emma is a good Barber. Definitely recommend her.

Ive been going to Art and Science for almost two years now. Elvis is a master at color! Hes creative and thorough. I ALWAYS love his choices and work. Its not easy to keep my rapidly graying hair looking good and healthy, but he sure does the job! Love that! Amy has been fantastically cutting my hair and my daughters, as well. Shes a great listener, will do exactly as you ask, and do it with great care and precision. Shes so good at what she does! Art and Science has been an excellent salon for me and my daughter. It has a great vibe and staff.

I just had an especially great haircut at Art and Science in Evanston. My stylist is Margaux and Ive been going to her for a couple of years now and shes always been excellent. Lately, Ive been interested in the possibility of a new style. She is a good listener and helped guide me into a fantastic new style. Im thrilled with it and shes wonderful!

I had Frankie cut my hair and Fergie do my color. The cut turned out great, Frankie was very thorough and the cut was just right. The color, however, was not. I showed a reference picture and had a long conversation about exactly what I wanted , but it didn’t come out right at all. For the price, I expected at least close to what I asked for. Honestly disappointed.

10/10 recommend Jamie for your color needs and dreams

I had been going there for years, seeing another artist, but when she moved salons I had to switch stylists. I got a haircut with one of the senior stylists. It came out uneven, and when I went in to get it fixed they seemed unapologetic. The store itself is nice, but honestly not worth the price for a bad haircut...

I am giving a big thank you to Candace for taking her time with me today for a bleach and tone. I normally go to the Wicker Park location but today it was more convenient for me to head to Evanston. I told her I love pure ice white platinum hair and she took her time making sure each step was successful. For some strange reason my hair was still a bit yellowish after the bleaching process so she shampooed me and hit the roots back up with a blue tinted bleach like a soap cap to make sure there would be no rings or yellow bands when I left today. She used a very strong toner at the very end that tingled but this toner is designed to last much longer than a demi permanent toner so I did not mind a few moments of discomfort for the desired results. When I arrived at 2pm I did not realize Id be leaving the salon at about a quarter of 5 but Candace is a perfectionist and she really wanted the end result to be as perfect as possible. I left with a bright, white, silver, electrifying shade that glows in the dark and I am loving it!!!! The price for the service was incredibly reasonable considering how many steps she took to help me achieve the results I wanted. I am terribly happy and I love the softness and texture of my hair too because she used some wonderful products to condition my hair afterwards so it would not feel so dried out. I have a head full of full, thick curls and I am going to baby it this month. I cant say thank you enough!!!
