Last summer, I brought my power washer in for repair. After receiving A-1s estimate, Rick offered me a better, rebuilt washer for about the same cost as the repair. I bought the refurbished model and have been quite pleased with its performance.Today, I brought in a 36 year old snow thrower with a non-functioning,electric starter motor. The machine was so old, the part was no longer available. Although A-1 had several, similarly-sized, refurbished snow throwers for $200 that they could have pushed, instead Rick and Jim worked to sell me a refurbished starter motor (that Gary quickly repaired) which could work and even showed me how I could install it myself. Total cost? 70 bucks! I couldnt be happier.I love, family-owner, customer service-minded local stores. You cant get THAT from a big box store!PS I also love the friendly, black lab that greets customers. :-)

Picked up an item I wanted serviced since 2017. Parts hard to find, limited, or backordered. Store is closed, closing,or not opened due to reasons I cant disclose. Its a shame Lisa ran great business. I will miss Her at and A-1 repair.

I would give them a ZERO if I could. I brought in my snow blower for and oil change and a minor repair and the broke it and charged me to repair it. Kept it there for over two weeks and I had to pay for snow removal 2x. The manager was unapologetic when it was brought to his attention. THE ABSOLUTE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I’VE EVER EXPERIENCED. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!

Will never deal with these people again! Bought a new snow blower 2 years ago and everything was fine so I went back and bought a new lawn mower from them. Having it less than one week I took it back because it backfired every time I turned it off. They now have had it longer than I have and I dont really know when I will get it back. Not once have they called me to let me know whats going on, I have had to call them or stop in. Having had the mower less than 1 week shouldnt the first thing to do be to offer a new mower? Instead, Im told that the manufacturer wont return their calls or their too busy and well call you if we hear from them. A week later they finally delivered a loaner mower to my home ( I had to ask for this) Again, shouldnt this been offered the day I brought mine back? At this point in time I would have liked to have gotten my money back but, was told that was not an option. I dont want to deal with these people any longer and I really dont even want this mower because I believe this mower may be a continuing problem. I hope to get this problem resolved.I think they have a lot to learn about customer service!!!

Had a pesky lawn edger that I could not get the blade off of. They were very helpful. Removed old blade no charge. Ordered me a new blade cheaper than amazon. Not surprised. They did an excellent job of servicing a 1 stage snowblower several years ago that still works great. Thank you.

HORRIBLE service! I brought my 5 month old lawn mower to be repaired per the manufacturers warranty. I was given A-1 info as a repair shop directly from the manufacturer. It has taken over 2 weeks for them to even look at my mower to tell me what could be wrong with it! I was originally told it would be a week. To date, it still hasnt been looked at. This is unacceptable and a complaint has been made to the manufacturer who recommends this business as a repair shop.

Fixed my Ryobi electric snow blower replacing the bad circuit board. Also help me start it later when I thought it was not working -- It was. I did not hold the starter button 3 seconds before pulling the agar lever. Now I know and am more patient.

This is by far the worst experience Ive ever had with a company. I have never written a bad review in my life so trust me when I say A1 deserves 0 stars if that were an option. Drop off my pressure washer over a week ago on a Tuesday and was informed that it will get looked at the latest Saturday, here we are a full 9 days later and no call so I call myself and explain that my pressure washer is an essential tool for my business and I need to have an idea on when it will be ready. The gentleman who answered the phone first tells me that it hasnt even been looked at and that once it does get looked at to expect 2+ weeks or possibly more. Im not writing this review because of the time frame Im actually writing it because of the lack of communication or care to myself as a client. If they said from day 1 that it might take a month or more to get it fixed then I wouldve simply gone elsewhere. I personally will never be visiting this location nor recommend it to anyone I come across. Thank you

As a customer who has had items serviced there in the past with stellar service, I had a horrible experience the last time and wont return. Not sure if its a changing of hands but Ive always dealt with an older gentleman in the past.In addition to the slow repair, returning the mower within an hour of picking up, waiting an additional 2 weeks for correcting the repair - I experienced immense lack of concern, appreciation and empathy. The repair: replace the carburetor. A month after drop off, they called that it was ready. I was there nearly 45 minutes while they struggled to get it started. We were shown the filter, told it mustve flooded. Noticed when putting it in the truck, my mulched (which wont start without it) is missing. I havent bagged my grass in 5 yrs. Had NO reason to remove it. I checked when I got home, giving them the benefit of the doubt. Not there. We were just trying to start it before I brought it in. Where did it go?We take the mower home, put the bag on, struggle getting it started. Run it 2 strips, stop to put gas in and cant get it started again. GAS IS POURING OUT OF THE CARBURETOR.Back to shop immediately. Things happen. I get it. Try again and please try to find the mulching piece. Was told theyd be in touch and get on it right away.2 weeks later, its ready. When Im talking to the man, I ask again about the mulching piece. Not found. I ask if theres anything (ok, maybe Im emotional and begging - the mower is sentimental; its my fathers who has passed) they can do to replace the piece (I KNOW IT WAS ON IT!).His typical careless, lack of compassion, millenial response: I dunno what ta tell ya.I will add, he was willing to reimburse me for a rental to come back and pick up the mower. Id much rather have what was lost. Seems like a nobrainer to me and even said so. Didnt budge.Well, Ill be sure to share my experience in my community FB places, tell all of the people Ive raved about you to and anyone else who asks where they should go.I have a small business myself AND work retail that requires good customer service. Saying THAT to a customer is never gonna go well.

Took my Generac power washer in to resolve a no start situation after being winterized and sitting all summer. I was given two different time frames for repair. First it was 3-5 days. Then another person said 2-3 WEEKS! As it turned out, it was closer to the 3-5 day estimate. That was good. When I picked it up, we did a trial start. VERY hard starting, but it did start. The unit was always somewhat hard to start. A-1 said they boiled, cleaned, adjusted, and rebuilt carb. Pressure and vac tested carb - passed. Got the unit up and running and adjusted carb and engine RPM.... Regulated the unloader and water flow. Unit ran and tested OK. Ran unit on SeaFoam treated and stabilized fuel. Quote from invoice. When I put it to work, it gave pressure for about 30 seconds and then the engine stalled. Owners manual troubleshooting said mixture too rich and/or engine speed too low. When I took it back, they duplicated the problem under load, but were unable to fix it after clearing carb bowl and replacing spark plug. They werent sure what to do. When I asked for a refund because they had not fixed what I brought it in for, they refused. Showed me cloudy fuel they said came from my carb bowl and claimed it was water in the fuel and was my fault. I strongly disagreed as I used brand new fuel when I filled it for work. I offered for them to keep the $45 initial charge, but refund the additional $51 I paid, but they refused again. A total of $96 wasted!I immediately found another Generac authorized repair service nearby - AAMs Small Engine Repair in Elgin, IL. I explained the situation, what A-1 had failed to do, and left the unit. They called 2 days later to say it was ready. When I picked up the unit, we did a trial start up. Engine started in ONE PULL! Never better! AAMs changed the oil, replaced the spark plug, and cleaned the carburetor (again), but apparently doing a much better job than A-1. Total charge was $70. So... if I had taken the unit to AAMs in the first place, I would have gotten a quality job, performed by knowledgeable technicians, in less time and for less cost! Thats a winner in my book! AAMs has won all my future small engine business. FORGET A-1 and go to AAMs!!

A-1 Repair in Elgin,IL is a total rip off, first of all they charged me fifty dollars to come pick up my riding mower, i than asked them to call me if the work would be over two hundred dollars, their excuse for not contacting me before charging me four hundred and eighty dollars on repairs and replacements i did not need was my phone is disconnected, the very same phone i was talking to them on! i asked them to change the oil and put inner tubes in the two front tires because they was leaking air slowly, they decided to replace two supposedly broken motor mounts, replaced a perfectly good cutting blade, change two oil air filters a gas filter the spark plug, all of which they returned to me in a plastic bag, and all of these things i changed before i put it away for the winter. and for all this they over charged me, i would not take my childs toy plastic lawn mower to them for repair. they have changed owners several times over the years but these recent owners are the most devious of them all!!!

On my 62nd bday, I was obsessed with getting the yard in order (plus it was a nice day finally!). So I got out the electrical cord, and plugged in the weed whacker. It ran, but didnt cut. No plastic cord on the spool! I threw it in my car and went to A-1, where we have purchased items, and have been so happy with them. I realized it wasnt one of the things we bought there when I arrived. But still, they took the time to unscrew the cap, which I couldnt do myself, without charge!!! Once again, they saved the day for me, and are my heros!! I got the deed done at home, and 2 days later, my arms are still sore!

I really would advise against using A-1.The reasons are as follows:The company seems to have adequate knowledge, but is understaffed of technicians.I gave them my snow blower for minor repairs,(as theysuggested )a couple days after Thanksgiving.I did not suggest a time frame, but they told me that the snowblower problem was a minor one, and the repairs would be completed in one week to ten days. When they didnt call after 2 weeks had passed, I called to inquire about when the service might be completed. They returned my call and told me the snowblower would be completed on Monday 12/12.They added that they would let me know, they had about six snow blowers to fix ahead of mine.By Friday 12/16, I still had not received a call, so I called A-1 again to inquire. The woman told me they had a ticket written for it but had not gotten to it yet.I told her that the other person said it would be done by Monday 12/12, but she added something to the effect that everybody wanted their snowblower fixed now. I told them that I was told the work would be done by Mon 12/12.She than offered to talk to the manager about it, and that he would call me back, which as of this writing has not occurred.I feel if they had to much business to handle at once they should have given me fair warning.I certainly understand how a business can have their peaks during certain seasons,Indeed, I owned an ran my own service business here in the Elgin area for many years.Local business however need to focus more on us, the local customers who patronize them.Thats what sets their service apart from the multinational big companies.

WOW! This place far exceeded my expectation. I had my Husqvarna trimmer worked on to tune the carbarator after the break in period, so I thought. After several attempts of tuning, their tech discovered the diaphram had gone bad and repaired it, at no additional cost. My trimmer works great now! The staff is also very friendly, professional, and HONEST. That seems to be hard to find in this industry for what ever reason. Ralph Helm referred me to them.

I called A1 to get one of my mowers fixed. I initially was put on hold for 3 minutes before I could talk to someone. I explained my situation and they needed the model number from my mower. I went to my shop (10 miles) away and got the number for them. I called them back and was put on hold again for another 5 minutes. Finally, they answer and said that I need to go to Buck Brothers. Never even gave me a chance to tell them my model number that I drove 10 miles to get. Why didnt you tell me this the first place? As a local lawn care company owner I am very dissatisfied with this business. This isnt the first time Ive had poor customer service from them either. STAY AWAY!!!!!To response from owner: I told it was a lesco right off the bat. Why did you ask for a part number if you do not work on lesco. For your information I took it to Aams and he had no problem looking the part number up. Laziness...

Horrible service! Called and was put on 2 week waiting list for a tune up with carb rebuild for $175, when my ticket came up 2 weeks later my husband dropped it off and was told they would call with an estimate, no word for several days so called and was told my husband didnt specifically tell them we had an appointment so they wouldnt have called us for several weeks.... They had looked me up in their system when he got there though, didnt get an estimate until the next week, after several calls to figure out what was going on because I only wanted the tune up, when finally called with an estimate was told $310 for the tune up and $475 for the repairs, said I didnt plan for double and was told a set amount but they insisted on doing a full estimate, went to pick up the next day as my yard is getting too tall to wait to be cut, they charged me $45 for an estimate I didnt ask for then refused to take payment with a card because I was upset . Worst service ever, will try and rip you off if they can then will screw you over as we had to drive to our credit Union because we didnt bring cash with us and our credit Union doesnt work with other ATMs, so driving our truck and trailer around wasting gas because of these cheats! Will certainly be letting the person who gave us this Horrible referral know what this company put us through!!!! Shouldve gone to the same place we went last year. Plan on crappy service and rude people and double, at least, what they told you it would be if you go there! Frankly I shouldve called the cops since they refused to accept payment and forced me to give them cash. They have several signs stating they accept cards and nothing staying you had to pay in cash!
