We have been using H&R Block for years because someone we knew worked there but once she retired Mr. Chopper took us on as a client. We always request Mr. Chopper to complete our taxes and once COVID hit felt very comfortable leaving our important papers in his possession, something my husband does not usually do. Mr. Chopper has made the last two years easy and painless even when we owed money this year. We had many questions regarding what we might be able to do because of the large amount owed and my husband retiring. Very satisfied with Jays preparation of my tax return. That said, the fee went up from $189 to $239, an increase of 27%. This might be enough incentive to encourage me to go back to doing my own returns, as last year was the first time I did not prepare my own returns.

I scheduled a one on one in person appointment for 1 hour, I also got an email confirmation and a text confirmation of my appointment. I made arrangements, paid a baby sitter to watch my kids, and was at my appointment 15 minutes early. When I arrived I was told they are only doing drop off service. I could complete a form and leave my paperwork. They would review the paperwork and get back to me in a week or so. I did not SCHEDULE a one on one in person appointment to have everything done in a week or so. I informed them that I needed to get this done ASAP as Im in the middle of a loan process and they required me to submit 2020 tax returns, plus I had specific questions I wanted to ask. I was told they would have it done by the filing deadline of April 15th, now Im not a tax expert but even I know the IRS moved the filing deadline to May 17th. I was in no way comfortable leaving my paperwork with a tax expert that doesnt even know when taxes are due. If you are reading this please be aware that the people in the office dont honor appointments, and apparently dont even know when taxes are due. I wasted about an hour of my time and the cost of a sitter for three kids for nothing. I returned home and signed up for turbo tax on line, it was very easy and I was able to have a live tax professional review my returns on line at 9:30pm, and submit them for me. I did all this from my house and was able to deal with professionals that did not waste my time and money. I fully understand the COVID constraints and fears but if they told me upfront that it was drop off service only I would have made other arrangements. Poor communication and advertisement.

H&R Block does a good job on doing taxes. They are very friendly and are very accurate in doing taxes. Also, they give you the maximum refund you deserve.

The agent I am working with does not return phone calls and does not show up for appointments. He did not file my 2018 tax return on time and did not call me about it. When I finally got in touch with him he simply said he was too swamped. Thankfully because it was his incompetence, I did not have to pay for the services he finally provided. He is totally irresponsible and incompetent! The agent I had is named Jay, from reading other reviews it seems that Mark is the agent to use at the Eldersburg location. I will never use or recommend H and R block again.
