This is the best pawn shop I’ve ever been to. I’m a life long Elgin resident, and trust me this is the place to go if you need to sell or buy something. I made the mistake of going to EZ Pawn years ago (YUCK!)- then took my item here & was offered double $$. Have been a customer since.This is a classy place (for a pawn shop) & I will only go here. Store is immaculate, items are quality, and above all, staff is professional and courteous, even with difficult customers I’ve witnessed. No doubt the few bad reviews came from unscrupulous ppl who tried to sell them junk. Bruno the owner is a straightforward guy, honest, explains everything & won’t BS you. Easy on the eyes too ladies 😉 Everyone is extremely respectful, & friendly (especially Jay) and bottom line, they appreciate their customers, know how to treat them and care if you return for business.

Swung by to sell an engagement ring. Although I didnt take the offer(even though he offered twice the price a different place quoted me), the older gentlemen (possibly the owner) was straightforward with me. He gave very good advice on what I could get for it on my own. First time there. Over all he was kind and knowledgeable.

They were pretty incompetent with figuring out how to work electronics. They took for ever and then didn’t offer me anything. Went down the street toA different pawn shop and they were efficient and kind and made a great offer. I do not recommend this pawn shop

Every experience I have here is better than the next .Not only do I get to walk out with great items for a great price but they are always so kind and courteous , with the overall environment being clean and well maintained.

I have used this store many times over the past few years and have always had a excellent experience until today (the reason for 2 stars instead of one). When I showed up to pick up an item I had on loan I was informed the the only person who can process my payment was not actually in the store because he had to run somewhere and would return in 5 to 10 minutes (strange business practice, but ok).18 minutes later he returned, and when I mentioned my waiting he responded not with an apology, but with an attitude that it is somehow my fault for having to wait and its really no big deal. Apparently customers should appreciate sitting around to give money to this store.Ultimately I am not upset with waiting, but the ridiculously unprofessional attitude of the little man behind the glass. I will not be a patron of this store again as Im sure nothing will be done to improve and suggest that potential future customers avoid this store merely because of this person.Thanks!

Came here looking for a ring. Been to five different places and couldnt be more happier with my purchase here. Excellent customer service. They are very professional and friendly and I got a great deal.

If you buy from them, be your own professional at knowing what you buy. I bought a PS3 controller from them (with warranty) and took it home only to find out that it was defective. Took it back to the shop so it could get fixed and they so called fixed it. It they did something to the triggers so it would work for just a few button presses and then back to broken it goes. They would not replace the item with another controller even though I took it at least 4 times to the shop. They said as long as they can keep fixing it during the time of the warranty, they dont need to exchange it for another controller. Temporary fixes are not fixes, its just more proof that you CANT fix something. If you buy from here, I advise you not to get a warranty, buy anything and everything cheaper than what they are asking, and know how to fix problems on your own. I will not be buying anything else from this place again. They dont care about customers even if they buy warranties, they just care for your money.

Right from the start Julian was super hostile. He asked what I was looking for as far as a price for the ring I was trying to sell. When I stated that I didn’t know, he aggressively told me that, “that’s not how it works”. He also told me that the price I get for the ring is the same irregardless of pawning or selling. To which I said that if it didn’t matter then he could just give me a price that the shop was comfortable paying for it. He again said, frustrated, “that’s not how it works” now, mind you, I’ve already received 3 different quotes from 3 different pawn shops. All gave me a price of at least over $500.. he spent more time arguing with me than he did valuing the ring, after a few seconds he said, the ring was basically worth $50 and would offer, $200.. I do not recommend this place at all and if the owner responds, I’d like a word with him in regards to the policies and practices of this place, before I submit a report to the Better Business Bureau. What kind of qualifications he has to determine the price. Rahl Jewelers has more qualified staff that are also professional. When I called back to get Julian’s first name as I had missed it when he failed to introduce himself, Lex who answered the phone wouldn’t give me a first name until I explained why I needed it. Do they also not give a first name? I mean seriously what a joke.

I stopped in here to have a ring looked at that I found during a paint job my husband was doing and what a condescending jerk the guy was ! Not just me, but the other customers that were in there. I guess thats what you do when youre taking advantage of peoples misfortune , (fortunately, I dont have any misfortune , was going to use the ring to buy gifts for the Christmas toy drive if it was worth anything ) just that sad and pompous will never stop in here again !!!!Have stopped over to purchase things at able pawn shop in the early 2000s and they were, friendly and reliable and dont treat people like theyre better than them. It doesnt look or feel like a pawn shop at all and the staff there, especially the lady manager, are exceptional. I am NOT a regular at pawn shops, but have been going through tough times lately as are many people. I was grateful to leave with my dignity and some money in my pocket, thank you Windy City!

I too had never been to a pawn shop. The place is lovely and the staff is exceptional. Very friendly, very knowledgeable - I stop in frequently - watch batteries & band adjustments is what initially got me In there, but Ive found cables, had jewelry repaired and have treated myself to a great item or two...did I mention the wonderful staff? (each and every one of them).

I previously worked here, but was a CUSTOMER at the same time. I had numerous loans; REDEEMED, ON TIME & NEVER DEFAULTED. At one point, I had an issue with the poor management & business ethics. I found jewelry on the sales floor that was being graded incorrectly, which was then being sold at a misleading price. I decided to speak about the issue with the owner. I was immediately fired. They would not give me my last paycheck unless I paid off all my loans that I had at that time. This was and still is the most unprofessional situation I had ever experienced as an employee who valued business ethics, but more importantly as a LOYAL CUSTOMER. In the end, I learned that they just look up sold items on eBay & lowball that price to the customer. After experiencing their poor business ethics & customer service, I then researched & compared other pawn shops in the area. I found that every pawn shop in the Kane & Cook County area offer more than this place. If you are in dire need of this service, just let them lowball you a price & then take your item to another pawnshop. Let the next pawnshop know what price Windy City provided you & they will most likely beat it. If they can’t beat it, they will at least match it. You have nothing to lose. Otherwise, I would not suggest this pawnshop to anybody! BEWARE!

I found this Pawn Shop to be very fair and extremely honest. I sold 2 peices of gold and an older diamond ring. I visited 2 other local pawn shops and Windy City gave me the best price. I will use them again.

Terrible customer-service at this place of business my experience with windy city pawn has been a nightmare .it A mobile phone purchase back in February I was advertised Unlock device and when I tried to actually turn the phone on I was advice by Verizon is lost or stolen when I tried to return Is where the problem stems I was treated like Treat it like I stole the phone I had to beg for them to return it And they refused Family to store manager said he would do me a favor this time you give me store Four hundred dollars was Spent on a device that now They are not responsible for Selling me a stolen device Ill give you store credit is what they say it So they gave me store credit ?Still without a cell phone I agree to get another one with the store credit Will give me the phone is what the store manager said that check to make sure this one is working .He goes and checks and come-back and tells me everythings good nothings wrong with his phone .Adding to the issue Weve gone and exchange it but you cannot be a problem customer anymore were not gonna make any changes for you again ?????At this point in time or even understand what the problem is .So II get the 2nd phone go get the phone activated to my unbelief they had a phone from AT&T in which was not paid for AT&T advice me I had to pay $400 in order to use that phone .The customer had a unpaid balance on a lease agreement with AT&T Under that equipment sold me .A lost out on $300 on that particular situation

Went in looking for a Dremel. They had one so i bought it for $28 otd. Then I do a google search of the model and they popped up all over new for 29.99. I usually search an item prior to buying it from a pawn broker for negotiating, but the one time I dont I get taken.When I first got there I told the big boss that I usually buy at cash traders on the east side of Elgina and they did not have what I was looking for. He then proceeds to kicked them in the stones saying they suck and their prices suck even more.I totally disagree with the guy. Cash Traders is a better experience in every way.

I received poor offers on everything I’ve pawned here, and I went to pick something up on Sunday where there usual business hours are 12-4. They are closed due to “conditions”, otherwise to watch the Super Bowl, when it doesn’t start until the evening anyway. How ridiculous!!
